Another Reason Why It’s a Bad Idea to Break Into a Texas Home: Armed Elderly Man Kills Home Intruder

Dallas News | myFOXdfw.com

An armed elderly man in Dallas shot and killed a suspected burglar after finding him trying to break into his Dallas home this week. However, he was also forced to defend his actions after the would-be robber’s family showed up at his home.

The homeowner, a repeat burglary victim, found 33-year-old Deyfon Pipkins attempting to climb in the house through the window and fired at least one shot at the criminal, hitting his target.

Dallas police Sgt. Calvin Johnson told KDFW-TV that the homeowner is covered by the so-called “Castle Doctrine,” which provides legal protection to gun owners in Texas and other states who are forced to use deadly force against a home intruder.

“It means they don’t actually have to retreat once someone comes in their home,” Johnson said. “You have the option of using deadly force if you believe your life is in danger.”

KDFW-TV

Once police identified the suspect as Pipkins, officers notified his family. Some of those family members showed up at the house and expressed their anger at the homeowner for not issuing a “warning.”

“He could have used a warning,” Lakesha Thompson, Pipkins’ sister-in-law, said. “He could have let him know that he did have a gun on his property and he would use it in self-defense.”

The suspect reportedly had a extensive criminal record and had served time in prison. He was previously convicted of theft, possession of a controlled substance and criminal trespassing.

Police have not charged the homeowner with any crime, but Dallas police will now refer the case to the Grand Jury to determine whether he followed the law when he killed the home intruder.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

The only warning that an intruder deserves is the sound of shell going into the chamber just before the report, which the intruder might not hear.

And the old guy should get a retraining order on that whole family, for their protection.

The family members must be new to Texas. This isn’t DETROIT. You come where you don’t belong with bad intentions and there probably won’t be a WARNING. Well, I wished Deyfon had WARNED the elderly man he had planned to break into his home, then maybe the old man would have WARNED him of the consequences. The dumbest thieves and home invaders in the world live in TEXAS.The Castle Doctrine will stand in this case. God Bless this elderly gentleman.

One shot one kill… What if the robber had a gun too the warning chould have let him get his gun out and shoot the owner of the house. But the fact is he was a crimnal that was in the prosesses of breaking into the mans house. The robber took at chance and he lost BIG TIME.

I remember when I use to pick up slips of paper in my store that said, “Steal if you can, buy it if you have to.” I worked in what was called the “shotgun district.” They came in with trench coats on even in the summer, wearing a sawed-off-shotgun. You could see the shell sticking out past the end of the barrow. Been robbed at gun point 3 times, knifed once and assaulted three time. Ended up with one eye and too many scars. People just get tired of; its not my fault, you should not kill me just because I failed in my attempt to kill you. When the “leadership”? in this country stop the hate and race-baiting game just maybe things will get better. Until then when they come to kill or injure they no longer have any rights.

This is TEXAS. It is implied that a home owner has a gun and will use it. Not knowing if a home owner has a gun or not is to deter crime. Much better deterrent than wondering if the police will happen by while you commit your crime.

Ah, the armed Texas home, one of the few places that Texans won’t be arrested and prosecuted for open carrying a firearm. :)

I was open carrying my Ruger Blackhawk chambered in .45 Colt, unlicensed, down the streets of Columbus Ohio quite recently, reflecting on how much it must suck to be so restricted in one’s freedom to bear arms, such as they are in Texas. Why, they even have to worry about “printing” when concealed carrying. But hey, at least on their own property, they don’t have to worry about being arrested if somebody sees them carrying a sidearm peacefully. ;)

It’s kind of funny that Beck considers that the epitome of liberty. But then he’s only lived in commie hell holes most of his adult life, so I guess he doesn’t know better. Heh.

It is good that this intruder was shot though, three cheers for that!

      Did Defon warn the homeowner?
Let me tell you something right now. The Blacks in this country have been fed so much racial anger food for the last 50 years that they actually believe the crap we are reading in this story.
I had breakfast with two co-workers 25 years ago. One was Black and one was Puerto Rican. They brought up a story in the paper that day about a man (White) who fatally shot an intruder who had gotten into his home. The intruder was, naturally, Black and they, naturally, took the side of the minority intruder.
I let them both have it about the fact that the color of the intruder was why they were upset, and that if it was a White breaking into a Black home that they wouldn’t say a thing. I’m fed up with the Blacks who believe racist hatred is justified!
I don’t even know if the shooter was White or Black, and it doesn’t matter to me. The homeowner was completely justified.

I won’t make the mistake of blaming the victim. When someone is crawling in your window, obviously they are up to no good. This elderly man didn’t know if he had a gun or knife or other weapon, therefore he felt that his life was in danger, and the burglar was probably much younger and stronger. I would have done the same thing. Other would-be thieves or killers had better take a lesson from this.

“Another Reason Why It’s a Bad Idea to Break Into a Texas Home: Armed Elderly Man Kills Home Intruder”

      AMERICA: Show me the race.

      AMERICA: SHOW ME THE RACE!

Could you guess, even though TheBlaze didn’t show a picture? (Again? What’s with that?) Yep, when TheBlaze gets skittish, you know it’s another (big hulkin’, this time) níggá.

