Update: Glenn Beck has responded to the WWE’s challenge that he appear on their program after criticizing their new Tea Party-inspired character.
Beck’s answer? “Unfortunately I am currently booked doing anything else.”
Original post below:
The WWE wants Glenn Beck on “Raw.”
That’s the word after Beck slammed the fake wrestling franchise for one of its newest characters, the Tea Party-inspired “Jack Swagger” and his racist manager “Zeb Colter”.
“WWE has extended an invitation to talk show host and political commentator, Glenn Beck to appear live this Monday on Raw,” WWE said in a statement Friday. “Beck references WWE as ‘stupid wrestling people,’ when criticizing a recent WWE storyline involving WWE characters Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio™, Jack Swagger™ and Zeb Colter™. WWE is giving Beck the opportunity to address our 14 million weekly viewers and our global fan base, as he believes we are offending our ‘conservative’ fans with this storyline.”
Beck had slammed the WWE for “making a villain out of” the Tea Party when much of its audience likely tilts conservative.
“You’re making a villain out of what? Probably 80 percent of your audience who’s tired as it is of being miscast? They’re tired of this,” Beck said. “I’m sick and tired of being miscast. I am sick and tired of it. It is lazy at best. And I certainly am not going to give any more time or my money to any organization that is miscasting, is making it harder for me and my family to stand up for what I believe in.”
The WWE said it’s in the entertainment business and creates “fictional characters to serve as protagonists or antagonists.”
“To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines. WWE is creating a rivalry centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view. This storyline was developed to build the Mexican American character Del Rio into a hero given WWE’s large Latino base, which represents 20% of our audience,” the statement said.
TheBlaze is anxiously awaiting Beck’s response to the WWE’s challenge. We’ll let you know if we hear anything official.
It’s worth noting “Raw” will be taping in Dallas on Monday, where Beck lives.

Feb. 24, 2013 at 5:15pm#1: Love Glenn & Love WWE.
#2. Sick & Tired of all the liberal (warped baseless reasoning) thinking that disses pro Wrestling because it’s “fake.” So is TV and the movies; so I guess you don’t watch them either???
#3. Pro Wrestling is Live Theater and so requires much more talent, acting and athletics, than any TV or Movie. Just ask any actor who has performed in live theater or has used a stunt double to fill in for him.
#4. Best description for WWE: ‘Adult Cartoons’ & when you realize that it is entertainment, you will appreciate the talent and the athleticism that these guys bring to the audience every week.
#5. A few years ago I got real upset with the WWE. They had a storyline where 2 tag team guys were going to have a homosexual wedding right on Monday Night Raw. It was all over the TV news & blogosphere. When ‘the big night’ came, they turned it 180 degrees. The 2 wrestlers laughed at the idea and made fun of all the ‘suckers’ who thought it was real… The WWE had fooled EVERYONE so STAY TUNED on this ‘Tea Party’ parody.
And Finally; Thank God for Vince McMahon and the WWE. They are the last bastion of organized entertainment that embraces and endears the patriotism of the old WWII Hollywood.
Vince McMahon has risked his entire company and has sent the WWE on a C-17 Cargo Plane to entertain our military overseas in combat zones since 2002. He ALSO provides Free tickets to all his shows for all active American military personnel.

Feb. 24, 2013 at 10:47amNot a fan of the WWE, I stopped watching the WWF when I was about 5, when I realized what my penis was for and that there were girls out there to be hanging around with on a regular basis. I didn’t even know who these morons are, but one quick search elicited this response:
http://wrestling.insidepulse.com/2013/02/20/wwe-smackdown-superstar-jack-swagger-arrested-wmugshot/
Not going to judge him for the cannabis, those guys do get hurt, I had a friend who was a semi-pro wrestler and had all kinds of major back issues, medicinal cannabis was his med, not pills.
But overall, these guys are complete monkey-brained, knuckle-dragging, neo-trogloditic, mouth breathers.
Why even put an ounce of energy toward them, you’re only feeding the hysteria and vindicating them.
Please STOP even referencing them, it’s a waste of time, energy and resources, PLUS there are much bigger fish to fry in this country right now.

