Wayne LaPierre on Universal Background Checks: That Registry Will Be Used to Confiscate Your Guns

National Rifle Association executive vice president and CEO Wayne LaPierre continued speaking out against President Obama’s recent gun control proposals Saturday night, zeroing in on “the real consequences of background checks,” according to the NRA.

The organization has been targeted by many on the left in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary last December. While the NRA argues that more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens creates a safer community, many in the administration and on the left disagree, saying it leads to more gun violence and accidental deaths.

Most recently, the NRA has been publicizing a memo it obtained from the Justice Department that says the success of universal background checks would depend in part on “requiring gun registration,” and says gun buybacks would not be effective “unless massive and coupled with a ban.”

LaPierre began his speech with a reminder on why he believes it’s so important to counter strict gun control measures:

“The Second Amendment — it’s not just words on parchment. It’s not a frivolous suggestion from our Founding Fathers to be interpreted on a whim. It lies on the very heart of what our country was founded upon. Our Founding Fathers knew that without the Second Amendment, all of our other freedoms could be in jeopardy. [And] our freedoms are the very essence of America. They are what make America unique.”

Now, he said, we’re witnessing the single-most devastating attack on that right that “our country has ever seen.”

He discussed NRA proposals to make schools safer, noting that Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) admitted that she had gun control legislation in her desk for a year and was waiting for the “right time” to introduce it. In his opinion, many gun control opponents more about politics than they are proven solutions.

“Waiting for an unspeakable act to occur so the American people could be persuaded to buy her political agenda?” LaPierre commented with disgust. “It’s not about making our kids or our streets safer, it’s all about their decades-old agenda.”

He soon got to the heart of his speech: universal background checks, and what he claims they’re really all about:

“Don’t you be fooled. There is nothing “universal,” nor “reasonable” about it. They ought to stop pretending and stop calling it what it will never be. Criminals will never be a part of it, and I have come to believe that the adjudicated mentally incompetent [won't either]…This so-called universal background check that you’re hearing about is aimed at one thing: it’s aimed at registering your guns and, when another tragic opportunity presents itself, that registry will be used to confiscate your guns.”

“Imagine right now, your name on a massive government list,” he asked the audience, noting that it would be pretty “handy” for a drug dealer, thug, or criminal. “How safe do you think that government list will be?” he continued, noting the flood of personal information released this year by various media outlets on gun owners.

LaPierre proceeded to highlight other gun control proposals state by state, concluding with a word on how the Mexican government has asked the U.S. Senate for a registry of all gun owners in the United States.

“What is the point of that?” he asked.

“They have all the security they want,” LaPierre said, referring to politicians. “Our only means of security is the Second Amendment when the glass breaks in the middle of the night, and we have a right to defend ourselves…They don’t have the right to take that right away.”

“Was this what our Founding Fathers intended?” he asked. What Washington needs to do is recognize that Americans really have shared goals: they want their communities to be safer, and they will do anything to protect their kids.

Start focusing on that, he said, and “stop trying to convince the American people that all law-abiding gun owners are criminals in waiting.”

He concluded with an inspiring statement on how many gun control proposals have failed, and NRA members and Americans need to continue standing up and making their voices heard. He told the crowd to call their congressmen and senators this week, then sit down and write a hand-written letter, and follow up with an email.

“We will not be duped. We will not be demonized. And we will not be divided,” he said.

“As lawful gun-owners, we deserve nothing less than absolute respect as people that believe in our individual rights, believe in individual responsibility, believe in protecting our families, and believe in defending our country.”

Wayne LaPierre on video 1999 favoring Universal Gun Background checks for all gun owners. He like many others have suck their heads in their behinds and try to blow smoke up our. How long before some of you become victims of mast shootings. A country is judge by how it treats it people, mostly it’s children.

