An 18-year-old Chicago woman was shot and killed Friday night, just hours after her younger sister sat onstage behind President Barack Obama as he spoke about gun violence.

Janay Mcfarlane was visiting friends and family when she was shot once in the head around 11:30 p.m. Friday in North Chicago, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The bullet had been meant for a friend, said her mother, Angela Blakely. Mcfarlane had a 3-month-old son.

“I really feel like somebody cut a part of my heart out,” Blakely said.

Hours before the slaying, Mcfarlane’s 14-year-old sister Destini was part of a group of teens who sat onstage behind the president when he delivered remarks at Hyde Park Career Academy.

“Barack Obama said teenagers are killing each other,” Destini Mcfarlane told the Sun-Times Saturday. “He was saying we need to cut down on street violence.”

Mcfarlane’s murder was apparently separate from the four shootings that took place in Chicago within a 90-minute period after Obama left. Those shootings occurred between about 5:55 p.m. and 7:20 p.m.; Mcfarlane was killed several hours later.

In his first extensive remarks about the overwhelming gun violence plaguing his adopted hometown, Obama paid tribute to Hadiya Pendleton, the 15-year-old honor student fatally shot last month in a park days after performing at his second inauguration.

Blakely told the Sun-Times her daughter had been deeply affected by Pendleton’s death.

“She always said after Hadiya Pendleton got killed, ‘Momma that’s so sad,’” Blakely said. “She was always touched by any kid that got killed. She was always touched by mothers who couldn’t be there for their babies because they were gone.”

Mcfarlane had been on track to graduate from an alternative school this spring and hoped to work in the culinary arts. Her infant son, Jayden, is now without a mother but has a supportive extended family, Blakely said.

“I’m just really, truly just trying to process it — knowing that I’m not taking my baby home any more,” she said.

      2. Alaska
      3. Luisiana
      4. Wyoming
      5. Arizona
      6. Nevada
      7. Mississippi
      8. New Mexico
      9. Arkansas
      10. Alabama
      26. Texas
      31. Illinois

      49. Massachusetts
      50. Hawaii
      http://www.statemaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-death-rate-per-100-000

Eye opening huh? if you look at the first 20, they are all red states with really loose gun laws! excluding the district of columbia…. so to recap.. of the top 20 states with the highest Firearms death rate 19 of them are Red States! while states with stricter gun laws such as New York, Mass, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine all finish in the bottom ten lowest gun related death rates…. hard to argue that!

Keaton apparently has a problem distinguishing cities from states.

Chicago is a cesspool. And the crime there is primarily black-on-black gang/drug/thug crime. It ain’t the middle-aged, white, employed/tax-paying suburbanite with a few AR-15s in his safe that’s the problem, that’s for sure.

Just another sad day in Chicagoland… Pregnant teenager with no husband in sight. Dead at 18 and leaving a child with no parent to care for him/her. That child will grow up into the same mess as her mother with help from the demonrats and the victim bullcrap they peddle.

We don’t have a gun problem, we have a morality problem. And the FBI’s UCR show where that problem lives.

Here’s a start on what might be a more meaningful statistic: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6018a1.htm . It would be interesting to correlate gang activity with this analysis. I’m not sure how meaningful suicide rates are. If people want to destroy themselves, they’ll find a way. No sense blaming it on a gun! Maybe the American Community Survey could do something useful and, instead of asking “How many times have you been married?” and “How much is your electric/gas/water bill?”, they could ask “How many times have you been killed by a gun?” or “How many times have you been killed by a gang?” Surely, THAT would be a better WASTE OF TAXPAYER MONEY, than the present survey, WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LOCATING FIRE DEPARTMENTS! Sheesh! Bunch of stupid people too lazy tp call the utilities and ask THEM how much their bills are! And, I’m still trying to figure out why some overpaid bureaucrat in Washington needs to pry so deeply into my PERSONAL life!

