WWE Challenges Glenn Beck to Appear on its Wrestling Program After He Criticized Their Racist Tea Party Character (Update: Beck Responds!)

Photo: WWE
Update: Glenn Beck has responded to the WWE’s challenge that he appear on their program after criticizing their new Tea Party-inspired character.
Beck’s answer? “Unfortunately I am currently booked doing anything else.”
Original post below:
The WWE wants Glenn Beck on “Raw.”
That’s the word after Beck slammed the fake wrestling franchise for one of its newest characters, the Tea Party-inspired “Jack Swagger” and his racist manager “Zeb Colter”.
“WWE has extended an invitation to talk show host and political commentator, Glenn Beck to appear live this Monday on Raw,” WWE said in a statement Friday. “Beck references WWE as ‘stupid wrestling people,’ when criticizing a recent WWE storyline involving WWE characters Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio™, Jack Swagger™ and Zeb Colter™. WWE is giving Beck the opportunity to address our 14 million weekly viewers and our global fan base, as he believes we are offending our ‘conservative’ fans with this storyline.”
Beck had slammed the WWE for “making a villain out of” the Tea Party when much of its audience likely tilts conservative.
“You’re making a villain out of what? Probably 80 percent of your audience who’s tired as it is of being miscast? They’re tired of this,” Beck said. “I’m sick and tired of being miscast. I am sick and tired of it. It is lazy at best. And I certainly am not going to give any more time or my money to any organization that is miscasting, is making it harder for me and my family to stand up for what I believe in.”
The WWE said it’s in the entertainment business and creates “fictional characters to serve as protagonists or antagonists.”
“To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines. WWE is creating a rivalry centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view. This storyline was developed to build the Mexican American character Del Rio into a hero given WWE’s large Latino base, which represents 20% of our audience,” the statement said.
TheBlaze is anxiously awaiting Beck’s response to the WWE’s challenge. We’ll let you know if we hear anything official.
It’s worth noting “Raw” will be taping in Dallas on Monday, where Beck lives.

Really, Glenn? What, exactly are you expecting from the WWE? Have you ever watched? I haven’t watched since before they lost to the World Wildlife Fund, but even as a youngster, I was never expecting well developed characters in riveting, insightful story lines.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 9:19pmThere intention was to portray the tea party as racist and to devalue the perception that this government of ours have gotten to big for its britches. This government is using the money of those who work hard to feed their families to buy the votes of those who who have no problem giving up their freedom to get their hand outs. This government is stepping all over the constitution and in my opinion its time to divorce them for they have not kept their vows. In fact WWE is much like our government where we see to opposing parties or opponents who are really getting the money from the same place and just putting on a show to get our money. I have no problem with charity but when I can’t afford to feed my family to hell with others who don’t want to work. A politician can claim that they are trying to get the rich but the truth is that crap roles down hill and you can’t because either they will cut peoples hours, pay less, raise the price of their product, or shut the doors on their business all together. We see right through this little game that is being played, at least some of us do.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 10:24pmI feel compelled to post, despite this thread being ridiculous. Or perhaps because it is ridiculous.
I’ll make the assumption that you know that professional wrestling is choreographed entertainment. And low brow entertainment at that. I’ll also assume you know that any form of entertainment has the purpose of making money – in this case for a female Republican – Linda McMahon if I have that right – whose corporation invented the character.
I watched the original video of this guy, and I assume you also realize that everything the guy said could have been cut and pasted word for word from the posts here: “We the people, protect our country, don’t tread on me,” and so on. If this guy has said a single thing that your don’t read commonly here, please let me know.
Linda McMahon is thanking her stars that Beck stooped to respond to this new wrestler. More exposure, more profit.
Face it folks, this is capitalism. Somebody came up with a brilliant idea: one that appeals to many TP members, and one that offends others. Why do you hate capitalism? Why do you hate freedom of speech? Why do you take offense at one of the lowest forms rodeo clown entertainment that exists?
You can be offended if you want, but that’s part of the scheme: and the Republican owners of this guy are laughing all the way to the bank. Ya gotta love American capitalism!

