Vice President Joe Biden dismissed the concerns of a pro-gun woman during an online Town Hall event and told her she doesn’t “need an AR-15.”
After writing that she was worried about her family’s security and gun control legislation, Biden encouraged the woman to buy a 12-gauge shotgun because she doesn’t need a semi-automatic rifle to protect herself.
Biden also told the woman that she could scare off an intruder by firing two shots from a 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun. He said the AR-15 is harder to “aim” and use.
Jesse Bonner, owner of Jesse’s Gun Shop in Corsicana, Texas, smacked down Biden’s claim. He told TheBlaze that “our vice president is inaccurate.”
“That would not be true,” he said. “I’ve taught enough ladies to shoot all different types of firearms and I can tell you that the AR-15 is going to be better suited for a lady. It would be better for all-around home defense and it’s one of the most accurate guns out there.”
“The AR-15 is now a mainstream weapon because of its quality design and accuracy,” he added, saying that a shotgun, especially a 12-gauge, can be difficult to use for many people. Smaller women could have even more trouble firing a 12-gauge shotgun due to the recoil.
Bonner explained that even younger kids are able to use an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle with ease.
Being in the firearms business for 21 years, Bonner told TheBlaze that there has been a coordinated effort to blur the line between semi-automatic rifles, like the AR-15, and fully automatic weapons.
“It’s been happening through the purposeful blurring and slandering, whether to help legislation pass or to help a new company make money by selling advertising by sensationalizing,” he said.

Feb. 19, 2013 at 10:10pmSomebody ought to come up with a glass case, with a hammer on a chain, labelled “First Responder, Break Glass to Stop a Crime!”, just about the right size for an AR-15, placed within easy reach of the defender and out of reach of the miscreant it is inteded to discourage! I used to frequent a deli in New Jersey, with a big sign, right next to the posted menu, stating “Premises Protected By Smith & Wesson”! It was a VERY EFFECTIVE NOTICE to take your business elsewhere, if you didn’t come here for lunch!

Feb. 19, 2013 at 10:09pmWhat part of the “you have the right to bear arms legally purchased in the past, to own, posses, use, and purchase in the future” don’t you understand?
The government does not issue firearms, neither can it have an opinion on them. That’s the law. Once the gun makers are allowed to sell a weapon, that weapon is enshrined by the Library of Congress and the Patent Office as a legally bearable weapon – forever – that shall not be infringed.
We will not let domestic enemies of the US Constition (those unwilling to change it legally) or domestic terrorists attack the civil rights of citizens. A shot gun would not be an appropriate weapon if you have to hit a group of armed men attacking your home with home made body armor, would it?
When you have to blow somebody’s head off, you don’t want buck shot? Don’t blame me for these ideas, blame your Hollywood buddies that create the sickest, scariest story plots they can imagine, which are then largely carried out to the letter, as demonstrated recently by the armed heist of $50 million worth of uncut diamonds from an air port?
When the ATM’s stop working because you devalued the dollar, we want to use what ever we want to protect ourselves, not what makes you comfortable? Your own law enforcement agencies publish reports that bans on “assualt looking weapons” have no impact on crime?
Russia sold Brazil anti-aircraft technology licenses, which can not be ignored?

Feb. 19, 2013 at 10:02pmOur genius vice-president just advised women to go outside, cook off two rounds in a random direction, and then confront an attacker with an empty weapon.
Complete idiot.
When is he going to insist that his security detail only has double barrel shotguns?

Feb. 19, 2013 at 10:02pmI’m sorry…. This Vice President is a bit of an idiot when it comes to home defense or gun control! Take Heed people! We are imploding as a country…. And we’re doing it to ourselves! Don’t let these idiots decide what’s good for you and me ! You.. As an American Citizen, should have the right to own and use any gun to protect yourself and your family that you feel comfortable with!! The gun violence will not stop because of a knee-jerk reaction to ban assault rifles! These people are treating us like we are all stupid and can’t handle the responsibility of gun ownership…. All because of a few deranged morons who flipped their lids! We are a nation of 300 million… Every now and then, someone is going to loose it and their is nothing we can do about it! You can take away all the guns, and it’s not going to change the outcome if some one has half a brain and is motivated to hurt people. The only thing we can do is BE READY!!!!! God Bless AMERICA !!!!! YES…. I USED THE WORD “GOD”!!!!!!

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:58pmI know some people like to keep a pump-action shotgun in the house for sound effects…the unmistakable sound of noisy old 12 gauge, but that’s not the gun they are going to use to shoot you.

