1 Dead After Alleged Home Invasion in North Carolina: ‘He Kept Beating Me So I Finally Got Out My .38…’

An alleged robber is dead after breaking in to a house in Hickory, North Carolina.

Police received a call Saturday morning from a homeowner who said he’d shot an intruder, and arrived to find both men still at the house.  The homeowner is alive and lightly injured; the intruder was pronounced dead at the scene.

The survivor, identified as Paul Ohla, explained his side of the story to WBTV3: “Guy kicked in the door, he came in and, ah, grabbed me and threw me down…He kept beating me and I finally got a hold of my .38, and I shot him.”

52-year-old Carl Perry, a neighbor, said he heard two or three shots, according to the Hickory Record.

“I think it’s a bad deal went wrong,” he remarked.

Ohla was taken to the hospital for light injuries sustained during the altercation, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators are still piecing together exactly what happened, but did find evidence of a break-in. Ohla is reportedly cooperating with police, and says he was acting in self-defense against a man he did not know.

      I am thinking some thug burglers broke into the house of an armed drug dealer.

      I have to agree with DEDA1. I tried to watch the Washington DC sunday morning news shows and watching these old democrats sit around and kiss each others backsides is disgusting. It was like watching a bunch of old perverts sitting around trying to top each other by telling the best pedophile story. The world would be a better place with fewer democrats.

      Another good ending. I pity any fools who break into homes that are armed. That’s why we MUST keep our 2nd Amendment Rights. Contrary to our gov’t. thinking, we have a RIGHT to defend ourselves with whatever it takes, and a gun is the easiest thing to get the job done, and easier than going out on the balcony to shoot a shotgun into the air which is illegal in most cities. Those pellets land somewhere

      The media is slipping on this one … if the intruder were black, the homeowner is a racist pig and should be arrested … if the intruder were white, the intruder is a tea party extremist and gun (I mean People) control needs to be enacted immediatly.

      Or peed in his britches, vomited and then fired a couple of shots out the window. He is really at fault for not locating his home in a “Home invasion free zone”. He should have had a call box installed and even had a buddy to help fend off the invader.

      I love the net posts…just like trying to communicate with evilmail…never did like communicating with email. Too impersonal and if you have a slip of the keyboard, then fire comes down from on high.     Criminals must not watch the news. More and more homeowners are buying guns and are fighting back. Citizens are sick of being helpless victims.

    You would think criminals would know better than to force their way into homes now days. They are the ones ending up dead, instead of the homeowner.

    In my home I have a .22 mag on me.that should buy me time to get to a number of guns throughout my house most of those are within five to ten steps anywhere in my home.thats just the way I like it and I live in the country.I started that over 12 years ago when my neighbor had there house broke into by a convict that had just been released from prison that was over 60 miles away.no more leaving the keys in the truck and the house unlocked.good job old man

    Sadly, a GOP lawmaker here in NC wants to repeal the castle doctrine law that went in effect last year. If successful this homeowner would have been guilty of a felony for discharging a firearm inside a building.

      The MSM will spin the story somehow – was the perp a black man or a minority?, was he armed?, was it a case of mistaken identity (the perp accidently went into the wrong house). Just like they support obummer with his LIE about whose idea the sequestor was, they could not be trusted to tell the truth even if God spoke to them.
