Have Any More Gun Makers Stopped Selling To Anti-Gun States? (Hint: Yeah, Lots More)

Last Friday TheBlaze reported on a growing list of gun manufacturers and retailers who had stopped selling to law enforcement in states that were enacting stringent new gun laws.

Since that report, the initial list (seen below) has changed. However, none of the “big three” (Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson) providers to law enforcement have stepped up and joined the companies who have chosen to take a public stand on the issue. In less than two weeks, at least 18 companies have made the decision to stop selling to law enforcement in states that limit a private citizen’s right to own a gun.

There is one arms maker that has gotten attention for publicly stating that they will not be pressured into stopping sales to law enforcement. That company is ArmaLite.

more gun makers stop selling to states that restrict private gun ownership

According to posts on several gun-supporting blog sites, Armalite answered email inquires with some unwelcome attitude. This is the reply reportedly sent from a sales rep identified as Pat Raley.

Dear concerned gun owner,

First of all I would like to say thank you for filling my email with all this spam email.

Second, I am not sure where you got this blanket email from to send out as spam, but please stop it.

Third, The manufacturer is not the one you need to convince.

You need to convince the law enforcement agencies and the common people about their mistake in electing these officials and have them removed. Again NOT the manufacture.

AR Stands for ArmaLite…

Respectfully,

Pat Raley

The snarky tone of that note did not sit well with the very active pro-gun crowd in the blogosphere. It quickly circled the digital universe. Armalite’s President Mark Westrom reportedly tried to do a little damage control and state his company’s policy more clearly.

At first glance, Westrom’s statement seemed to be along the lines of the companies who had chosen to stop selling to police in New York state.

My purpose here is to pass on his (Raley’s) apology from the corporate level and to answer the initial question: What is ArmaLite going to do?

ArmaLite is continuing a policy put into place when California first banned our rifles. That policy remains:

1. We will not sell to those states which deny it’s honorable citizens the right to own ArmaLite’s.

That statement seems clear. It was the next couple of points that muddied the waters a bit (emphasis added by Armalite):

2. We do not halt sales to individual officers even in problematic states. I am a former Police Officer myself, and the staffer who stimulated the recent anger is a currently serving one. We are well familiar with the fact that most rifles serving Police Officers are purchased by the officers themselves, and that they shouldn’t be punished for the actions of their political elite.
We consider sales to those sate subdivisions which are not engaged or potentially engaged with disarming its citizens. DNR and Forestry Departments, for instance, sometimes serve in remote areas that conceal drug farms and their officers deserve good hardware.

3. We will not sell to those lower political subdivisions that deny their honorable citizens the right to own ArmaLite’s. Chicago, for instance, prohibits its citizens from owning ArmaLite’s within the city limits so we make no effort to sell into that city. We have many friends on the Chicago Police Department and have continued to sell to them individually.

Westrom appears to be saying that they won’t sell to police departments in states where the Second Amendment is being infringed, but will sell to individual officers in those states.

We reached out to the company for comment and have not yet gotten a response. Mark Westrom’s voicemail seems to have been disabled or overwhelmed. Perhaps there is a connection there.

No matter what ArmaLite’s stance may be, there are many new additions to our initial list published late last week.. Joining the expanding group are:

Bullwater, which does business as A&T Firearms, posted a statement on Facebook

Our small company, Bullwater Enterprises LLC dba A & T Firearms out of Sylvania, Georgia is also joining these companies in refusing to do business with any state that is trampling the constitution and Bill of Rights of their citizens. We will not sell anything to any governmental agency, their contractors or employees. We will sell all lawful items to all other citizens of those states. Andrew & Tracy Orphanoudakis.

West Fork Armory also chose the social media outlet for making a statement, and did so with a very clear graphic atop their post.

Image: Facebook

Their message:

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY! All New York Government and official purchases from New York Law Enforcement agencies within that state are cancelled. All future sales will be suspended and firearm servicing is halted until your current bans further restricting law abiding citizens is lifted.