  Society was not doing the mass shootings. A few criminals were. Society jails them because they are not part of society. Therefor society is not judged since they are innocent. Since you want truth not lies this is what you will receive. All those supporting tyranny are members of a left leaning group of mass murderers of innocent children, around 54 million abortions so far. You are right you will be judged by how you treat your children. Those on the right are against this mass murder therefor innocent and will not be judged. The guilty will be judged, not the innocent. God is fair even if you are not. There is no escape from this. Do not put all citizens in this group. Leftist policies disarm people making defense impossible. Each killer can be taken out by a single bullet. Yet you keep those bullets away from those who needed them at the critical time. Again you, not the right, are responsible for these deaths. So if we total all the victims of abortion with all those of these shootings, every single one of these souls died due to your actions therefor only you are guilty. Not the right. The NRA in the publication of this “memo” whatever their conclusions –is a good thing. The memo reflects Obama’s extreme animus toward Americans who still cling to their guns and their religion.   The truth about gun crime in America is so flipping obvious, but no one wants to stand up and speak the truth, and talk about what is real.
  
  Our violent crime is intrinsically tied to our welfare. We have politicians clamoring about fixing immigration, but not a word about fixing welfare. The two are connected at the hip. If you break it down in simple terms, we complain about Mexicans coming here to do the work that we are paying lazy Americans not to do, so we can pay them welfare and keep them voting democrat.
  
  Seal the border, punish business that hire non legals, and then systematically end welfare. Hunger is a motivator. When Tyrone and Tameka have to go back to work, there will be less time for crime and making illegitimate babies in the ghetto. When Claudette and Bubba go back to work, there will be less time for cooking meth in the trailer.
  
  In major cities in America (like Chicago and LA), 70% of murder is tied to gangs but no word from libs on fighting these gangs.
  
  Blacks in America make up 12.5% of the population and do 1/2 of all murders. Half of all murder victims in the US last year were black, but not a peep from the MSM. They are fine with blacks killing blacks with cheap or stolen handguns. They know the facts, that of all murders last year in the us, rifles were used in less than 4%, but they do not care about lowering black on black murder, what they want, is my rifle.   The point of the article was his statement that a universal background check would be used to confiscate guns. Your attempt to deflect the argument is typical of someone with no argument.One can easily argue that possession of a gun has saved a life. I just hope that you are never in a position that makes you regret your decision not to be armed. The police cannot protect and are under no legal obligation to do so. Gun registration and confiscation has never eliminated crimes of violence and studies seem to indicate that an armed society is actually safer. However, I’m sure that all that makes no difference to you. Well and good. But please don’t demand that other members of society protect you when you will not protect yourself.

Not that long ago (but sadly long enough) people knew that their life consisted of the work of their backs or minds to produce value was their property.   I want someone to explain in detail how universal backgrounds checks would work as far as record keeping. Also what is the legislation on mental health records. All the discussion is on the guns but nothing on dealing with the mental problems and how to do the cross check. 97% of the focus is on the guns when 80% of the mass shooting problems is mental or criminal.
  
  If only licensed dealers can only do the private party transfer and the buyer has to keep a receipt that might work. But if there is going to be a record of who owns what in a data base I have a problem with that. If I understand correctly only the FFL dealers have that information and maintain those records while in business and the records called into for background checks are suppose to be destroyed after a certain amount of time. Highly doubt that any records are destroyed.
  
  You want to really get things going have a background check include checks against people who are taking certain drugs for mental illness. That should get the ACLU all tied up in knots.

  It’s really hard to take the left’s desire to protect our children seriously! How many children have died via abortion with liberals cheering in the killings? Millions! Now the opportunists are exploiting recent tragedies in order to promote the disarmament for their own nefarious purposes. All current proposals for gun control put forth by the left appears to be a preliminary salvos in complete disarmament. Nothing being proposed would have prevented tragedies like Sandy Hook. Nothing being proposed will compel criminals to comply with gun laws. Nothing being proposed will make America and safer. In fact, Americans will be less safe. Studies support the notion than violent crime is considerable less when citizens are allowed to be armed. Just look at Chicago, Detroit, etc. Places with the strictest gun laws are the most violent. The most revealing motive for gun control lies in the plan not to disarm protection details for politicians, celebrities, and other “important” people. Are their lives worth more than than ordinary Americans? They plan to continue being protected by body armed guards. And they wont be armed with rocks and arrows. Nope. We are created equal! Even Obama stated hero, Abe Lincoln, believed this. Evil is in the world. Gun laws won’t banish evil. Evil does bad things. There is only once answer for evil and Obama and his agenda are not it!

