Exclusive: Beck’s Blunt Response to Invitation From WWE to Appear on ‘Raw’

Glenn Beck addressed the WWE on his radio show this week (TheBlaze)
Glenn Beck has given TheBlaze his response to an invitation from World Wrestling Entertainment to appear on Monday Night Raw live in Dallas next week: “Unfortunately, I am currently booked doing anything else.”
Beck and the WWE have directed comments at each other over the past week after the wrestling organization introduced two Tea Party-inspired characters, “Jack Swagger” and “Zeb Colter.”
The WWE first extended an invitation to Beck through a statement Friday after the radio host criticized the new characters on his show Wednesday for depicting tea partiers as racially insensitive villains, in turn “demonizing the Tea Party.” Beck went on to question the WWE’s motives when portraying the Tea Party this way, noting his belief that most wrestling fans are likely not progressives.
“Maybe that’s the way WWE people view the Tea Party. And maybe they love to hate the Tea Party. But I have to tell you, I expect that from Hollywood, but I don’t expect ‑‑ if I’m getting my entertainment from somebody that I think is on my side ‑‑ and I’m sorry, I just don’t see a bunch of progressives going and buying their tickets to the WWE. Do you?” Beck posited Wednesday.
“I mean, and maybe there are. I tend to notice that the progressives are not as popular in the South unless they’ve moved from the North. So I’m just trying to figure out exactly who they’re trying to appeal here, who they’re appealing to.”

WWE Performers Address Glenn Beck in New Video (YouTube)
In a video released on the official WWE YouTube page Friday evening, the wrestlers broke character to address Beck and his comments. After first calling out Swagger’s upcoming WrestleMania opponent in a cartoonish minute-and-a-half promo, performers Wayne Keown (Colter) and Jake Hager (Swagger) address Beck directly to clarify that they are not political commentators, rather entertainers.
“We aren’t in the political business, or the immigration business. We are in the entertainment business,” Keown says. He goes on to list the size and demographics of the WWE audience, and the reasoning behind the storylines of characters like Colter and Swagger.
“We have about 60 characters on our show — a lot more than say NCIS or Glee — but we’re not that much different. Some of our characters are really likable and some are detestable — good guys and bad guys,” Keown says. “We don’t use guns, and we don’t depict murder or rape, typically seen on primetime dramas. Our program is PG.”
“Many of your followers are WWE fans and they understand the difference between reality and entertainment,” Keown adds.
“Are you out of touch with your audience Glenn? Or are you just a ‘stupid political commentator?’”
At the end of the video, Keown invites Beck once again to appear on Raw in Dallas Monday, and after Friday’s video, says the radio host can deliver a five-minute, unedited rebuttal to their global television audience and a sold-out crowd.
Watch the video message from Keown/Colter and Hager/Swagger to Glenn Beck below:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 3:03amI liked wrestling better when you had characters like Sgt. Slaughter (who were patriotic) and The Sheik (the bad guy.) Those were the days that being patriotic was cool, not a sin. Back then you rooted for the good guys and hated the bad guys. Today’s “wrestling” is full of PC and dumb story lines.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 4:03amEvidently these guys are idiots. Glenn’s point was to show that you are playing a part that shows the tea party as though it was racist. You are fraud dude and should be ashamed of yourself for playing a part of a lie. There is a reason why you are making the character out to be a member of the tea party and at the same time a racist. Posted on February 23, 2013 at 4:38amI find the WWE’s pursuit of advancing and holding up negative stereotypes as extremely poor conduct, as bad as portraying guns, murder or rape. Anyone on the right does that and there is INSTANT vilification, but I guess it is “aw-raht fo you good ‘ol boys”. See, not nice when I do it either, spell check is offended. And “Colter”? Really? Like Ann Coulter? Are they expecting or insinuating their audience too stupid to know the difference? They are spreading hate in a beyond “PG” manner.
Also, Is anyone else seeing that our federal Government is beginning to look a lot like the WWE? The fiscal cliff (hanger) and the sequester all have good potential for a Congressional “Monday Night Raw” weekly showdown. Laughable, really, but are we that far removed form Rome? Hmmmm?

