Proposed Bill Would Force Gun Owners in NY to Buy At Least $1 MILLION in Liability Insurance or Forfeit ‘Privilege’ to Own a Firearm

Anti Gun Bill Introduced in NY Would Force Gun Owners to Purchase At Least $1 MILLION in Liability Insurance

The anti-gun bills continue to roll in. The latest bill, introduced in the New York State Assembly by Democrat Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, seeks to force all gun owners to purchase at least $1 million in liability insurance to cover any damages caused by firearms. It would be a mandatory requirement for anyone who owns a gun, as those who refuse to comply within 30 days would have their firearms confiscated.

“Any person in this state who shall own a firearm shall, prior to such ownership, obtain and continuously maintain a policy of liability insurance in an amount not less than one million dollars specifically covering any damages resulting from any negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person,” the bill, AO3908, states.

“Failure to maintain such insurance shall result in the immediate revocation of such owner’s registration, license and any other privilege to own such firearm,” the bill adds.

Further, even if a New Yorker’s gun is stolen, they are still responsible for any damage incurred until a loss or theft is reported to the police. The bill has been reportedly been passed along to the Assembly’s Insurance Committee, according to the Washington Times.

The Examiner estimates that simple liability insurance for $1 million would cost gun owners about $1,600-2,000 annually.
Lawmakers in California, Maryland and Massachusetts have introduced similar bills aimed at forcing gun owners to purchase liability insurance.

The bill comes after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the toughest gun laws in the nation, enacting a ban on semi-automatic rifles and limiting magazine capacity to seven. It appears that New York lawmakers still aren’t satisfied.

And so the anti-gun agenda to undermine the second amendment continues across the nation; Obama will have massive and all-encompassing gun-seizures and gun-control at the state level and then declare it via executive order and regulation under the Obama-care (bullet induced lead poisoning) laws, and the tyranny will be complete.

Our only real course of action left that makes any sense at all in the face of what is coming is to secede. It saddens me to say such a thing. I’ve spent some considerable time away from this board contemplating what should be done (in the wake of recent events and how they are being ruthlessly, shamelessly exploited by the leftists)……we have no other choice IMHO..it’s time to secede.

You know, Snow, I’ve been wondering about the administration’s concentration on the AR 15 above other weapons. It is, after all, the weapon that, arguably, kills the least people in your country.

It occurs to me that it is the best weapon in public hands to defend against an attack by government forces.

Is that too far-fetched? It probably is, but still…

Having just now given this some thought, consider this:

Many think that the American Revolution was sparked by the “Boston tea party”, but that is actually not the case.

In 1775 a small British contingent arrived at Concord, Massachusetts with the intention of disarming the civilians there. Some 70 Americans – private citizens – stood defiantly against 700 to 800 British soldiers, refusing to be disarmed. It was a standoff.

Then somebody – nobody knows who – fired “the shot heard around the world”, and so began that savage conflict.

Americans had not rebelled because of the many new taxes imposed. Not the “Sugar Act”, or the “Stamp Act”. or even the “Quartering Act” (requiring colonists to house and feed British troops), These were all grudgingly accepted, but the British wanted to be sure that their troops could control the colony if rebellion occurred.

When the British came for the American’s guns, they lit the fuse to the powderkeg that eventually blew them out of the continent.

Does one not think that Mr Obama and his fellow travellers should study the history books before embarking on an enterprise fraught with unforseen consequences?

Do they care that they might spark a second revolution, proving that the tree of liberty must indeed inevitably be watered?

Or do they simply not care about the nation that they lead, beyond it being a vehicle for their ideological experimentation.

I think this insurance idea is great.

Lets take it a step further and hold the NY government to a higher standard than the taxpayers. All the legislators and the NY govenor have to buy and maintain a millionin dollar insurance policy on EACH firearm owned by every policing agency in NY, from every towConstablelesheriffif, trooper aninvestigativeve agency within the state. They should also purchase insurance for EACH firearm for each and every agent from another state. They must alspurchasece the insurance on EACH firearm in or brought in the state that is owned by the US military or policing officer.

The Govonor and every legislator will be held criminally liable if for any reason a citizen of NY or any other state is killed or injured with any one of these firearms.