West Fork also named a couple of other states besides New York, while encouraging other companies to join them:

California you’re already on the list, and Colorado your borderline on the list. We suggest all other manufacturers and dealers do the same.

Arizona’s Smith Enterprise posted a letter to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on its website. It shared some of the same sentiments as those who had joined the protest:

Until your state changes your gun control laws and ensures these laws are back in line with the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution, Smith Enterprise will be forced to keep this policy.

At a time when crime is rampant and people are becoming more and more desperate due to the struggling economy, it is imperative that state and local governments support the people’s right to defend themselves from would-be attackers. The police have nothing to fear from law-abiding citizens with guns.

When you change your gun laws back to something more along the lines of what our country was founded on, please let me know and we will reopen our sales in your state to government agencies.

Alex Arms is a firearms dealer, and on Sunday, they posted their new policy:

Alex Arms & Instruction has decided to adopt, as policy, that we will not sell firearms and accessories to any state or governmental agency in any state that prohibits the possession or use of said item by its citizens.

Curiously, Alex Arms has used the company’s website to take a shot at one of their suppliers, Armalite. In a post from Monday, Alex Arms accused Armalite of “having no backbone.” Going forward, Armalite products will not be stocked by Alex Arms until they change their policy.

You either support the Second Amendment, or you do not.  Armalite apparently does not.  They have drawn their line in the sand and have decided to stand on the side of tyranny instead of We, The People.

Spike’s Tactical from Florida stated their policy on Facebook too:

In light of the recent and numerous anti-gun and anti-2nd Amendment laws pending across the Nation, Spike’s Tactical will be joining other manufacturers and distributors and limiting the business we do in states that have limited the right to keep and bear arms for their citizens.

Idaho’s Quality Arms, an AR-15 specialist, has added a page to their company’s website titled “Liberty & Justice for All.” On that page is a lengthy statement on the latest shootings and how the company feels some politicians are manipulating them for their own purposes. The page closes with this statement from Qaulity Arms:

Quality Arms Idaho

Will not supply any firearm or product, manufactured by us, or any other company nor will we warranty, repair, alter, or modify any firearm owned by any State, County or Municipality who infringes on the right of its citizens to bear arms under the 2ndamendment.

David Saylors of Liberty Suppressors published this statement:

We at Liberty Suppressors have decided that we will no longer support the government that is oppressing the people that it was elected to represent. As of Feb. 18, 2013 and continuing until these draconian laws are repealed, Liberty Suppressors will not do business with any government entity in the state of New York until these laws are repealed.

Keep your powder dry,
David Saylors
President
Liberty Suppressors

DoubleStar Corp received almost 3,000 Facebook “likes” in the first 24 hours after they made this declaration:

The JTFOC will no longer sell prohibited items to law enforcement agencies or any government agencies in states, counties, cities, and municipalities that have enacted restrictive gun control laws against their law abiding citizens. We hope other companies will join us with their support. We applaud those already involved with this effort to protect our 2nd Amendment rights.

American Spirit Arms notched even more electronic “thumbs up” after joining the movement.

Count us in! American Spirit Arms will stand beside our fellow firearm manufacturers in the fight against new firearm legislation that imposes gun control on law-abiding citizens. As a firearm manufacturer, we are participating in the stance of only selling the firearms that law-abiding citizens can purchase in that state.

Another AR specialist, Trident Armory took a stand on Sunday night:

Sunday night, 9pm. As of this moment, all contract bids and offers, as well as any current production contracts for any and all US government agencies and affiliates by Trident Armory are null and void.

“We will no longer participate with, or work for a government where the “rights” of the people are able to be adjusted by the whim of the government”.” I will not build guns which can be used to disarm my fellow Americans”

David Hunsucker, CEO of Head Down Firearms encouraged other manufacturers to join his company and others:

Head Down would like to announce that the State of New York, any Law Enforcement Departments, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders within the State of New York, or any New York State government entity or employee of such an entity – will no longer be served as customers. We feel that the passage of this legislation exceeds the authority granted to the government of New York by its citizens, and violates the Constitution of the United States. This announcement is effective today and applies to any and all states that may adopt such laws in the future.

