Laura Bush, Colin Powell and Dick Cheney Featured in…New Gay Rights Ad
The Respect for Marriage Coalition, a group pushing to end the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), is likely to catch the ire of social conservatives with a new spot that features prominent Republican voices speaking out in favor of same-sex marriage. The individuals shown in the clip are former Vice President Dick Cheney, First Lady Laura Bush and former Sec. of State Colin Powell. President Barack Obama’s comments about gays and lesbians from last month’s inaugural address are also included.
The group, which is a combined effort of the Human Rights Campaign and Freedom to Marry, is planning to spend $1 million to air the spot as well as to place a print version featuring quotes from these Republicans in prominent newspapers. In addition to full-page ads in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, these blurbs will also appear online.

The video ad is entitled, “Leadership,” and it features a voice over that advances the notion that Americans are increasingly becoming supportive of gay rights and same-sex marriage (public opinion polls corroborate this claim).
“None of us would want to be told we can’t marry the person we love. That’s why a growing majority of Americans believe it’s time to allow marriage for gay and lesbian couples,” the ad proclaims.
Bush is then shown in a 2010 CNN interview saying, “When couples are committed to each other and love each other then they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has.” In a separate CNN exchange from last year, Powell notes, “Allowing them to live together with the protection of law, it seems to me is the way we should be moving in this country.” And Cheney says that “freedom means freedom for everyone.”

Why are you gay? You do not know. How many years has been since they have been researching it?
Where is the gay gene?
Gays do have gabies, at times. But getting to ZPG is a lot easier with a gay population. In the meantime the elites are lording it over you.
They gave you some luxuries but lately they have been cracking down on what you can eat & how much. they took away your cigarettes. In return they will give you other drugs, but only for a while. They will give you some movies but will heavily restrict you carbon footprint be restricting your house & transportation.
In the meantime Bloomberg flies 5000 miles to Bermuda for weekends. Clinton and Obama fly to the Hamptons or other richy rich locations. How is their carbon footprint?

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 5:36pmI just said there are more than a few people in power that want people to be gay so the population decreases. The theory has been posited before. All they have to do for it to come about is to make life difficult. They already do a good job of that. Seeing as how economists have shown that homosexuality goes up when times are tough, what do you think happens when electricity rates necessarily skyrocket?

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 2:28pmTBH, I would think anyone who was honest about their conservative or libertarian principles would completely support repealing DOMA. Marriage is none of the federal govt’s business, at all. Marriage really isn’t even a state issue, it’s a church issue. I don’t want the govt, on any level, involved in my marriage. If you get tax benefits or any other benefits from the govt because you are married, that opens the door for them to dictate to you whatever other rights, privileges or benefits your marriage receives or doesn’t receive because you didn’t toe the line. Your marriage is between you, your spouse, and God. Why do you need tax incentives to join in Holy Matrimony? Get rid of all tax benefits for marriage. My opinion is to keep the church aspect of the marriage completely separate from whatever contract you sign between yourself and your significant other down a city hall. If two men or two women want to go down to city hall, sign a contract with each other and “call it marriage”, they can call it whatever they want. They’re not hurting you, nor are they taking any validity away from your marriage. Whether or not it’s “real”, they can take that up with God later. I’m sure He’ll have something to say about it. As long as they leave the church alone and don’t try to force them to perform, accept, or recognize the union I really don’t care what others do. It’s not breaking my leg, it’s not picking my pocket.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 2:55pmThere is only one reason for the government to be involved in marriage and it is why they are involved.
For the nation to survive we need to procreate good dependable citizens. So the nation has an interest in this. The best way to insure this is to subsidize and promote the best system known to man, the marraige of one woman to one man. Since the woman usually subserviates her options to raise good dependable citizens she needs to be protected by the state since she gives up marketable skills. This is the only reason for the state to be involved.
Homosexual relationships do not meet this need of the state.
The result of calling both the same will be for the state to do exactly what you say, get out of the marraige business. This will happen when the POLYGAMY rights movement starts.
Then the feminist will have their Utopia, any woman that gets married and ends up destitute because the state no longer intervene in “marraige” AKA divorce, it will be the womans fault for trusting a man in the first place.

