Dr. Benjamin Carson (Photo Credit: ABC’s “This Week”)
Dr. Benjamin Carson continues to appear in media to discuss his memorable National Prayer Breakfast speech. On Sunday, the neurosurgeon went on ABC’s “This Week,” where he, again, expressed surprise at the reaction he’s received thus far. Of particular note, Carson, 61, responded to ongoing questions surrounding whether he’ll inevitably seek elected office.
As we’ve noted, some have questioned whether Carson’s speech was predicated upon an urge to make a splash on the national stage. With such a prominent platform as the National Prayer Breakfast, political observers wondered if Carson had crafted his fascinating words in hopes of officially entering the political sphere.
But in an interview with TheBlaze last week, the famed doctor, who is the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, made it clear that he was simply sharing important views — opinions he holds dear — about America.
In speaking with Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl for his “This Week” appearance, Carson said that he didn’t see his speech as overtly political, as many have alleged. To the contrary, he noted that he was simply calling out important issues that many Americans could relate to.
“I don’t think it was particularly political,” Carson said. “You know, I’m a physician. I like to diagnose things. And, you know, I’ve diagnosed some pretty, pretty significant issues that I think a lot of people resonate with.”
With Carson telling TheBlaze that his schedule has become even more packed since the National Prayer Breakfast, one can’t help but wonder what’s coming next. This summer, he’s planning to retire from medicine. And while it’s not his intention to seek political office, he says he’s open to whatever plan God has for his life.
“That’s not my intention,” he said of political campaigning. “But I always say, ‘I’ll leave that up to God.’”
Watch Carson discuss his openness to God’s plan for his life, below:
Regardless of whether he seeks political power, Carson has repeatedly offered Americans balanced advice regarding how to interact with one another. During his “This Week” appearance he, once again, called for “intelligent conversation,” specifically when it comes to coping with complex and divisive issues.
“I mean, it’s unbelievable to me the way people act like third graders,” he said. “And if somebody doesn’t agree with them, they’re this and they’re that and, you know — it comes from both sides. And it’s just so infantile.”
During the interview, Carson also noted his disagreements with some of President Barack Obama’s policies, however he did call the nation’s leader a “very talented politician.”

Feb. 18, 2013 at 2:24pmObama’s policies or Whitey do not cause 75% of all African American babies to be born out of wedlock and to drop out of school when they became teenagers.
Whitey has a massive self-destructive behavior also. Whitey’s high divorce and shacking up rate leaves many children aborted or feeling confused and unwanted – and it usually leaves the mother in poverty. Their troubled teens often turn to violence, drug abuse and crime. Whitey can’t even control his own greed let alone the greed of Bernard L. Madoff to create a $50 billion Ponzi scheme to defraud 4800 clients.
Let us pray Dr. Carlson’s message of truth, common sense and morality will stop this wanton self-destruction and poverty of this beautiful and powerful people.

I for one hope God does nudge Dr Carson into a run for President. He knows more about running a Country than Barry Soetoro did ! We’ve started a hopeful facebook group for like minded people whom hope he does choose to run . If you care to join it’s an open group. Feb. 18, 2013 at 3:23pmYou are absolutely wrong about this. He is the very type of person we need in office. Hallowell is wrong too when he says “Regardless of whether he seeks political power…”. I don’t believe this man would seek “power”.
There are entirely too many “lawyers” in office.

Feb. 18, 2013 at 11:55amDr. Carson speaks the people’s language; he’s clear, straightforward, and understandable to the masses, which is just what we need. Assuming he is a natural born American citizen, he has the right to run, and should. If the good Lord would cause all the Dems to lose their middle fingers, their arguments against him would end right there.

Feb. 18, 2013 at 11:01amThe Left and Progressive’s are supposed to be so much more intelligent and above all the others. Yet they can’t wrap their minds around that Oby (and all Presidents) is a GUEST at the Prayer Breakfast, Oby does not host the Breakfast, nor was this one of his gala balls. Any other GUEST speaker can ‘speak’ of what ever topic they choose.
Oby was obviously inflamed while sitting there. 1) His own wife was clapping, along with most of the audience to many points of the speech. 2) This man was obviously of higer intelligence than the ‘choosen one’. 3) This man ‘got through the screening process’ and actually challenged Oby right to his face. 4) No matter how much Oby flinched and scoweld and frowned, this man wouldn’t “let up” and cave to Oby’s gestures.
Yes – You can bet your Aunt Judy’s bloomers that Oby has issued an all out media assault team to destroy this man AND his family. This is business as normal for Oby’s kind. So far this man doesn’t even flinch, and sticks to his heart and mind. I pray for him, and ask all of us to stand beside him when Oby orders the heat to be turned up.

