‘By All Means, Leave’: The Amazingly Blunt Response One State Rep. Gave a Citizen Who Wrote Him Opposing Concealed Carry in Schools

Wyoming state Representative Hans Hunt told one resident, “by all means, leave.”
Get out of here.
That was one Wyoming state representative’s message to a resident who contacted him recently stating her opposition to a bill that would have allowed people with concealed carry permits to carry guns in public schools, colleges and sporting events.
Rev. Audette Fulbright had emailed all state legislators, including Republican Rep. Hans Hunt, earlier this month to say she and her husband had just moved to Wyoming and were “seriously reconsidering” their decision amid the proposed expansion of gun laws.
“Ample evidence has shown that schools and guns do not mix, and in particular, guns in the hands of amateurs/non-professionals is extremely dangerous, especially in any highly-charged situation,” Fulbright wrote. “To expose our children to greater risk in their schools by encouraging more guns on campuses is something that we cannot allow.”
Fulbright also said she was concerned about “the profoundly serious dangers of fracking” and said the question of whether to leave was “wrenching to all of us.”
“I know of other new-to-Wyoming families in similar contemplation. Your choices matter. It would be sad to see an exodus of educated, childrearing age adults from Wyoming as a result of poor lawmaking,” she wrote.
Hunt’s response? “By all means, leave.”
“I’ll be blunt,” he wrote back. “If you don’t like the political atmosphere of Wyoming, then by all means, leave. We, who have been here a very long time (I am proudly 4th generation) are quite proud of our independent heritage.”
Fulbright is not one of Hunt’s constituents, but he was one of just two lawmakers who responded to her letter. The other, state Rep. Mary Throne (D), said the bill had moved to committee and to contact committee members. It has since been shot down by legislators.
Fulbright told the Casper Star-Tribune her family moved from Virginia in July to have access to better schools and a beautiful environment.
“Apparently I have to live here a certain amount of time before I have an opinion,” she told the newspaper.
Hunt, who was the youngest member of the Wyoming legislature when he was elected in 2010 didn’t back down from his response.
“Was it blunt? Yes. Would I apologize? No,” Hunt told the Star-Tribune. He said later: “If I had to do it again, would I sit and think about how to phrase my words more carefully? Probably.”

Fulbright’s email:
Dear Representative,
I hope you are taking care of yourself during this busy session. I know it is a challenging, compressed time.
I am writing to express my grave concern about House Bill 105. Ample evidence has shown that schools and guns do not mix, and in particular, guns in the hands of amateurs/non-professionals is extremely dangerous, especially in any highly-charged situation. to expose our children to greater risk in their schools by encouraging more guns on campuses is something that we cannot allow.
My husband and I moved to Wyoming not too long ago. We believed it was a good place to raise children. With the recent and reactive expansion of gun laws and the profoundly serious dangers of fracking, we find we are seriously reconsidering our decision, which is wrenching to all of us. However, the safety of our family must come first. We are waiting to see what the legislature does this session. I know of other new-to-Wyoming families in similar contemplation. Your choices matter. It would be sad to see an exodus of educated, childrearing age adults from Wyoming as a result of poor lawmaking.
sincerely,
Rev. Audette Fulbright
Hunt’s response:
Rev. Fulbright,
I’ll be blunt. If you don’t like the political atmosphere of Wyoming, then by all means, leave. We, who have been here a very long time (I am proudly 4th generation) are quite proud of our independent heritage. I don’t expect a “mass exodus” from our state just because we’re standing up for our rights. As to your comments on fracking, I would point out that you’re basing your statement on “dangers” that have not been scientifically founded or proved as of yet.
It offends me to no end when liberal out-of-staters such as yourself move into Wyoming, trying to get away from where they came from, and then pompously demand that Wyoming conform to their way of thinking. We are, and will continue to be, a state which stands a head above the rest in terms of economic security. Our ability to do that is, in large part, to our “live and let live” mentality when it comes to allowing economic development, and limiting government oversight. So, to conclude, if you’re so worried about what our legislature is working on, then go back home.
Sincerely,
Hans Hunt

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:55pmwell said Hans. If your crap state is so bad than by all means feel free to move to a crap free zone, but, leave your crap mentality back in the crap state from which you came. Sounds simple. Simple is good.

We kicked the Rev’s a** out but didn’t tell her where to go. We have our trouble spots (mostly Northern VA) but we’ve got the same influx of rabble from NY and NJ as some other reds. You might check the stats on the Old Dominion’s gun rights environment before ya go associating us with a hellhole.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:49pmThis is a classic example of people who leave a state because they don’t like it there. Then when they get to WY or UT or ID, where the quality of life is tremendous, immediately begin turning it into what they left. Leave or adapt. We made it a nice place to live. You need to accept the way it is.

