Israelis Mark 2-Year Anniversary of Fogel Family Massacre by Palestinians

Two years have passed since members of the Fogel family were massacred in their home by Palestinian terrorists, but for friends, family and many Israelis, their memory continues to inspire. This was the message sounded at a memorial service Sunday to mark the date – according to the Jewish calendar – that they were killed.
In March 2011, two teenage Palestinian cousins from a nearby village scaled the security fence surrounding the town of Itamar located in Samaria in the northern part of the West Bank. They crawled through the window of the Fogel home and, once inside, butchered parents Udi and Ruth, 11-year-old Yoav, 4-year-old Elad, and before leaving, stabbed to death their baby girl, 3-month-old Hadas.
So moved were they by the family’s tragedy, at least 14 families in the past year named their newborn babies after those slain, according to Ruth Fogel’s parents.
Ruth’s mother, Tali Ben-Yishai, told Israel National News that she keeps track of all of the babies named after her daughter’s family.
“People we do not know contact us and tell us that they named their children after our loved ones…[They] call to offer encouragement and express identification and they do so in the most joy-inspiring way possible – by giving new life and new light,” she said.
The service held near the Fogel home in Itamar included Israeli Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman, members of the Knesset, rabbis, senior military officials, family, neighbors and friends. Neeman read a letter from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which said he is regularly updated about the three surviving Fogel children and that the Fogel family heritage will be passed on to the younger generation. A member of the audience told TheBlaze that the prime minister’s note also expressed a desire to fortify his commitment to the land of Israel.
It was a day that friends and neighbors took pause to reflect on their loss. Neighbor Leah Goldsmith, who runs the Friends of Itamar organization with her husband, town mayor Moshe Goldsmith, told TheBlaze about the still-fresh pain of the murders.
“Two years have passed since that dreadful night that Arab murderers entered our community and murdered a family of saints, the Fogels,” Goldsmith said. “It was ten years before that that the world only heard of Itamar because of the murder of…members of the Shabo family and Yosef Tuito…it pains not only to grieve their loss but to realize how world attention is turned to us only on a tragic event.”
She added, “There are Jewish people out here sacrificing their lives for the land, sweating and bleeding in the goal of preserving a whole and complete Israel, from the Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea. Why is it such an easy thing to give away for a false world order?”
As Goldsmith said, the Fogel family murders weren’t the first atrocity committed in the small community. In 2002, five residents were slain by an Arab terrorist who shot them in a home.
Goldsmith and her neighbors believe their community as well as other Jewish settlements in Samaria are of strategic significance and enhance Israel’s security.
David Ha’ivri, media director for the Shomron (Samaria) Regional Council, lives a 15-minute drive from Itamar and said that far from discouraging them, the Fogel family murder only motivated Jewish residents to redouble their efforts to expand the Jewish settlements of Judea and Samaria, also known as the West Bank — a policy opposed by the U.S., Europe and most U.N. member states.
“The terror attack is not forgotten,” Ha’ivri told TheBlaze. “The Fogels were remarkable people and were dedicated to the land of Israel and to the tradition of the Torah, and to the connection of the Jewish people to the land of our heritage. They were slaughtered in their home by two teenagers from a nearby Arab village who did so as a means of terrorism to express their hate for the Jewish people. There are no words to describe how horrific and terrible that act was.”
“The community of Itamar is like one big family that has been struck by terrorism numerous times. They’ve become stronger and grown. More young families have joined the community. The yeshiva [religious seminary] where Rabbi Udi Fogel taught became a powerhouse for Torah study. It has the greatest demand in Israel of young students who want to study there and now a new study hall for the building was constructed in memory of Rabbi Fogel and his family,” Ha’ivri added.
Rabbi Yehuda and Tali Ben-Yishai, the parents of Ruth Fogel, have taken in their daughter’s three surviving children, 14-year-old Tamar, 10-year-old Roi and four-year-old Yishai, transforming themselves from grandparents to de facto parents. In an interview published Friday in Israel Hayom, Rabbi Ben-Yishai said of his daughter, son-in-law and three slain grandchildren, “They’re always with us.”
“What happened was so inhuman that we have gained superhuman strength,” grandmother Tali said. “We know these children will be great people. They will be all right. They will not be damaged. They’re not in trauma anymore. Some children are afraid of what happens around them, but they’re not like that. They’re not the sort who don’t want to go to school or don’t want to get out of bed and spend the day crying.”
Their grandfather described their schedule: “They get up in the morning, go to school, prepare sandwiches for themselves, come back with report cards. A normal routine.”
Tali added: “We’ve gone back to being young. We’ve been given a gift, and we’ve gained something — the children give us a lot of strength, and I don’t know whether we give more to them or they give more to us.”
At the ceremony, the cornerstone for a new dormitory was set in honor of the Fogels where yeshiva students will be able to live and study. The town of Itamar hopes the dormitory will be constructed within the year.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 7:01amIsn’t that typical of the Blaze, only reporting on stories that back up their agenda and ignoring factual events that go against the skewed world view they are trying to promote? One Israeli settler family killed by a couple of maniacs (and implying that they are typical of Palestinians in general), but no mention of the hundreds of innocent Palestinian children killed by say, Israel’s phosphorous bombing of Gaza (the use of which is illegal no less against civilian populations under Protocol 3).
Barack Obama is to receive Israel’s presidential medal of distinction when he visits Israel in March, but does the Blaze mention that? No, because they’ve just spent the past 4 years putting forward the angle that Obama hates Israel.
Hmm…

