Texas Gun Shop Owner Easily Refutes Biden’s Claim That an AR-15 Is Harder to Aim, Use Than a ’12-Gauge Shotgun’

PHILADELPHIA, PA – FEBRUARY 11: U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden delivers remarks following a roundtable discussion with law enforcement officials to discuss gun safety on February 11, 2013 at Girard College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. President Barack Obama’s administration is pushing for new gun control measures in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Credit: Getty Images
Vice President Joe Biden dismissed the concerns of a pro-gun woman during an online Town Hall event and told her she doesn’t “need an AR-15.”
After writing that she was worried about her family’s security and gun control legislation, Biden encouraged the woman to buy a 12-gauge shotgun because she doesn’t need a semi-automatic rifle to protect herself.
Biden also told the woman that she could scare off an intruder by firing two shots from a 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun. He said the AR-15 is harder to “aim” and use.
Jesse Bonner, owner of Jesse’s Gun Shop in Corsicana, Texas, smacked down Biden’s claim. He told TheBlaze that “our vice president is inaccurate.”
“That would not be true,” he said. “I’ve taught enough ladies to shoot all different types of firearms and I can tell you that the AR-15 is going to be better suited for a lady. It would be better for all-around home defense and it’s one of the most accurate guns out there.”
“The AR-15 is now a mainstream weapon because of its quality design and accuracy,” he added, saying that a shotgun, especially a 12-gauge, can be difficult to use for many people. Smaller women could have even more trouble firing a 12-gauge shotgun due to the recoil.
Bonner explained that even younger kids are able to use an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle with ease.
Being in the firearms business for 21 years, Bonner told TheBlaze that there has been a coordinated effort to blur the line between semi-automatic rifles, like the AR-15, and fully automatic weapons.
“It’s been happening through the purposeful blurring and slandering, whether to help legislation pass or to help a new company make money by selling advertising by sensationalizing,” he said.

I swear by the.308 AR, which has twice the stopping power of the .223.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 8:18pmWith the right load, the shotgun is safer than a .223 round but will be harder to fire in tight quarters unless it’s short barrelled.
I love my 870 Express, but the women I’ve let fire 00 buck out of it almost always end up dropping it or on their tush, even with proper brace training. It’s a lot of kick to handle. Trap with target loads work nicely with them (and me) though.
I’d never use a double barrelled shotgun for home defense unless it’s all I had. You have two rounds and in stress under several intruders, you would likely never get in two more.
What Biden should’ve said is that there’s nothing that will clear out the riff-raff faster than the SOUND of a Shotgun being racked…

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 9:33pmSilver, I’m with you on being all about shotguns. There is no greater close quarters self defense weapon. Problem is most sporting shotguns are too long and 12 gauge 00 buck knocks small women on their butts. The 20 gauge Remington 870 youth model is an excellent home defense tool. The barrel and stock are both shortened which makes them very suitable for maneuvering in close quarters and the 20 gauge is easier on the shoulder. Furthermore firing 20 ga buckshot across a 15′ room or down a 20′ hallway will knock the dog poop out of anyone stupid enough to be in the way.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 10:01pmSendthemeteors, you obviously know little about firearms so allow me to enlighten you. The best defense weapon depends on your particular situation, there is no single correct answer! For lower middle class suburbia in a 1300 square foot home I would say the shotgun is a pretty good choice considering no room or hallway in the house will be over 25′. Now if a person happens to be fortunate enough to own a large house with wide areas and long corridors, or lives on acreage, or has multiple structures to defend then a rifle is more suitable. Now don get all hung up an the “assault rifle” thing, its just noise to distract. All firearms do exactly the same thing; use expanding gas to push a projectile down a pipe. Sorry if you don’t like the way it looks or is labeled.

There you staffers go again talkin bout stuff you don.t know.
A hand gun cannot be an effective weapon. A shotgun tends to hit a lot of stuff and people you don’t want.
As a person who actually has used a weapon in self defense I can tell you neither are effective. A Winchester is invaluable and 20 rounds in a mini thirty is superior. Even the two federal agents assigned for protection didn’t see that coming. Oh thats right, they were sleeping. Echo terrorist are not nice folks.