Retailer J&G Sales has a special page dedicated to their position as it concerns sales to law enforcement. Part of the page long statement includes an admission that this decision will cost the company money:

J&G believes that there should not be a difference between the rights of citizens and those of government employees. This new policy will also help us to be sure we avoid the consequences of not conforming with the anti-firearm regulations in these various jurisdictions.

We expect to lose some revenue from government purchases, however we feel it is essential to defend the US Constitution by making a statement about the importance of the Second Amendment in maintaining all our freedoms.

We await the day when all law abiding citizens will be able to possess the most effective means and tools available for self-defense regardless of where they live or for whom they work.

In addition to the growing list of companies taking this action, there is an online coalition working to keep the pressure on manufacturers.

Kudos to the companies that are having the balls to stop selling to these states law enforcement. Screw Armalite for being more about the money than for our 2nd amendment. Wow! They should have thought this one out before they opened there mouth on the web stating how they were going to do business. hmm….

I love this, let’s go one step further and make Law Enforcement observe the same laws the private citizens are subject to. Or call it 2nd Amendment discrimination! Don’t private citizens pay their salary?

For those wanting a ban on ammo, that is not what this movement is about. No states have banned ammo of any kind. This is about asking manufacturers and distributors to offer police officers only the same weapons/equipment that civilians are allowed to have. If/when states ban citizens from buying ammo, then it would be expected that companies do not sell banned ammo to police in those states.

This is not about punishing law enforcement – it is about treating everyone equal, and not playing favorites. Law enforcement should not be exempt from 2nd ammendment restrictions. The goal is to increase pressure on lawmakers by making police play by the same rules as they set for their citizens.

Only when law enforcement feels the impact of legislation will there be a real chance at repeals.

Fantastic! I will be conducting all future business with as many of these fine Patriot companies I can. Unless Glock, Sig Sauer and Smith & Wesson shows their collective support of all citizens 2nd Amendment rights in a timely manner, even nothing more than deferring 50% of government deliveries to show American sportsmen or women they appreciate the generations of business they have received, they support the 2nd Amendment and that this statement has been made. If they don’t, we’ll know where they stand. If we hear nothing my collections from each will be sold and I want to add Ruger to this list. My ROI on these collections some a century old handed down, alone then supplanted with even more precision firepower from those companies above that share my principles and values and that of our Constitution? In one twisted New York second. Don’t take mine or my family’s business for granted GK, SS, SW, RG. These times are very rare and none of you will defer this issue without statement, one way of the other.

Hey, I saw some strange men near my home the other day, right around sunset. They looked suspicious. I took Joe Bidens advice and grabbed the ol’ 12 gauge and racked off a couple of rounds. Oops, it was the cops. The bad news is that I’m in a lot of trouble. But, the good news is that my doctor said they may be able to remove the breathing and feeding tubes tomorrow. Whoopey!!!

It seems to me that all the proposed new gun laws, that we all know will eventually lead to confiscation and banning, would be recognized by everyone in the gun making and associated businesses. It also seems very clear that all gun makers or associated businesses that sells, trades or in any way supply the government more in products providing a means to implement and enforce these new laws is, Oh God her it comes, shooting themselves in the foot.

I’m glad to see so many in support of these companies as in regards denying sales to law enforcement. Though a lot of folks would like you to believe otherwise, a great number of people in law enforcement do not support you, and are certainly not “your friends.” Enough that is, that to easily say it is a majority and in my opinion neutralizes any positive effect that sympathetic law enforcement individuals may produce. The best that could be expected is that some would abandoned their jobs if ordered to blatantly violate the constitution on a national scale. It may well be the time that distinguishing those individuals that are pro-constitution from those that are not, within an organization that is obviously populated by a majority of those that are not, to be simply written off as an anti-constitution supporting organization as a whole. I think then, and only then will the pro-constitution individuals realize that the only way to be recognized as such is to separate themselves from those organizations. Then ladies and gentlemen, things will get what those British of old might say as, “a bit stuffy.”