“President Shimon Peres plans to give President Obama a special award at a state dinner next month when Mr. Obama is expected to visit Israel. Mr. Obama would be the first sitting American president to receive the award, Israel’s Presidential Medal of Distinction. Previous recipients include Henry A. Kissinger and the conductor Zubin Mehta. “Barack Obama is a true friend of the State of Israel, and has been since the beginning of his public life,” Mr. Peres said in a statement.”

Palestinians have every right to resist and defend themselves in anyway they see fit. Beck will have us believe that the Israelis are as pure as the driven snow but in reality, they are America’s biggest headache. Bigger than those moooslim terrorists. Israelis have us fighting wars halfway around the world at their behest spilling tens of thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars. Posted on February 17, 2013 at 3:30pmOk so I am not saying this isn’t tragic.. because it is very tragic! but this one sided reporting and one sided philosophy is NOT how this issue will be resolved. Our reluctance to recognize just how much Palestine has been through is a big reason why there is so much hostility towards the US in the region. 1,551 palestinians have been killed by Israelis since 1987, meanwhile 421 israelis have died in the same amount of time. Now every death is tragic! but our collective ignorance or just unwillingness to recognize the the Palestinians plight will not get us anywhere, and will do nothing to stabilize the region! We need to put ourselves in the shoes of the palestinians if only for a second! and imagine a nation coming to America claiming some 70% of it in the name of their God you don’t even believe in, and secluding us all to small ghetto pockets.. would you not be outraged? WE need to change our thought process and help the palestinians if there is to be any hope in the region! After all.. there is no more effective way to “stand with israel” then to offer them a peaceful Palestine!
Please glance at these two links.. if only for a minute.. look at the map in the second link too! very telling. and just try to imagine yourself as a palestinian!

Funny how the left accuses the Right of “One sided reporting” and how they should provide opposing viewpoints, when they fail to do the same.
That’s how we ended up with O’reilly giving a mouthpiece to liberals while calmly allowing them to get the last word in on every show, while if a conservative shows up on a leftist controlled media outlet they are used as a Pinata in a shoutdown match. Usually outnumbered 5 to 1.

