Texas Teacher Reportedly Threatens to Give Students Zeros on Homework Assignment for Writing About Guns
Earlier this week in Denton, Texas, the First Amendment seems to have been compromised by a few high school essays that mentioned the Second one.
High School seniors at Denton High School were given a simple assignment in their English class: Write a paragraph about something you did over the weekend. There was no additional direction on topics for the essay. However, a few students who wrote about guns, including attending a gun show or going to shop for a gun, were told that they would be given a zero on the assignment if they did not change what they were writing about.
The teacher, Mr. Dewey Christian, reportedly told the students that the topic was unacceptable.
Denton High School senior Alex Wright explained what happened to him:
“Mr. Christian said I want you all to write a paper, write about a fun experience you had… a nice experience. … So I said, me and my mom went to Cabella’s to buy a gun. As soon as he heard the word “gun,” he told me to sit down.”
Marshall Williams, another student in the class who was given the option of a zero on the assignment or a rewrite, told about going to the Fort Worth Gun Show – something he has posted on his Facebook page:

In the comments section of Williams’ Facebook of this photo he posted the following;
Today I held both the guns used in Aurora and at Sandy Hook Elementary.Β Contrary to popular belief, everyone in my vicinity did not die.
Classmates reportedly laughed at the students after their papers were rejected based solely on their subject matter.
Williams and his mother Kimberly visited the school on Monday and confronted Mr. Christian, recording the conversation with a cell phone camera:
After speaking with the teacher, Kimberly Williams and her son were not satisfied and demanded an apology. KDFW-TV that the school district and Dewey Christian sort of apologized. Marshall Williams says that the apology is not yet satisfactory.

Image: MyFoxDFW
The news outlet also reports that the school district claimed:
“The teacher’s intent was for guns not to be trivialized in any school situation because of recent events.”
After hearing the school district’s response, Marshall Williams replied:
“I don’t feel like I’ve gotten an apology yet. I feel like he has just stomped on our right to free speech. He told us we would not be allowed to express ourselves and didn’t even consider what we had said.Β He didn’t have a clue of the content of my paper before he told meβ¦ he just knew that my paper was about guns before he told me that I would be getting a zero on the assignment.”
Calls and emails from TheBlaze to Mr. Christian have gone unanswered.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isnβt really about controlling guns at all; itβs about controlling us. It will not surprise me if a pro-gun teacher doesn’t rat out the system buy saying he was “instructed” to teach an anti-gun program to students. I hope that from now on every student that has to write for this nitwit has a pro-gun theme to their writing.

While there the whole group of us spent a few days on an IDF base and were trained to fire M-16s. This was a gun capable of automatic fire (we only used semi) and we each got to fire ten shots at an actual military shooting range.
But if cours I went to private school.

In my junior year I brought a 30 cal carbine with a loaded 30 round clip for a show and tell assignment for English Comp. I took it down and put it back together while explaining how it was done. I could have shot the whole class plus the teacher and would have 1 round left but I got an A for the assignment so I did not shoot anyone.
Oh, I also took the Public Service Bus to school with the gun in a paper bag with the barrel sticking out so everyone who saw me all day knew I was carrying an assault rifle.

After shootings or any type of school crimes/incidents, it might be understandable to be sensitive and aware about similar subjects. But if that was the reason the teacher or school officials reacted the way they did, then why did they not let the students finish reading their reports so they could have 1. Gotten a better more respectful idea what the papers were about 2. Noticed if there was anything REALLY alarming about the reports that needed a metting with the parents. ?
Instead of just something grown boys and girls have done with their families and honorable nice good friends for 100 plus years.

The Branch Davidans were burned to death by the government while they were in their Church and School. I don’t remember many people being sesitive and aware about similar subject matter after that happened. FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi testified in open court that he saw Vicki Weaver in his scope and fired anyway. In fact, he murdered her. I don’t remember many people being sesitive and aware about similar subject matter after that happened.
I don’t beleve that the First Amendment says …abriding the freedom of speech except for a period of time after something bad happens. Many people also try and convince us that the Second Amendment says …shall not be infringed except for firearms that are really scary looking. Public schools and parents seem to have done a lousy job of teaching freedom and liberty. People are willing to give them up on a whim!

As a person who has taught in an IB program for 18 years, I would suggest that you look at the specific curriculum choices made by the faculty, rather than the program itself. I primarily teach history of warfare in the 20th century, and the cold war, with a strong emphasis on the failures of international organizations to be an effective tool for protecting the peace, and the U.S. national interest. And critical thinking skills. The program is what the faculty choose to make of it.

