Jimmy Carter: The U.S. Is at the Forefront of Killing People With Guns Because of the NRA

Former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday chalked the nation’s gun murder rate up to the influence of the National Rifle Association and “weak-kneed public officials” who cave to its demands.

Appearing on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” Carter agreed that the gun lobby wields incredible influence and could derail new gun control legislation.

“It happens not only at the federal level, but it also happens at every, at every state level and every municipal level,” Carter said. “The NRA is there pressuring weak-kneed — weak-kneed public officials to yield to their pressures, when they know what they’re doing is wrong.”

Carter went on to say that he’s a gun owner and has been hunting all his life, but “I never have had a need for an assault weapon, I’ve never had a need for armor-piercing bullets.”

“I think it’s ridiculous for our country to be in the forefront of killing people with guns. And when you see that there are maybe 20 or 30 people in Canada killed in a year and several thousand people killed here in the United States from guns, that shows that the NRA is wrong and that we should have some restraints,” he said.

  A long time ago.I was in the USAR. We wrote Carter a letter. Ask him if we could meet him in Planes Ga. He wrote back and said sorry he will not be home that weekend.OK. Some cooks went to planes and guess what? They had their picture taken with him and his wife. That told me right he was a lier. This is short I know but such a long story made short. We had a motto back then ” Working harder for Carter” 18% lones and high infaltion. This guy was and still is a nut job. All we wanted was meet a Pres to say we did. We were deployed at Ft.   They just keep going and going. We sit back and watch. Some of us preach but it usually falls on deaf ears. I am at odds what to do about these people. I mean we could have a Civil War, but the winners would just elect the same people again within a few months of rebuilding, because they are to busy watching American Idol to keep up with current issues or read a history book. I am left wondering if the best thing for this Country is to let it burn, John Galt style. Let the leaches destroy one another, and rebuild after they are all gone? It is time to come to a consensus on a plan of action and carry it out. Do we sit by and wait or take action? We keep saying, “Well it’s just not that bad yet”. Yeah….it is. Look at your history books, read the Constitution and the Founding Fathers, then look at where we are now. Think of all the unconstitutional actions, and all the rights we have given up over time.   It’s amazing how much truth one needs to set aside to cop the opinion that the NRA is responsible for murders in the U.S.A. Jimmy sees one who is directly responsible for the demise of the moral fiber of Americans, when he looks in the mirror. If the President was truly concerned about this, he would ensure the Judiciary did it’s job (e.g. uphold the laws). Instead you have someone like Holder who holds “his people” above the law, regardless of their crime. Instead you have someone like Oblamer who decides what laws he will follow, even though he took an oath to uphold all our laws. You want reason so many are murdered each year?   According to the UNODC, gun homicides in Canada are closer to 200 a year. About 1/6 the amount of the US per capita. Still pretty low, but hardly 20-30 per year.

  Yeah, their homicides by car, baseball bat, hammer and knife outnumber us vastly. They still kill, but only with the tools they have.

  Canada also has only one tenth of our population, so for them to have one tenth of our gun deaths would be about right, if they didn’t have such strict gun control.

So he never felt the need for a rifle that is black or whatever. So what? Armor piercing bullets? Give me a break. It will make no difference getting shot by a 30.06 at a hundred yards with AP or SP rounds.

What a stupid thing to say. Perhaps Carter really is delusional at his advanced age. Similar to the Democrats here in Colorado that blamed the killing on high capacity magazines. So the NRA is the villain? Perhaps plea bargaining firearms violations, lenient judges, drugs and gangs might be to blame. How about the criminal that actually uses the firearm in the commission of a crime? How about the individual being the killers of men. Moron.
