FARMERSBURG, Ind. (AP) — An Indiana school district reeling from the uproar over a teacher’s comments that she believes gays have no purpose in life suspended the woman Wednesday.
Superintendent Mark Baker of the Northeast School Corp. in western Indiana’s Sullivan County issued a statement saying the teacher has been placed on administrative leave out of concern “for the safety and security of everyone in our buildings.” He added that “as a precaution” the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police “have deemed it necessary to station an officer” at North Central Junior-Senior High School in Farmersburg, about 75 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
He said the “administration and one school employee in particular” at the school have received “aggressive email messages.”
“We are turning over to law enforcement all such communications,” Baker said.
The superintendent did not identify the teacher, but special education teacher Diana Medley’s comments have circulated widely on social networking sites amid news coverage in nearby Sullivan of a non-school sanctioned prom that would ban gay students. Sullivan, a city of about 4,200, is near the Illinois border.
“I just … I don’t understand it,” Medley said when asked whether homosexuals have a purpose in life. She was speaking to WTWO-TV of Terre Haute at a planning meeting earlier this month for the anti-gay dance.
Medley, who has no published telephone number, couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday. She didn’t immediately respond to a message that The Associated Press sent to her school email account.
“As many of you know and appreciate, our school corporation is continuing to manage as responsibly and respectfully as possible the fallout from comments made by an employee as she attended a meeting outside of school or a school activity,” Baker said. “We have conveyed our disappointment and our disagreement with these statements and have emphasized her comments do not reflect our schools’ views or opinions.”
As of Wednesday, a petition on Change.org calling for Medley’s dismissal had generated more than 19,500 signatures from as far away as the United Kingdom, and a Facebook page supporting a prom that includes all students had more than 28,000 likes. Meanwhile, some gay rights groups are trying to bolster the confidence of gay teens with a Facebook page that will collect supportive videos.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 8:47amHere we go again, banning the use of free speech. It is not a crime to express how you feel about a subject (unless it is something like yelling “Fire is a crowded establishment when there is no fire). Politics have carried the restriction of “hate” speech way to far and it is time to STOP IT. Fire the politicians and start over (all of them).

Helps the rest of us normal people identify who among us are the bigots. But, if you are going to be an anti-gay bigot, you have no place in a public service profession caring for other people’s children, some of whom might be gay, and all of whom have a right to know that you are not a threat to them physicly or mentally.

All these liberal do*chebag teachers are wrong. More over if shes fired for stating the UNPC facts why in an INSTITUTION OF LEARNING ARE SO MANY ALLOWED TO USE THEIR LEFTIST IDEOLOGY TO INDOCTRINATE.

When a teacher says that have no purpose in life, that is very damaging to any student within that group. Students have a hard enough time being bullied by other classmates, they do not need to be bullied by their teachers. This would be akin to an Atheist teacher saying that Christian students have no purpose in life. I imagine you would be outraged, and demand that the teacher be fired. You would say that such a teacher had no place teaching our children. You would be right. This teacher has no place teaching our children either.
Also, if you truly believe that your only purpose in this life is procreation, then I feel sorry for you. And gays can have children anyway.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 1:51pmHARRY,
The primary purpose of existance is procreation of the species. Not just in man but in all forms of life.
That is why we are here. Just because the truth is hurtful is no reason to hide it. Should doctor quit doing test for aids, cancer,or other very destructive and terminal diseases because to tell the patient they are dying MIGHT HURT THEM. Should we hide the fact the drugs addicts have problems so we can spare their feels as well. Facts are facts and hiding them doesn’t make them not true.
PERCEPTION IS ONLY REALITY ONLY TO THOSE THAT LIVE IN A FANTASY.
So do you think speaking the truth in an institution of learning is wrong but lying or not allowing all the fact be laid out and have students decide for themselves to indoctrinate students towards an ideology is acceptable.

Let me go over my points again, because you clearly did not understand. The purpose of a species is to reproduce itself with offspring. That I won’t argue with. But humans are more intelligent, and are more than just animals. If your sole purpose in this life is to create children, that’s fine. I feel like I am here for more than just passing on my genetic material. Life is about so much more than procreation. It is about love, it is about helping your fellow man, it is about finding happiness and your place in the universe. Also, gay people can have children. They can adopt, they can use Sperm donors or surrogate mothers. I know several gay couples with children.

