Mother Outraged After 4th Grader Brings Home ‘Adult-Themed’ Homework About Infidelity

4th Grader at Playa Del Rey Elementary School in Arizona Gets Homework Assignment About Infidelity

(Photo: ABC15)

A 4th grade student at the Playa Del Rey Elementary School in Arizona said she was “a little shocked” when she opened up her homework assignment last week.  Not quite the reading material the 10-year-old was probably used to, the worksheet asked her to explain what was happening in a situation where a woman finds another woman’s hair clip under the bed.

“It was shocking that [they] would actually put that on a 4th grader’s homework,” Kyera McCloskey told ABC 15 with precocious maturity.  “I kinda had my mom help me with the answer a little bit, because I didn’t want to go too deep into what the question was trying to ask me…”

In the end, she wrote: “The husband had cheated, and he was in big trouble.”

When Kyera’s mother Heather Nicks informed the school district, she was told the teacher hadn’t written the assignment, and merely skimmed it before passing it out.  The teacher immediately apologized to all the parents in the class, and the school denounced the assignment.

But Nicks still wasn’t pleased.

“If my kid turned in an assignment and they skimmed it, they’d get in trouble for it, they’d get a bad grade,” she said.  “That’s not a subject matter that the school needs to bring up to my child.”

Here’s the ABC 15 report:

But TheBlaze was left wondering — if the teacher didn’t write it, who did?  What curriculum is this school using?

A school representative informed TheBlaze over the phone that the assignment was not part of the school curriculum, which the board approves, but was part of an online curriculum that the teacher had used in the past with “great success.”

The teacher had utilized all the board-approved materials to teach inferences and, as she is allowed to do, sought additional outside material.

“She downloaded a worksheet, but unfortunately she read the first two scenarios but did not read the last two,” the Playa Del Rey Elementary School representative told us.

The assignment has since been removed from the website, she said, but declined to provide the name of the site.

“This is not condoned in any way,” she concluded, noting that the school has repeatedly apologized.  “We’d like to be done with it and move on.”

And yet this moral sewage is spewed at the public in a nonstop flow through “soap operas”, and “sitcoms” and films. I’m curious about the moral outrage when infidelity is presented in a homework assignment, and yet NOT A PEEP of complaint from American familes when it is packaged in an “entertainment” format?

And I’ll best very few people even bothered to find the time from their precious busy schedules to call or write this school speaking out about this and how these mistakes should never happen again. The progressives and anti-family types continue to beat the crap out of any sensible conservatives because conservatives are too damn lazy to do anything about it.

My 3 grade child brought home a geography paper asking the question which South American country borders Mexico…The teacher was so surprised when I responded to the homework assignment question saying that none of them did…they had completely left out the Central American nations. On top of that, I was the only parent in the entire school that caught the mistake.

Who the heck writes this stuff and who approves it???

Theo, I agree. Networks, culture, decline of religion and moral relativism has been dragging our culture into the abyss for the last 30 years. It is now cool to be a moral reprobate that is inconsiderate, rude and self centered.

These low-info ‘educators’ are using zero tolerance policies to expel 5 year olds for normal behavior (playing war with imaginary grenades). We should adopt a similar zero tolerance stance. Fire the teacher and her superiors. Give them a little of their own medicine.

Online curriculum? Online curriculum is Common Core. If you don’t know what Common Core is, you need to educate yourself. It’s the final nail in the coffin for dumbing down our kids. It’s not about learning, it’s about social justice. O and Arnie Duncan think it’s great and the “way forward”, that alone should tell you it’s crap.

The mom can make the district provide her FREE of charge, the curriculum her child will be learning until she graduates from this elementary school. She has that right as a parent!!!!!!!!!!! Then she can pick and choose what she wants her child exposed to! She has the final word.

      Posted on February 19, 2013 at 10:50pm

I am not making this up. Last year, my daughter’s 7th grade literature assignment called for her to write the eulogy of a friend that she had KILLED. I was so shocked. My oldest child had gotten into some trouble years before over a story she had written that had the word “kill” in it. She was suspended for three days and had to go before the board to determine if she would actually be expelled. Up unto that point, she wanted to be author someday. She stopped writing completely after that. Since graduating high school last year, she has enlisted into the Army.

@theo…while I agree with you about our “entertainment”, some parents don’t allow their children to watch the shows/channels with all the garbage. When the teacher hands this out as homework, we have no chance to shield our children from that. My kid grew up when “Friends” was on and when she was in fourth grade, all of her peers were watching this. But we, as her parents, decided that, though very funny, it wasn’t appropriate viewing for her age group. Then she came home with her middle school yearbook, which had references to the show and the kids had even picked that as their favorite tv show that year. We had to explain to her what the references meant. So, when you get hit with stuff like this from the place you least expect it, it throws you off-guard.

6 figures paid to teachers with Masters Degrees, who basically read the menu of educational directives available to them to students and they are “counselors”?

You could ask the employee at Taco Bell, what’s on the menu, and he gets paid mimimum wage? Go figure?

40% of children don’th have fathers, and what percentage of teacher union pensions went unfunded until the Stimulous package was passed? Do you really need a college degree to figure out the disparity between culture, education, and what they are pushing between peer pressure, media, and educational systems?

Remember the Alamo? Remember the Wah Wah?

After decades of all these college graduates, why are we not seeing more home schooling? Why not tax breaks for home schooling and taking the burden off government employee pensions we can’t afford anyway?

No such grace is given to students who make finger guns, draw pictures of guns or even hold a make believe gun. They are expelled….same should go for the teacher, zero tolerance for stupidity, for innocent mistakes, for not thinking something through. Expelled, no pay….and really, she should be gone.
