WWE Challenges Glenn Beck to Appear on its Wrestling Program After He Criticized Their Racist Tea Party Character (Update: Beck Responds!)

Update: Glenn Beck has responded to the WWE’s challenge that he appear on their program after criticizing their new Tea Party-inspired character.
Beck’s answer? “Unfortunately I am currently booked doing anything else.”
Original post below:
The WWE wants Glenn Beck on “Raw.”
That’s the word after Beck slammed the fake wrestling franchise for one of its newest characters, the Tea Party-inspired “Jack Swagger” and his racist manager “Zeb Colter”.
“WWE has extended an invitation to talk show host and political commentator, Glenn Beck to appear live this Monday on Raw,” WWE said in a statement Friday. “Beck references WWE as ‘stupid wrestling people,’ when criticizing a recent WWE storyline involving WWE characters Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio™, Jack Swagger™ and Zeb Colter™. WWE is giving Beck the opportunity to address our 14 million weekly viewers and our global fan base, as he believes we are offending our ‘conservative’ fans with this storyline.”
Beck had slammed the WWE for “making a villain out of” the Tea Party when much of its audience likely tilts conservative.
“You’re making a villain out of what? Probably 80 percent of your audience who’s tired as it is of being miscast? They’re tired of this,” Beck said. “I’m sick and tired of being miscast. I am sick and tired of it. It is lazy at best. And I certainly am not going to give any more time or my money to any organization that is miscasting, is making it harder for me and my family to stand up for what I believe in.”
The WWE said it’s in the entertainment business and creates “fictional characters to serve as protagonists or antagonists.”
“To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines. WWE is creating a rivalry centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view. This storyline was developed to build the Mexican American character Del Rio into a hero given WWE’s large Latino base, which represents 20% of our audience,” the statement said.
TheBlaze is anxiously awaiting Beck’s response to the WWE’s challenge. We’ll let you know if we hear anything official.
It’s worth noting “Raw” will be taping in Dallas on Monday, where Beck lives.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 10:01pmI was expecting this from Glen Beck. Talks a big game on tv or on the radio but when someone steps up and challenges him, nope, not going to do it. Really, he should do it, it will be the most viewers he’ll ever have in his career. Now for the rest of the comments about us wrestling fans being “nerds” and other insults you find humorous; watching wrestling and enjoying a show like wrestling is nothing different than watching a television drama or a movie. Characters are being played and a story is being told, just be cause you are too naive to see the product for what it is, you just use the typical stereotype of it being “rednecks” and “big dumb steroid freaks.” Educate yourself before you comment for the rest of us to see. A lot of these wrestlers are incredible smart, talented people. Just because they have a passion to perform on a public stage to make their living and not host some radio show or an everyday 9-5 job shouldn’t make them targets to your insults and slurs. Grow up and educate yourself, then make your comments instead of just slinging mud and hate.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 9:48pmGlenn Beck blames the absolute disfunction in Detroit upon labor unions and politicians.
I am pretty sure that the Jack Swagger character would recognize and articulate in a debate that Detroit’s disfunction is due to black behavior.
Therefore I believe that Jack Swagger is smarter than Glenn Beck, or at least freer to speak the Truth. Those who dare to wander off the mental reservation of the Noble Lie are dangerous and are best not engaged. Now that subject may be disturbing, so here is a nice and pleasant link:

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 9:47pmOn this issue, Glenn Beck is an idiot, as ignorant as NASCAR fans. Oh yeah, real exciting watching a car go 250 mph around in a circle. Bottom line, Glenn Beck is becoming a commercial icon, another guy who talks crap about something then backs down when offered an opportunity to defend his position. He does this so well from behind a microphone. What could you possibly be doing on Monday night between 8-11pm? Nobody books you anymore Glenn, you are getting out sold by Alex Johnson. Absolutely losing interest in everything associated with the Blaze because of Glenn Beck.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 8:59pmWell done Beck. I said it on twitter i’ll say it here. They’re insults to REAL wrestlers who just got screwed by the IOC. This story move isnt the first one of this type they’ve made but its sure as hell the most blatant.
This coming from two supposedly conservative owners. One who even ran for office. They don’t deserve the time of day from you. OR any of us. I started watching ages ago.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 8:50pmYou guys are all jerks. Everyone knows WWE is fake.
So are all of the other crappy shows that each of you watch. Sitcoms, fake, Soap Operas, fake, “reality tv”, fake.
At least WWE admits it’s fake. This character is hilarious, it is not offensive to right wingers, and if Glenn had any nuts he’d take them up on their offer.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 7:39pmSorry, but Glenn has this all wrong. I have fond memories of watching “professional wrestling” with my father when I was a kid. And actually watched well into adulthood. I now watch UFC in stead. However, the WWE, and pro wrestling in general has done this kind of thing for years. When creating a villain, they have always tended to create a villain in a stereotype that is contrary to what the actual group is. If the villain is hispanic, they will create a hispanic character that is a hateable stereotype.
If they were to create a “Villain” that was a true tea party type, how hateable would that character be? Probably not very hateable at all. And, this is the whole point. They have to create a character that everyone will hate, including Tea Party members, otherwise, he wouldn’t be much of a villain at all.
I can totally understand how people would take offense to this. And, that is kind of the point in the whole thing. They have been doing this for years. I will bet, dollars to doughnuts, that this guy changes within the next year, and becomes a good guy, and starts showing the true colors of the Tea Party. As I said, it happens all the time. But, for now, they have to have a truly hateable character, and this fits the bill.
By Glenn hating this character, as much as he does, and by Glenn talking about this on the radio the way he did, means that they accomplished their goal.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 7:01pmWhy? Glenn’s message is real, lasting, meaningful and authentic. The fake wrestling swine are so far from that it would be exactly casting his pearls before swine.
Remember when John Stossel tried to report interview one of those swine? Maybe if Glenn goes with a group of Navy Seals just to show them a dose of reality. Naw. What for? Swine. Pearls. Forget it.

Posted on February 22, 2013 at 6:42pmMr. Beck; theres no way I’m as smart as you and your staff. Yet, I have the distinction to know what is important and what is entertainment. The whole point of acting, thats what they do on the WWE, is to boil the water of our society. As you say Mr. Beck; we should do our research. I think mayby you should give less time to preaching and more time to the realities of our world. Believe me I hang on a lot of the words you use to present you believes. You are a wise man for being so young. Your not a profit. God said don’t look for profits, I’m not. Lighten up Mr. Beck, give we the people the benifit of the doubt thet we have opionions and wisdom. Thank you sir for being you.

It is all about promotion. That Beck addressed them gives the WWE more to play off of.