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 5:31amBack in the 60s there was a professional wrestler that lived on my street. He went by the name of Skandor Ackbar. He was supposed to be a mean Arab/Muslim. However in real life his name was Jimmy Wehba. He was a Palestinian catholic that had come to America to pursue his faith in Christ.
When I was a child I was on my death bed. Back then, they just sent you home to die. I remember Jmmy coming in my room and he was probably 20 years old. I was about 7. He brought a signed picture of hinself and sat and talked to me and prayed for me. I was a fan of Mr. Webha even though he played a bad guy….I knew different… To this day I will say his charitable act to me saved my life. He always had kids around the neighborhood in droves and we loved “Skandor” no matter what because of his kind heart and love to everyone. I got to meet a lot of wrestlers, many were phenomenal men….
Yes these guys are nisportraying the Tea Party.I assure you many of these men are charitable good men in real life. They look at this as a way to feed their family. They really need to just be taught about conviction, That is what many people do NOT understand. These guys are saying “I do this to keep a job”.
Glenn, you have to go talk to them and tell them that TRUTH outweighs MONEY and lies. Even if it is an act by an actor it is wrong. I think the reason Jimmy “Skandor” knew it and that is why he was so kind.in real life. I miss him very much to this day. His kindness undid the evil h

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 7:59amWWE is part of the whole entertainment industry. They are not just there to entertain, they are also there to indoctrinate. I literally believe that had we never had an MTV, we could never have a President Obama. MTV educated and indoctrinated the masses.
Comdedy showes like John Stewart are no different. It was originally designed for entertainment, but has taken on the role of indoctrinator. For those under the age of 30, many get their “news” from John Stewart. The MSM, Hollywood, MTV…. gets to declare who is cool, and who is not. Face it, if you are with a younger crowd, they would pipe up loud and proud about watching John Stewart, but they would whisper if mentioning Rush or Glen.
WWE is entertainment for low information voters our of the trailer parks. If they can indoctrinate them that the tea party is bad, then they will.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 8:28amI am a big fan of Glenn. I watch his radio program and his television program on satellite. I agree with him about 90% of the time, but he’s getting a dose of his own medicine on this one so to speak. One of my main issues with him has been his denegrating southernors in EXACTLY the same way hollywood and east coast elites do. When they want to affect an idiot they use a southern persona and accent. I have heard Glenn Beck himself do this. I am sensitive to it because it drives me crazy. I’m a proud 4th generation Texan and I feel no need to change my Texas accent (twang) to convince people I’m not an idiot. They ARE the idiots, they have fallen for Hollywood and northeastern elitist propaganda to denegrate southernors.. Glenn, I love you man…but you were in New York too long and infected with the elitist snobbery that looks down on southernors…STOP affecting a southern accent when you are making a point about an idiot. How about a New York accent complete with “Youse guys”. These wrestler idiots are doing the same thing…they want to invent a redneck, hick, teaparty character complete with southern accent…..I’ve heard Glenn do the SAME thing on his radio program (minus the teaparty part), but affecting a redneck, hick persona complete with southern accent to get aross a message from any idiot whether they are southern or not—STOP IT!!!

