Bob Beckel Argues College Women Dont Need to Carry Guns

During a discussion about concealed carry laws on college campuses, “The Five” co-host Bob Beckel questioned whether women really need to carry firearms for self-defense because “when was the last time you heard about a rape on campus?”

Beckel said if you allow students to carry guns on campus, there is a greater chance for shootings.

“If you eliminate the opportunity for anyone to have a gun at all, you’re telling the bad guys, there’s an area that no one is carrying a gun,” co-host Eric Bolling said.

That’s when Beckel asked: “When was the last time you heard about a rape on campus?”

“What are you talking about, it’s rampant,” Bolling shot back.

Co-host Dana Perino pointed out that date rape is a particularly big problem for women in college.

“Date rape, yeah that’s one thing…but you gonna take a gun out and shoot your date?” Beckel asked.

“Maybe you should,” co-host Greg Gutfeld remarked.

Co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle was more definitive. She said “If your date is a rapist, you shoot them.” Watch the segment via Fox News below:

Beckel has apologized for the remarks. Via Politico:

“It’s a horrible, horrendous issue. Simply put, rape is rape. Whether it’s date rape or it’s somebody coming in off the campus trying to rape somebody else. I very strongly feel that way,” Beckel said on Fox’s ‘The Five.’ “So, I just want to straighten the record out on that. I simply was trying to make — there was not a distinction to make here. It simply was that date rape is rape, and that is, by any other definition, rape is rape.”

  I’d actually agree with Bob here. Guns are used to attack people at a distance, in a date situation you’re already in close proximity where it’s easy to disarm someone, especially a woman, and in a date rape situation you might have been drugged. A taser would work much better.

Probably far more women are mugged, so shouldn’t just any violence against women should be included?

The problem with crooks is, since if they’re willing to break the law in the first place you have no idea where one will draw the line.

It’s the same with their breaking into your home. How are you supposed to know if they’re there for just robbery, or are they there to rape and/or murder?

What are you supposed to do? Ask them and expect an “honest” answer?

  I bookmarked it. It is one of my concerns. College bureaucrats are like the Boy Scouts and the Catholic Church. They have no of their strength, but the prefer that stats not be collected or reported about campus crime. It is not something they want have prospectives students and their parent s know.

  Keep in mind that a man can be charged with rape if he sleeps with a woman who is under the influence of alcohol, even if he is drunk too! Also keep in mind that college campuses use a system with much lower standards to determine whether or not a “rape” has been committed. Most require nothing more than a preponderance of the evidence which is nowhere near what would be required in a criminal case. Basically, if the possibility of a rape having occurred can be deduced with the accuracy of a coin flip then that’s considered a rape and the guy is expelled.

University / College campuses are RAMPANT with rape, both violent, and date / drunken rape. Its true that over 48% of rape accusations on college are actually false allegations against innocent guys, but still, there are an enormous amount of rapes at universities, most of which go unreported. This is just another example of the absolute disgusting brain dead mindset of the left wing. This is as bad as that religious wacko running for office last term saying women don’t get pregnant during rape, that the body has a way of naturally shutting that down.   Dangerous. Burden of proof is on potential rape victim. It might work DURING a rape, but it might be hard to justify in court. If the shooting occurs AFTER a rape, it might be argued that there was no imminent threat to the rape victim’s life. A felony assault charge or even something like attempted murder might be lodged against the rape victim. If the “rapist” dies, then the victim could be looking at anything from manslaughter to murder…unless there’s a very sympathetic jury.

BECKEL is a certified IDIOT who is a LIBERAL PUPPET. HE would call a black pot white or the sky green if they told him to. He uses NO LOGIC, has -0- respect for the truth and is the reason I refuse to watch THE FIVE. I don’t mind hearing another POV, if there is truth attached…he has never known the truth, evidently. I hope a bunch of “just normal” Americans get elected this next election and all of these ROVE-TYPE/McCain speak/Piglosi/Reid Traitor/freaks get shown the door. Hit the ROAD JACK…..

Too many colleges actively downplay or even cover-up rapes which occur on campus. I know that from people who work or have worked at colleges.
However, a more effective deterent to rape might be a taser. It’s also less likely to lead to felony charges and/or serious legal ramifications for the potential rape victim.
