Woman Killed in Chicago Hours After Her Sister Sat Behind Obama on Stage

An 18-year-old Chicago woman was shot and killed Friday night, just hours after her younger sister sat onstage behind President Barack Obama as he spoke about gun violence.

Janay Mcfarlane was visiting friends and family when she was shot once in the head around 11:30 p.m. Friday in North Chicago, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The bullet had been meant for a friend, said her mother, Angela Blakely. Mcfarlane had a 3-month-old son.

“I really feel like somebody cut a part of my heart out,” Blakely said.

Hours before the slaying, Mcfarlane’s 14-year-old sister Destini was part of a group of teens who sat onstage behind the president when he delivered remarks at Hyde Park Career Academy.

“Barack Obama said teenagers are killing each other,” Destini Mcfarlane told the Sun-Times Saturday. “He was saying we need to cut down on street violence.”

Mcfarlane’s murder was apparently separate from the four shootings that took place in Chicago within a 90-minute period after Obama left. Those shootings occurred between about 5:55 p.m. and 7:20 p.m.; Mcfarlane was killed several hours later.

In his first extensive remarks about the overwhelming gun violence plaguing his adopted hometown, Obama paid tribute to Hadiya Pendleton, the 15-year-old honor student fatally shot last month in a park days after performing at his second inauguration.

Blakely told the Sun-Times her daughter had been deeply affected by Pendleton’s death.

“She always said after Hadiya Pendleton got killed, ‘Momma that’s so sad,’” Blakely said. “She was always touched by any kid that got killed. She was always touched by mothers who couldn’t be there for their babies because they were gone.”

Mcfarlane had been on track to graduate from an alternative school this spring and hoped to work in the culinary arts. Her infant son, Jayden, is now without a mother but has a supportive extended family, Blakely said.

“I’m just really, truly just trying to process it — knowing that I’m not taking my baby home any more,” she said.

The graph then points out where the VIOLENCE that needs to be addressed is occurring. No surprise it is mostly happening in your liberal enclaves with stringent gun controls and NOT in conservative areas as you suggested at all. (Gun banned DC remains at the top in BOTH graphs BTW.)

PLUS, the weighted deaths per 100k using YOUR chart vs vehicle is an average of 15.1 motor deaths to 11.5 firearm deaths (of which MORE than half that number are suicides.

Let’s get ALL the facts and present them properly next go-round.

That is not a gang tat people if you look close. A lot of teens as well of adults now get tats not just gang bangers. Please don’t try to label her. Let her RIP. I feel sorry for her family. Some people are stuck where they live. I for one could not move if this nice area I live in turned bad.

  The police know who all the gang bangers are in every city. But thanks to the ACLU they can’t do anything to them until they kill some innocent kids then it takes forever. Then appeal after appeal.

Comparing gun death rates between Chicago and entire states is like comparing apples and oranges. Two entirely different things. Chicago compares unfavorably with Afghanistan!

When I was a kid the cops could stop us for any reason. Kids didn’t have rights then. If we went back to that, and the kids were stopped and frisked at will, then they would be less likely to be packin’ for fear that they might get caught and sent to the pokey. The cops might find that they were carrying illicit drugs also.

I wonder how many people have starved to death after each one of Obama’s speeches? How many people have died in car crashes in the carnage of our highways/rush hour traffic? How many people have died for lack of medical care after each one of his speeches? Or, how many people have died as a result of withheld medical care? How many of those had medical care withheld (a) at THEIR final wish, (b) at the decision of their family, (c) at the decision/recommendation of their medical provider, or, (d) by a bureaucrat, deciding that granny shouldn’t get a liver, or (e) they just couldn’t wait to get someone’s cornea, etc? One beneficial side effect of a gunshot death is the instant availability of donor organs, sometimes not as damaged as they would be by car accident! (Ewww, gross! I can’t believe I just wrote that! But, some day, we might have gangs performing murder for hire to make organs available for transplant! Twisted, huh!)