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 9:22amIf the WWE was smart and was truly apolitical they would play both sides with equal zeal.
Fine have a few Tea Party Patriot Characters, but also have a couple of Big Goverment Characters led by a manager that looks like Obama. When Big Goverment comes out with a big fanfare have a few plants in the audience. The Big Goverment characters can shake down the plants and take all of their money, then give them a free cellphone.
The audience would howl! The fights between the 2 groups would likely be the most watched, and if promoted right would draw in more people.
But no…like Hollywood, the WWE is out of touch. They will instead make fun of the Tea Party, and consider Obama, his cabinet, and progressive views as sacrosanct.
Let’s see how this plays out for them.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 8:54pmI’ve been a fan of wrestling for…well…longer than I care to admit.
Folks…these guys are actors/entertainers first, followed closely by being athletes. They are playing a role given to them by their directors and producers. Some, by virtue of being around long enough and/or their popularity, have more of a say in their roles than others. If John Cena doesn’t want to play a particular role, I’m pretty sure he won’t be pressed. I doubt that Jack Swagger is in that same rareified atmosphere.
I don’t know the politics of the McMahons, though I suspect, having read books by some of their more prominent employees, that they would be the typical sort of Republicans you find in Connecticut- center-left moderates. Those are exactly the sort of Republicans that are most likely to believe the MSM’s negative spin towards the Tea Party, because it is more of an Elitist versus the Great Unwashed thing than it is actually about ideology. It is sad because I would be very surprised if their fan base doesn’t skew heavily towards the Right and they do risk alienating them. But the McMahons are nothing if not willing to admit mistakes (remember when Bill Gunn of D-X was suddenly supposed to be gay? that didn’t last long and the change was due to fan outcry), so, if there is enough blowback, Mr. Swagger will be recast. And soon.
I do wish that Glenn would accept the invitation because I think he would be given a fair hearing.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 11:11pmI encourage everyone to watch the video. You may see the difference between politics and entertainment, something Glenn Beck knows as well as anyone, rodeo clown that he proclaims himself to be. The guy was surprisingly well spoken. This is a loser issue for Beck and I imagine he’ll drop it as soon as he can.
Seriously though, what I don’t get is why you guys are offended by this. I read here every day people talking about “we the people, don’t tread on me, send all the Mexican back to Mexico, build a 2000 mile fence on our southern border and electrify it and shoot anyone who crosses.” This guy hasn’t said a single thing I haven’t read here 500 times, or that southern politicians haven’t said. So what’s the problem? If you can give me one single thing this guy has said that you haven’t or that a politician such as Sarah Palin has said, PLEASE POST IT HERE. And when you do I’ll google and prove you wrong.
I’m developing a theory though, and hope some of you Tea Party types will correct me. My theory is that when you hear an actor, knowing he’s an actor, repeat back to you the things you say and believe, it seriously jerks your chain. If one of you were to same thing as this wrestler, you would cheer him on, but knowing it’s a money making act really bothers you. It’s weird but that’s the best I can make of it.
What’s your explanation?

It inspired this poem:
Beck, Beck, he’s so hot,

Is that a circus,
Is that a clown,
whaz up with that, is that a frown?

because Latinos are in town,
I’d rather listen to the DJ,

Don’t Touch This?
Beck, Beck, he’s so hot,
giving you all, he’s got,
better the band of Death,
singing the Ovum,
Don’t look back, we’re still roaming,
like a globe trotter, getting hot,
think we figure out the plot,
it’s not about Latinos in America,
it’s about a dude missing his fishing hat?
Where its at?
That Fishing Hat?
Where its at?
Listen to Beck’s he’s where its at,
hes got a tv station and a microphone,
Beck is where its at,
he’s got a tv station and a microphone,
they leaving Mexico, calling usa home,
it’s too late to push the hate,
because pilgrims determined their fate,
when all immigrants have to do is wait,
not cross the border for compensate?
So the media wants to cash in,
on joking us,
meanwhile regulations choke the fuss,
That makes Glenn Beck sound like DMX,
what is the issue up in here, up in here?

they can’t even get in the fight,

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 12:54amThis is wrestling, and there have been many tactics used to sell agendas and story lines. Del Rio was sold as a rich, Mexican, spoiled brat, for years…and recently turned from ‘heel’ to ‘hero’. It is funny, because while the script has changed, many of the fans still boo’d him.
Nothing was really working to stop the booing, so they had to do something to make him look good. The tactic? To bring back ‘Jack Swagger’, who has been a ‘heal’ off and on for years, and bring a ‘manager’ to even make the fans hate him more, so Del Rio will be liked more.
Now, I just fast forward, because the story line is bogus as far as putting up the Gadsden Flag. And if they really wanted a story line, they would put a ‘hero’ with this flag…and a ‘heal’ with OWS standing.
In the past, fans have rejected story lines that WWE tried to pass off, cheering the ‘heal’…or who they were trying to make the heal.
To be honest, the value of this as entertainment to me, has gone way down over the years. If WWE was smart, they would bring Linda McMahon in, once to share the truth behind this flag, and reprimand the ‘manager’. Then have some new wrestler with both the American flag and Gadsden Flag in tow, to show the truth…but this is the value of ‘truth’ and ‘entertainment’ these days.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 5:45amYou are right sir. The portrayal of the Tea Party is FALSE. The problem truly lies in the fact that someday these guys will become the “good guys” and people will root and cheer for them and cheer for them and bring the FALSE stereotype to be popular. Now that would be a real shame because the Tea Party is not like these guys at all…They are evil. But rest assured that one day they will be “good guys” in the script….Making RACISTS the heroes will be coming soon…I assure you we do not want our kids to see that!!!
Watch…If Glenn does not straighten this out, The Tea Party will soon be painted as abunch of racist, patriotic good guys that people will love and not hate because that is how the story line goes as soon as these guys become popular. You will see RACIST being portrayed as great patriotic men! I see it coming to an arena near you in a few months…GUARANTEE IT!

