‘Orwellian’: Proposed Gun Law in Washington State Calls on Police to Inspect the Homes of ‘Assault Weapon’ Owners

Proposed Gun Law in Washington State Calls on Police to Inspect the Homes of So Called Assault Weapon Owners

With each proposed anti-gun bill put forth by Democrats across the U.S., the demands appear to be getting more and more restrictive on gun owners. While the Obama administration pushes for a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and universal background checks, Democrats in both California and Missouri have proposed legislation that would result in possible confiscation of semi-automatic rifles.

Now, Democratic lawmakers in Olympia, Wash. last week introduced legislation that would allow county sheriffs to inspect the homes of semi-automatic rifle owners once a year. Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat describes the move as “Orwellian.”

The proposed bill, Senate Bill 5737, would ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons that use detachable magazines and magazines that contain more than 10 rounds. It would also subject law-abiding gun owners to random searches by a county sheriff.

“In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall … safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection,” the bill states.

“They always say, we’ll never go house to house to take your guns away. But then you see this, and you have to wonder,” Seattle trial lawyer Lance Palmer told the Seattle Times.

“I’m a liberal Democrat — I’ve voted for only one Republican in my life,” Palmer added. “But now I understand why my right-wing opponents worry about having to fight a government takeover.”

He also said it’s this type of radical bill that “drives people into the arms of the NRA.”

One of the bill’s sponsors, State Sen. Adam Kline (D-Seattle), told the Seattle Times that he didn’t properly vet the bill prior to jumping on board. He claims he didn’t realize the bill authorized police searches.

“I made a mistake,” he said. “I frankly should have vetted this more closely.”

The legislation’s main sponsor, Sen. Ed Murray (D-Seattle) also blasted the search provision written in his bill, saying it is likely unconstitutional.

“I have to admit that shouldn’t be in there,” he said.

Murray also explained that an assault weapons ban isn’t likely to pass anyhow and the bill was intended to be a blueprint for gun legislation in the future. With the search provision included, the bill has very little chance of passing.

It wasn’t immediately clear which lawmaker wrote the search provision into the bill.

UPDATE: Following up on a tip from a reader, TheBlaze has discovered that Democrats in Minnesota are also pushing for a gun confiscation bill using almost identical language as the bill proposed in Missouri.

From MN H.F. No. 241, as introduced – 88th Legislative Session (2013-2014) Posted on Jan 31, 2013:

(1) remove the weapon from the state;

“….the bill was to be a blueprint for gun legislation in the future”. THIS MAN JUST TOLD US WHAT THEY’RE GOING TO DO!!

We the people – have to deal with this onslaught PLUS have to deal with Liberal nut balls that are killing under an “assumed Right wing status” as to invoke civil war! NOW…my question is, is everyone watching the “other hand”? Oby is consistant with one thing. That is to complete two to three parts of his agenda at one time, in which one of those is an all out fake in order to get us off guard about the others.

PLEASE NOTE that Pelosi is still very strangly quiet across the board. This is NOT her personality nor her history in office. There IS a reason for her silence, and is it due to “she knows something” or because her focus is working within the “other hand”.

Mexico border will be open, and America is being openly overthrown by this Admin. And there is nothing we as citizens can do to save America. The Dems have instructed the media to demonize every person and group that tries to inform the public about what’s going on. Until the Liberal citizens wake up, we have no chance to save this Country. The “young and bored” Liberals came up with thinking communism is “cool”, and this Admin. is running with the ball and praising the young people for “having open minds”. It’s very hard to stop a train like that.

Wake up people. the only answer is for all law abiding gun owners to adopt a 100% non compliance policy. No we will not Register or disclose anything to the government.. it is quite obvious the governments intention is total confiscation. in addition it is becoming obvious based on the governments purchasing of hollow point ammo they mean to pick a fight with the people. cooperation at this point would be stupid.