Keaton- This link doesn’t take into account what this guy said on the website.

“Remember that these are not murders with guns, these are deaths with guns. These stats have nothing to do with crime. If a state has a high amount of people “allowed” to carry guns and to keep them in their homes, and because of that there are a lot of criminals killed by citizens defending themselves and their property, then that state will be high on the list.

States low on the list may have have a lot of citizens and homeowners bludgeoned to death by criminals, but you would never know it by these stats.”

Cities with the Highest Rates of Total Gun-Related Deaths
      (per 100,000 people)
      Rank City City Rate
      Ratio
      1 New Orleans 69.1
      2 Detroit 41.4
      3 Las Vegas 36.9
      4 Miami 33.5
      5 Baltimore 33.1

      7 Richmond 29.9
      8 Memphis. 25.5
      9 Cleveland 25.2
      10 Philadelphia 24.3

Any way you look at it, primarily Black metropolitan areas are dangerous places to live. Any listing of statewide rates obscures this fact. Statistics can seem to prove just about anything as long as the writer manipulates them enough.

      Keaton, this from CNN.
Based on statistics from 2010, Philadelphia’s homicide rate is about 20 killings per 100,000 people, according to FBI statistics. By comparison, cities with smaller populations have murder rates far worse than Philadelphia, including New Orleans at 49.1, St. Louis at 40.5 and Baltimore at 34.8

While Louisiana is a red state New Orleans is surely a blue city as are the others from this story.
The problem IS liberal great society policies and the decay in these cities. No “pride in ownership”.

One gang banger from Chi Town can distort the rates and make ALASKA #1 in an afternoon. For example, Newtown was on the bottom of the list until that Liberal Democrat nut job Obama supporter discovered the Sandy Hook School Board were negligent in their school security practices and posted it as a GUN FREE ZONE. Then decided to create a crisis to help the Communist In Chief undermine the Constitution and disarm the law abiding American citizen.

NO Keaton, — First of all, your stats source is an “Error”, probably because it is from 2002, over a decade ago. Second of all, deaths per 100,000 is a bogus statistic, and without being able to check the source, it could be a that cops are quicker to shoot. in a state, or who no what else. Look brother, find yourself some faith of some sort, it doesn’t have to be religion. Step away from the indoctrination and while I know it is scary, try to think for yourself for once. You will that once you break free from the very social construct your indoctrination warned you about, you will be half way there to learning who it is you really are and not who you think you are supposed to be. As long as you continue to believe all the crap they fill your head with, there is little hope you come to know who you are. If you have higher than an average intelligence, suicide is very possible if you don’t find a new path. The contrast of reality and what you have been force fed will only drive you to insanity. While the persona you have come to develop may be a sound barrier to hide behind, a purposeless existence is still the end result. If you want some meaning in your life, to find some purpose that is fulfilling, not needing to pour more and more into the empty void inside, you will have to take a step that requires a great deal of courage and is a humbling process. Let go of the reins and accept that you are not in control… In doing so, you can be free my friend ..

Actually, if you look at the FBI stats from 2012, they confirm what Keaton posted, although the order might be slightly different. Furthermore, you folks citing total numbers obviously don’t know a thing about statistics. The FBI stats reference murders per unit of population, meaning statistucal likelihood. While Cali may have 1500 gun deaths per year, it’s a much smaller percentage out of its 58 million person population, than 500 gun deaths about be out of a state with 5 million people. The truth is, on average, states with lax gun laws are statistically more dangerious for gun violence than states with gun control.

Keaton, you might want to check your sources.

I live in CT and New haven (the home of Yale) is in the top 5 most violent cities in this country, with a death toll in 2013 of around 12-15 already. and lets not even bring up Bridgeport. So how can a state with a city in the top 5 most violent, be one of the lowest ranking states with gun violence? try getting your sources from a legitimate news agency, though in your defense, those are hard to come by. And for your info, Chicago IS the most violent City in America, as of the publishing of this comment, not DC.