Your still not clear on how people who are making money think. Let me explain it to you: this isn’t about politics, this is about making money.
Imam, this isn’t about politics and this isn’t personal. This is about profit. This is business.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 12:48am@SENDTHEMETEORS you can keep saying the same thing over and over like a fool but it still doesn’t make you completely right. You keep saying its business, and yes you are correct, but like every other progressive you refuse to see the whole picture. You only chose to see the little sliver that confirms your worldview. 13th IMAM, is closer to point than you because he points out that which you refuse to see, the WWE promotes a gross distortion of the overarching ideals of the Tea Party, that being the end to an unchecked illegal alien migration and the reduction of the government to Constitutional levels. Besides, the motive is plain in the communiqué from the WWE, bump up the ratings for a Hispanic character by demonizing the “racist” white character. IMAM pointed out correctly that if they had done this by promoting the gross mischaracterization of a black man, you and you ilk would be the first to scream and bleat for abject humiliation, destruction and reparations from anyone you could even conceive to be responsible.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 2:11amNa it aint for real, no more than movies are… but….
I think that its pretty comical that the WWE finds Beck to be the easier target than Jones. Makes sense considering the way that Jones destroyed Morgan in their gun ‘debate’, leaving Morgan to look like nothing more than a lost moderator watching Jones debate the air.
Then again, it could be a stability thing, in that, the WWE believes Beck to be the more level headed person.
Regardless, I hope that Beck accepts. I mean, think about it:
Vince McMahon faces Paul Heyman (WWF v. ECW – in a historical regard)
John Cena faces CM Punk for the right to face the Rock for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania
Glenn Beck serves as comical relief.
One of the greatest ‘Raw’ shows ever.
Please Beck – do it for the Tea Party. xD

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 9:46amMaybe Glenn thinks it is real. I bet they will let you take your armed security detail on the “Show” Glenn.
“Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.” — John Adams, 1765
“Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Beside, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of Nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us.” — Patrick Henry
“The distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers, and New Englanders are no more. I Am Not A Virginian, But An American!” — Patrick Henry in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party.
Glenn, put down the kool-ade. It is time to get back into the game. Will you cower in a corner and await your day, or will you stand and support those who make a stand for The Constitutional Rights of Americans?
“The battle, Sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, Sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery!” — Patrick Henry

Al, no I wouldn’t. Besides, the WWE has already done exactly what you suggest: http://dathistoryguy.wordpress.com/2012/08/11/wwe-wrestling-a-haven-for-racist-stereotypes/
“The Godfather- Remember Papa Shango? Same guy. a pimp complete with his “stable” of women. The show called them “Ho’s””
Black stereotypes – evidently, I don’t watch wrestling and didn’t even realize it still existed – have already been used in professional wrestling. The link gives two examples. So, are you going to complain about that?
Nah, it’s entertainment for profit. Get over it.
Besides, you read stereotypes of Jews, Blacks and Muslims here every single day. I don’t hear you complain about that.

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 2:08pmHey meteormites. Your argument falls flat as pimps and ho’s are seen as positive characterizations among modern blacks. As distasteful as that is it is still unfortunately true. However the food stamp character that was suggested, although more accurate in depicting a greater portion of the black community would not well received. It digs too deeply into a truth about modern black demographics that they have not been able to spin into a positive. How do you make a positive about being a drain on public assistance programs. Pimp’in and ho’in are respectable. Depending on the community at large for your well being is socially accepted but it is still politically shunned. After all you don’t want to give Romney’s embarrassing comments credibility. So the other commenter is accurate in stating that the food stamp character would be attacked and you are correct about the pimps and ho’s depicted being acceptable.

You’ve seen a gay tag team before. You’ve seen a man who became a GI JOE doll (Sargeant Slaughter) turn into a heel where he supported the Iraqi cause. If you think the WWE wouldn’t even think to create a character that may tick off left-leaning supporters, you’re wrong.
Heck, the WWE’s current United States Champion has done anti-American rants before!
The fact that many conservative outlets are crying out on this is a win for the WWE. Vince is pretty much licking his chops at this point. It’s obvious that Glenn’s best move is to not come on, but if he did, I’m sure the WWE would have a great storyline to fit him in.
This is sports ENTERTAINMENT, people. WWE has done this for a long long time (they beat out Gunsmoke for the longest running TV series EVER last year) and they won’t stop. I’m surprised The Blaze hasn’t done any research into the past controversial wrestlers the WWE has had…

Beck should stay well away from this. He’ll be baited on the show mercilessly but it can also backfire on McMahon if she pushes it too hard.
Beck should take a look at how Stephanie McMahon has taken to stealing ideas from the much smaller “TNA” organization and it’s “Aces and Eights” storyline much like WWF did during the 90′s when it was outrated by Eric Bishoff’s organization. WWE ratings have shrunk over the last few years not in small part to Stephanie McMahon’s decisions.
