Man Charged With Slapping Baby on Flight and Using N-Word Now ‘No Longer Employed’

NBC12.com – Richmond, VA News, Weather, Traffic

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A man charged with slapping a toddler on a Minneapolis-to-Atlanta flight is out of a job, his former employer said Sunday.

Joe Rickey Hundley, 60, of Hayden, Idaho, is no longer an employee of AGC Aerospace and Defense, Composites Group, Daniel Keeney of DPK Public Relations confirmed Sunday night.

Al Haase, president and CEO of AGC, issued a statement early Sunday that, while not referring to Hundley by name, called reports of behavior by one of its executives on recent personal travel “offensive and disturbing” and said he “is no longer employed with the company.” Keeney would not say whether Hundley was fired or resigned. Hundley was president of AGC’s Unitech Composites and Structures unit.

Hundley was charged last week in federal court in Atlanta with simple assault for allegedly slapping the 2-year-old boy during the Feb. 8 flight. His attorney, Marcia Shein, of Decatur, Ga., said Saturday that Hundley will plead not guilty. The charge carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail.

Shein did not immediately returned messages seeking comment left Sunday evening by The Associated Press. Hundley does not have a listed phone number.

The boy’s mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, told the FBI their flight was on final descent into Atlanta when her 19-month-old son started to cry due to the altitude change. Hundley “told her to shut that (N-word) baby up,” FBI special agent Daron Cheney said in a sworn statement. She said Hundley then slapped him in the face, scratching the boy below his right eye and causing him to scream even louder.

Bennett told Twin Cities television stations on Saturday that the incident has caused her family a great deal of trauma and that her son, Jonah, had been outgoing but had turned apprehensive of strangers.

Hundley became increasingly obnoxious and appeared intoxicated during the flight and complained that her son was too big to sit on her lap, she said.

“He reeked of alcohol,” Bennett told KARE-TV. “He was belligerent, and I was uncomfortable.”

Bennett said she was shocked by the racial slur she says Hundley used when Jonah started crying.

“And I said, `What did you say?’ because I couldn’t believe that he would say that,” she told WCCO-TV. “He fell onto my face and his mouth was in my ear and he said it again but even more hateful. And he’s on my face, so I pushed him away.”

Bennett and her husband are white, while Jonah, whom they adopted, is black.

“We wish to emphasize that the behavior that has been described is contradictory to our values, embarrassing and does not in any way reflect the patriotic character of the men and women of diverse backgrounds who work tirelessly in our business,” Haase said in his statement.

TheBlaze … what’s an “N-Word”? Is “n-word” one of those foreign language oddball words with the dashes and the accents? Or is it something more insidious … like … POLITICAL CORRECTNESS?

PRESIDENT: “You’ve got something against the English language, Colonel?”
      COL.CASEY: “No, sir.”
PRESIDENT: “Then speak it plainly if you will.”

I have the sad feeling that you have no idea what you’re talking about. Slapping children is wrong, Whether black or white. I do discipline my children but getting physical with someone elses children. That is a line that should not be crossed. That is ultimately the point of the story. Using the N-word is just showing the condition of the mans heart

This is the comments section at TheBlaze. We don’t have the power to change anything here, not even someone’s mind. You come across as very smug, self-important, and lacking in basic social skills. But an old, drunk white man who’s an “executive”. and the story will go on and on until he is unemployed. If the guy was old and black or Muslim, and smacked a white kid, the race/religion or even his profession would not have been mentioned. And he’d probably keep his job.Of course he should not have done it, and he was wrong for doing it, but why didn’t the plane crew do their job and keep an eye on him. How did he board the plane? A lot of people are getting fed up with holier than thou attitudes and self rightgeous protection of blacks. Watch commercials lately, the only person depicted as smart is the person of color, if you can even find a white in a commercial. For some reason the leftists seem to think we should all love their kids as much as they do. Screaming kids are an inconvienience and a sign of rude parents. He should not have slapped the little bugger, but the use of the so called “N” word is legal and protected, and used constantly by the protected class…blacks. In closing…what does his actions have to do with his job? When Clinton got caught getting Lewinski’s we were told his personal life nad no reflectiuon on his job. “Holier than thou protection of blacks?” Are you serious? The last time I checked blacks and other minorities were far more likely to be discriminated against, denied opportunities, and targeted by law enforcement. This “man’s” drunken behavior has everything to do with his job. He was the president of a company–the professional and moral example of leadership–meaning that, like Clinton, he was held to the highest ethical standards. This “man’s” behavior was abhorrent and beyond reprehensibility and should be loathed by every sane individual. You should be ashamed for trying to justify assaulting a toddler by citing trivial television ads and the the legal status of racial slander.

