On his radio talk show this morning, Glenn Beck expressed outrage at Vice President Joe Biden’s comment Thursday that “no law abiding citizen” should worry about infringement of their “constitutional rights,” should new gun control laws be implemented.
“Is there anybody in within the sound of my voice that is a Democrat?” Beck asked. Do you at least have the common decency to be embarrassed by [Biden]? Seriously. You may not want to come out and disagree with his policies. Do you have the decency to be embarrassed by this?”
Beck argued that “law abiding” citizens, by definition, don’t worry about their rights. “It is the criminals that worry about their constitutional rights,” he said. “I don’t think there’s a criminal that even knows about their constitutional rights until they are arrested and thrown in jail.”
Biden has emerged as the leading voice on gun control, just behind President Obama. On Thursday, speaking 10 miles from Newtown, Conn., where 20 children were shot dead, Biden admonished members of Congress to support stricter gun controls, saying “if you’re concerned about your political survival, you should be concerned about the survival of our children. And guess what? I believe the price to be paid politically will be to those who refuse to act.”
He added, “Let me say it now, in front of the press: No law abiding citizen in the United States of America has any fear that their constitutional rights would be infringed in any way. None. Zero.”
Earlier this week during an online town hall meeting, Biden told one woman she doesn’t “need an AR-15″ semi-automatic weapon for self-defense. He said anyone wanting to own a gun for protection should “buy a shotgun.”
Beck said Biden makes him feel “ashamed of my country. And I am embarrassed by it.”

Feb. 22, 2013 at 4:48pmIf you are going to pass legislation restricting/regulating something, why not start with the things insurance companies are concerned about? I worked in an insurance office, and premiums were raised for swimming pools, not guns on the premises… and our office would not even insure a house with a backyard trampoline. If you are going to require that someone have a million dollars of liability insurance to have a gun, then you should require at least as much or more for someone who has a swimming pool.
Put additional regulation on backyard trampolines, and inspect them to be sure that the netting around the outside has not been removed or torn. Backyard trampolines will be easier to inspect than the guns locked in a gun safe in someone’s closet. They are visible at a distance. Follow up with a search warrant if suspicious. Children end up in the ER, and sometimes die or have serious injury from bouncing off one of those things and landing badly. Someone can stand up and say we must do this for the children…
I am being sarcastic, but someone is taking this kind of thing seriously.
At what point do we say – This is MY house! MY life! Run your own life, not mine.

When they came out with the BS defense of him, all/any remaining shreds of decency were thrown out the window…. for good. “Let me say it now, in front of the press. No law abiding citizen in the United States of America [should have] any fear that their constitutional rights would be infringed in any way. None. Zero.”
Again, I think they would willing take every gun if they could. I think that is what he probably meant to say even though it isn’t want he believes. I think his goal was to calm the fears of law abiding citizens that their rights are not going to be infringed, but he isn’t a good communicator by any standard.