  This is really silly. Around 60% of gun sales today are through licensed dealers who are required to do background checks. So why isn’t the government confiscating those guns already? If 70% of gun sales required background checks, would they then start taking your guns away? 80%?
  
  Besides – and tell me if I’m wrong here – wouldn’t the government have to pass legislation outlawing guns you already own? First of all, no one is seriously proposing that. Second, this legislature is incapable of passing virtually any law, let alone one like that. And you can be certain that most Democrats would oppose such a measure and equally certain the Supreme Court would strike down any law of that kind.

  Actually you might want to read some stuff from Feinstein in the past, and see that she would outlaw everything if given the chance.

  If you check history, nations that confiscated all firearms first forced all citizens to register them. Once registered, the government has a list of where to start.
  
  As far as the Supreme Court striking anything down, we all knew that Obama care is not constitutional, but we see what the court did with it.

  We also notice that liberals that want out rifles, ignore the real facts on gun violence. Facts like knowing that 50% of murders are done by the 12.5% black population, and they are generally killing other blacks. Their weapon of choice is the cheap hand gun, and rifles are used in less than 4% of all murders. They are marketing the “mental health check” state and federal because as soon as it becomes law the administration/ Sibelius HHS is going to change the standard for what is a mental illness.
The leak about the plan is coming out. Mental illnesses can/ shall be like any Veteran that has been in a conflict theater, Anyone that has been arrested for resisting arrest, divorced under certain conditions, arguing with school or other public officials, threatening (as they see it) blog posts all will fall under a mental illness allowing government to restrict gun rights plus more.

This has been made obvious by the Government’s sudden interest in “Mental Illness” as a factor in violent crime but their omission of, and disinterest in the role that violent video games and violent media have played in contributing to the mental illness of violent criminals. It’s all about the “gun grab”. And as soon as laws are passed that are stringent enough to be binding, the government will redefine “mental illness”. Not only will former military people be targeted for denial of their second amendment rights but most likely so will anyone who fundamentally disagrees with the socialist agenda. So you would rather have the world overpopulated than support a woman’s right to have an abortion…then you must be mentally ill. So you would deny homosexuals their personal happiness by denying them the right to adopt children…then you must be mentally ill.   There are numerous court cases where psychologists, and psychiatrists, as expert witnesses that have testified (under oath) that they cannot predict human behavior accurately at all.
  
  The so-called “professionals” are the very *last* people that should be listened to by the courts or government related to mental illness and a person’s capacity to exercise their rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

After all is said and done on this subject, the federal government will disarm the law abiding American Citizen. Yes, a lot of us will be dead and we will have taken a lot of those who come to disarm us with us. But in the end, the government will get what they want. I hope that those of us who choose to defend ourselves and our country against this tyranny will someday be remembered as true patriots to those left behind that may rise up against the task masters and finally bring back an America that is the land of the free and the home of the brave.   Maybe the younger generations could adapt to a Total Socialist America. But I could not.
  After knowing what America used to be like, I couldn’t live with myself for doing nothing.
  I realize this sounds like a lot of bravado. But it’s not. For some reason I always go with the underdog.

  After all is said and done on this subject, the federal government will disarm the law abiding American Citizen. Yes, a lot of us will be dead and we will have taken a lot of those who come to disarm us with us. But in the end, the government will get what they want.

  Yes TSUNAMI_22. The British did fail and we became free. My concern is the majority do not understand that part of history or have not been taught it. Ignorance breeds ignorance, and that is what we can now see in the children of America. Our government has learned from the failure of the British of long ago. Now, instead of taking arms against us, they have disarmed us with the children of America to believe that self preservation and American ideals are wrong. Can we win against those brainwashed? I don’t know.   It would almost be worth losing if/when the time comes….Can you imagine a society made up of exclusively leaches on society, community organizers, bums, politicians, etc. (ie the current Democra/Communist party). I find it very puzzling, that the press and liberals on the left do not leave this issue alone, could it be because of pressure from the Clinton global initiative, which could be nothing more than the manipulation of America from foreign powers of darkness?