The man is a hateful monster and unfit to be around children. He would not have said what he said nor slapped the kid if the kid had been in the care of a Black couple. He just would not have gone there, so he is a coward to boot.

As for the media trashing White Americans all day long, I also have noted this to the complete amazement of my family. Its all day long and nearly every commercial you watch. The people are constantly depicted as inept, idiotic, uninformed and just absolutely inhuman. Here are some recent examples that come to mind.

Beastiality: Pig is out on a date with a White girl who is itching for some action but the pig is to caught up in his online pursuits. Switch, that scenario around and make the girl a person of color. You could not do that and it would have been met with outrage but yet it flys when the person is white.

Childrens cartoons. There are two separate cartoons depicting the white child or person as a pig. All the other kids are identifiable as to be human and are of color, but when I say where is the white kid, he shows up in the form of a pig with human clothes. They beat this into our minds at all levels.

A white father and white son are playing catch on the front lawn and its a VW commerical OBTW. The father throws the ball like a complete sissy (exaggerated) to his kid and teaches the kid thats how to throw properly. Its complete nonsense and has no place in trying to sell the darn car.

The obvious meaning was she should have went for the black guy and not trusted the internet..

regardless one of countless examples but my question to you George is this just random or planned? See my post below as well.. You know who I say is behind this and that it is well thought out orchestrated and planned..

When will you see the most obvious George? Why are you so blinded to the truth?

Response to CharlieHunter, although it seems off key to relate this to politics, there is indeed a connection. I’ve seen the same thing develop over the last 20 years. There are many more who have noticed it. One could write a thesis. How does it relate to this woman letting her child run wild for hours? Probably not a direct connection to what happened on that flight. But it is the reason the news media trolls for incidents like this, to denigrate white people because it makes them money. For every single incident where the white person is the perpetrator, there are a dozen where the black is the criminal. That is either not reported, or kept to the local news.

Alice, there is nothing political about this incident or its media coverage. One could write a thesis on how you people habitually interject race and politics into every conversation. I think you’re trying too hard to portray white people as victims of media bias. Not every burglary, murder, or assault deserves media coverage. I postulate that nearly 85 percent of the criminal news articles that I read involve blacks as the suspects. Therefore, if there is a conscious media bais attempting to sway social opinion, then it would undoubtedly be in favor of white people. Despite all of this, you seem to overlook the fact that a drunken adult male physically assaulted a child. It doesn’t matter if the child ran wild for hours.

Galt, a few months after the GeorgeZimmerman/TrayvonMartin news, several black men followed a white woman home from the store. They forced their way into their apt by gunpoint, gangraped the woman in front of her husband for hours, shot the husband in the head, poured clorox down the woman’s throat and slowly suffocated her. In court they said they committed this crime because they wanted to rape a white woman. Zimmerman/Martin was still in the news when this happened. This never made national headlines. A year later the black racist murderers were possibly going to be released on a technicality. The KKK protested this miscarriage of justice. The news reported the protest as a KKK hate march. They never mentioned the underlying crime that was being protested. Some senile old man slaps a black child and it’s national news, but truly heinous crimes committed by blacks against whites are kept low key. It is about politics. If the liberal media reported in a fair and balanced way, they would drive brainwashed liberals away from the Democrat party.

