1 Dead After Alleged Home Invasion in North Carolina: ‘He Kept Beating Me So I Finally Got Out My .38…’

An alleged robber is dead after breaking in to a house in Hickory, North Carolina.
Police received a call Saturday morning from a homeowner who said he’d shot an intruder, and arrived to find both men still at the house. The homeowner is alive and lightly injured; the intruder was pronounced dead at the scene.
The survivor, identified as Paul Ohla, explained his side of the story to WBTV3: “Guy kicked in the door, he came in and, ah, grabbed me and threw me down…He kept beating me and I finally got a hold of my .38, and I shot him.”
52-year-old Carl Perry, a neighbor, said he heard two or three shots, according to the Hickory Record.

“I think it’s a bad deal went wrong,” he remarked.
Ohla was taken to the hospital for light injuries sustained during the altercation, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Investigators are still piecing together exactly what happened, but did find evidence of a break-in. Ohla is reportedly cooperating with police, and says he was acting in self-defense against a man he did not know.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 3:20amThe neighbor seems to think something about a “deal going bad.” I am not a robber, but I do believe that place would not have a lot worth breaking into especially seeing it in the daytime. Whatever really did happen? It does make me wonder if the neighbor had head of some goings on there that would make deals going bad possible. Very likely, but then again, all kinds of dealers must be protected in their own home from whatever they do, I suppose. Then again it may just be a desperate robber wanting look, whatever he could get from anywhere.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 4:01amYes, and it could have been someones’s kin or child who was desperate, living in fear of death from withdrawals from being addicted to dope for years. It could have been someone so desperate as an addict he was scrounging, lying, robbing and stealing, unable to work from his self-inflicted sickness until his days and nights work consisted of chasing dope. Perhaps his sick body and mind prevented him from holding down meaningful work or any work with consistency until, desperate he robs, steals and does what is to him more natural at this point in his life. Self-inflicted sickness is sickness all the same as a mountain skier who goes off trail and inflicts permanent damage to himself. He will be crippled, perhaps for life, but crippled he is. Now, after this I must add why is there no help for these people who want off this mess? Why are people wanting to legalize this horrid stuff and addict even more stupid people? With the money spent on putting rockets into space, they could find a financially viable solution and help those suffering people who have no way out but death. People make horrible mistakes that cost them the rest of their lives and even an early death. They bring destruction and sickness on themselves, but that does not make them any less sick than the extreme sporter or race car driver hobbled for life. Who but an addict would rob such a place, if he robbed it at all?

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:44amAnd those sorry excuses for human beings called liberals want to take this man’s gun away. A liberal is far more dangerous than any criminal you’ll ever face. This man is a hero. Not only did he save his own life and property, but instead of cowering on the floor and letting himself be beaten to death like all good liberals advise, he saved countless other potential citizens from becoming victims and the legal system as well as the tax payers a whole crap-load of time and money. Somebody there in that town order this man super deluxe pizza and a six-pack of his favorite beverage. I’m glad you made it buddy and thank you for your sacrifice and service to this country for getting rid of one more POS. How do eat an elephant? One bite at a time. A bigger challenge. How do you stop crime? One Paul Ohla at a time. I salute you sir.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:19amWhy did he grab his gun? He could have pee’d on him or better yet thrown up on the intruder…..no justification whatsoever for a .38.
Of course if the home owner was LGBT he could have also claimed he was menstruating.

I have a CCP and I carry my firearm at ALL times. Even when I’m in my home and just doing the laundry, cleaning house, or just sitting on the couch watching the t.v. I am always armed. I am sad that I have to live this way, but I will not become a victim. Any jack-knob who decides to bust down my door will get a big surprise. This is not bravado, just common sense and self preservation.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:04amFunny you say that. I have my Springfield Compact .45 sitting next to me at the kitchen table. In the living room, when I go in there to tend to the wood stove, sitting on the coffee table is my 1913 Colt Hammer-less Gentleman’s .38. In the bedroom on the headboard where my wife is stretched out on the bed messing her computer is my Ruger MKIII .22 with a, well, lets just say any one breaking in will never hear it coming. Next to the bed is the Draco AK47 Pistol loaded with 40 rds, a 20 gauge shotgun, A full sized AK47 also loaded with 40rds and a Marlin .22 Rifle with 18 rds. A man need do no more than to watch the news, log into The Blaze, or read a newspaper to realize he’s a damned fool to not have a gun within arms reach at all times. If I step outside the door I have one on my side, every where I go, even when I’m cutting and splitting wood. With an ax mind you. None of that sissy hydraulic stuff for me. I brought up 1 section today. 300 lb log. It split into 18 pieces plus kindling. It will heat the house for two maybe three days, but that’s a different story for a different day. I’m just figuring I might need to get in shape. Never know when someone will be kicking in your door or TSHTF. I’m ready.

One less food-stamp, entitlement moron, welfare-sucking check recipient for us law abiding taxpayers to support. Paul Ohla’s mug should be included on Mt. Rushmore. Don’t know if I could be as calm as the homeowner, after this sort of ordeal.
He was attacked. He has head and hand injuries. Plus, dealing with the fact he was forced to take a life.
I sure hope the hazmat team at least cleaned up the perp’s possibly AIDS or Hepatitis tainted blood for him.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:10amWhy he was entitled to as many bullets as he could stand. Looks like he availed of Mr. Ohla’s generosity and took just that, as many as he could stand. I was taught once if you are ever questioned as to why you fired so many bullets, let’s say you fired 5, (DO NOT SAY ANYTHING WITHOUT YOUR LAWYER) simply say that 4 was not enough and six would have been too many.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 6:20amNever let someone or thing that threatens you get inside arm’s length and never say “I’ve got a gun”. If you feel you need to use deadly force for heaven’s sake let the first sound they hear be the safety clicking off, and they shouldn’t have time to hear anything after that if you are doing your job.
‘The average response time of a 911 call is over 23 minutes… the response time of a ..44 magnum is 1400 feet per second.’
The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win – and cheat if necessary.
Don’t forget, incoming fire has the right of way.
Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. You may get killed with your own gun, but he’ll have to beat you to death with it, cause it’s going to be empty.
If you’re not shooting, you should be loading. If you’re not loading, you should be moving, if you’re not moving, someone’s going to cut your head off and put it on a stick.
Do something. It may be wrong, but do something.
Shoot what’s available, as long as it’s available, until something else becomes available.
If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That’s ridiculous. If you have a gun, what in the hell do you have to be paranoid for?
Don’t shoot fast, unless you also shoot good.
You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:17amYeah. The first response from a liberal is that nothing in your home is worth someones life. To which I say bull crap. Everything in my house I worked long hours for. It is mine and if you try to take it I will stop you with force, up to and including killing you. The second bout of diarrhea that spews from the liberal mouth would be that “If you had just not resisted then no one would have been hurt. That one makes even me want to puke. If you do not resist they’ll take over the whole damned country. Oh wait. We have been doing it the liberal way for many years and the just about have taken over the country. Not anymore.
