Meteors, Asteroids & Now This: Fireball Seen Streaking Across the San Francisco Sky

In the same 24-hour period that a meteor injured more than 1,000 people when it exploded over Russia and a 150-foot asteroid skimmed past the Earth, a strange fireball streaked across the northern California sky Friday night.

Sightings were reported around 7:45 p.m. local time as far north as Sacramento and as south as Santa Cruz, according to KNTV-TV.

The fireball was described as bluish in color and seemed like it was plummeting straight toward the ground. One YouTube user driving in the San Francisco Bay Area posted video of what looked like a “bright blue shooting star.”

“I saw that meteor/fireball over Solano County after spending the day reporting on asteroids and fireballs,” KNTV reporter Jodi Hernandez said.

One astronomer told the station it sounded like a “sporadic meteor,” which can happen several times a day, and was unrelated to the asteroid that passed by Earth.

The end of the world is at least 1007 years away. The end of the world as we know is happening now, no now, no now. However, the Great Tribulation period seems to be, judging by what we see happening in the world, right around the corner.

I do not rejoice in the thought of all the suffering that is about to come upon the world. I would like to see billions of souls saved before that happens. I do rejoice at the fact that soon I will be with my Lord and Savior and I will be free from my own sin. Whether it happens because I’m raptured, get hit by a bus, die of heart disease, rot from the head down from Leprosy, or stroke out because of some of the stupidity I read on here, so be it. I am willing to go through whatever the Lord has for me. If He takes me through suffering, I know it is for my own good and for His glory. You see, I know the character of God, that He is good, merciful, just, loving, righteous, omnipresent, omnipotent, and patient to name a few. The problem with many of you who are making blasphemy an avocation is that you don’t know hwo God is and you make assumptions about Him that are erroneous. I am a Christian not because I’m smart; I’m not; not because I’m good; I am a terrible sinner. I am a Christian because God has had mercy on me and when I picked up His word I was looking for truth. He led me to it. I thank Him everyday for being patient with me and I hope His patience continues for the sake of the worst of you.

Witness……….Well said but don’t let the scoffers bother you. I used to but I decided the headache wasn’t worth it. We can keep witnessing our faith in God, we can encourage them to open their hearts to God and we can pray for them but that is all we can do. They have had every opportunity to hear the Word of God, His message has been sent to the ends of the earth but the choice is theirs.

They will bow down in worship twice if they stay their course. Once to the Antichrist and again before God in judgement. While I hate their choice, as much as I would love for them to change before it is too late it is out of our hands.

JMS: It so happens that I did graduate the 4th grade and I do know this happens everyday. And not being the nitwit you suppose I am, I do know that meteors are not stars. I was addressing the general tenor of the conversations here, not the specific event. It just so happens my comment ended up on the top, which it never seems to do when I want it to. It would be better read at the bottom of the comments by others. However, scripture does indicate that there will be scary things happening in the heavens, an inrease in earthquakes, more powerful storms, nations rising up against nations etc. I don’t know when it’s going to happen. The Lord says that no man knows the exact day or hour. But He also seems to indicate that there will be certain signs coming with more frequency, signs that the day is coming. I do know that your time would be better spend answering the question, “Who is Jesus?” than showing how wise you are compared to 4th graders. Some time every one on here should play a game called “Admit your suppostions.” Every one has them. I’ve alluded to mine in the piece above. I can guess the basic suppositions most folks on here have based on what they say. The difference between us probably is that I believe there is a Creator who is fully involved in providence. He is governor of the universe and He knows in his perfect wisdom what He is doing to accomplish His blessed ends. Somehow I think we do not share that foundation.

IonAmerica: What an insightful comment. Full of sound reason and evidence. It is the kind of response I am used to seeing from such deep thinkers as yourself. Thank you so much for your instruction.

Betterpart: If you are addressing me, let me assure you that i know that God is a jealous God and that we are not to have any Gods before Him. Why else do you think I’m taking the time to talk about Him here. I agree, He is also a wrathful God. What, do you think I have my Bible color coded so I only read what suits me? I know that there is a Hell as well as a Heaven. That is implied in the word “saved.” When one hears the word saved, one would naturally ask, saved from what? The only way to escape Hell is through the narrow gate of Christ. If you bother to read more than one entry someone makes, you get a little better picture before you call lightning down on them. Do you think you are the only one who the Holy Spirit teaches? The problem, as I stated, above is that most people actually believe in God even though they claim to be atheist/agnostic. In fact they hate Him for various reasons not the least of which is the cruelty they see in the world and that they have experienced at the hands of “Christians.” If you ever get past your fixation on the Ten Commandments, you will find that God is love. It’s a hard love of action, not emotion and He does intend good for His creatures. He is not willing that any of us perish, though most will choose to. He

Jim S: I think you need to re-read what I said: I did not say God was aiming fireballs. And, I certainly did not say I consider myself a good person. As far as what you wrote, I take your word that you did not mean to insult me. I did not take offense at what you said. It would take a lot to insult me since I deserve most criticism that comes my way. I do in fact agree with you that the Blaze, as it turns out, is just one more media whore that makes money by sensationalizing nearly every story that comes down the pike. “Giant Moles Found in Wyoming; Their Mounds Dwarf Surrounding Mountain Ranges!” Finally, I want to make it clear that I am not predicting anything. Once single event does not constitute the signs Jesus told us to watch for, but a series of events increasing in intensity. Now, if we wake up tomorrow and Damascus is no longer a city then, I would be pretty impressed with that one. Anyway, Neither of us is going to change the world here. It is good to practice the rhetorical jousting and in the course of it I know I have learned some things, besides it’s entertaining and fun. If we could get rid of all the personal attacks it would be nice. Have a good day.