What took 20-30 years to makes its way into the populous from academia or the Press, or any social depraved group now takes a few years. Change is happening very fast, and the fish that does not move quickly and protects itself is swept downstream to the bay where that fish is no longer in his territory, ending up being an easy prey. The something with Conservatives and Traditionalist, if we do not organize quickly, not only will we lose our way of defending ourselves, but will very quickly lose it all, including our lives (depending on what kind of chaos ensues in the next few years). Beware!

Again I have to spell out the obvious. Oby knew of the push back. So while all eyes are on Washington (DC), he has every Senator in place to produce their bill on confiscating guns IN EACH INDIVIDUAL STATE. This way he isn’t the ‘bad guy’, it will be the States who “decided what’s best for their citizens”.

PEOPLE(!) please open your eyes and see that this Admin. is being very open on their intent to overthrow America. Oby knows he cannot get a gun confiscation done on Capital Hill, so he has had it in place with EVERY individual State to enact when he gets in the second term.

The focus is not to just take guns out of public hands. The focus is this is a needed step in order for the Admin. to declare the “new America”, and at that time will take down the border between us and Mexico. This has been the plan with the U.N. and U.S. Gov. since Clinton. Even Bush Jr. was struggling on what new ‘money’ to use, and what to call it. Please understand that come hell or high water, this Admin. WILL succeed in its agenda because it has been planned step by step for decades. The Oby clan studied every moment in history and KNOW which way our focus turns during a given event. And they have altered the way to get their final agenda through by means of working through ‘back doors’.

The Nebraska Governor has just announced that he won’t run again. There is a REASON for this, and it isn’t good for the people.

Many pistols have clips that contains more than 10 rounds as do other firearms. Criminals do not care about SB 5737, making it worthless in preventing gun atrocities. All this does is punish law biding gun owners, ultimately costing them fees to possess what they own and possible jail time (confiscation of their firearms). It does NOT prevent gun crimes. Find some meaningful ways to effectively combat gun violence. Try to THINK outside the political sphere that you operate within.

This is precisely why no one should register their weapons. Do you NOT think this information will be used against you? If not then you’re in glittering denial. Say, how many weapons do I have? Last count 18 with 30,000 rounds so pack a lunch politico’s because public law enforcement as a whole will not be taking away Dad’s or Granddads firearms that they learned gun safety with as youngsters. However the biggest issues here are the unconstitutional demands propounded upon our middle aged and senior populations. Not gonna happen politicos. You may pass laws but if you get 2% compliance I’d call that a success because we’ll follow the laws in the same spirit as Obama who doesn’t. And those law enforcement Captains, lieutenants and sergeants that are doing the televised pressers on behalf of this unlawful activity need to know we’re taking copious notes and that Obama aint gonna be in office forever but the anxiety, pain, arrogance, personal and hurtful insults from of this administration will live on forever and so will those who doubled down on this. Got it?

The Democrats and Progressives are pushing across the board, harder and harder to get someone to strike back and strike hard so they will have their ‘event’ to crush the nation once and for all. If they cannot provoke an event, they will manufacture one.

Look at what they continue to do, ever more repressive violations of our rights, if we do nothing they win, if someone strikes out, they win.

We are now on the eve of a revolution indeed. And Obama will ensure it is one of blood and fire if his madness remains unchecked.

Although I am not a gun owner, I see this administration and our state governments as infringing on the Constitution. This is unlawful search and seizure of legally owned property! And, what is to stop these people from confiscating and pilfering of other belongings when they do their once a year search? See a necklace sitting there or a ring or something else that’s shiny, and they would have no problem pilfering? This is Marxism and Naziism on the march in this Country. Ownership of anything will soon be out the window. Impeach those in your state House and Assembly now, who go along with this. And, most of all, we need to Impeach Obama for not upholding his vow to the Constitution..

I fear we are already too late on the personal property confiscation. Without proof the gov’t can take property for tax liens even if the debt is unproven. When straightened out, their answer is “Oh, well, we sold it at auction. Too bad for you.”
