Whole Foods Pulls Chicken Ad Featuring Obama Drawing

A Whole Foods Market in New York pulled an advertisement that used a drawing of President Barack Obama to hawk chicken after complaints that it was offensive, WNBC-TV reported.

The hand-drawn sign for the Whole Foods in Manhattan’s Upper West Side was promoting a one-day Friday sale for $1.99 organic chicken. In it, an angry-looking Obama appears to be shouting the lower price.

Neighbor Woody Henderson told the station he was outraged by the sign.

“There are certain things that have been used to put down black people — watermelon, fried chicken,” Henderson said.

Jason Nunez of the Bronx was similarly dismayed, saying: “Even if he’s not the president, you’re going to have an African-American promoting the sale of chicken? They can do better than that.”

Not everyone took issue with it.

“Obviously it looks like the president, but I don’t think it’s racist,” Joseph Joshua told WNBC.

A spokesman for the upscale supermarket chain told the station that store artists use a many different pop culture images to promote store sales and events. He said the sign was put up earlier in the week but removed “once it was brought to our attention by a shopper that it may be perceived as offensive.”

“There was no disrespect meant at all,” the spokesman said.

It’s worth noting that Whole Foods Market CEO John Mackey made headlines last month when he described President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul as “fascism.”

    Funny. Not surprised that the super PC, Lefty, Green, Whole Foods/ Subaru / Prius crowd would be offended . The rest of us see Big Brother radical Obama as the populist , angry propaganda hawker that he is. At least he wasn’t portrayed as telling the customers to buy a certain color of chicken meat !? ( can you believe how silly the Obama / Far Left Democrats use of the Race Card has made the American media and the people ?! Where’s Shotgun Joe on this issue ? )

      I’m very conservative, drive a Subaru and shop at Whole Foods weekly. I look at this as free advertising. I knew nothing about their sale on chicken, but I’ll be going tomorrow to get that great deal.

      Actually, I have seen the Whole Foods CEO in the news quite a bit lately saying how ANTI- business the Obama administration is and how their policies are killing Capitalism! Pretty shocking in a PC world! I will be throwing more of my grocery dollars their way!!

      It is well pictured the character of our bullier president, who likes to play as an authoritarian figure, make scare stupid people, and like to stretch popular imagination recite fake stories for the press to enhance and repeat… and Yes of course if an incredible cheap price for the chicken… and Whole Foods care of been organic and nice treatments of animals. The CEO is an amazing good and brave person and the company is one our best market!!! People finding racist this poster are obviously racist themselves; these are the people who like this nightmare of racism and warfare this president created in America not because his skin color but because he is an extreme leftist, a progressive full of resentment, avid to control everything and everyone to impose his convictions….

      Used to be a racist was someone who discriminated against someone because of their race (like what blacks do to whites all the time today), but now racism has morphed into anything that doesn’t support Marxism or socialism or gun control.       Nabisco Oreo’s are racist.

      Just look at that cookie. It has two “Black” cookies squishing a “White” creme center. If that’s not a racist dog whistle – there never was such a thing. Look folks – the cookie provides twice the blackness yet everyone’s favorite part is the “white” center. That’s racist to the core. To top it all off, everyone’s favorite thing to do with the “black” (dries your mouth cookies) is to dip them into the “White” milk to make them easy to swallow.

    Well since The Blaze ran the story, you can bet that black folk are not raising a stink! The owner of KFC and Popeye’s are both white. So with that being said, if your not native American, take your racist white ass and get back to where you came from.

      I agree. I think unflattering depictions of obama make the left angry regardless of how cheap the chicken is. 1.99 is an incredible deal!
      Still, even though the picture is not great…at least it’s not obama looking like a monkey or hitler. Really they should have thicker skin by now.

      My family loves my fried chicken, and darned if we don’t like watermelon too. So are we allowed to eat it? Well I actually do not give a flying fig what anyone else says I can and can’t eat. All these “secret racist buzzwords” we are supposed to be using is just plain nuts, and I for one will not be being”PC” anytime soon. Every race and people can just get the heck over themselves as far as I’m concerned. This garbage is all made up by the people who want to lead other people around by the nose. It’s added and abbeted by the stupid news idiots. Starting with Jesse Jackson they can all take a hike. As my late Dad said-Phooey on ‘em.

      Dam……….my mammy didn’t tell me we were black, cause we all love our fried chicken & watermelons.
      Ok proof positive, my skin color is so so, but why do I love black eyed peas & cornbread and all the things that aren’t supposed to be foods I eat?
      I know for sure I”m not green……my son tells me I drive a Prius because I”m cheap. I pay attention to overheating the house to save energy, but I’m still not GREEN. God made this world and I doubt if us living here makes that much difference. Gonna have to go have a talk with my momma.

      Black folks must be treated with kid gloves. They are to be held no more responsible for things they do as you would any 4 or 5 year old child. We must put them in the same category as a child or mentally challenged individual. We must not ever criticize a black person as that would be just like criticizing a mentally challenged child. We must give them an extra boost to help them get a job or get into higher education as they are not capable on their own merits.

    Why can’t the image of a black man eating or selling chicken or watermelons be just that, selling a product?
    There is nothing racist in the image of the president and chicken; although if I saw Obama (or his image) hawking food at an establishment…I would take my business somewhere else.

      This ironic thing about the rage about images of humans whose ancestors evolved in Africa being seen to endorse eating whole organic chickens is that the only people who eat whole organic chickens are European or Asian evolved. Humans whose ancestors evolved in Africa typically purchase factory-raised chickens that are cleaned, cut into pieces, dipped in batter, and fried in oil until golden brown, labor performed by others. Typically the packaging preferred by humans whose ancestors evolved in Africa includes side orders of carbohydrates saturated in more oils and a sugar soda with the entire thing being ordered without many words.