Here’s the problem, friend, the government isn’t just involved in marriage (as well it should not be), but it’s also compulsorily involved in education, too. The homosexual agenda seems to be to push teaching about homosexuality to elementary school-aged children.
How do you fight an agenda that’s being pushed on all fronts? I think most Constitutionalists don’t much care how gay you are inside your home. Heck, be gay until your eyeballs explode for all I care. But I don’t want it taught in school. I don’t want it waved in my face. How in the world can it make sense to advertise to gay people (think Target and JCP) when they’re such a small percentage of the population?
Then you read about small businesses who refuse to bake cakes or hold wedding receptions for homosexuals, and those people are attacked. Homosexuals try to use the force of law to fight something that should be a free-market issue.
You’re not going to convince many of us while all this other nonsense is going on. Good luck, though.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 2:17pmIf the Government wants to get so involved in Marriage, then is should get involved in enforcing the ows of marriage, and the morality of it. In other words if marriage trully means anything to the government then those that get married should be held accountable in the face of the law for such acts such as cheeting on your spouse. Maybe if we brought some morals back to our law system we would bring morals back to our country.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 2:24pmRight on Gonzo. Unfortunately, Encinom is right. We will eventually lose the battle in this world. It was deemed so before the world was even created.
This country exists by the grace of God. Think about it, we didn’t beat the British, they walked away from the fight. We are talking the British Empire of the 18th century. This country was founded on biblical morals. But it is long over guys. Christians have become no better than the pharisees of Jesus’ day for the most part.
It is time to regroup. Look to your own walk, understand the world will never be right. Leave Encinom and those like him to their filth. I will never vote for or condone gay marriage, however, I don’t give a flip if the government recognizes it or not. This is NOT a Christian nation and homosexuality is just another sin. So according to the “Beyond Marriage” doctrine polygamy is AOK so long as you can support yourself or con the government into providing subsidies.

“Consent” is still a fence to bestiality and under age marriage but a tottering one.
You have many people even today that are convinced Dolphins and Primates are as smart or smarter than us and can be communicated with. Same with pet owners. At some point some “dog whisperer” WILL say “We’re so much in love!”. The problem with “age of consent” as a barrier is that it VARIES with CULTURE—”she has not seen the turn of 14 summers!” “Younger than this, in Verona, are happy mothers made!” Romeo and Juliet.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 1:25pmThis country is on the verge of financial collapse. We are in need of God’s help more than ever before. So what does Obama and other politicians do? They thumb their noses at the Most High, calling evil good. Gay marriage has an adverse effect on our entire society. When the ruling authorities in a society thumb their noses at the laws of the Most High God by calling evil (homosexuality) good, then God withdraws His blessing and hedge of protection and the chaos of judgment commences. That is, the proportion that a society goes against the will of God, that is the proportion God withdraws His hedge of blessing and protection. And as God withdraws, the Devil has room to come in and do his thing. Demons have a freer reign and they are attracted to evil human inclinations like flies are attracted to fresh dung. You can see this now across America as we draw away from God. The tragic accidents come from the Devil doing his thing and the bizarre crimes and shootings and what not are the result of demons stoking the evil inclinations of human flesh. We are reaping and sowing this spiritual law. All of America is suffering the effects of what our political leaders have wrought with their foolish rulings sanctioning perversion. Will God help us in our time of need? If we expect God’s blessings on our society, we need to turn back to Him. Otherwise, the chaos of judgment and destruction has only just begun.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 2:50pmSeriously – do you honestly believe in real life demons? Im not talking about allegory…such as alcoholics have demons….but you truly believe there are evil demons in a literal sense?

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 3:14pmOK – you live in fantasy land – the rest of us sane folks in the world can live in reality…..i cant imagine that grown adults actually believe that. But hey, if it makes you a better person go for it…my guess is it justifies your bigotry. Your of the ilk that thinks gay parriage was worse of a crime than slavery or genocide of the indigenous populations….if god didnt seek judgement on America during those times, why would he becasue some gay folks get married that dont hurt anyone? I never will understand what moral time of the past you long for. Serioulsy, do you think people in the 1600s-1800s were more moral than we are now?

Your guess is not based in reality. I am not of the ilk you speak. And I do not long for the past. I long for the kingdom which is to come.

This world and all that is in it is passing away. The kingdom of which I speak is a kingdom without end. And it consists not of only people like me, it consists of people from every tribe, language, people and nation. We will be a kingdom of priests to serve our God and we will rule and reign over the earth for all time to come. I can’t wait.
And BTW, in the age to come, men will be men and women will be women.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 2:59pmIt is funny how in Haldeman’s “Forever War” the government encourages homosexuality to prevent overpopulation.
Curious how the environment and population growth are the left’s biggest issues.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 3:19pmFor some reason the bible passage about Jesus spewing out lukewarm Christians just popped into my head.
Now you don’t need to be a Christian to be a Republican but I think you pretty much need to be a conservative, otherwise, why are you here? There’s already a party for progressives.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 1:21pmHow do we determine what marriage is? Is it man/woman (as I believe)? Is it 2 people? Why 2? What if it is anything we choose it to be. If it is a group of 10 who is to say that is wrong, if marriage is flexible? Marriage either has to mean something concrete or it means nothing at all. By twisting it outside of our commonly understood meaning, it then means nothing.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 4:48pm3momma – once we start marrying our pets I’m going for it! Sure, it’ll be bigamy since I’m already married, but that’ll be cool too. Why not, the term “marriage” will mean nothing.

Posted on February 20, 2013 at 1:43pmThe purpose of calling liberals like Powell ‘Republicans’ is to change the narrative. Now, anyone who is outside the new definition of a ‘Republican like Powell’ is a racist, hate-monger, radical Tea Party nut job that is a threat to all mankind.
The MSM sets the new narrative – If the Republicans are the same as Democrats – just vote Democrat. One party, one nation, one big happy Federal government handing out goodies for all!
