NBC News has confirmed with U.S. military officials that two Russian Bear bombers were circling the U.S. territory of Guam last week at roughly the same time President Obama delivered his State of the Union address. The planes were capable of carrying nuclear cruise missiles, the report adds, and while they stayed in international airspace, the United States scrambled F-15 jets from the Andersen Air Force Base to intercept them.
The exchange “stayed professional,” one source said, despite the unusual encounter.
“It wasn’t provocative but it certainly got our attention,” another source elaborated.
The Washington Free Beacon, which broke the story, notes that this isn’t the first time that Russian jets have been caught poking around U.S. territories. Over the summer, they were caught simulating attacks on on “enemy” air defenses and strategic facilities near Alaska.
The U.S. has stated its hope of “pressing the reset button” with Russia, and President Obama signed a strategic arms reduction treaty with Russian President Medvedev in February 2011.
The Washington Free Beacon has more on how experts are weighing in:
John Bolton, former U.N. ambassador and former State Department international security undersecretary, said the Russian bomber flights appear to be part of an increasingly threatening strategic posture in response to Obama administration anti-nuclear policies.
“Every day brings new evidence that Obama’s ideological obsession with dismantling our nuclear deterrent is dangerous,” Bolton said. “Our national security is in danger of slipping off the national agenda even as the threats grow.”
Defense officials said the bombers tracked over Guam were likely equipped with six Kh-55 or Kh-55SM cruise missiles that can hit targets up to 1,800 miles away with either a high-explosive warhead or a 200-kiloton nuclear warhead.

Defense officials disclosed the incident to the Free Beacon and said the Russian bomber flights appeared to be a strategic message from Moscow timed to the president’s state of the union speech.
“They were sending a message to Washington during the state of the union speech,” one official said. [Emphasis added]
Former State Department security official Mark Groombridge had a similar response, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
“One could argue the Russians were poking a bit of fun at the Obama Administration, seeing how they flew these long-range bombers close to Guam on the same day as the state of the union address,” he began. “But the broader implications are more profound…The Russians are clearly sending a signal that they consider the Pacific an area of vital national strategic interest and that they still have at least some power projection capabilities to counterbalance against any possible increase in U.S. military assets in the region.”

I have relatives who were in the military and were stationed there for five years. They said Whites who live there are greatly discriminated against. Only the White tourists are treated well.
That reminds me of another thing the media ignores. The crime rate in Hawaii is pretty high, but the media never reports on it. They don’t want to hurt the tourism.

Luckily, when I went out into the economy, being female and not in uniform, I was treated like a tourist. There are also areas of shanties on Oahu, where they basically have tar paper shacks because it doesn’t get cold. They never show those areas on the news.

Feb. 16, 2013 at 7:44pmI have said this before, and hopefully some in the “Conservative Media” will run with it! “The takers can take what the makers make, but the takers can’t make the makers make!” In other words, us Americans, though out-numbered at this point, (though still in the majority as far as producers (aka money makers go) should save up enough money and food to take two weeks off, (shut the country down, peacefully and legally, which include sending your employees home for two weeks,) let the country starve for a couple weeks, (like a national hurricane), no trucks, trains, light, power, cable, radio, NOTHING! for two weeks, like a hurricane ravaged this countryto let DC and the parasites who voted for these clowns know once and for all ‘who butters their bread! July 4th 2013-Independence Day would be a good day to start this movement in my opinion.

You know this idea that trying to agree to reduce the number of US and Russian was not only supported by Reagan but by every administration after that.
You really don’t need to understand much to grasp the concept. The US, and Russia each have +5000 nuclear warheads. Think about that for a second. That’s enough to strike every major city on Earth several times, to make the rubble bounce as they say. Even 10 or so of those 5000 would utterly destroy the populations of North Korea or Iran. A thousand of those 5000 would render the world uninhabitable by the human race for awhile, like 10,000 years.
Folks, reaching agreements to reduce the number of nuclear warheads does nothing to reduce nuclear deterrence. Between the US and Russia we have ten or twenty times enough weapons to utterly lay the entire world to waste.

I think perhaps you don’t understand the power of thermonuclear weapons, their short term and long term effects. You don’t get it, that’s all I can imagine.