The perpetrators are serving life sentences; I’m upset that they weren’t killed. Anyhow, I do not subscribe to any notions which may support the assinine theory of a anti-white media bias.

Perhaps that is because they commit that percentage of crimes.. Far more than their proportions anyway.

I idid not see the story Alice alluded to eventhough I follow the news very closely including alternative news.. There’s definitely a coverup in order to promote multiculturalism in America because if the avg white man and woman knew the truth it would be outright rejected no questions asked.. So they must manipulate the data and promote it.

      It’s as simple as that.

@JohnGalt, I generally don’t think of it very much, but to a small degree, you might be right. My husband is black, but we don’t usually see discrimination because when you meet us we look more like a typical Christian family than your stereotypical “ghetto” black family. How you portray yourself does make a difference in how people treat you.

Anyway, we’ve had two very odd traffic stops over the years. I didn’t think that it could be racial until you pointed it out, but it’s possible.

Once, we were driving home from spending the 4th of July with our friends. The police stopped us, saying that a crime had been committed in the area (their neighborhood wasn’t the best). They wanted to make sure we had nothing to do with it. I had never been stopped for something like that before.

The second time, the police pulled us over for a burnt out license plate light (I didn’t know that was even an infraction). They asked us all sorts of stupid questions, like did we have a suspended license, had we been drinking (just soda), were we on drugs, etc. It was the stupidest thing; it was just like he was pulling us over on a bogus charge to make sure that we weren’t idiots or something. After he determined that we weren’t idiots, he let us go (not that that would have held up in court). I’ve never been pulled over for something that dumb when I was by myself.

I’ve traveled without my husband several times. He sometimes can’t take much time off work, and I work online for myself, so my job is portable… so sometimes I’ll take the kids and visit my family, and he might come up later. It’s not a crime, nor does it imply that my family is not a traditional, two-parent family. We’ve been married for 14 years.

My question to the Blaze followers and Beck groupies is why does FOX News feel the need to run this pathetic story 24/7? Is it ugly and is it racist? Yes it is but what’s the end result of it?

Is it just to further alienate the intolerant white male from the mainstream of American politic? If this is not driven by a political agenda then why not run the innumerable stories of Black on White Murder and Rape which has reached epidemic proportions in the majority of America’s most urban centers or nowadays known as cesspools of filth and degradation?

This shows you fellow conservatives that while FOX may be a little to the right of CNN and MSNBC they are not to be trusted and neither is Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Levine, Oreilly, or Limbaugh. They all preach Globalism and Multiculturalism no matter the consequences for they are all fed at the trough of Corporatism. Now I’m an Adam Smith Capitalist but that does not imply anything goes in the name of the bottom-line.

Now on FEB 12, the website Council of Conservative Citizens ran a story about a brutal and vicious hate crime.. Simply incredibly demonic but FOX news, CNN, MSNBC do not feel the need to share such an event with their audience. Why? We all know why and that’s why I hold the Media in such contempt. If Justice is ever served in America then these people will have hell to pay.

The headline reads “a pretty 13 yr old white child was brutally raped and murdered in Fair, Ca. The suspect is a 32 yr

Learn a lesson righties. Free speech comes with consequences. You can use as much racial rhetoric as you want, just don’t whine when people react harshly. Consequences come with every action. The right likes to think they can just say anything and not expect anybody to react to it.

What ever happened to us all.. we were all American’s, we all had different idea’s, dreams, wants.. and for the most part we did not look down our noses at those who had.. I pity anyone who purposely divides us. We are about to enter the times that try mens souls.. and we can choose good or evil!

I think that EastInfection is correct. There is a proportionally larger supply of black babies up for adoption compared to black couples that want to adopt, compared to the supply of white babies up for adoption and the white couples that want to adopt. I’m not sure if it’s because more white people adopt, or because more black people give up their babies. All I know is that there are people that wait years to adopt a healthy white infant, but there isn’t as much demand for black infants.

Racism is ugly and wrong, but not illegal under the constitution. To fire him and make him a pariah is fine, but we need to protect free speech and thought of all people.