By all means go back any/all who move to get out of their own self-produced H*LL hole community/state, but yet want everyone else to conform/change to be a place just like the one they left even though they supported/created and helped DESTROY it. That’s that “transformation of America” for ya!
Too bad he can’t kick them out! He is spot on!

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:48pmI hate it when the nanny liberals come into a free and conservative and fiscally responsible state and try to make it like the place they left. They are a progressive disease like a cancer infecting our faith, freedom, and constitution, constantly eating away at our God given right!

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:48pmI met Rep. Hunt recently at a dinner function. Quiet, reserved, and to the point. He listened more than he spoke. His response to this out of state rabble-rouser was one of the best I’ve ever heard. We usually let the winter and the wind get rid of those who can’t hack it here. Sounds like the good Rev. would be happier elsewhere. Go stir it up somewhere else.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:46pmRev. Audette Fulbright is the same kind of person who buys land and builds a home next to a pig farm, then complains to “officials” about the stink. Were I Rep. Hunt, I would not even consider re-wording my response, it was written perfectly. Wyoming should really be more careful about who they allow into their state. Otherwise they’ll be progressively transformed into yet another whimpass liberal state of weenies.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:45pmIt amazes me that liberals can’t see that they are the problem when fleeing an area that their own values ruined, then they try to impose their values on the new area. Hey Lib, there is a reason why the things are better where you want to go. You weren’t there to screw it up!!

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:45pmThis is the problem states are facing. Liberal states that are screwed up and driving their population out and those people are moving to less liberal states because of the better living conditions and then complain because it is not liberal enough. California’s ignorant population has been moving into surrounding states for years and ruining them. Driving up prices and taxes. Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado are being ruined by CA morons who bring their leftist crap with them.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 2:28pmSo very true…WA state is controlled by 2 counties around Seattle…countless liberal morons moved up from Southern CA and have ruined our beautiful state. 2 liberal counties make our whole state blue…very frustrating for those of us who love a state that is now one of the most socialist, unfriendly to businesses states in the union. They want to destroy our dams (we actually still have relatively cheap energy because of hydropower), meter and tax our private wells, and tax us into oblivion. Rep Hans Hunt is truly a breath of fresh air…may his tribe increase!

Hope more Conservatives follow this lead and save our country

A neighborhood in my city is facing a similar situation. The area is called Butchertown, though only one of the old slaughterhouse and meatpacking companies still exists. The smell generated by this factory is…interesting. Thus, house-prices in Butchertown are very low, driving in loads of young people and those with limited money to spend. They knew what Butchertown was before they moved into the area, but are now pushing to shut down the factory as a nuisance to the neighborhood.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:39pmAlthough I think Hans’response was rather blunt, he certainly expressed feelings a lot of us have in protecting our families. How are we to defend ourselves??? Reasoning with certain people does not work and I much rather protect myself with a gun than with a lot of empty words. It settles things real quick!

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:38pmDear Mr. Hunt,
My husband, who works in the oil fields of California, and I have been actively working to find a job which will get us out of this liberal state and into Wyoming. Although Obama is still the president in Wyoming at least we will be out of a state that doubles down on his idiocy. We like your laws there in Wyoming and will be bring our guns and young kids there in order to live more free and raise our children in a freer place. Bring on the freedom to carry and the fracking and keep up the good work.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:37pmTwo visions of the world remain locked in dispute. The first believes all men are created equalby a loving God who has blessed us with freedom. Abe Lincoln spoke for us “No man is good enough to govern us without the others consent”.
The second vision believes that religion is opium for the masses. It believes that eternal principles like Truth, Liberty and Democracy have no meaning beyond the whim of the state And Lenin spoke for them,”It is true that liberty is precious, so precious that it must be rationed”.
Well, I’ll take Lincoln’s version over Lenin’s—–and so will citizens of the world if given free choice.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:36pmI moved from Sacramento to Dallas 7 years ago. During the last gubernatorial election I met a couple who’d just moved from the Davis, Ca to Ft. Worth because they couldn’t find teaching jobs in Ca. They hadn’t even been in town long enough to have Texas plates on their Honda Fit and Toyota Pious parked libly in the driveway, yet they already had a “White for Governor” lawnsign.
IOW they felt the guy who provided them a place to which they could escape wasn’t doing a good job and they wanted more of what they escaped.
Liberalism is essentially a secular Religion, and liberals are impervious to facts… the more obvious the more immune they are.
The good news is they’re EASY to beat in the marketplace where results count.
One simply needs to learn how to harvest them.
In this case I charged them 50% more than I would’ve otherwise. I acted snobbish and self-righteous about my outrageous pricing and they s u c k e d i t u p!!!
So just libfee ‘em and move on.