I was trying, trying, to address nuclear deterrence. If you’ve read 13 Day by Robert Kennedy, you probably have an idea of the thoughts that went through the US administration during the Cuban Missile Crisis (although there was a lot that happened Kennedy couldn’t mention in the book).
The Russian in particular understand the consequences of a nuclear exchange: they have a big country, but their population and manufacturing is concentrated in a fairly small areas, and submarine borne weapons alone could make a wasteland out those areas.
Any country run by rational people would never start a nuclear exchange, even if we had 1/10th the weapons we have. The people who might initiate a nuclear war are religious countries like Iran or religious terrorists, or North Korea, which is in a class of it’s own.
Your post was right. The cold war is over and we spend billions trying to keep outdated weapons operational although we have thousands more than we need for “deterrence.”
The US by itself has enough nuclear weapons to lay the entire world to waste. The people who aren’t worried about that aren’t going to be less if we get reduce our arsenal, because because they’re either just crazy or think God is telling them what to do.

Other nations are protecting their borders and we have an open door policy. America’s only claim to fame is being able to turn a cruise ship into a floating pile of human excrement in 3 days. Obama is building a complete mock-up of the Oval Office while it gets renovated though. That should be all over NBC. It’s not the fact that Obama and Co. are socialists. They are bad socialists. If we are going to be a socialist nation then let’s hire Angela Merckel. She’s carrying the enitire continent of Europe on her back. Let’s contract her out. What we have isn’t working.

ICBMs that deliver nuclear warheads will be knocked out of the sky (if they get off the ground) by lasers, space based weapons, EMP, and other anti missile systems you have never heard off. Examples: 1986 US F15 knocked a satellite down from 120 miles up.
Ever hear of the Mig 31, hits mach 3.4 carries EMP weapons in the wings. Check out out airborne lasers, obsolete. We have ramjets that can chase down re-entry vehicles. Your theory was true in 1970, it is woefully outdated now.

But what does not ever get mentioned is how many time we do it to them , the Russian’ s are in no position to cause to much trouble as their conventional forces are to small and under trained. This is the most they can do militarily without risking an international incident, I would pay more attention to what they do financially with China particularly with Gold as they are both buying up as much as they can. I believe they both will push a new petrol currency either backed by gold or by using gold instead of the US dollar. That is their best weapon against us collpase the green back by getting most of the world to make the switch no bullets, no missiles , no armies needed.

There are nukes that can take us down but still allow for an invasion force within weeks. Hydrogen bombs in select areas and some at high altitude make America blind for months if not years. Its over at that point. I understand your sentiments well and they are spot on. I would only differ with that it will take a generation or two to undo what he has done so far. I guess my question is why would they want to undo BHO’s endeavors when they believe in their own minds (and this grows day by day) that their way is the best for the entire country?
While we type, another several million young boys and girls will be entering into the colleges and universities across the land (that the left control). Another generation is here right now! They have no jobs exiting college since 2009. So their back in school! If you can get your kid into a decent school right now your very fortunate because the previous graduating class has also gone back to school as well as the one before them. Its stacked!
Naw! the gig is up and the fiat currency has no more charm. Its just paper we shuffle around and say it has value. Our adversaries and even our friends already know this and so does our government…they are not only looking for an exit ramp, we are already on it and its called world war.
Reseting this mess is the end game.

And, engage your neighbors to think through their politics based on what works for the country, not who they feel sorry for! Let’s get the negative out of politics! Instead of feeling sorry for those less well off than ourselves, let’s figure out a way they can be motivated to better their lot! I am so sick of progressive BS! Email your senators and tell them in the strongest terms how you will work to replace them if they go along with it. Of course I did that with good old Johnny Isakson and he voted for it anyway…and I will work to replace him.

You can do that by (1) get a job, any job; (2) save something, it doesn’t matter how much; (3) invest in America, buy common stocks in American companies, any companies, it doesn’t matter, something you know, don’t just turn it over to a mutual fund ’cause you won’t learn anything; (4) live long enough–and THIS ONE MATTERS! It’s THAT SIMPLE, folks! It really is! Shame on you who EXPECT OUR GOVERNMENT to take from the wealthy to give to the poor! In older times, people would offer their services, to provide something of value in return for compensation!