Racism against one race is no different than racism against another. To rule otherwise, is wicked and unjust.

Perhaps the mother should have controlled her precious little treasure.

Now, the guy should have never, if he actually did, struck the kid. She is culpable here as well. She is most likely a “holier than thou” “diversity is our greatest strength” liberal socialist progressive. Even if she is not, she failed miserably. She could have gotten up and gone to the rest room or if she was not permitted to do that placed a pillow and blanket around the child in order to shield the rest of her fellow passengers from the offensive assault of her precious angel. I friggin despise people who will not control their crumb crunchers. Again, Hundley is alleged to have done this and he should only be guilty of battery, period, if he is convicted on the evidence. The woman in my opinion is the aggressor and initiated the entire incident. Think about this… Had she looked into Mr. Hundley’s face and sincerely apologized for her failure as a parent he might have suffered her precious’ machinations and offensive wailing. Her pride and aire of superiority methinks prompted this entire affair. Just my opinion…. while I am still able to have one publicly.

Wow! It’s the woman’s fault? You really need to spend less time commenting on blogs and revealing your disturbing ignorance to all. Not that you don’t have the right to be a total jerk, but most people don’t usually advertise that they are. Blankets, pillows, are you suggesting she should have smothered her son with a pillow? Can’t help but notice that you seem to be sticking up for the racist drunk who thinks hitting crying children is how you stop the noise. Please, do us all a big favor.

@tim- You are an idiot! My guess is that you don’t have kids. I also suspect that had you been on the flight, you would not have had the stones to grab the old drunk by the lip, twist hard to get his attention and then make him aware that if he touched that little kid again he would be leaving the plane with his teeth in his pocket.

I don’t know how things are done in the land of fruits and nuts but where I come from, we don’t treat women and children like that-we protect them.

Should have said I concur with Timsincali. The woman’s complete disregard for the other passengers does not excuse the drunk’s reaction, but it was a “reaction” to her deliberately letting her child run wild. This was NOT about a mother desperately trying to help her child adapt to changing air pressure. It was a mother who flat didn’t care and let the brat run wild up and down the aisles the entire flight.

The man’s actions were to create a hateful incident and he should be prosecuted to the maximum. On the other hand, the parents are creating another hate filled child that will become obvious when he reaches the age to join a gang. They should not mention it and make a huge impression on his life. Children forget about bad things if the parents quit forcing the child to respond to something he isn’t aware of. It’s just promoting the Jackson, Sharpton agenda.

The feds should ban alcohol. Oh wait a minute, they did. Didn’t work. All it did was create a huge gangster network. More people’s lives were ruined by the solution, than by the problem. The only thing we seem to learn from history is that we don’t learn from history. After the brilliant success of the alcohol ban, we had the brilliant successes of the recreational drug ban, the poverty ban (LBJ’s War on Poverty), and now they want to ban the guns we need to protect ourselves from the gangsters they’ve empowered and enriched with their bans. And, of course, the guns we need to protect ourselves from the biggest gangsters of them all: politicians. They will come to take your guns. And then when you can’t protect your property anymore they will take that. And then when they’ve taken everything you have, they will come to take your life. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Castro, and now Obama. All the same. You didn’t learn from history, and now you’ll become but history. Vaya Con Dios, my friends.

So a question for you who think that you shouldn’t bring a 2 year old onto a plane. I’ve brought a 2 year old onto a flight before (we even flew business class, the horrors!). Dd was well-behaved, btw. One time we flew with our toddler, then 18 months, was because we were living in Italy and we were moving back to the United States. How do you propose one move from one continent to another without going on a plane? It’s not like they have ships to transport you across the ocean like they used to have in the 1800s (cruise ships are not the same thing), and you can’t drive.

While I do believe that you should 1) teach your kids to be well-behaved in the first place, and 2) do all that is in your power to get your kids to behave in enclosed public spaces like airplanes… in some cases, people have to take their toddlers on planes.