We are just saying be prepared at all times.

Sunriver, Oregon, had a fireball recently.

The article is a pay article from the Bend Bulletin, but here’s the summary/tagline “Expert seeks meteor sightings. Children reported fireball Sunday
    By Scott Hammers The Bulletin
February 16, 2013 4:00 am Four days before the meteor explosion over Russia that injured an estimated 1,200 people, another errant rock from space may have passed though the skies above Central Oregon. ”

Get the feeling that the Earth has just passed through a field of rocks in space?

As an aside, NASA tried to play up the meteorite in Chelyabinsk. The most kinetic energy a 10 ton rock could have is the equivalent of 23 tons of TNT or about 35 tons of dynamite. Which is a good-sized blast, but it’s not like a nuke. Even Russia’s suitcase nukes were 1000+ tons equivalent.

Everyday it seems another story about something coning from space. I believe there is something that we the GP are not being told. I have a suspicion that these recent visitors are the vanguards of something big coming. My wife asked me why no one saw the bus sized object approaching that exploded over Russia yesterday when scientist have thousands of these things located and are watching. I mean ISON was seen at over a year or more away. I thought for a moment and this is what I said. The object wasn’t seen because it came in too fast no time to be discovered. I’m not really buying that. Maybe it’s approach was hidden behind a planet or something and just wasn’t detected. Don’t know about that one either. I said because maybe it was too small. But like it was the size of a bus (Official story) & if memory serves me right many that size and smaller have been detected in the past. Then I hit on something that, well, fits. It fits right in with how things are dealt with today. I said, Maybe it was seen. Maybe governments knew it was coming. Wife asked, ” why didn’t they say anything? Reply. Because they knew it was going to hit. They knew approximately when but not quite sure where it would hit. What else can they do? Tell everyone that within a 100,000 square mile area that they will be hit by a space rock as big as a bus. People go crazy, start running around. The gov plays dumb, no panic, bets on it either it hits a remote area or explodes. No harm no foul.

So true, the book of Revelation shows some really scary stuff falling from the skies

But Christians need not worry, we are going to be taken in the resurrection/rapture http://youtu.be/CBsYDhNxFlU

It is those that are left behind that will have to worry about the wrath of God killing 2/3 of the worlds population

If you are not a believer upon Christ people now is the day of your salvation and hear is the gospel in all its glory

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

…..And lightning striking the Basillica hours after the Pope put in his notice.
GOD must be very angry at the 55 million fetusus aborted since 1973.
That’s half the amount of lives the communists have forcibly taken during the last 100 years.
Gee, what EVIL are we fighting here?

55 million is a pretty small number compared to how many children that your god has allowed to die of disease and starvation throughout the centuries. Maybe your god should stop throwing meteors and instead throw some food and medicine to children who need it. Unless your god isn’t real; or maybe your god just hates children.

scoffers: Humanity is responsible for what it does or does not do. There are starving and sick children in the world because some human somewhere is either creating the conditions for or aren’t working to alleviate the suffering. You are all so ready to bitch about what you think God is or isn’t doing, and you are just finite flawed creatures enjoying brief period of time between wearing infant diapers and adult diapers. If you are so concerned about feeding children, get off your fat asses.

…except that God alone creates life – and He knows the big picture of past and future of all life. We belong to Him. They who butcher the very life He creates will answer to Him, as will we who have allowed you to. In fact, we’re answering to Him every day as He judges the evil that has taken over this country by the majority’s choice.

If you live where it’s nice and dark at night you can probaby catch a meteor quite often, nothing to worry about. One night when we were down on Hilton Head we saw a ton of them. If people to time to sky watch they’d be amazed at what they see.

You’re absolutely RIGHTINSOMANYWAYS. My favorites are the traffic light green meteors with the yellow and orange tails (sparks are optional). Here in Southern Arizona there’s always a sky show including some of the things I haven’t quite figured out for sure what they were.

Absolutely something big and even bigger is coming. Try the power law. We live in the left-hand 80% while trying to predict the right-hand 20% long tail.

Read N. N. Taleb’s The Black Swan: The *Impact* of the Highly Improbable.

Then read Andreas Albrecht and Daniel Phillips’ ‘Origin of probabilities and their application to the multiverse. (arXiv:1212.0953v1) “We argue using simple models that all successful practical uses of probabilities originate in quantum fluctuations in the microscopic physical world around us.”

Most asteroids the world astronomers look for are the 1km or bigger sized ones, commonly called the ‘end of civilization’ buggers. The two extra meteorites on Friday had escaped detection as many of the smallest ones manage to do.

We all know they’re buying up ammo. Some believe they have ‘FEMA camps, coffins’…..is all of ‘this’ for ‘what we ‘think’ is coming or something else? (like for instance, a killer asteroid?) Just questioning all of this. I think ‘out of the box’ more than I ever have.