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:53pmO.K. Joe – you convinced me. We need gun control that removes weapons from the hands of idiots – well I’m for gun control only for you and your wife to be clear. Your advice that “if there is trouble” to just go outside and fire off two rounds from a shot gun (or any gun for that matter) without having a target identified, knowing who or what is out there, or where you shots will be going, well frankly it proves once again that you sir are a complete IDIOT. I am so glad I don’t live anywhere near your home. You obviously don’t know anything about gun ownership (responsible gun ownership anyway) or the true definition of gun control -meaning to control (careful use of) your gun. And yes – on another note as someone else already mentioned – if you are in trouble and carelessly fire both rounds from your dual shot firearm, and then expect the bad guys to run away – yep – ID-10 -T. I suppose our next combat mission you will advise the president that if attacked, we should just have our guys fire all their guns into the air until the magazines are empty – that ought to scare the bad guys away. Number 1 rule of firearms- never own a gun your not willing to shoot, never shoot a gun if you don’t intend to kill (target practice excluded). In the military I was taught “warning shots” are only for the movies, in conflict every round may be critical (especially if these idiots get their magazine limits passed.

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:53pmBiden isn’t smart enough, or experienced enough to know what he’s talking about here.
But like most of the anti-gun people who know nothing about firearms and then run their mouth, I’m 100% sure he believes what he’s saying.
.223/5.56 is a good round for home defense. It tends to fly apart on impact with hard objects, making it actually less likely to go through outer walls on most houses and into the next house than a 9mm FMJ round.
My girlfriend actually doesn’t like my 12 gauge or AR, she likes the Mini-14. But hey, she’s a darn good shot with it, so who cares?

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:49pmA 12gauge shotgun for a woman is a horrible choice, I speak from experience, maybe a 20gauge but you still have the 2 warning shots, then what? This one I was told could happen, not sure it’s accurate. Say you’re shooting down an int. hallway. Unless you are close enough to your intruder there is a possibility of the scatter from the shotgun spraying out to the side walls of the hallway, possibly hitting people sleeping in side bedrooms. Obviously, an AR-15 can have the problem as well, but I imagine the chances of a shotgun vs. an AR-15 are quite different.
I would love to know if the side walls w/shotgun is accurate. Any feedback would be great.

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:41pmI like the short barreled 12 ga with a five shot magazine using 00 shot for close in work. Sending thirty plus .32 calibre rounds down range as fast as you can work the action is a party stopper. The only downside is cleaning up the mess. 5.56 for mid range, 7.63 for longer range work and .50 calibre for when you want to reach out and touch someone. “.50 calibre. The next best thing to being there”

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:25pmAs a 60 year old woman… I own both a 12 gauge shotgun and an AR 15. I like that the 12 gauge gives a warning when it is cocked but reloading it with my lack of upper body strength is almost impossible. And the kick sends me reeling most of the time when I fire it. I may get off one shot from it ok, but multiple shots are practically impossible. The AR on the other hand is much easier to handle and I can take more shots. It is a lot smoother and easier to fire, than the 12 gauge.

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:11pmJoe Biden is the dumbest SOB God ever drew a breath in. I have a green laser on my AR. Light ‘em up twice, Very easy. And it’s a short barreled M$ version. Close quarters is no problem. Joe probably hasn’t fired a weapon in a long time, except his pie hole and his flesh rifle if it still works. The man has an IQ that matches his shoe size.

Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:06pmWell, call me crazy, but in a street fight, I prefer a 12 guage, 8 round pump shotgun loaded with 00 buck with solid slug back-up rounds to a .223 AR-15, with a .45 Long Colt revolver in a shoulder holster and a 9mm pistol with 115 grain hollowpoints in the magazine. Kinda evens out the odds, in my view. Oh…and yeah, I am trained by the way.
Know what? I bet the HS are taking notes…..Heil Obama!

Feb. 19, 2013 at 7:58pmMissing from the news is Biden today saying ALL firearms can be banned. Examples he sighted included M1 Tank…. some people do own tanks but getting the license for the cannon is tough, no one can own a F-15… many well off pilots do have old fighters… P-51, F-86, MiG 15s, 17, 19s and 21s although ordnance is tough to come by. The point is Biden is now saying NOTHING prevents the complete removal of firearms from the public. So… NOTHING prevents the government from doing anything it wants…. least we forget Lincoln stiffed the Supreme Court on habeus corpus ruling. This is no less than an announcement of intended coup against the Constitution… but then we already know that. The Dems are upping the ante daily and getting little verbal blowback. This tells them the press is on their side. Someday the Press will be shocked… truly shocked when they are turned from willing accomplices to forced accomplices … or else…. sorry… my bad…. they never will be shocked.

Feb. 19, 2013 at 7:57pmIt is obvious Bden doesn’t know his **** from his elbow ( as usual). A 5.56 or 223 AR-15 has very little recoil versus a 12 Gauge Shotgun which has a significant recoil. It is apparent that Joey once again is a moron!
