5-Year-Old Reportedly Shot in the Arm by Accident — But Was it by Robbers, His Father, or His Brother?

Bronx Father Denny Pantoja Arrested After 5 Year Old Son Reportedly Shoots Himself While Playing With a Gun

(Photo: FOX5)

A five-year old boy is in serious but stable condition after being shot in the arm in the Bronx neighborhood of New York on Friday.  What was not clear in the immediate aftermath, though, was how it all happened.

In a dizzying tale, the culprit went from robbers, to the boy’s father, to the boy’s 11-year-old brother, before police announced that the child appeared to have accidentally shot himself.

33-year-old Denny Pantoja originally claimed his son was shot in a robbery at a nearby check-cashing firm, according to WABC, before saying that he accidentally shot him at their home.  Reports soon shifted the blame to the boy’s 11-year-old brother, before authorities said that the young child appeared to have accidentally shot himself while playing with the firearm.

Pantoja says he grabbed the child and ran outside for help after his son walked in to his bedroom, likely crying, saying that he’d been shot.  He soon got in his car and attempted to rush the boy to the hospital but was reportedly pulled over for speeding.  Seeing the bleeding child, police immediately called an ambulance.

Though Pantoja doesn’t appear to have pulled the trigger, he is still being charged with criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the New York Post.

Neighbors describe the man as a good father, saying “he’s always with his children” and has a tendency to spoil them.

One neighbor defended Pantoja’s decision to have a weapon in the house for FOX5: “As any man of a family would have [a gun], it’s a safety…Anything happen in his family, he would take the bid, that’s family.”

The type of gun has not been identified, but police say they found it in Pantoja’s car.

Boy this could be big trouble in NYC & NY. If he had a two liter soda in the house on top of this he could get life.

They will throw him in prison after they let out a couple child molesters and rapist to make room for him. It is torture enough to have your own child suffer for personal negligence.

Hope the kids like their new State assigned Foster Parents. WIth luck the Father will get supervised visitation once every blue moon. Best part of all they will make a felon out of him so he will no longer be able to have a firearm……………….sorry for the delay the Soviet National Anthem was playing and I had to stand at attention.

Typical New York. Charge the taxpayer, make a new criminal. Surprised they haven’t charged dad for having a salt shaker and transfats in the house too.

If the child was shot by himself or his brother with the father’s irresponsibly stored and possibly illegally possessed firearm, then the father should be charged with felony child endangerment. This has absolutely nothing to do with the second amendment. This is about common sense, or lack thereof.

So exactly what is criminal possession of a weapon in New York? I think that the Second Amendment says that you have the right to bare arms. Where exactly does it say, except in New York? I am pretty sure that it pertains to everywhere in the United States. Did New York leave the Union, and didn’t tell the rest of us?

I don’t understand, guns are all but banned in NYC. This isn’t even possible! I suspect this is a lie. There was no one shot. I mean, look at Chicago, guns are banned there and no one has been shot since, wait, say what? Nevermind!

Only the elite and cops can have firearms in NY. The rest of you can call 911. There lives are much more valuable than yours. I’m sure Bloomberg will be there with gun’s a blazin’, protecting you and your family. Just don’t have a salt shaker, or cigarette on the property. Taboo!

That law is unconstitutional just like every other gun law passed since the second amendment was written. It was legal at one time in this country to own slaves as well and that was dealt with just like all these BS gun laws will be.

Next we will hear that a pistol brandishing 5 year old confronted a NYC swat team, backed by a phalanx of NY Staties riot police, flanked by an Kennedy Airport armored homeland security division, covered by a squadron of The Obama Unit drones armed with hellfire rockets. They all let loose with everything they had when they saw he had a Vote Mitt T-Shirt on. As a result he had a flesh wound in one of his arms. They all subdued him and will charge him as a felon. Repeat after me “I love NY,,,, I love NY”

When I was young and growing up, if a child was accidentally shot, it was considered an unfortunate family event. No matter what the outcome, life went on afterwards. Today if a child is accidentally shot, the police come out, arrest the father and sometimes mother, try them for a crime, throw them in jail, cause them to lose their jobs, break up the family, cause them to lose their home and belongings, sometimes remove their other children from the family permanently, all to protect and for the sake of the family. What a wonderful thing government is!