“Pipkins mother, Catherine, said she had been called to the scene by her daughter-in-law and said the crime sounded like something her son would do. ‘Yeah, it’s something he would do’ ”

And are we talkin’ “níggá crime family”? Like “Yo, bitch! Need some drugs. Be rippin’ off whitey. Stay cool.”? Well, we report (what TheBlaze doesn’t) and you decide:

“Pipkins mother, Catherine, said ‘… Somebody called me and said my son got shot that’s the reason I’m standing here,’ said Catherine Pipkins. ‘Somebody called her [her daughter-in-law] and told her he had got shot. She said, “Momma you need to sit down, they said BJ just got killed.” That’s the reason I’m here.’ The woman said her son did not live at the home.”

How come the perpetrator was not obligated to warn the homeowner that he intended to break in. All I heard the family of the criminal say was the home owner could have done this or should have done that. What responsibility do they take for their own? Idiots will always learn the hard way.

He did have a warning… The lack of an “Open To The Public” sign !!!
If you break into a home, you have to expect that someone just might defend themselves or their property.
Also, at least a partial description of the perpetrator was a foregone conclusion well before the names were stated. When the headline stated that the family was protesting at the house of the victim (elderly homeowner) , nothing else needed to be said. And before anyone starts screaming about what a racist I am… I don’t care one single bit about race! I am not a racist, nor does this have anything to do with race! This has everything to do with culture!!! Far too many people bled, burned, hung, and died for your civil rights for you to devolve into a bunch of snarling hyenas! There was a discussion on local radio last night about this case. Several callers point out something very important missing in the article. A “warning shot” in Texas is illegal, and if you discharge your weapon without aiming at a target you intend to hit, you will be arrested for endangering the public.

Warning shots are needlessly dangerous and destructive. Fortunately most gun owners know to watch their line of fire. I seriously doubt that the first round is a blank, so that warning shot is going to hit something. Residential construction is such that even 22LR can go through walls, so knowledge of your line of fire is moot. It is far better to unquestionably solve the problem with the first round than to postpone it to another time. I hope this gentleman did not shoot too soon.

ROFALOL!!!!! This elderly man did what he hade to to protect his life and property. He acted properly and followed Texas law. How was he to know if the intruder had a murderous intent or nor. This intruder has a long criminal record and wouldn’t have thought twice about beating the homeowner within an inch of his life.

He now had better watch his back because it seems that his family now has a grudge against him and from the way the family acted, they must all be a bunch of violence prone people.

      Fish
Not true. Colorado has one of the strongest castle doctrines in the country. The stature states, “that any occupant of a dwelling is justified in using any degree of physical force, including deadly physical force, against another person when that other person has made an unlawful entry into the dwelling, and when the occupant has a reasonable belief that such other person has committed a crime in the dwelling in addition to the uninvited entry, or is committing or intends to commit a crime against a person or property in addition to the uninvited entry, and when the occupant reasonably believes that such other person might use any physical force, no matter how slight, against any occupant.” So, Deyfon would most likely have found himself in the same situation out here. Even as Colorado slides to the liberal hell of gun control.

Okay, the perp has a long criminal history. He breaks into this older man’s house. The man puts him down. He was within his rights under the “so-called” Castle Doctrine ” but the police are still referring this to the Grand Jury. And the perp’s family shows up at the man’s house demanding that he should have issued a warning. Well, let’s see. Deyfon was a professional criminal. Lakesha needs to accept that Deyfon was a criminal and he broke into a home. No warning was needed. The case doesn’t even need to go to the Grand Jury but the police are afraid that they will be called racist and riots will ensue. Give it three days and Al and Jessie will be in Dallas leading marches.

Heck, I gave Deyfon the benefit of the doubt, until I read his sister’s name, Lakesha. Then I knew. What a laughable family. “You should have old him you had a gun” “You should have fired a warning shot.”
If, in Deyfon’s extensive criminal record of B $ E, he should have known the perils of his bad habit.
This should not go to a Grand Jury. The Dallas police are wusses and bow at the altar of racism.

      Vet,

I don’t know about Texas, but in Georgia, when the police or civilians are involved in self defense shootings, the case is taken to the Grand Jury. After it is “No Billed” twice, it can never be brought up again. It protects the good guy. It may be same in Texas.

I agree, once the *family* showed up, how did we know he was black? Its just not fair for whity to shoot you without warning… I was only trying to take what WAS NOT MINE! I see by his past criminal record that he didnt understand the warning the last 16 times.. so why bother now? I sincerly hope this guy doesnt have to sit at his window with a gun in his lap the rest of his life, but you know he will, they’ll get a gang together and hound this poor guy to the grave

Let me provide a verbal warning to all would be criminals, MOST PEOPLE IN TEXAS ARE ARMED AND NOT AFRAID TO PULL THE TRIGGER. There you criminals have all been warned.

The Grand Jury procedure is required, but is also to protect the homeowner by disarming the man’s family of possible civil action against him. Sort of closes the loop holes and nails down the facts in a legal way. They are actually doing the old guy a favor!

Well, he had every right to defend himself. The burglar could have come into his home and killed him, and to give a warning first is ridiculous. That would be enough time for the man to attack the elderly man. The home owner is the victim.

He could have used a warning,” Lakesha Thompson, Pipkins’ sister-in-law, said. “He could have let him know that he did have a gun on his property and he would use it in self-defense.

Why does the homeowner have to give a warning when someone breaks into his house? You’re an insult to humanity and your attitude is offensive.