For close quarters I’d rather use my handgun with 17 rounds. As far as Sendinthemeatheads anti-AR sentiments, if an AR is such a bad idea for close quarters, why allow our troops to use them when they go door to door and inside homes? Wasn’t bin laden cut down with one? From now on, keep out of the gun discussions. You make a big enough fool of yourself already on other topics.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 12:00amWhy is the blaze making an article about a comment from some random guy? Might as well start taking people posting in the comments here and turning them into articles. Plus, this guy isn’t even right. It is easier to hit someone with a shotgun…it’s a shotgun you can not even be pointed someone and still hit them. Sure, it’s not as pinpoint…but that’s not the same thing. That’s not to say I agree with Biden though. A shotgun only works if you’re protecting yourself against one or two people…maybe even a small group…but what if there are riots in the street? Mobs searching homes? Armed militants blowing up neighborhoods? A shotgun won’t do you much good if a group is really after you. Sure that doesn’t happen often but neither does burglary…we have a right to protect ourselves no matter how limited the chance of an incident.
And my goodness…Biden just told people to shoot out into the night…that’s the most reckless thing someone can do. What if it’s just a couple of cats going at it? A kid coming home late? A drunk neighbor going to the wrong door? Or you just happen to be pointed towards the neighbors house. Biden is such an idiot.

Tutorial; 5 yards or less empty the magazine of your favorite handgun into the intruder, then call 911 for a “wet cleanup in the doorway”. In the hallway, against a true home invasion of 3 or more intruders let fly with all 5 in your pump shotee. But short or long two well placed rounds from a semi-auto rifle, will definitely bring peace to the neighborhood. Me, I’m prepared for all scenarios. Let me answer your question clearly:
Yes, a semi-automatic carbine is an excellent defense weapon.
Now, let me answer your spoken/unspoken criticism of the choice:
If you need 1 all around weapon that can handle any range engagement, any normal target from person to vehicle, and any situation, your best choice is a semi-automatic carbine with a medium load. Those weapons family’s are AR-15′s, SKS & AK-47′s, Mini-14′s, etc. There is a reason why the military uses fully automatic versions of these weapons, that reason is versatility.
There should be no reason responsible civilian’s cannot have access to them other than fear of firearms by others. That’s all gun control is, a public statement of fear by those proposing it. There is no logic that permits it to exist without fear driving it.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 12:57pmI notice that nobody has picked up on one very salient fact, which is that by advoacating shotguns Biden is inadvertently telling us that the left doesn’t really want to ban rifles to save lives, but to prevent having a properly-armed populace that can adequately defend themselves against the domineering Gestapo agenda.
Why? Because if mass shooters in any incident to date had used doube-barrel shotguns instead of other weapons the results would be total devastation, since a shot gun would be like firing an M16 on fully automatic. At close range……just two shells…… would be like firing about forty bullets at the intended targets. The kill ratio would be phenomenol.
His advocating shotguns but banning AR-15′s tells us explicitly that it is NOT the lethality of a weapon he opposes, but having armed citizens with weapons that can shoot much farther than shotguns, because it poses a threat to government controlled Gestapos.
These liars and crooks want our guns, and the community organizer has an additional reason to ban rifles: The vast majority of them are in the hands of conservative Americans.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 5:31pmI think this may be one of Ol’ Uncle Joe’s smarter remarks. Don’t get me wrong, use whatever you want for self defense, but shotguns are the best for home invasion defense. 1. With the right shot, it won’t kill your children on the other side of the wall if you miss. 2. A larger spread means you are less likely to miss, especially with a shorter barrel.
I suggest shooting to kill when there’s a home invasion. Don’t waste your ammo firing warning shots (Joe). Also, don’t use a double barrel, use something with at least 6 shots.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 6:08pmHow can he even suggest that? Firing an AR-15 is like handling a beefed up pellet gun, especially when compared to a 12 gauge 3″ slug or .00 buck!
Biden is full of crap. Also, most shotguns are pump action, a lot of ladies would have problems just cycling the shells, let alone avoiding not falling over or having the gun smack themselves in the face due to the recoil because they are off balance at 4 AM when 3 men riding in van break in to rape and rob them…
An AR-15 is one of the best systems for home defense for several reasons. The way the rounds splinter upon hitting non-soft material like plywood or even drywall is another good reason. The shorter length of an AR-15 compared to a shotgun makes it more manageable in hallways and while hiding in a closet as well.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 6:06pmTo take Mr. Bonner’s observations a step further, when I was a First Sergeant in an infantry rifle company, we trained Primary Marksmanship Instruction on the M16 rifle / M4 carbine (select-fire AR-15 military variants) with our soldiers constantly.
One of the main tenets of accurate shooting is the “grouping” of the rounds, that is, where the rounds are hitting the target. To ensure that they are hitting in the same place all the time, the firer MUST hold the weapon the SAME way all the time. This allows the firer to draw the same sight picture all the time. We taught our soldiers to pull the weapon tight into the pocket of their shoulder, rest their cheek on the buttstock, and touch the tip of their nose to the charging handle of the rifle.
The M16 / M4 could be fired this way WITHOUT any fear of breaking your nose, because the construction of the weapon made for very little recoil. This little fact would indicate that this weapon would be an excellent choice for a female.
In comparison, I own a side-by-side, double barreled shotgun in 12 gauge, and even with a recoil pad on the buttstock, it WILL thump you. Using #4 buckshot so the pellets don’t go through a wall, it’s advantage is that it will clear a room with two rounds.
The Vice President should spend more time acquainting himself with the handling and firing characteristics of these weapons, and less time showing how clueless he really is.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 6:04pmWell if the Obama administration remains true to form, we’ll see a photo of Plugs surface of him firing a 12 gauge (to show he’s really truly honest about this) but aiming it all wrong..much like Obama’s “skeet shooting” buffoonery.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 6:02pmAh Joe.. We can always expect you to sound like an A**. Is there no occasion that you won’t put your foot in your mouth. A small woman…a 12ga. can be intimidating, however, a .223 is comfortable and effective. Just think…a 12ga. 00 buck has nine pellets… almost as much as one of the magazines that you’re wanting to ban. A Remington 870 can hold 5 shells, that’s 45 pellets. Holy cow.. how can you recommend this to anyone? You’re a hypocrite! But you are and always will be someone we can make fun of..

