You’ll Never Believe How Much Internships Pay at These Companies

Though they’re great for networking opportunities, internships are usually pretty awful because they’re usually unpaid.

But, you know, not all internships are unpaid. In fact, some pay remarkably well.

“Interns at the 25 best-paying companies earn an average monthly wage of between $4,604 and $6,704,” Bloomberg reports, citing data from jobs site Glassdoor.com. “For context, the average U.S. household pulls in about $4,400 monthly, based on U.S. Census Bureau data.”

What’s driving these companies to compensate their interns so well?

“In tech and finance, the war for talent continues to be fierce, and it’s not so surprising that the war for talent is fierce at the intern level,” said Scott Dobroski, a spokesman for Glassdoor. “Why not tap the best young minds right out of the gate?”

Indeed, considering the type of cash involved in tech innovations, it’s not surprising to see top firms invest so heavily in snatching up young talent.

Here are the 10 best paying internships, according to Bloomberg and Glassdoor [dollar amounts per month]:

[Bloomberg Note: “The figures are based on 13,500 intern reviews of 6,600 companies between January 2011 and January 2013. Reviews can be submitted by anyone who works as an intern at the company, from college students to grad school graduates and professionals making a career change. Only companies with 10 or more intern salary reports from that period were included. The average monthly base pay among surveyed interns was $4,200."]

Those figures are still way less than most federal employees, Congressional Interns, and teachers union administrators. The superintendent of San Diego County Schools makes more than the President of the united states. $325,000 per year. There are six people at our local grade school making more than $200,000 a year with additional perks. There are thousands of teachers in California making more than $100,000 per year. The big difference here is that when you intern for a company the TAX PAYER does not foot the bill!

It’s good to reward education will high salaries. Some of the comments from the typical blazer show why they will never make any kind of serious wage, but that should not detract from people that work very hard at receiving a higher education. Also, many of the companies have offices in major metropolitan areas where those salaries keep you just out of poverty and nowhere near being wealthy.

      My Resume,

I am a Soldier serving in the Military (have a few years till I retire), my body is not what it used to be, but I dont let that slow me down. I broke my back, have many scars (some visable some not) My knees ache, my feet ache, my shouders ache, but they only serve as a reminder that I am still alive.

I own many guns can shoot all of them very well. I am skilled at stalking, and tracking game. I can Process prity much any form of Livestock from cow, pig, chicken. I can field dress any wild game and process it for the table. I Love the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

I have only found two things in life worth fearing the wrath of a good woman and the wrath of God.I have never read the bible from cover to cover but I have read the bible completely, and try to live by gods word. ( I am man and I have fallen short of the grace of God a time or two in my life)

I have put in many 24 hour days. I have never shyed away from work when the work needs being done. I have been putting food on the table by the sweat of my brow sense I was 12 years old.

The Adobe “Would you like another update” is too true. DO NOT TAKE THEIR OFFER. Doing so killed my Acrobat program. I spent over an hour troubleshooting and restoring Acrobat. I was one of the lucky ones. Most of the blogs’ “how to fix” comments told how their computers had crashed, repeatedly.
So, yeah, I laughed at #7′s cheeky jab. But I’m betting those who recently updated and are stuck without the use of their Acrobat program aren’t tickled.

Well that explains why ebay’s seller fees are so high.

Plus they pretty much force everyone to use PayPal (owned by ebay) and get you again with those fees!

Elitist thinkers will prefer their own kind. In the new world order traditional and conservative values are shunned, so progressives will get most of these jobs.

Good luck trying to get one of those, unless you are squeeky clean, under 25, and are getting your government funded university education?

But wait there’s more? Not only will you never get to work for one of these companies, you will never be able to start a business because of all the government regulations, so the best you do right now, is hope for change?

All these intern jobs probably require that you have a Twitter and Facebook account that worships President Obama in a way that makes the company look good? Here are the 4 tweets to a rock star income?

    1. I support gay marriage?

    2. Republicans are evil?

    3. What can I do to reduce my carbon footprint?

    4. I was so excited, I voted twice and did not get caught?

8 of those 10 are tech companies. What government regulations are stopping you from starting an online business or software company? Agree that it’s not so simple to start an oil company though.

This is just good business. It’s alot cheaper and safer to get top talent for a high paid internship and be able to cut them loose if they can’t contribute. No benifits, no severance, just thank you and see ya later. As a capitalist I am not sure what all of the noise is about on this one especially from the contributors to this site. High pay for high performance. Sounds good to me.

I’m not so sure that’s true all over the country. AND those companies are ‘the best, of the best, of the best SIR!’ on pay for tech people.

Going forward, if you want your kids to eat regularly all their lives, tell them the OPPOSITE of what our parents told us. Go to trade school, NOT college. Better still, join the military, sock that school money away and then go to trade school, combine that with your military training.

Right now, the mechanics, welders, electricians etc, have an average age over 40, and there are damned few people in school to fill those types of jobs in the future. Auto mechanics average age right now is over 50. Beyond that, little Johnny and little Janey can get those jobs after only two years of training and trades fields won’t fill up in their life times AND it won’t cost a couple $100K to go to work.

The ironic part of this is that I started in trades, moved to tech in the military, and if I was still able to work, I’d go back to trades. That’s where the i$, i$, i$.