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 10:18pmtruthnstuff – how can you say they stopped doing patriotic after Sgt Slaughter if you stopped watching it? Fact of the matter is, if you had been watching it you’d know that they have done patriotic characters since then. Right off the top of my head I can name Kurt Angle and Hulk Hogan. Angle’s character has been patriotic from day one, whether he was a face or a heel and Hogan did a stint in 2003 as a patriotic masked wrestler named Mr. America on Smackdown in 2003. More recently, although not overtly patriotic, John Cena has been openly, and demonstrably supportive of American military troops and their families on WWE programming. And again, although not overtly patriotic, but displaying his patriotism on a regular basis on air, there is John “Bradshaw” Layfield on commentary every week. BTW, try listening to Layfield’s commentary when Colter and Swagger are on. Even he, as a heel commentator, states on his commentary that THEY (the characters) believe in what they’re saying and in America they have the right to speak their views, but HE does NOT agree with them. Do you understand that? WWE has a heel commentator saying on air that the heel characters of Swagger and Colter are wrong. People who watch WWE know this and understand they’re balancing the message on air. What really irks me about this whole affair is people who openly admit they don’t watch WWE, yet seem to “know” so much more about it than WWE fans who do watch it faithfully every week.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 12:01amI love it, “I will be busy doing anything else”. As they break character and try to challenge him, but in the video, if they really did break character, why weren’t they wearing their pink tutu’s and Gimp masks?

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 11:58pmWhy is Glenn suddenly so sensitive about people trying to make the Tea Party look like racists? He did it himself on Fox News, no less. Don’t believe it? See it for yourself:

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 2:00amNewt is and always been a big government progressive. He is responsible for much of the big gov policies in the last thirty years. For crying out loud he helped bring about the dept of education, I mean non-education. Newt just knows the right words to say to conservatives. Don’t actually look at what he’s done. Just say contract for America and conservatives bow. Freaking crazy. He can deliver a word salad like nobody’s business but small government guy he’s not. I shared Glenn’s incredulity at the fact people couldn’t see he was exactly opposite of what he presented himself as which was his point in the above video.
And Soy, Newt couldn’t win the primary, hence why he dropped out. But if he had, outcome is the same. Mother Teresa would have lost to O.

Romney is a much bigger progressive than Newt (Romneycare, gun bans, pro abortion, etc). Romney even called himself a progressive. He said that he is a republican in name only. He actually said that.
Glenn had a motive for trashing Newt, just as he had a motive for endorsing two fringe candidates (Bachman and Santorum) that he knew had no chance of winning because they only appeal to the bible-thumping wing of the republican party (Glenn’s base). He endorsed them so that he could, after they dropped out, endorse Romney and save face with his base. He supported Romney the whole time. Glenn is a shill for the establishment.
Glenn also had a motive for calling the tea party racist, just as he has a motive for calling himself a libertarian and then calling libertarians “Nazis”.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 8:45amMike,
You’re an idiot. Glenn was pointing out the inconsistency in opposing a progressive Obama and supporting a progressive Gingrich. He was pointing out that the glaring inconsistency would give fuel to the racism charges against the Tea Party.
Apparently, your intellect is incapable of discerning the difference between making a flat-out statement, and pointing out an either-or scenario. M O R O N!

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 6:21pmDissentnnow- A He used to support abortion, he doesn’t now. Gun bans on assault rifles (which I don’t agree with) is still different than banning all guns. Also romney would not support it on a federal level. He was doing it for Mass which is what the people wanted. I live in Mass I know. Also, where is that vid that Romney says he is a progressive. Im no huge fan of him but lets get our facts straight. He isn’t nearly as bad as Obama.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 7:53amSo, what you’re saying is that he was pro-abortion, pro-gun ban, and pro-Romneycare when he was running for state office but now that he is running for national office he magically became pro-life, pro-gun, and against the healthcare legislation that he and his staff helped to create? That doesn’t sound like leadership to me. That sounds like a progressive that will say and do anything to get elected. It also sounds like you’re making excuses for him.
Also, i’m from Mass, as well.