How’s supressing free speech because you don’t like it helping anyone but yourself. How indoctrianting children by not allowing them the facts helping anyone but yourself. How is forcing an ideology on religious institution helping anyone but yourself.
Gay aren’t helping humanity they are destructive to the moral fiber of a healthy society.
The being said if teachers have a right to put forth pro-gay agendas so should they have a right denounce it. AND LET THE KIDS DECIDE
Or keep sex out of the schools all together.

It is not repressing free speech if she is acting as a representative of the school and saying that some if the students have no purpose in life. That is very harmful to any gay student in the school. Again, if she had said that all Christians had no purpose in life and that all their beliefs were wrong, what would you think? Would she deserve to be fired then? Of course! This woman is allowed her own opinions, but she needs to keep them out of the school, and away from her students.
I agree that students should be given just the facts and no personal opinions. Some people are heterosexual, this is how they have sex, these are the dangers, and precautions you need to take. Some people are homosexual, this is how they have sex, these are the dangers and precautions you need to take. This is called sex education and is important at the high school level to answer questions about sex that kids have so they don’t do anything dangerous without knowing better.
And why do you think that gays are destructive to the moral fiber of a healthy society? We have been around in every society since the dawn if humanity. I think that zealots like yourself are the destructive part of society. We promote acceptance and wish to all live in harmony, while you are promoting discrimination and advocating that some people were born better than others. Which sounds more destructive to you?

Her purpose in life may well be to question the lack of purpose of gay people’s lives..but she gets paid to educate students not to support or not support the sex lives of others. Again, the poor reporting of the Blaze does not make clear where her remarks were made regarding a off-campus non school event. If said to students, can her..off campus…leave her alone. The human orifices have been thoroughly explored by men and women in various combinations as long as there have been humans. Do celibate straights, sterile straights have purpose in life? If our purpose is to multiply then I suppose they would have no purpose. I look forward to the day the gay/lesbian stands up and proudly proclaims what they do with their genitalia..and the rest of us respond with..”So what”..imagine if we made sex a personal matter between those consenting adults ..and none of anyone else s business ? That includes the “gay” agenda and those who think they will burn in the eternal fires of hell. I have little respect for people who define themselves by there sexual desires, the gay who “comes out” or the guy who brags about the babes he nailed last weekend. We, some of we, have lost all self respect for ourselves and respect for others and our national discussions reflect that all too often.

Actually, I also look forward to the day when someone comes out and is met with, “So what?” It should not matter who you love. But if you are wondering why some people are obsessed with the sex lives of others, ask the commenters here on the Blaze. They are the ones who seem obsessed with what gay people do in their bedrooms, and being able to actively discriminate against them. Coming out is still an important part in a gay person’s life because the gay community is still persecuted in some ways, and many people just do not understand what it means to be gay. There are still too many people with homophobic ideals or preconceptions of gay people that just aren’t true. When a person says they are gay, they are not telling you about their sex life, they are telling you which gender they are attracted to. If you assumed that person to be straight before-hand, then you know just as much about their sex life after they come out. If I was to say, “I have a girlfriend,” you would say, “Aw, how cute!” If I were to say, “I’m gay” you say, “I don’t want to know what you do in the bedroom.” That makes no sense at all.

When the bible says in the last days it will be as in the days of Lot, it’s saying that you will be forced to accept them. Not all of the people there were participating in the act of sodomy. There were children there and Lots daughters were married to sodomite men. But they all accepted it.
Keep in mind these tolerant “gay” (supposed to mean happy or joyful) were going to rape those 2 individuals that God sent. When I went to down town Ft. Worth for the sodomite parade to stand against it, that’s what they threaten me with if we didn’t accept their behavior.
These people are by no means gay. They are miserable individuals that are confused as to what the role of sex is in their lives. It is to reproduce, not treat as a carnival.

First, sodomite does not mean the same as a gay male. Look it up, it refers to a number of sexual acts, all of them available to straight people. Second, I am gay, and I am also a happy person. In fact, all the gay people I know are in general happier than the ultra-conservative commenters on here. Third, sex is for more than procreation. It is about physically expressing your love for the person who you care for most. Not only is sex no longer needed for procreation, if you have 2 children, and have had sex more than 2 times in your life, you are breaking your own rule!