1. Your daughter has a pet bird. It flies through an open door and accidentally crashes into a window, killing itself instantly. Your daughter is heartbroken
2. Your daughter has a pet bird. Your neighbor breaks into your house, grabs the bird, breaks its neck in his hands, and gouges out the birds eyes, then cuts the bird in pieces; leaves a note saying ‘I did it, your neighbor,’ then has a party to celebrate the death of her pet bird.
Do you think there will be a difference in your daughters anguish? Do you not think than no. 2. will present to her mind a greater sense of loss? Its was one thing for the bird to die, its quite another as to HOW it died, and for what reason, then to witness the ensuing acts of ‘victory.’
It appears the media would have us believe that the Israelis killing Palestinians are no different than the little girls neighbor who killed her bird, when it fact it is more like ‘the bird flying into the window.’
That said, a little context goes a long way, but I understand your desire to be ‘balanced.’ Our topic currently is to call attention to what ‘mom’ called below the Palestinian celebration of the most despicable acts committed. This is the difference.

Posted on February 17, 2013 at 4:03pmYour link is dead. But more to the point, you say Israel got 70% and the Palestinians got none? Jordan was included in the British mandate to Palestine and made up 70% of the region known as Palestine. This region was made into a independent Arab state in 1946 and prior to that had been sealed to all Jewish immigration for decades. So 70% of Palestine went to the Arabs, not the Jews. Prior to this, in 1937, the Peel Commission was the first to recommend a partition which, had its plan been implemented, would have allocated less than 10% of Palestine to the Jews. It was the Arabs, not the Jews, who rejected this plan. So in other words, the Arabs weren’t satisfied with 90%.
The partition plan adopted by the UN split the remaining 30% evenly in half. Once again, the Arabs rejected the plan and lost a substantial amount of land in a war of aggression which they themselves described as “a war of annihilation”. A subsequent war to destroy Israel saw Israel nearly triple in size.
As to your accusation that Israel’s only justification for existing is Biblical, there were Jews living in the region at the time in substantial numbers. Some had been there since long before any Arab. And the number would had been even higher if it wasn’t for the racist immigration policies of the British.
In summary, it was the Arabs who received 70%, there are no “ghettos”, and there will be peace when the Palestinians want it.

I don’t understand the purpose of your link. Are you trying to help me? I said “substantial” not “majority” and the percentages support that.
As for your “ghetto” accusation, last I checked it was Jordan and Egypt who first built up those borders. Moreover, a ghetto is closed in on all sides while Israel’s “wall” (which in reality is over 90% fence) only separates the Palestinian territories from the main part of Israel, leaving gaping holes miles across. As for the rest of your story, no one was forced from Israel into the territories in the after math of the 1967 war, the only houses that get bulldozed are those used by terrorists, and the checkpoints are not at all unlike a standard border crossing.
And as for your accusation that we’d do the same, I need only cite the Warsaw ghetto to prove you wrong. At Warsaw the Jews, having truly been subjected to what you described and worse, took control over the ghetto and fought a defensive campaign to keep the Nazis from retaking it. No terrorism, no targeting civilians, and no conflict outside the ghetto walls. Hamas already has Gaza and could theoretically declare itself a state at any time and yet still they insist on murdering civilians.

“No nation in the Middle East kills more people than Israel.”
That’s funny. Keatonc333 cited a source that estimated total casualties among Arabs throughout almost 100 years of conflict with Jews and Israel as just over 90,000, including military casualties. Meanwhile, Syria’s civil conflict, over a 2 year period, has already claimed over 50,000 lives. Add to that Syria’s actions in Lebanon, the wars with Israel, and those that died as a result of them funding Hezbollah, and Israel looks like a pacifist nation by comparison.

Posted on February 17, 2013 at 9:04pmDo you know the historical truth of the land of Israel? You do realize that the West Bank was named such by Jordan and for thousands of years was Judea and Samaria? You also realize, I hope, that there was never an independent Palestine and prior to 1948 it was the JEWS who were called Palestinians… by the 1960′s Yasser Arafat needed a label for the disparate groups of Arabs living in Israel for the sake of his propaganda and he chose “Palestinians”. If you disagree, tell me who was the Palestinian leader prior to Yasser Arafat? You do realize that when the Muslims controlled East Jerusalem there was no religious freedom or tolerance and the Jews were not allowed to pray at their ONLY holy site, the Western Wall of the Jewish temple! Recently, a leader of Hamas appeared on Egyptian television and announced that there is no “Palestinian” people – those in Gaza are Egyptians and Saudis, and those in the “West Bank” are Jordanian… they don’t even speak the same dialect. So, when you want to talk about one-sided reporting, you ought to consider that these facts are omitted or denied by the vast majority of world media outlets. Did you know that the oppressed Palestinians have shopping malls, swimming pools, and luxury hotels? They are not living in abject poverty, and if their political leaders did not take the billions of dollars they receive in aid and build bombs and buy missiles with them, their people would not suffer as they do.