I believe the U.S. Gov’t can place an order for firearms, bullets, or freeze-dried rations and it goes to the head of the line. You know, national security and all. That means they can dry up the supply of any item by purchasing the entire production capability of the manufacturer and pay for it with currency hot off the presses. I suggest removing the pictures of ex-Presidents from paper currency and start listing our RIGHTS as a free people instead.

Ah Ha! You win a prize. Remember when the pepper movement really started taking off? Soon thereafter the largest supplier in the world of freeze dried foods suddenly stopped selling to the general public. Hmmm. When asked they would only say that a request had been made for an order so large that the company had to devote 100% of their resources to fill the order and could take no others. I wonder who that was? When this was occurring I asked a friend who was with me at the time to go to the company website. He did. He saw all the products the company offered. he said nothing looks unusual. I said scroll down the list. Pick the absolutely most unappetizing thing you can find. He did and said, so what?. I said click on the tab that says BUY. He did, he turned several shades lighter as it said, “We’re sorry. That item is temporarily out of stock. He clicked on one after another, “Out of Stock, Out of Stock, Out of Stock, Out of Stock. Please make another selection or try again later. Seems like lately when we press the button for “GOVERNMENT: we get “Please make another selection or try again later.” I’m ready to not only try another selection but switch brands as well.

So the small retailers and manufacturers who don’t have big contracts from the States they are boycotting, are not going to sell to them. And to show your support, you are all going to quit buying the guns from the “big three”? Or maybe these small companies will voluntarily give up lucrative government contracts to appease customers who may or may not show their support by buying their guns only. Essentially voluntarily give up big revenues to possibly get smaller revenues?

I don’t think they are making the huge sacrifice some of you think.

It’s all pointless grandstanding unless the three manufacturers that sell 99% of the guns and equipment law enforcement agencies/officers actually use take the same stand.

Most of the companies jumping on this bandwagon, well intentioned as they may be, never really sold to law enforcement anyway. It’s just like all the stories about all the advertisers discontinuing ad placement on a particular network or radio station or during a particular show because of some political stance. Exept that none of the advertisers “discontinuing” their ads ever advertised there to begin with.

Remington – New York, Ruger and Colt – Connecticut, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Arms – Mass. Why would anyone who respects the second amendment keep their plant in a state which makes your products illegal? My next gun will be made in a state friendly to the Second Amendment.

It has become obvious that anything, no matter how small, traded to further empower the government, from the smallest town’s dog catcher all the way to the white house is but one more nail in the coffin of our already heavily eroded freedoms. Further, it is just as obvious that government from the smallest town’s dog catcher all the way to the white house is ripe with anti-American personnel who’s only goal is the permanent retirement of our constitution and along with it our rights. They believe, as countless other failed dictators, communist and socialist regimes and the like that use intimidation and force against their own countrymen to attain and hold power, that they have a better way. Regardless of what the people say. The only way they can succeed is if we empower them. The companies listed here that are refusing sale to all involved in the government have realized this. If something like this were to spread throughout the business world, not just the gun and accessories makers but to all businesses, This struggle to remove this tyrannical government, restore the original intent of our constitution and once again have the citizens of The United States Live as free men, why this struggle might be won without a single shot fired. It is no secret amongst the military’s of the world that to defeat even the largest most advanced armies is but to simply cut off it’s supply line. This is simply free advertising for these small arms dealers. None of the police get their guns from any of them. They are large contracts with the big three and I am sure if they stopped selling them they would be sued for breach of contract and would loose. Maybe if a contract came up and they declined that would be something, but the other two would just absorb the hit.

It’s all feel good. Maybe the best would be someone bringing court into this suing any company that sales to these states on the grounds that it is illegal, but no, because I think only the Government can sue on legal grounds.