Of course you are. I mean with all the special support and coddling you receive; the special class designation; the ability to be a narcissist and claim bigotry anytime someone disagrees with it; and the fact that liberal society is worshiping homosexuals. Why wouldn’t you be happy since you are now special? You can say and do whatever you want! Who is not living in reality? You my friend. Your gayness has indeed afforded you a special class designation under the law. How many stories do we read in the news about someone being fired or sued for standing up for traditional beliefs? Do you recall the wedding farm and the cake baker recently? In today’s workforce you have to walk on pins and needles for fear of offending someone. I worked in government almost 20 years. I had to sit through the same BS diversity training this site just had a story on, although it wasn’t as bad then. Perhaps you are one of the few who keep it to yourself, although you didn’t here. My problem are those who endlessly flaunt it and push this gay agenda on everyone else. Those who tell the rest of us we cannot believe in traditional marriage, family, and have our faith because they don’t like it. Too freakin bad dude! Get over yourselves already.

What are you talking about? None of this makes any sense! First, I asked how YOU had been persecuted, not stories of other people you found on the internet. And being sued for discrimination is not persecution, it is justice (and usually a completely stupid waste of time and money). But if you want to talk about persecution, fine. In 29 states, it is legal to be fired just for being gay. There are dozens of gay people who have been fired and have no legal standing to complain. We hear all the time about no marriage, but civil unions are fine. In 21 states, civil unions are banned. In places where civil unions are allowed, they are not recognized by the federal government, and do not afford the same rights as marriage. Legally, gay people are treated very different than straight people, that is true. You have so many more rights than we do.
And you complain about gay people being in your face about it all. Well maybe you should stop being so in our faces with your straightness. I agree that a person’s sexual orientation should not matter, but it is people like you that make it matter. You insist that we try to be someone other than ourselves, you try to deny us equal rights. If a straight couple walked down the street holding hands, no one would care, but God forbid if a gay couple did that! I don’t care what you believe in, but don’t try to force it on me, and don’t try to deny me equality.

You think it is us making it an issue? Oh please! You say “You have so many more rights than we do.” No I absolutely do not. You were born with the same rights I was and have the same rights I do. If students can be suspended for what they say on Facebook and Twitter, if they can be expelled for actions not committed on school grounds, then what the teacher said can be used as cause for suspension. Understand, I don’t think schools have the right to control students’ thoughts, words, and actions off school grounds, neither do I think employers have that right over their employees. But in this moronic attitude of ‘zero tolerance’, the same standards should apply to both. Free speech is free speech and there is no right to not be offended. So yeah, we have as much right to be offended by the sanctimonious idiots as you do to be offended by the gays. And both have exactly equal rights to speak and live however they wish.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 11:58pmMy assertion that the Prhomo Agenda is NOT about “equal rights” but about ABROGATING the Constitutional Rights of, and SILENCING, all those who would freely exercise their religion and free speech by daring to CALL a perversion a perversion—is now proven.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 1:05amFree speech hasn’t been free in a long time. You are free to say what you want, but you open yourself up to slander. That’s been around for a long time. It’s nothing new.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 2:52amThe “deal” is that ho mo sexuals are bullies and have institutionalized the process of being bullies.
Note the petition was signed “by people as far away as Great Britain”. A world-wide, systematic, organized bully structure exists for the explicit purpose of destroying anyone who dares to disagree with the gay gestapo.
These bullies are repugnant.

WHO CARES?
Gays represent a scant 2+% of the population. I’d be THRILLED if this teacher could “relate to” 97% of her students. That, in the current union-infested educational environment, would be an herculean success.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 11:43pmThe Lord leveled entire cities to stop sexual deviants from defiling the gifts He gave them, their bodies and minds.
If you think you’re a F@G, then you need to stop asking, “What’s wrong with society and how do I change it?” and start asking, “Why am I worthy of destruction in the eyes of the Lord and how do I change that?”

You got a better way to frame the issues cough it up, I’m willing to hear it.
Until then, to quote the 20th Century’s Greatest Philosopher, “Phahgh is as Phahgh does.”

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 12:36amBig Mick- The problem is that it’s insulting and Jesus is love. If you want people to listen you don’t insult them you debate them politely. Logic 101. IF you don’t know this, I don’t see how you’d convert anyone to Christianity. Jesus sat with sinners that includes homosexuals if he were around today. Become part of the solution not the problem. It’s about the delivery. DELIVERY DELIVERY DELIVERY. Repeat after me.
