Wait Until You Hear the Latest Left-Wing Conspiracy About the Tea Party — And Your Tax Dollars Funded the ‘Study’

Taxpayer Dollars Used to Fund Study Tying Tea Party to Tobacco Lobby

(AP photo via FoxNews.com)

Americans’ hard earned tax dollars were used to help fund a study that attempted to link the Tea Party movement to the tobacco lobby. The study argues that the Tea Party was not a spontaneous grassroots movement, but rather the brainchild of big tobacco.

Tea Party leaders quickly mocked the study’s conclusions, which were published earlier this month in the Tobacco Control journal. It was also reportedly presented by its actual authors at an on-campus symposium in San Francisco on Feb. 8. The research was conducted at the University of California-San Francisco.

“The Tea Party that we see in 2009 actually has decades of influence from tobacco and other corporate interests,” co-author Amanda Fallin said.

More from FoxNews.com:

The study was funded by federal taxpayer grants through the National Institutes of Health and its subsidiary the National Cancer Institute, both federal agencies. It’s difficult to tell how much grant money specifically went toward this study, but federal records show researchers at the university have received $7 million since 2007 to study tobacco issues.

The study argues that while conventional wisdom says the Tea Party launched in the spring of 2009, its “roots” lie in the tobacco industry efforts of the 1990s. The premise is that the group Citizens for a Sound Economy, a tobacco industry ally which opposed tobacco taxes and control in the ’90s, split a decade later into the conservative groups Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, which have since linked up with part of the Tea Party movement. The study argues that their tactics and beliefs have remained constant by opposing new taxes and regulations.

[...]

However, opposing tobacco taxes is a relatively small part of their current agenda. And those two groups do not compose the entirety of the Tea Party movement. They work with a range of local and national Tea Party groups, but those groups — including the national Tea Party Patriots — have their own management.

Democratic leaders have routinely attempted to paint the Tea Party as a manufactured movement created to do the bidding to Wall Street fat cats and the “radical” conservatives. But the tobacco thing, that’s new.

“If you’re going to have a conspiracy theory, at least try to make it pass the laugh test… and this one doesn’t even do that,” AFP President Tim Phillips told FoxNews.com, adding that opposing tobacco taxes is “probably point-00001 percent of the effort.”

Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin said the student was “an example of the frivolous spending inside the government…that has landed us $17 trillion in debt.

The National Cancer Institute said in a statement to Fox News that NCI and NIH played no role in the selection of the research topic when it provided funds.

Liberals are the dumbest people on the planet… the repeat DNC nonsense without even casual scrutiny.

Fact: the Taxed Enough Already (TEA) Party members realize we are paying too many taxes. When the government raises taxes on small business’ or corporations… all they are doing is having someone else collect tax from individuals for them… its illegal for small bussiness’ and corporations to print their own money… so in order to pay the ever increasing taxes leveled on them by the government THEY RAISE THE PRICES OF THEIR GOODS AND SERVICES… for you public schooled liberal ‘tards that means the tax burden falls on individuals (but you are too stupid to follow the three card monty switcher-roo the democrat elected officials are playing because you mistakenly think someone else is getting the shaft (you truely are idiots… we need means testing to prevent stupid people from voting money be taken from good people to give losers free cell phones, etc). The democrats pretending to be looking out for you are raping us all (this generation and all to follow). We are TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY (more than need be) and you would know that if you weren’t brain dead generational welfare leaches ready, willing and can’t wait to screw anyone so you can feel good about your lot in life.

If decent people go away you losers would all starve (after screwing each other over) but if you idiots go away the world will be a better place, a eutopia to be sure. Prove me wrong, please

The problem with liberals is that they don’t understand the Tea Party Movement. Since they don’t understand they hire other liberals to “study” the Tea Party Movement.” They do realize that the TPM is dangerous to their big government goals so they must be demonized. As long as they have control of the education system they’ll be fine, which is why Obama wants to expand preschool, more union teachers, more time to indoctrinate.