No chance their biased, right? Besides, every “violation” cited is declared a violation based on a treaty that the Palestinians broke first. Both the Crossing Agreement and the Oslo Agreement are invalid because the Palestinians have repeatedly failed to uphold any treaty they’ve signed. Israel has an incredibly powerful army we have help supply. complete with Nukes, missiles, drones etc etc. Plus They fear A US War or invasion against their country.. So stabbing an infant after killing both her parents and two siblings isn’t something disgusting enough to justify taking time to remember just how evil some people can be? But of course, you hate civilization so rampant murder and a lack of morals are things that we should all embrace as the norm, right? You are quite possibly the most arrogant, self-centered, uncaring person to ever post here. Is there anything that you care about other than yourself and that which directly benefits you?

Murder has a definition that differs from killing. By definition, murder is the unjustified taking of someone’s life. A cop who shoots a 6-year-old for no reason has murdered while one who shoots a fugitive who resists arrest has not. A soldier who knowingly shoots civilians is guilty while one who shoots enemy combatants is not. That’s how logic works. But out of curiosity, what is the logical basis for not murdering someone? You see, from a logical standpoint, selfishness is a virtue because it guarantees your own survival. If you oppose murder it’s not because you think it’s wrong or harmful, but rather because you have determined that you are more likely to survive in a world where murder is illegal.

Posted on February 17, 2013 at 10:49pmlogic behind not murdering someone? Blowback like maybe 9/11, maybe it wouldn’t have happened if we wouldn’t have invaded the middle east and murdered thousands or millions of people. If you just go around and take out people that didn’t do anything to you, you create more danger for yourself by people wanting to take revenge on you for your unjust action. Invading the middle east is creating more enemies for America than we would have had if we had left them alone and let them live under sharia law which they seem to like.

This is foolish. A) Millions of people didn’t die. Where are you getting your stats? Good grief.
B) We hardly spent anytime in the middle East before 9/11. There was the Persian Gulf, that was really it. It was pretty much Al Qaeda seeing us as big satan, who was interfering in the middle east when as a matter of fact, we foolishly helped them defend against Russia. They saw us as the greatest infidels so they attacked. If you really believe we just go around murdering people in the middle east to get our jollies then you need to learn your history, mate. If you really think Al Qaeda deserves an ounce of sympathy think again. They butcher their own people without U.S. involvement. Once again, my sympathy jar has run dry.

To be fair, there are those known jews such as Sarah Silverman, who bring a stain to the Jewish name, along the lines of the morally and spiritually bankrupt Bill Maher of USA fame. No nation is perfect obviously, but some are better than most, and the way in which the Israel family’s memory is dealt with is loud and clear as to who ‘tends to life.’
The Palestinians, they who are claiming title for what is not theirs, will always devalue life while claiming to be pious.

“.” We’ll no joke! You get your information from the Blaze, Israeli’s American propaganda tool, and Fox.. you don’t think those stories exist? check this out!”
Okay well you are here too. so there is that. Are you trolling. But the more important thing is A) I have read bad things Israel does on the Blaze. B) I have seen and heard other stories you have here. IT literally changes nothing. Am I said palestinian families died? Yes. Are the Israelis perfect? No. But see here is the thing Israel is being attacked from all sides and their enemies are hiding out amongst the civilians. They literally can’t do anything without being demonized form the world. In war civilian casualties happen. But John Vincent is absolutely correct, it’s the way in which is done. A) The Israelis are never the aggressors, they just want to be left alone and these things happen because Hezbollah from Palestine launch rockets at them. B) Israelis never go in and butcher Palestinian families up close and personal. Are you seeing the difference here because it’s rather. This is why I’m always going to have more sympathy for Israel than these people. It’s like a bully constantly going after a kid, then suddenly the kid slugs him and the bully cries foul and everyone agrees with him. What gives? Wise up… Jerk is way out of line.