You are wrong on one hand, right on the other. As it stands now you are right. There are not enough. Your insinuation that these gun makers are doing this for free advertisement is, and I must put this bluntly, grossly inaccurate and insulting. To believe that all gun manufactures would suddenly all do the same thing at nearly the same time is juvenile. It has to start somewhere with some person. I cannot think of anything big that did not start small. The largest of avalanche first starts with the shift of just a small amount of snow. Your comments and efforts would be better served commending the courage of these few small businesses to stand against an overwhelming giant. Your comments of commendation will go much further to enlist followers than your outright dismissal of the founders. There was once a crazy notion, that to speak it aloud meant certain death. But behind closed doors and amongst only the most trusted the words, “We Must Be Free” were uttered. Despite the risk and nearly certain fate, brave men & women spoke it more and more and it spread. Like a match struck in the darkest of caves it blinded with intensity although at that time it was merely a flicker.

In Nazi Germany the people who refused to work in the war factories were forced with the fear of severe punishment and death always hovering over their heads if they did not perform. But still, at every turn, every opportunity these forced workers sabotaged the assembly lines and the products. I believe that if the government resorted to the measures you stated they would find themselves with similar incidents of revolt and ultimately go the way of all dictatorships that have operated from the throne of force.

It seems to me that the federal government is playing the biggest role in getting these new gun laws enacted, even when they’re by state and local governments — and that the feds are also the biggest police-state danger to citizens in most of America. These boycotts ought to include the entire Federal government until not only the UN treaty and the Feinstein bill but the GCA ’68 are in the dustbin of history.

I am in the market for a .308 AR type rifle.

I own multiple standard AR’s, unfortunately from S&W & Sig Sauer who are not on the list.

Spikes Tactical, Larue, and Head Down are definitely manufacturers. Even in this market you can get a Head Down AR for $1200 here, and they are only 2 towns over from me.

All of these companies make nice guns. Spikes is up there in quality with any takers. Larue is above and beyond.

I am looking to buy a Larue as soon as my budget allows.

I will not buy any products from a company that is NOT a part of this coalition.

All of you people who say “This means nothing” obviously mean to continue to buy from supporters of Tyranny.

Law enforcement sales are a VERY SMALL percentage of sales as opposed to sales to the citizenry.

If a huge part of the gun buying public bucked the F*** up and bought only from these companies the big companies could be nearly run out of business.

So quit your whining and change your habits. Or is that too much trouble for you, crybabies?

Get a M-1a1 (m-14) you will not be sorry. rugged. and does not have the Problems AR’s have with the locking lugs.piston rather than direct gas operation.Won’t fail you when expending lots of ammo at a time.

Chuck7884 – I have looked at the M1-A1 (Civilian M14) quite a bit as they are battle proven rifles, still in the hands of Combat Marksmen to this day in the Middle east.

But Springfield Armory is not on the list as of yet, and unless they join the coalition, no money for them.

The Larue OBR is fielded by our Special Forces as well and I will likely lean in that direction for now.

You should order some stickers or a mount from Larue and get the 10th annual International Sniper Competition video. It is amazing how far the accuracy has come on their Semi Autos in particular. They beat the 24″ Bolt Actions with an 18″ Semi Auto with collapsible stock.

You might get some Dillo Dust thrown in. That dry rub makes Pork Chops into something heavenly. When I ordered my Remington 700 short action rail mount, they sent me about $65 worth of free stuff. Who even does that? The mount was only $75 if i recall. I got a tactical Dillo bottle opener, the free video, “Extremely Rightwing” and “God bless our troops, especially our Snipers” bumper stickers, plus the aforementioned Dillo Dust. Did I mention that stuff is awesome?

Larue is a real American company and treats its customers with respect.

Chuck7884 – One of the companies on the list does belt fed conversions for box magazines. Do an internet search on “Belt Fed AR” and you will get many companies that play ball.

A belt fed AR could possible give a lib an aneurism.

There is no magazine to regulate. The box is optional. You could feed straight out of an ammo can.

Add “Midway USA” to the list. The are a HUGE supplier of ammo and parts. I know every little bit counts but, we need the big dogs to get on board… Smith & Wesson, Remington, and Ruger.