Feb. 24, 2013 at 7:11amI am proud of Glenn Beck standing up to Vince because his company is not a wrestling company? It is a movie, video, merchandising company, and a few others, and it is heavily invested in social media? Vince wants to play this, awe, come on Glenn, we’re just having some fun here?
Really? When you “Do more than Disney”, averaging well over $30 million dollars a month in PROFITS, are you trying to tell us you could not afford to avoid insulting the Tea Party or calling people that are not racist, racist? Do you really want us to ask John Cena if he should champion a company like that?
The WWE does NOT produce a wrestling match, they take the Gene Simmons model, and license everything they can out of every second of tape? They WILL make action figures and sell them to little kids when they create these characters?
The WWE is one of the most powerful media companies on the planet, growing stronger ties every year with Hollywood? A lot of people do not agree with the way the WWE has made money, but they certainly are far from stupid? They are very calculating about what they do?
Maybe Vince sees something of himself in Glenn, a hungry young man, ready to take on the world and fulfill the dreams of little kids around the planet? One rumor alleges Glenn Beck saved Jack Swagger’s job, who was going to get fired?
Why should millions of Americans have to fight SNL and WWE? It’s only entertainment money?

Feb. 23, 2013 at 4:36pmMr. Beck
Please do address them. It is my desire to have an individual address this message properly to the audience whom does not have the drive to seek out the more conservative point of view. Who knows, if you give them a good chastising perhaps you may reach out and help some one understand how and why conservative and libertarian minded people think the way we do. I still remember the days of my soul searching and am sure that many of these younger folks are going through the same process that I once went through.
You may not make any money on this one, but by addressing this audience you are doing the “Right” thing.

Feb. 23, 2013 at 1:34pmI don’t find this entertaining. This is offensive, period. I’m completely on Glenn’s side. I would expect this behavior from the left who have no common sense, dignity, respect for anyone who doesn’t share their opinion, but I don’t expect this from someone who is supposedly part of the Tea Party. I belong to the Tea Party and have been to many many rallies and meetings and NEVER EVER have I witnessed this sort of behavior. It’s bad enough the media & the left so wrongfully portray the Tea Party as racist. I think you guys from the WWE have fallen on your head too many times.

Feb. 23, 2013 at 1:24pmWWE sucks these days anyways- if you want to watch an actual pro-wrestling show that gives you more wrestling content than backstage antics- watch IMPACT wrestling on Spike TV…some of the wrestlers include (actual Gold medalist) Kurt Angle, Sting, Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, and a ton of wrestlers who aren’t afraid to call themselves athletes, rather than “Sports Entertainers”.
It’s still staged, but at least they don’t totally insult their audience like WWE…and they aren’t afraid to shed a little blood. WWE has now banned blood because they say they are “PG”. Yeah.

Feb. 23, 2013 at 12:28pmI think Jack Swagger has more things to worry about this morning than Glenn Beck. Escpecially since he was arrested in Biloxi, MS for DUI (not alcohol), marijuana possession, and speeding. Kharma is a Bit??.

Feb. 23, 2013 at 11:45amOh Glenn, how bad you are at your job. If you were really about pointing things out to people and getting facts right you would go to RAW. Oh wait, without your horrible researchers and bullet points in front of you, you can’t debate on live TV and prove your points.
Must be a slow news day when you have to bash a company that does more for people than you Beck.
I mean come on, Beck has the perfect firestorm he could bring, the guy he is complaining about just got arrested this week for weed and DUI. But yet he still turns it down.
And with all due fairness, even if wrestling didn’t do this storylines, the Tea Party would still look like racist idiots.
I mean, if a storyline based on a party that says the same stuff the party are saying in the storyline and doing the same stuff that the party does, and you are part of that party and the storyline is coming across that way to you as racist and idiotic, then maybe you need to step back and take a look at the party that you are part of.
We all have different views and will NEVER agree on anything, that’s what makes America great because we have that Freedom. However, if you are going to bash a company you have no clue about or any affiliation with in public with for doing something that the Tea Party actually does, that just using a scapegoat to take the negative attention off yourselves and placing it somewhere else to make yourselves look better Glenn. It’s easy to talk with a mic and no one around isn’t Beck.

Feb. 23, 2013 at 11:07amThe big problem with responding to this type of invitation is that wrestlers have a policy of beating the crap out of anyone who says anything negative about their business. Maybe if they quit doing that, it would be easier to get guests. John Stossel could probably add something here.