First of all, you misread the data. That 90,000 number isn’t Palestinians. That number represents total casualties among all Arabs, including invading Arab armies, terrorists, and civilian casualties. Do you understand the difference? To put that in perspective, 10,000 of those you cited were the casualties suffered by Egypt alone in the war of 1967. Take out the military casualties from 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973 and the number drops by almost 50% and that’s just the big wars. (This does go both ways by the way)
But on top of that where did the fighting occur? Did it happen when Hamas invaded Tel Aviv or did it Happen when Hamas cowardly launched attacks from inside Gaza city? Whenever you fight in a populated area (which Hamas always is very careful to do) civilians get hurt. So of course their casualties are higher the same way Nazi Germany suffered more casualties than the US in WWII.
Thirdly, almost 2000 of those “Palestinians” killed, were killed by other Palestinians. I also see another 20,825 from the 1st war in Lebanon. How many does that leave?
But the best data I can give you is the following: in the recent conflict, Pillar of Defense, Israel attacks over 1000 targets but killed less than 120 people, nearly half of whom were Hamas terrorists. By comparison, Jordan slaughtered over 2500 Palestinians in one month in 1970.

You cited a bomb that was dropped in response to a rocket attack? And as for that third link, that’s one of my favorites. Why? It is a perfect example as to why figures never tell the whole story. For example, that site lists the number of Palestinian children killed as 1516 and cites a source called Remember These Children. In this case though, by looking to the source we can gather more data because this source lists the names, ages, residence, and most importantly, the cause of death fro each child. Let’s look at it together shall we?
http://rememberthesechildren.org/remember2000.html
The first thing you might notice are the ages of these “children”. It would appear that the vast majority are between the ages of 12 and 17. The second point of notice in that the number one cause of death for those in this age group is “killed by IDF gunfire…at a demonstration”. Of the 91 listed for 2000, I counted 13 who weren’t killed at a “demonstration”, while throwing rocks, or while trying to stop a tank. Of those, two were killed by being hit by an Israeli “settler’s” car, and while some were shot, no details are given. 85% of those under the age of 18 killed in 2000 died at a “demonstration” or while conducting violent acts. That’s pretty telling.

Another thing, those “deaths” apparently include things like:
23 March 2001: Isra Ahmad, 11, of Nablus, died at an IDF checkpoint when she was prevented from reaching a hospital.
So victims of the conflict now includes deaths due to lack of medical treatment (which Israel isn’t obligated to provide) and those hit by cars if the driver lives in a “settlement”. Interesting how much information those numbers leave out.

If several Palestianians attack several Israelis and the Israelis fire back, to be fair should there be equal casualties on both sides?
So when Patton attacked German troops to be fair, should there have been equal casualties on both sides. If that is you calculus, then there is not a word to describe your insanity.
Most people would call killing more of them then they kill of you after they attack 1st a good day.

Posted on February 17, 2013 at 3:02pm“Where are those same anniversaries for the Palestinian families killed by the Israelis?”
Well Jerk, I remember there being a memorial held on a college campus in the US for Palestinians killed in Cast Lead. But instead of just mourning the dead, the attendants were preached to about how Israel was guilty of war crimes. They politicized the deaths of innocents. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, when they ended the presentation with a list of children killed by “Israeli aggression”, they included all of the child soldiers who picked up guns against the Israeli soldiers.
It’s amazing how the anti-Israel crowd can’t seem to do anything that doesn’t involve demonizing Israel. Meanwhile, the only Palestinians mentioned anywhere at this memorial were the two murderers, whose names weren’t mentioned. Nothing against Abbas’ refusal to negotiate, nothing about how many likely view the monsters who did this as heroes, and nothing about seeking vengeance. Today was about the victims and yet that’s not good enough for you.