Feb. 18, 2013 at 9:52amLet’s see if this wonderful man can stand up to the left’s barrage of insults, first. The first wave will center on him not being ‘authentic’ by the likes of Prof. Hill, Chuck Rangel, Rev. Jackson. Then the media will go into malpractice suits against him. Patients (parents of his patients as he is a pediatric neurosurgeon) will be found that cry on command, on camera about how he crippled their child. Stories will be written about how Obamacare would weed out these incompetent doctors that are ham-handed and in bed with big pharma. And that is his public life. What about him CLAIMING to be a man of God but missed church service on that Sunday in March of 1992. Says he’s a Christian but never once attended Rev. Wright’s church. Fake Christian.
If he can stand up to this, go on the Sunday programs strong and make the moderators out to be the lunatics they are ………. then he will go as far (as a right of center politician) as his heart desires.

Feb. 18, 2013 at 9:24amDr. Ben Carson has more common sense in his pinkie then Obama.
Someone in the FBI should start investigating the store-front-churches that are popping up in small towns, large cities, and all are ‘TAX FREE’ using bogus “on-line-wanna-be preachers”. They have NO CONGREGATIONS. Our small town is less then five-hundred people, There are 8 store-front churches, all pastors claiming to be ordained ministers, when they got their so called license on line, just by paying a fee! They are writing off their rent, large cars, food, etc and exempt from paying taxes. Hello! Dr. Benn understands this, so why doesn’t the FBI do something about this and welfare fraud? Why are taxpayers paying out of their gazoo’s and this is not being investigated?
Tell em, Dr. Ben Carson. It’s time whom ever is controlling Obama… things need to change all right, and not by Obama. I’ve never seen so much waste between welfare fraud and thes bogus churches!

Feb. 18, 2013 at 9:17amThis man has more sense in his little pinkie then Obama.
I’m so tired of the nonsense and lack of common sense reflected in the Obama Administration.
If “WE” don’t have money to enjoy life, and struggle to put gas in our vehicles, food on the table, we don’t go out to play golf with Tiger Woods, nor do we rack up expensive fuel bills filling up Air Force One, and Two (for Michelle). We stay at home, work, and find ways to help American’s.
I think Obama needs to be spanked, and scolded. He’s nothing more then a spoiled child. He wants he way, or everyone else takes the “highway”. He’s just as bad as the welfare users in this country, who are scamming the US. Government. If the FBI started looking into these store-front, bogus churches (who are not having to pay taxes on their vehicles, or other belongings, the country would be better off. There are eight of these so-called churches in our little town of less then 500 people. There aren’t enough people to go to the numerous black churches. They have gone on-line, received some type of bogus seminary license and claim to be a pastor! I’ve never seen such scamming in my entire life. Multiply this problem by 100% in larger cities. If you want to become extremely wealthy, open a bogus church in some storefront in your town. Purchase an expensive car, set it out front, and you’re in business! Remember it’s all TAX FREE!

Feb. 18, 2013 at 8:59amOk, Dr. Benjamin Carson, I made it a point to tape the Hannity show on Foxnews.com, last evening to hear your position! You speak my language, with a straight face; you make sense, so bring it on!
Point is, though, for you or any other that is not on the Dem ticket, you have got to help make a MAJOR change in the voting requirements. As I have pointed out to Rand Paul, and Paul Ryan, you have got to make a change in the qualifications to vote. In order to get sensible voting, we must change the age requirement to Age 25, maybe 30. Why? As you know, the last two Federal elections were won by the Dems for POTUS, due to the immature thinking of those under age 30, and those receiving Freebies from the Fed.
So, what can we do? Raise the voting age to age 30, and require that one to vote in the Federal Election must have paid federal income tax in the previous year! This would eleminate those whose immaturity is dwindling in time caused by liberal teachings of college professors, worthless parents, and the liberals who are hell-bent on destroying this Great Country. Exception in the age requirement, would be one who has served two years of honorable military service. Exception to having paid income tax in the previous year would be those who have retired on social security, or another form of retirement, like 401k!

Feb. 18, 2013 at 9:19amI’m of the opinion that you should have NO conflict of interest in order to vote. That fixes almost everything. Next is verifiable voter ID’s. That completes the fix.
Verifiable ID’s would go far to eliminate voter fraud. The “Conflict of Interest” clause would prevent those on the dole, from voting to keep your money going into their pockets via conduits for legalized theft – Politicians.

Feb. 18, 2013 at 8:54amIt’s so sad that conservatives are so desperate for a leader that as soon as someone gives a good speech, people call for him to be our next president. Dr. Carson might make a great president, maybe not, but we don’t even know if he’s electable. A presidential run means that we have to dig into his entire background, looking for all the skeletons that can be unearthed. And I don’t think Dr. Carson had that in mind when he made that speech, nor would he appreciate it.
