Stories about persecution seem to be dominating international headlines of late. On Tuesday, we told you about four Christian missionaries who were arrested in Benghazi, Libya, on charges that they were proselytizing. And now, Asia News reports that Saudi Arabian officials recently detained 53 Ethiopian Christians after they were caught holding a prayer meeting in a private home.
Among the 46 women and six men taken into custody were three faith leaders who are being accused of attempting to convert Muslims to Christianity — something that is forbidden in a country that only allows for religious practice and expression associated with the Islamic faith. The incident purportedly unfolded on Feb. 8 in Dammam, the capital of Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.

Credit: AP
“We call on Saudi authorities to treat all those arrested with dignity, and release them immediately as there is apparently no evidence for any offense against them,” said Godfrey Yogarajah, executive director of the World Evangelical Alliance. “Arrest of believers for peacefully gathering for worship goes against the spirit of Saudi Arabia’s promotion of inter-religious dialogue in international fora.”
While two of the Christians who hold residency have been released, Asia News reports that the others will likely be deported. Saudi Arabia continues to crack down on religious minorities, providing little leeway for beliefs that extend beyond the Islamic realm. In its 2012 report, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom noted the lack of freedom that persists in the country.
“The Saudi government persists in banning all forms of public religious expression other than that of the government’s own interpretation of one school of Sunni Islam; prohibits churches, synagogues, temples, and other non-Muslim places of worship; uses in its schools and posts online state textbooks that continue to espouse intolerance and incite violence; and periodically interferes with private religious practice,” the report proclaims.

Feb. 21, 2013 at 5:03pmNot a lawyer, but I agree. In fact Muslims in the U.S.A. are not Americans. Islam is a supranational state with a constitution, i.e., the Qur’an is the constitution for all Muslims (“radical” or “moderate”). Muslims do not believe in our U.S. Constitution. This is the problem we are having with Obama.

In Genesis 4 it says that it was then and there that men began to ‘call their gods by the name of Jehovah’. Just because “Allah” means god does not make Allah the ‘God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ’. Quite the contrary; Allah says in the Koran he has no son. Well here we have an unresolvable problem with comparing Islam to Christianity.
As far as Syrians being free, well I suppose that is a relative term. Jesus said that knowing the truth would make one truly free indeed. The context of all this is of course the Word of God; Islam rejects the Bible as being authoritative, so by God’s definition the Syrians are not free. Since God desires that all men be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth, I’d say that the missionaries in Syria had their commission from the true God correct. If by your posts you are suggesting that the Christians follow the local laws, then the Universal Church would have never been established. Peter James and John among many other first century believers refused to follow the edicts of the Sanhedrin when told not to speak in the name of Jesus Christ. Similarly throughout the history of Europe, the Roman Catholic Church routinely used the most brutal forms of suppression to prevent any dissent from the “accepted and acceptable” way (theirs…:) I am not sure if Syria has resorted to some of the horrific methods used by the Office of the Inquisition; Rome has yet to abolish the Office of the Inquisition. I wonder why

Secondly, even if a majority did believe that, it is very obvious that a minority does not feel that way. Are you seriously implying that the rights of minorities don’t matter?

This is frankly none of our business and certainly not something our government should waste resources on. Our unjustified involvement in the affairs of other countries for the past 30 years has been a total waste of money. Investment of those same dollars and resources in the US would have brought us to a much better place. If the Christians of SA are not treated well they should either work from within to change the laws or culture or LEAVE.

Vilify them all you want-they stick to their beliefs .Its their business;i’m a christian myself but it is the right of indigenous people to not want preachers in and to not tolerate other realigious expressions. religous tolerance sounds good but over a few hundred years of it-you end up with first the marginalization then the eradictaion of religion. They are nipping that in the bud.You allow preachers in and the next thing you know they destroy your culture[[native american, philipino, hawaain etc.The whole world does not have to be comprised of secular democracies.islamic theocracies are also the will of the people[some people].Once these christians get their nose in the tent-your indigenous cultures days are numbered. As I read your response I first notice, you take the time to capialize “I” yet not God, or Christian. You see, we must make it more about Jesus, and less about us. Second… the preacher does not go seeking to destroy the culture, or, set up democracies. If you truely were a Christian, you might understand, the preacher does what he does, because of a burden for lost and miquided souls. It is about eternity, not the heare and now. The preacher is looking beyond the “here”, or as Solomon put it… “Under The Sun”. It’s about Life.
Yes? No? Do you undestand the truth and the way?

Feb. 21, 2013 at 9:54amIslam is the cult of Satan whose intention it is to dominate the world and destroy God’s beloved creation (people)…to keep them ignorant, enslaved and killing each other (after they kill off the rest of the world). They almost succeed in the year 1000 but Constantine finally stopped them. They went back under their rock. 300 years ago they began to emerge with a 300 year plan (again) for world domination. We are at the end of that 300 years now.
Our Oil $ to the Saudi’s has supported this insanity. Obama is Muslim which is why he thwarts any and all efforts for USA to become energy independent.
Obama supports Brazil’s attempts to drain this hemisphere of oil (eventually) but will do nothing to help the USA become oil-independent. Why? Because the USA is the big prize for these murdering, blood-thirsty demonic possessions of Satan. They have no freedom to leave their cult but many are quietly being converted. They have spawned so much evil in this world that all one has to do is study even the slightest bit of history to know that NOTHING in the Islamic ‘faith’ has ANYTHING to do with the GOD of ABRAHAM, ISAAC and JACOB.
Each American has to be made aware of the Islamic dastardly plots against us. Read: THEY MUST BE STOPPED by Brigette Gabriel (or visit her website on line). This is the final Struggle. Spoiler Alert: JESUS RETURNS/GOD WINS!

1-A drop in the bucket compared to the amount of oil the world uses, therefore not going to make a dent in world oil prices.
2-Even if it comes to the US for processing, it will go on the world oil market. This is not going to reduce the price you pay at the pump.
While I would like to see us move to a post-oil world economy, I am not against Canadian oil production. Let’s just not be in favor of it for the wrong reason. The best interests of US citizens and oil companies are quite different.