The following Monday I brought the rifle to school, repaired the stock in shop class and left the rifle there over night for the glue to dry. The next day, I carried the repaired rifle through the school on my way to the school bus. On the ride home, all the guys handled the rifle, examining my repair job.
Not one teacher, not the bus driver, not one parent, complained that I’d assaulted their child, threatened a teacher or attempted to take over the bus and drive us all to Mexico for winter break. Nor did any fellow students complain about how frightened they were by the rifle.
Until now. Most those same students are now liberal wussy communist/socialist democrats trying to disarm all Americans.

Many Conservatives/Republicans are beginning to flee these states. We can’t do this. If we change our demographics to states with fewer electoral college values, we will lose a lot of elections. Liberals have been doing this for a very long time. That is why we are seeing more Dems win.
Unfortunately, two states are beyond hope, CA and NY. These are cesspools beyond repair. Everywhere else is redeemable.

Five county sheriffs in NY have already produced statements to the effect that they will not enforce unconstitutional laws or allow others to do so. More are sure to follow. While it is an uphill battle to push back against the liberal NYC vote, there has been a major conservative movement in Ny and a backlash is definitely brewing. Even if outnumbered by liberals, with 19.5 million residents, there are more conservatives in New York State than in most others. So, maybe before dividing Americans by geographic location, you could talk to someone who knows something.

Law abiding citizens are NOT the problem. The problem is whack jobs getting guns. The problem is teaching children that if they have a beef with someone, picking up a gun is not the answer. Criminals do not obey laws.
It is okay if you don’t like guns, but don’t deny others the ability to have them as long as they follow the law. If they break the law, their will be consequences.

How? Use pre-planned empty sentence patterns (the dark side of all those sentence grammar trees they used to make us do in school), so that regardless of what each of wrote about, each paper would have the exact same sentence structure, sentence for sentence. That way, only the topic would be different and so would be his reaction, depending on his personal views. The students in this guy’s class could still do that to him and probably get away with it. Just make sure some students write about his pet topics and others write in positive terms about his pet peeves.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:41amFor over twelve years of their life, from the age of six to eighteen, children in America and around the world attend a local school where they supposedly are equipped with the tools necessary to attend college and get a career. But how pure is the knowledge provided by their textbooks? Textbook propaganda is a tool that has been used since the invention of the printing press by communist dictators and democrat capitalists to mold the thoughts of a child into the goals of the state.
Of all the propaganda artists of the years, no one is better known the Adolf Hitler. The leader of Nazi Germany saturated schools, government, and in every part of life with propaganda. “Give me the youth, and Germany will rule the World” he was once quoted saying- a saying that is far too true. The mind of a child is can be imprinted like a gosling and acquire the learned behaviors and attitudes of authority. Thus brainwashed, they become part of the dominant culture. Like the Spartans of ancient Greece, Hitler used this fact to his advantage, taking German boys away from their families and turning them into loyal soldiers who informed on their parents’ loyalties. With this strong backbone of support, aided by his skillful public speaking skills, Hitler was able to amass an army to conquer Europe.
“Let me control the textbooks and I will control the state. The state will take youth and give to youth its own education and its own upbringing. Your child belongs to us already..what are you

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:47amNot all Texas teachers are like this weasel Mr. Christian. My sister, a Texas teacher, is about as conservative as they come. Albeit, she is so fed up with the system and the self-serving administrators in her district that she is about to throw in the towel and call it a day.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:23amAT the end of the news clip, the talking head says basically that the school year is almost over so maybe the guys should just be quiet and not make anymore waves.
That’s it, encourage total compliance without question. just go along to get along. Nice way to keep the sheeple in line, twit. I wonder how the “news reporter” would have covered the story had it been some liberal-leaning student being censored by a conservative teacher on any other topic like, say, abortion or the joys of jihad. Don’t think we need to spell it out, do we?

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:13amAnd it will get worse and worse-all the little lib tyrants will be doing this and more. Good for the parent for getting involved and not just letting the son get the shaft after writing what he had done that was fun-FOR HIM. Guess they will be telling the kids what kind of ice crean is going to be their new favorite too. I so hate what is going on. Parents, take back your school boards, fight to get people who believe in the constitution on the boards. It is up to you.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:25amThere are perfectly legitimate concerns parents have about techers (like the one in this story) and there are are completely imbecilic complaints from idiot parents – like this one:

Parents like Kimberly Williams should be praised while the lady on my link above need to be ridiculed for their stupidity.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:13amDewey Christian is apparently another Bill Ayes groupie, paid to indoctrinate your kids with anti-American BS, and eager to intimidate them when they don’t toe the line. Do to him what he would do to your kids if they didn’t toe the line. Give him a zero, and get rid of him.

