Jimmy Carter: The U.S. Is at the Forefront of Killing People With Guns Because of the NRA

Former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday chalked the nation’s gun murder rate up to the influence of the National Rifle Association and “weak-kneed public officials” who cave to its demands.

Appearing on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” Carter agreed that the gun lobby wields incredible influence and could derail new gun control legislation.

“It happens not only at the federal level, but it also happens at every, at every state level and every municipal level,” Carter said. “The NRA is there pressuring weak-kneed — weak-kneed public officials to yield to their pressures, when they know what they’re doing is wrong.”

Carter went on to say that he’s a gun owner and has been hunting all his life, but “I never have had a need for an assault weapon, I’ve never had a need for armor-piercing bullets.”

“I think it’s ridiculous for our country to be in the forefront of killing people with guns. And when you see that there are maybe 20 or 30 people in Canada killed in a year and several thousand people killed here in the United States from guns, that shows that the NRA is wrong and that we should have some restraints,” he said.

My asthma Advair cost almost 300.00. I don’t have any insurance to cover it. Good thing I put my money in the back but don’t tell me somethings are not worth fighting for. You can’t replace some things and a pat on the head is not going to cut it. I am sorry is not going to stop you from having an asthma attack. Not paying rent is not good. It takes a long time to get a deposit for an apartment and how can you get enough money to pay rent twice? I don’t know you Mr. Carter. You are not the person I thought you were. I am disappointed.

President Carter, I was so happy when you got elected because you were a good kind person. What happened? You are not good and you are not kind. You embraced your grandson for leaking a private video. Remember the long gas lines? Remember the failed rescue of the American’s? Remember the boat where a guy in a wheelchair stood up to the bullies and they threw him overboard and he did? What happened to you? What happened to teach a man to fish and he will be able to eat? What happened to the phrase If you don’t work you don’t eat. You are a charitable person. You founded the habitat for humanity, You make the family do sweat equality and it is not free. They don’t get a free house. What happened to you? We need to defend ourself. I live in Tulsa and last night 4 guys were shot and at least one of them killed. It happens everyday. An elderly couple last year got beat and sexually assaulted. The guy’s bb gun was used against him. The wife never made it out of the hospital. The man died a year later. Home invasions are not a fancy passing. I am 60 and soon I will live in my own apartment and when I do I will get a gun. I am not a victim. I have already been robbed twice of my purse. The second time I fought back and got a black eye. Don’t tell me you can replace everything but your life because you can’t. If you are poor and the rent is due and they steal the rent money how do you replace it

Police don’t come through my neighborhood, kids play and people at night walk there dogs without fear. We don’t call 911 until we have secured our neighborhood and it’s safe for the police to come in.

Without regard to methods or tools used to implement the act, government(s) have killed more people throughout history than any other body of people. Maybe we should get to the root of the problem and outlaw government.

Jimmy Carter as well as the current occupant of the White House are hoping that the American people become weak and fall to their knees. It is the rest of us that have read and follow the Constitution that are “stiff” kneed and refuse to bow or beg for our God given rights.
