Shock After North Dakota High School Students Appear to Don KKK Style Hoods at Hockey Game

(TheBlaze/AP) — A North Dakota high school principal says appropriate action is being taken after three students briefly donned Ku Klux Klan-style white robes and hoods Friday night during a state hockey semifinal game.

The photo caused an uproar on Twitter when it was posted by 19-year-old Shane Schuster, who was seated with some friends at Ralph Engelstad Arena when something in the student section across the rink caught his eye.

“I thought, `Are those KKK hoods?’ I couldn’t believe it,” Schuster said. “I was shocked.”

Schuster said he focused his camera phone and snapped a photo, later uploading it to Twitter. By late afternoon, it had more than 75 retweets, with many users expressing outrage and some wondering whether the picture was Photoshopped.

But Kristopher Arason, Red River’s principal, said the school’s investigation determined that the students put on the attire just after Red River’s first goal and wore it for about 30 seconds to a minute. The teens removed the outfits after students in the section told them it was offensive, he said.

“We, as a school, are extremely disappointed with the behavior of these three students,” Arason said in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Saturday. “This behavior is not a representation of our school or student body.”

He did not indicate what disciplinary action the three unidentified students could face.

The students were all dressed in white as part of a “white out” theme to support the team, according to reports, an idea popularized more than 25 years ago by the Winnipeg Jets. In the intervening years, though, the practice has spread to the college and high school levels.

The Associated Press notes that Davies High School is named in honor of Ronald Davies, the former federal judge from Fargo whose 1957 rulings integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. – a pivotal event in the civil rights movement.

The judge’s son commented for the Grand Forks Herald: “I’m not familiar with the white out actions and they cause me no concern…The hooded portion is something the school administration should talk to the students about. They may not have attached any significance to their attire but, if they did, and it was racially motivated, then the school ought to take appropriate action, whatever that is.”

  These kids knew exactly what they were doing. The real outrage here is that three high school kids acting like idiots, but who hurt nobody, can make the national news but, yet, you don’t hear a peep from the mainstream media about the hundreds and hundreds of racially motivated black flash mobs, in which gangs of black youths viciously single out and attack helpless white people.

  Looking at the group of kids in the stands, I see 9 more kids dressed the same that did not put their hoods on. Are you sure they did not go their as ghost? I see a lot of white face paint that makes them look like ghost.
  
  I guess if you look hard enough and anal enough you can find something that is “Not Politically Correct” in a group of people. My question is Why?

  While I agree that their actions were stupid and I strongly disagree with the KKK, I want to know where these students first amendment rights are AND why is this a school discipline situation and not a parental discipline situation? My dad would have kicked my tail end for this.

  (1) “but” or “yet”–pick ONE.
  (2) The reason the “mainstream media” is’t reporting “hundreds and hundreds” (as if it were some epidemic) of incidents of black-on-white mob violence is because it isn’t HAPPENING. The VAST majority of violent crimes are INTRA-racial not INTER-racial.

Look out Obama, Holder are going to your state. They’ll be arrested and charged with hate crimes, like racial intolerance, public racialism. I just wonder why they didn’t go after the black panthers at some of voting Booth’s, or putting out bounties on Zimmerman. The panthers are allowed to make threats, and three kids are in trouble for wearing hoods. If they are racist, at least it’s in the open for all to see. Its not hidden like Obama’s accusations, or Biden chains remark, or all gores speeches accusing all republicans of racial intolerance. Maybe Pelosi’s rants of poison air, water,or how unfair it is to stop the exodus on the borders. Just to curry votes for thedens. This country is racially decided not by the whites, but by our boy king Obama’s intolerance, and lies, accusations to get voted into the white house. He pardoned his black friend Holder, after Holder threatened to go public with fast and furious. In an 8 page letter. Were not racist, were just tired of be accused of being racist by the media and our democrat politicians. They’ve even accused other politicians like Rubio, and Cruz, not to mention West and the rest of being racist. Its time to stop the rhetoric, and stop the accusations. This is proof that teen age brains are not fully developed. Poor judgment, for sure. But KKK? I doubt that very much. The “white out” explanation makes a lot more sense. This reminds me of Prince Harry wearing the Nazi Uniform, causing outrage. He should have known OH SO MUCH BETTER, but he didn’t and he was – what? – in his 20′s at the time?