THIS is an example of how he will take your guns. “You can own a gun, but the taxes (insurance in the this case) will make so prohibitve to own one, you can’t afford to.” There are too many laws that we have allowed this country to have, in the name of security, that we’ve already set in motion to kill the old USA and enable the new USSA.

I find it amazing that you, half way around the planet, know more than 99% of my fellow citizens about the history of this nation. That story you mentioned about the “shot heard around the world” has been lost or intentionally ignored here. We no longer teach it to our children. Instead our kids are taught about the cherry tree and wooden teeth, myths meant to diminish the man and what he fought for. We are taught that Jefferson fathered children by a slave woman, a tale debunked by the geneticist who performed the DNA investigation into the charge, a myth also intended to defame and diminish not only the man but his writings and accomplishments. Or–we are told the colonists betrayed their fealty to a legitimate King over money and greed, (think Tea), rather than what was actually motivating them. Freedom from oppression! When they passed the Bill of Rights, a single bill listing fundamental freedoms springing from Natural Law, they didn’t rank them 1 through 10, they were passed by one vote and were understood to all be equal in importance. Franklin was prophetic when he said in response to a question at the end of the Constitutional Convention, that we have “A republic, if you can keep it.” We are rapidly approaching the point where it will slip through our fingers. May God have mercy on us when that happens.

      @ Soulfire

I’m sorry to tell you this but the DICK ACT of 1902 does not forbid gun control – or, in fact, any of the other things that is suggested.

When I’m digging into something I generally take it as an alarm bell when all of the articles on a certain subject use exactly the same language, and this is the case here. The Act has been completely misinterpreted by the original writer of the article.

Whether this was done deliberately or not, I don’t know. Consider that a deliberate misinterpretation may have been planted to distract and confuse objectors and end up making them look foolish – should they have used this in a public debate.

Even if the interpretation was accurate, the 2nd Amendment would be superior to it.

At the end of the day there are three things that can be brought to bear against the insidious contrivances of the current administration: The US Constitution, legal precedent, and the prerogative of a free people resolutely applied.

      Infringe (verb):

Definition 1. disobey or disregard something

(transitive verb) to fail to obey a law or regulation or observe the terms of an agreement

Definition 2. encroach on somebody’s right or property

(transitive and intransitive verb) to take over land, rights, privileges, or activities that belong to somebody else, especially in a minor or gradual way

Now someone go ahead and explain how this legislative action doesn’t do that to the second amendment.

A textbook example of why gun registration is a bad idea. As soon as they have a list of registered gun owners, the harassment begins, with the goal of forcing guns out of the people’s hands. Attempts at gun registration, and bills like this one, have to be stopped. Failing that, noncompliance and going on the offensive, as the gun manufacturers who no longer sell to the governments of NY and other gun-grabbing states have done.

Good point. But: When guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have guns. When guns are legislated out of legal hands by the Government and the Insurance Companies by State Insurance Regulations, then only those who are in violation of the regulation and insurance regulations will have guns, and they will be outlaws.

So….how will you control guns when all the guns are in the hands of criminals (outlaws), because only the criminals (outlaws) will have guns. Hmm?

As for me, I will be an outlaw. It’s better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. You figure it out…..

All free people left in America (aka Gun owners) need to forget about the idea of being law abiding. The law is and has abandoned the morally upright citizens of the formerly United States. These “law makers” need to be punished for their attacks on freedom. They need to be brought to heel. Any law enforcement officers federal or state better quickly decide what their jobs really are, and who’s side they will fight for. A few have stood up and made their views known, but the rest need to be made to publicly choose.

i wonder when the brilliant people that wrote this new improvement will remember they forgot to tell all the police about this,, as many officers have there own personal weapons at home other then service weapons. can the officers really afford that?? retired police officers, can they afford that??? what about military personnel?? body guards?? SEIU members?? when will the list of exemptions come out?? and how much to get on that list???

something else no-one has noted yet, or i havent seen yet is this. the supreme court has ruled that all laws even unconstitutional are still laws that have to be followed. one can only sue after they have suffered a loss, a lawsuit cannot be awarded until there is a loss, not a perceived loss. so while this would prolly be overturned in a court of law, in the mean time they have gotten rid of the firearms, and you cant bring them back into state as of there new laws, so you and everyone else would still be without there firearms, and only getting a few bucks on there true value. confiscation at its best.
on another note, how many people can afford that if they have more then 1 firearm, and what insurence agency is NY politicians in bed with ??????????????????????

