Watch Live: Congressional Hearing on IRS Scandal

See the Amazing Half-Court, Tumbling Trick-Shot Orchestrated by a College Cheerleader
(TheBlaze/AP) — Let’s see LeBron James do this.
Ashlee Arnau, a cheerleader at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss., made an incredible front-flip half-court shot Thursday night at halftime of the school’s men’s basketball game that became an instant Internet sensation.
The ball was placed on the floor at midcourt. Arnau approached it with a running start, did a front-flip, grabbing the ball while she was upside down, and then launching it toward the basket while her legs swung forward.
“I really don’t practice at all,” Arnau told the AP in a phone interview.
Here’s the original video:
Here’s how ABC covered it:
And here’s another, wider angle that captures more of the shot:
The 21-year-old junior also plays soccer and runs track for William Carey, which competes in NAIA. She said the front-flip shot was a takeoff on the front-flip throw-in that soccer players do.
She said she has been trying the shot during halftime of home basketball games all season, but this was the first time she made it on her home floor. She said she once made the shot while attending a junior college tournament game, but that one bounced in.
“I didn’t count it because I wanted it to go nothing-but-net,” she said. “Tonight, I was really blessed it happened.”
She said she usually tries it about four or five times during the halftime show. She nailed it on her fifth attempt Thursday night — during the last home game of the season.
“Everyone was going crazy,” said Arnau, a junior from Hattiesburg who said she is studying to be a nurse. “They were cheering my name.”

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 2:11pmSeems like a stretch to me… How does a cheerleader trick shot become a racial thing?
Really?

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 4:34pmI can’t even see the crowd, maybe the first video showed them more clearly but it’s been removed. Either way I don’t see this as impressive, it’s like setting up a trebuchet to dunk…not that big of a deal…find the right spot and you can do it every time.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:20pmMaybe you’re not familiar with school basketball games, but the fans for the 2 teams sit on opposite sides of the court. Obviously, the fans for the other team were on the side you can see in the video, and that might explain why not many were clapping. Someone from her team, the home team, was taking the video–they’re the ones going crazy. Of course they’re going to care more–they’ve been watching her try to “drop it,” as someone calls out, all season. It has nothing to do with skin color.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 9:24amIt’s a front hand spring not a front flip. When you do a flip your hands don’t touch the ground.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 6:45pmI’m not criticizing her, just the blaze’s improper description of it. I mean seriously how hard would it have been to take the thirty seconds and look up the term they obviously did not know what it meant before using it in their article.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 12:34pmWell technically, her hands didn’t touch the ground, they picked up a ball. But ya, the move was very much like a front hand spring. But “flip” is very generic. In some parts hand springs are indeed called “flip flops”, and front flips without hands are commonly front tucks, or sometimes called front punches, or could also be a front layout. So if they would have said she did a front tuck or a front layout, you might be able to take issue with them but simply by saying a flip, nahhh.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 8:53amLot’s of girls learn to do front hand-springs when they’re just little kids. It’s an easy transition for them to learn flip-throws in soccer. They are quite common in Girl’s soccer. I’ve seen girls throw the ball 50-60 yards with this technique.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 9:48amYes. I knew a little girl who had mastered front hand-springs and would use it to attempt to get away from her mother and father when that were coming to spank her.