Get ready for far more folks. Interesting thing is that this was in Texas. What did the teacher THINK students were going to write about? Gun talk down there is probably in the top 5 conversational items. Sheesh.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:11amI thought this type of BS only happened here in California.
Just remember, if you want your children to have a good education, you need to raise taxes and pay the teachers more money. They deserve it. Just look at the Los Angeles Unified School District. They gave the teachers a raise and now the high school graduation rate went from 50% to 51%.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:58amPutting more money in the schools doesn’t work. It has been tried repeatedly. Compare cost per student in different areas, the $ do NOT always match up with the test scores. The whole no child left behind standardized testing crap was to tell the unions : We know you are hosing us, but at least teach the kids !!
Check the prices on private schools, and you may find that they cost less per student than the “free” schools, the quality is better and there is more parental control. Unfortunately not everyone can afford to pay twice for their kids education ( 1x taxes, 2nd time out of pocket).
There are ways to fix the problem, but they would involve giving up government control…. which was the whole point of a federal department of education, right? I won’t say it could never happen… but I won’t hold my breath.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 6:09pmyou could confiscate every cent that every working person in the country made and give it to schools and you would would NOT get any better education system or graduation rate!!!! It’ like pouring money into an old car and expecting it to work like a new one … you just need to realize that your old Rambler is never going to work right and there is a VERY VALID reason why they stopped making Ramblers in 1969!!! No one liked them, no one wanted to drive one, they never worked right, they were dominated by commie union “workers” who also refused to work … so people went elsewhere to get transportation … when parents realize their kids are being sacrificed in this same system in public schools and take their kids elsewhere to be educated the same thing will happen to those commie indoctrination centers we now call public schools and when that happens this country will be the better for it!!! If I have to sell every thing I own, none of my grandchildren will ever set foot in a public school!!!!

Guns won our freedom,Guns fed our people, guns guard our borders, they defend citizens, they fight oppression,GUN ARE THE ONLY REASON WE ARE FREE MEN IN THIS NATION. This liberal do_che doesn’t belong in a classroom he should be allowed to teach as his idea of teaching is bestowing his ideology onto students. And punishing those that don’t accept it.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:10amThe indoctrination of our children is no longer subvert. It is blatant and in the public eye now. They have gone far enough that they believe they can continue boldly, ruining the work ethic and morals of the future generations. Brainwashing them into thinking that the government is the source of all good.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:09amThe teacher is a fascist. That’s what happens when you belong to the NEA. The “teacher” is not only taking a dumb on the second amendment, but also the first. Public schools are cesspools of indoctrination and substandard poor quality personnel. They should be the LAST resort to educate your children. The goal of the public system is not to educate children but to turn out docile subjects, ignorant slaves that will buy the politburo’s BS hook line and sinker.

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 11:05amWell, Texas is becoming quite blue, so it’s no surprise. If you want liberty, go to a state that respects it as a whole. Texas has some nice communities, but it’s getting to the point that it’s only communities, not the state as a whole. Sorry Glenn, you’ve been sold a bill of goods. You should have moved to Utah, or Wyoming, or South Dakota, or Idaho. Now you’re left pimping for a state that is day by day acting more and more like NY.
The kid in the article is bad @ss cool, great way to demonstrate his point. :)

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 2:45pmTexas is not becoming blue. Texas WAS blue and turned red. Urban areas like Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and El Paso, as well as the Rio Grande Valley have always been blue. The difference is there is a large Rural Population that is red, and that is not going to change. Beck wasn’t duped, he knew what he was getting into…

Posted on February 21, 2013 at 3:53pmUm, I lived in Texas in the mid 1980′s. Didn’t seem very blue at the time. When do you believe it was “blue”? It’s getting bluer by the day if I understand reports correctly from Texans I know. Help a fellow out here, give me some info.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 11:39amSan Antonio is becoming bluer because the Doublemint Twins essentially have mob rule and turning us into a de facto sanctuary city. In fact, the keynote speaker for this year’s Joint Base San Antonio Annual Awards is none other than Mayor Obamalite.
The suburbs surrounding SA, once fine farmland, are being bled into. Also, because the libs from CA and NY have fled their high-tax areas for a more business-friendly state. Unfortunately, they brought their bass-ackwards politics with them and are polluting our state.
