Parents in California Develop Effective Model for Education Reform

Parent Revolution is a California-based education reform advocacy group that provides help for parents at failing schools to demand that districts adopt policies that put the interests of children first. The group has been instrumental in the passing of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Public School Choice resolution,and California’s Parent Trigger law.

Parent Revolution National Communications Director David Phelps joined ‘Wilkow!’ Wednesday to discuss the Parent Trigger law, how their organization helps engaged parents be part of the reform process, and how the organization’s ideas are spreading nationally. This has already been tested in the courts and the parents won inspite of the teachers unions.

This will only work if all the parents can get on the same page, which is easier said than done. It will also only work if parents run the school and don’t get duped by some corporate stooge promising to save school but ends up doing nothing but padding his bank account with tax dollars. That is what is what is happening with a group of charter schools in Oakland.

It doesn’t really matter what the people try and do in California…..their courts always get involved and efforts are always ruined.