We can summarize this phenomena by calling media a new term, comedia? WWE makes fun of the tea party? SNL makes fun of Jesus and guns? What if 100% of law abiding citizens were Christians, would that make a lot of sense? What if, John B. Wells, suggests, drug buys are not fueled by US consumers buying them, the government is? As long as secrecy and the NDAA sort of things exist, you have lost your ability to rule your lives?

Call me mad, or call me inspired by Sherlock Holmes? The book “Zion — Seeking the City of Enoch” includes an interesting appendix, of a little known vision given by an angel to George Washington himself? Let me quote:

pg 255, “Three great perils will come upon the Republic. The most fearful for her is the third. But the whole world united shall not prevail against her. Let every child of the Republic learn to live for his God, his land and Union.”

Interesting book, such things lend themselves to both literal and metaphors? There is a huge difference between seeking wealth to become wealthy and becoming all you can be, which allows peer pressure to advocate how all can elevate their position, rather than accept a distribution of poverty?

  Already about 60% of gun purchases – any gun sales by registered dealers – require a background check. The other 40% are sold privately, potentially to felons, murderers, Al-quaeda members, pedophiles, rapists and Satanists like Media. Where do you think the bad guys get all their guns? From that 40% of people selling guns without the requirement of a background check. So Wayne LaPierre is against background checks, something supported by NRA members, and overwhelmingly supported by Americans.
  
  His argument is that background checks will lead, in a slippery slope way to the CONFISCATION OF YOUR GUNS! I guess we in the United States have to sell guns to felons, murderers, Al-quaeda members, pedophiles, rapists, otherwise the government will take away everyone’s guns.

People want to call me an extremist now days for standing up for what i believe in, what our country was founded on, and the rights and liberties the constitution gaurantees us. And I the extremist for not believing one word of this filthy administration and their attack on our freedoms? Who are these brainwashed, anti-American, soulless from liberty idiots?
I am proud to say that I possess a lifetime membership of the NRA. They are far from a perfect organization, but they just might be the last organization left in the world that still doesn’t buy into liberal/progressive party garbage, hates Obama and stands against him and speaks the truth. How many organizations step into the limelight, take the heat and dont back down, and stand to support God, Country, and Family. That is way more than my lifetime membership cost me….because its priceless.

FYI there are 44+ gun mfgs not selling to 2A restrictive states. Thats al fine and good but what we need is the AMMUNITION mfgs to get on board with this “boycott”. Too many gun/ weapon mfgs out there and without the big three on board its not going to be effective. WE MUST get the ammo makers to tell states and feds NO! If you are calling, writing etc to gun mfgs please stop and redirect your efforts to the ammo mfgs, they truly hold the key to this entire debate. Guns are useless without ammo whether its for you and I or govt agencies!

  If any legislation does come up for a vote at any time, any elected politician who votes in favor for any form of gun control must be removed from office immediately and prosecuted for violating their oath of office!!! This is non-negotiable!!!

Gun control enables violent crime. This fact can be proven by seeing the states that enforces gun control have the worst violent crim rates in the USA. Red states that complies with the second amendment have the lowest to virtual no crime.

  It doesn’t take a genius to feel the pulse of America right now and figure out that in this case gun control could cause widespread violent crime, insurrection or civil war. My 75 year old mother even brought that up to me the other day and she is a hard core democrat that only watches CNN and MSNBC. It’s a big part of why we don’t talk much, I’m definitely not a lefty.

Disarming the law-abiding American Citizen will not stop so called “gun violence”. The only thing disarming the law-abiding American Citizen will cause is the Law abiding American Citizen becoming slaves to the governments every whim. With that said, once the law abiding is disarmed the government will control every other aspect of the Citizen. I find it hard to believe those for disarming cannot see the forest for the trees. How can people be so stupid to believe government control will not touch their lives.