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 6:14pmI think that they removed part of Joe’s brain, after his stroke. This guy is thinking about running for President – I guess that he would fit right in with all the other brain dead Presidents that we have endured.

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 6:05pmHe’s absolutely correct. The AR-15 is easy to aim and easy to fire, unlike many shotguns that have a heavy recoil, younger people and yes, women can easily utilize an AR. That is why it is the most popular rifle in America.

I don’t know if Your_Senile is Wango, but I saw an add featuring him the other day. As I recall it went: “Wango, Wango, Wango humping nugget, nugget, nugget ….’ It was an adult themed commercial having to do with some toy horse name nugget. It had a picture of Wango with that stumped look on his face as if caught in the act up against the back side of a toy talking horse. Apparently in order to get the horse to talk the horse had to be wango’d. The add had to do with turning kids toys into fun things for leftwing adults.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 3:20pmYou know, if shotguns were truly the weapon of choice for home defense, then why do the majority of law enforcement and military choose AR15′s or a similar rifle, or some type of semi-auto pistol? The Ar15 has less recoil and is often lighter and shorter for easier handling than most shotguns. Biden knows about as much about weapons as he knows about being VP, nada/zero/zip/nothing!

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 1:53ambiden just advised people to get double barrel shotgun and just bang off a couple of rounds, what a loon, 9 to 41 pellets in buckshot and he just indiscriminately shoots a gun at who knows what. what is he thinking, oh that answers it all, he’s biden and a politician he does not think. Way to go Jesse’s Gunshop in Corsicanna, Texas for your post and the great job of supporting our rights.