Chicago is what happens when you let gang bangers run wild. there’s a reason this stuff happens in gun controlled cities. NYC, another example. Try that crap where I live and you’ll get **** in the face.

What’s even more amazing is that IL as only a 20% legal ownership rate, DC 4% and NY 18% and they make the list as opposed to VT (42% – and some of the least restrictive gun laws).

Could it be CRIMINALS don’t follow the law? Other factors besides gun ownership? Of course, that would destroy the DEM Propaganda Machine theme that we will all be safer under their watchful eye (literally).

I think the answer to those gun stats lie in the fact that States are being rated and not cities…of course Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, NYC, LA, and other large cities have the top killing rates…..Chicago had 500+ deaths in the past year…it was on the NBC news…and a red state can be almost entirely “law abiding” but a war Zone city will give it bad name no matter what…
I think JIMBO65 has the right stats.
Plus, don’t leave out the Drug Cartels…they like to hide in sleepy little towns like Galax,VA, a famous home of fiddling and Burlington, NC .. Just don’t get caught in the crossfire…
NC is also home to too many PC Gun Free Zone lovers…which is where most of the killing takes place.
Schools, Colleges, Movie theatres, restaurants…and strict gun ban laws…
      Why would one expect otherwise?

“Chicago woman was shot and killed Friday night …”

Sorry, this story has got to be a hoax – it is impossible for someone to be shot in Chicago, because, thanks to liberals, Chicago is a GUN FREE ZONE. Chicago is a peaceful, gun-free, liberal utopia.

Gov. sticking there noses in raising families, giving money out for children, paying for food and housing by the number of children who do not have a father living in the household, dependents know only this way. The ones that have out grown this type of thinking have moved to better sections of town. They know the truth but the handouts are embedded to deep in this society to save this generation, now that jobs are hard to find this socialism will get stronger with more violence carried out by fist, knives, guns or gang punishment.

So, he’s in Chicago pushing for gun control–that only restricts law abiding Citizens. Meanwhile, Chicago name a Mexican drug lord as their public enemy #1. Overwhelmingly, gangs involved in drug peddling are responsible for the outo of control gun violence in Chi-town, and the Godfather ignores it.

Do you folks on the left NOW understand that gun control has nothing to do with violence?

They already know it has nothing to do with gun control. They also could care less about the victims. All they care about is control and that’s what all this gun legislation popping up everywhere is about.

Chicago freakin’ sucks. Are people living there so blind to the fact that even MORE strict gun laws are in no way going to help them or anyone else? How about attending rallies that promote SMARTER gun laws and gun EDUCATION. We need people to stop running away from a problem that will chase them and instead deal with it in intelligent and rational ways.

as long as there are still no universal background checks in Chicago, criminals will still be able to access guns with ease. I am not saying universal background checks will solve the problem completely, but they will help, and that is better than nothing!

You know I do not like calling people names so I will try not to call you an idiot. Your gun stats above are off. Background checks are not going to stop criminals from getting guns. They get them off the street. They could care less about gun laws. Why do you libs not go after the gangs instead of law abiding citizens. Keep pushing. The tipping point is about here.

It is incredible that the Keaton and its’ ilk do not understand that criminals do not submit to background checks, and get their weapons illegally. The interesting thing is that they are not even ashamed and keep posting sheer stupidity as if they were somehow making an intelligent point. I would say liberals have a diseased mind, but, you would have to have one first.

Soon we will all know the names and faces of her family in the name of “gun violence”
Which in it self is a ridicules phrase.

This has become a trend. Looks like Obama is either running with a ruff crowd or he is a bad luck charm. Russian bombers in US airspace, the lightning strike at the Vatican, asteroid close flyby, meteor strikes in Russia, California and somewhere else, if that is what they were and not some war game of some sort. If I were superstitious I would say 2013 (13) is going to be a bad year.