It’s fun, yet depressing to listen to liberals spout about the Tea Party – they’re racist, funded by Big Tobacco, a bunch of white nutbags, etc. But the reality simply won’t do, that these are average Americans who clearly see that our government spends way too much, has exceeded the powers granted it by the Constitution, and that race has nothing to do with it. It’s simple common sense, that’s all. And I have yet to hear one liberal successfully defend all the spending. No, sheeple, it’s NOT Bush’s fault.

The Tea Party Movement began out of the Nixon “Silent Majority”. Americans who can think outside politics have known for a long time corruption and non adherence to the constitution were bringing the country down. This is also why both parties are loosing membership. The Tea Party movement should be a message to both parties to restore American constitutional values to government. The Obama administration and the Democrat party display the effect of being taken over by the Communist Party, USA.

An average citizen could probably go through the government budget and cut it by 80% and the average citizen would never feel any effects.

Wow what a bunch of Liars we have from the left here tonight. Keatonc-223, sendthemeteors and verseofreason………..The Tea Party is and always will be a party about the people…….Something I know just escapes your programing because your handlers haven’t caught up yet.

There is No, none, not even a little bit of Political power behind the Tea Party. No one in the Tea Party is told what to do by anyone else either……Another idea you on the left fail to grasp…..But it does have you worried to death doesn’t it…..

Hard to kill something when you can’t find it…….But stay alert for we may be infiltrating your ranks and taking your secrets away….and when you least expect it like the mid terms you will lose a lot of seats AGAIN!

Speaking of tobacco industry links, here’s another facet. When you look at the background of people prominent in the climate-change-denier community, you often discover that decades ago they were involved in efforts to sow doubt about the health risks of smoking. Some folks just aren’t very concerned about the ethical implications of where their pay checks are coming from.

With all the talk about the Tea Party becoming irrelevant, why are they still going after it.I am guessing that the are very afraid it.This is a grass roots movement, that they cannot stop or mimic,on their side, and that scares the hell out of them.

now that’s funny, but you did a highly dangerous thing—a little like pulling the pin on a hand grenade, though you still have the “spoon” held down. You got me THINKING.

Ponder this, oh appreciator of the finer, less expensive, things in life—COULD it be that, in the end, it will not be the threat to people’s right to Practice their Faith, or the threats to Their Right to say what they think, or the threats to their Right to keep and bear arms that fires off American Revolution v3.0–but when Nanny Sammy comes to take away our CHIPS!?
That may be it. Jefferson said people will put up with a lot of Government Tyranny, but messin with my snack food just may make people mad enough.
And I’m not (just) being funny. We can see the trends, and WHAT WE EAT is something that Americans tend to say “to HEll with the REST of you, I’m EATING it” about.

HAHA I love that the Blaze of all websites is talking trash on the first liberal conspiracy they’ve heard in years! Give the Liberals some credit for at least doing research first! I mean its not like they’re claiming Obama is from Kenya, or that the white house had a live feed of the Benghazi attack, Or that agenda 21 will turn America into a dystopic hell scape, or that newtown was staged, or that the people at the newtown shootings were all actors, or that there is a war on christmas, or that hurricanes are God’s punishment for having gays in our nation, Or that Obama was going to declare martial law before the last election, or death panels, or that theres going to be door to door gun confiscation, Or HAARP, should I keep going?

wow encinom was right-we tea party types are just pawns of the tobacco industry-honestly, not sure if that is where I heard this absurd “reasoning” a few days ago, but it sounds like something Encinom would adhere to. Today on radio, Glenn again urged us to double check info and research for ourselves. I went to the huffpo to see what their take was on the Missouri dems trying to confiscate weapons from Missouri citizens. Guess what-the huffpo didn’t cover this story, but plenty of other websites did. Oh yeah, he chided us to look into the Tom Harkin communist remarks, to make sure they were accurate-guess what-several videos of him in his own words-Glenn is right the masks are coming off-fast and furious(pardon a bad reference)