All these proposed un-Constitutional laws are no coincidence. My guess is Dr. Jim Garrow is right, Obama got his marching orders from the Chinese, who want the American people disarmed so that when they come and take our assets (since we can’t pay our debt to them), they won’t have resistance from the American public.

And these traitor politicians who are proposing these anti-American laws are just showboating to show their new masters, the Chinese, that they are good lackeys.

Or it could be Obama wants all his political allies to enact a full court press to goad the American public into a civil war so he can enact Martial law.

Whatever it is, one thing is clear: they are coming for your guns America.

Obama is a world government guy. His marching orders come from the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (previously known as the Small Arms Treaty) which requires member nations to produce a small arms registry.

Whatever the reasons I think you are correct about eliminating the threat the 2nd poses to those in DC (and around the world). America must be disarmed if Agenda 21 has any real chance of success. I do think the time has come and gone for working things out between left and right…there can be no compromise with a left wing that will allow both the 1st and 2nd amendemnts to be radically altered for the so called sake of the rest, under the (egregiously distorted, patenetly false ) guise of good intentions.

So if you shot someone you will get away with it” My response to that was “ I have unregistered hammers if I kill someone with them does that mean I will get away with it”?

The New York legislature and governor have proven time and again that they are unfit to represent the will of the people. Should this law go through it must be immediately challenged in the courts. As soon as it is ruled to be unconstitutional impeachment recall elections and impeachment proceeding need to be underway.

The only way these people can remain is if they remain by the consent of the governed and by the following the Constitution. There are no man-made authorities beyond those that can allow them to keep their jobs. Should they ignore those authorities things will get very messy and much less amicable to their imagined authority.

This plan to force legal firearm owning citizens to buy firearm insurance will be nothing less than a De facto gun registration scheme. You buy the insurance and the state Insurance commissioner has your name on a registry of firearm owners that will later be used for mandatory firearm confiscation. Do NOT fall for this one folks!

There is an answer and a solution for this: TERM LIMITS and make it illegal for LAWYERS and DOCTORS to serve as Representatives or Senators.

We are NOT a Government “of the People” but a Government of snotty lawyers and doctors!

Once again a further move to make it impossible for low income, and soon middle class, to be able to defend themselves and become subjects to the state – If you can’t pay, you can’t play. Keep as many as possible on welfare and maintain a upper class that have or can pay to have higher privledges and thus “rights”. We need some lawyers out there willing to sue the state for disenfranchising the poor from the 2nd amendment. The cost of the safety courses, the permit fees, and driving up the cost of firearms through false shortages induced by state policies, and now required insurance fees – soon only the rich will have protection.

There are no insurability requirements in the 2nd Amendment, this is an illegal proposition as it would infringe on the rights of people to bear arms.

These domestic enemies of the US Constitution should be defeated with their own legal systems. Who in their right mind would want citizens to walk around without protection? Should we demand UN observers to begin collecting evidence against these human right abuses, to prosecute them for war crimes against humanity, because owning a firearm is a human right?

Or do citizens need to just need to fight the legal system with support from outside organizations? They pass these laws thinking that individual citizens will not fight back? Being financially indigent is not a crime.

The left and NY State have taken this too far, way way too far. These bills and what Cuomo has proposed are clear violations of the 2nd. This madness if allowed to continue will tear this nation apart in very short order. This assault by the left on the 2nd is a fundamental cornerstone of this nation, the other being the 1st…tell me at what point do we stand up and say enough is enough and threaten to disolve this (now unrecognizable) damned Union if such violations are allowed to progress into law ?

Obama and The Left are grooming us, trying to see how far they can push us. They will take a mile for every inch they gain. Obama “grooms” us, the American people, constantly, to see how far he can go. He did it at La Raza, telling them, “Well, I can’t just order that Illegals can become legal, all by myself” and then he got this sneaky look on his face, paused for a minute, and waited….sure enough, he got what he expected, the crowd beginning to buzz with “Yes you can”, softly at first, then becoming louder and more insistent, “Yes you can! Yes you can! YES YOU CAN! YES YOU CAN!”. Finally, the camera gets a close-shot of his face……and his facial expression clearly shows how much he loves being adored. He just eats it up. Pure evil on display.
