‘By All Means, Leave’: The Amazingly Blunt Response One State Rep. Gave a Citizen Who Wrote Him Opposing Concealed Carry in Schools

Wyoming state Representative Hans Hunt told one resident, “by all means, leave.”
Get out of here.
That was one Wyoming state representative’s message to a resident who contacted him recently stating her opposition to a bill that would have allowed people with concealed carry permits to carry guns in public schools, colleges and sporting events.
Rev. Audette Fulbright had emailed all state legislators, including Republican Rep. Hans Hunt, earlier this month to say she and her husband had just moved to Wyoming and were “seriously reconsidering” their decision amid the proposed expansion of gun laws.
“Ample evidence has shown that schools and guns do not mix, and in particular, guns in the hands of amateurs/non-professionals is extremely dangerous, especially in any highly-charged situation,” Fulbright wrote. “To expose our children to greater risk in their schools by encouraging more guns on campuses is something that we cannot allow.”
Fulbright also said she was concerned about “the profoundly serious dangers of fracking” and said the question of whether to leave was “wrenching to all of us.”
“I know of other new-to-Wyoming families in similar contemplation. Your choices matter. It would be sad to see an exodus of educated, childrearing age adults from Wyoming as a result of poor lawmaking,” she wrote.
Hunt’s response? “By all means, leave.”
“I’ll be blunt,” he wrote back. “If you don’t like the political atmosphere of Wyoming, then by all means, leave. We, who have been here a very long time (I am proudly 4th generation) are quite proud of our independent heritage.”
Fulbright is not one of Hunt’s constituents, but he was one of just two lawmakers who responded to her letter. The other, state Rep. Mary Throne (D), said the bill had moved to committee and to contact committee members. It has since been shot down by legislators.
Fulbright told the Casper Star-Tribune her family moved from Virginia in July to have access to better schools and a beautiful environment.
“Apparently I have to live here a certain amount of time before I have an opinion,” she told the newspaper.
Hunt, who was the youngest member of the Wyoming legislature when he was elected in 2010 didn’t back down from his response.
“Was it blunt? Yes. Would I apologize? No,” Hunt told the Star-Tribune. He said later: “If I had to do it again, would I sit and think about how to phrase my words more carefully? Probably.”

Fulbright’s email:
Dear Representative,
I hope you are taking care of yourself during this busy session. I know it is a challenging, compressed time.
I am writing to express my grave concern about House Bill 105. Ample evidence has shown that schools and guns do not mix, and in particular, guns in the hands of amateurs/non-professionals is extremely dangerous, especially in any highly-charged situation. to expose our children to greater risk in their schools by encouraging more guns on campuses is something that we cannot allow.
My husband and I moved to Wyoming not too long ago. We believed it was a good place to raise children. With the recent and reactive expansion of gun laws and the profoundly serious dangers of fracking, we find we are seriously reconsidering our decision, which is wrenching to all of us. However, the safety of our family must come first. We are waiting to see what the legislature does this session. I know of other new-to-Wyoming families in similar contemplation. Your choices matter. It would be sad to see an exodus of educated, childrearing age adults from Wyoming as a result of poor lawmaking.
sincerely,
Rev. Audette Fulbright
Hunt’s response:
Rev. Fulbright,
I’ll be blunt. If you don’t like the political atmosphere of Wyoming, then by all means, leave. We, who have been here a very long time (I am proudly 4th generation) are quite proud of our independent heritage. I don’t expect a “mass exodus” from our state just because we’re standing up for our rights. As to your comments on fracking, I would point out that you’re basing your statement on “dangers” that have not been scientifically founded or proved as of yet.
It offends me to no end when liberal out-of-staters such as yourself move into Wyoming, trying to get away from where they came from, and then pompously demand that Wyoming conform to their way of thinking. We are, and will continue to be, a state which stands a head above the rest in terms of economic security. Our ability to do that is, in large part, to our “live and let live” mentality when it comes to allowing economic development, and limiting government oversight. So, to conclude, if you’re so worried about what our legislature is working on, then go back home.
Sincerely,
Hans Hunt

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:18pmWhat is so problematic about Hunts responce? The responce I get from dummycraps are at least as blunt and more to the point of “I don’t really care what you think” but thanks. At least Mr Hunt was honest with the rev. More than I’ve gotten from any dummycrap.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:16pmIn most instances the first thing folks moving to “flee” their former states do is make the place they move to like the place they fled. Witness Colorado. We have been Californicated and the liberals rule. Seven counties dictate to the other fifty seven. What a great response to a wining liberal wanting to make Wyoming wherever she came from. Its too late for us in Colorado but it looks like there may be hope for Wyoming in the person of Representative Hunt. Tell them all to go back where they came from and leave Wyoming one of the last free states. The conservatives that are still here in Colorado are pulling for you. (We envy your freedom fighters AND we are going to need a place to go, that’s close, to buy high capacity magazines.)

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:15pmThe “traditional Constitutionalist” Rep., Hans Hunt just said what 80% Americans are about. HE GETS IT. He bleeds red, white and blue. The Rev., definitely needs to move……….OUT OF AMERICA!!! Try Britain or Australia. NO GUNS there. Violent crime up by 44% in Australia since the pompous politicians NEUTERED the nation. Britain it is also up and its ceaseless, even though they have cameras everywhere looking up your$^$^. Old queeny Lizzie gets her knickers in a knot though when the “Family” gets photo scrutinized. She special don’t you know. NOT IN THE EYES OF GOD LIZZIE…..you are no better than the guy with the tener in his pocket that you are spying on.
Rev.,you and Lizzie should get on well.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 3:36pmA typical liberal. Running away from exactly the situation they created in the first place. And in typical liberal fashion when leaving the train wreck they created and resuming life somewhere else they immediately go about demanding that everyone established there ideology and lifestyle. The very same lifestyle and ideals that that turned their last home into a hell hole. Liberalism is truly a mental disorder as evidenced by their inability to ever consider for just one moment that they may possibly be wrong. It is also a well established fact that despite how much actual proof to the contrary that their way is better they will still insist, by force if necessary, to impose their will on others. Then when their ideals become harmful they exempt themselves and justify it by claiming to have the intellectual high ground and thus are able to responsibly handle the freedoms they deny everyone else. You have to hand it to them though. They are unmovable and unwavering in their convoluted irrational mindset, unlike the rest of us that, like a bunch of nerds we tried to be popular in high school by doing things we know weren’t right. The biggest whopper we fell for and the most destructive was the “Tolerance Attack”. Oh how we bet over backwards to prove that we were tolerant. That opened the door and eventually legitimized the very things that now threaten our, economy, our country, our security & safety, our long established customs, our religions, our (CONTINUED)

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 4:14pm(CONTINUATION) in direct conflict with the very reason for the country’s founding, that being, this is the land of immigrants. So open the flood gates and let them all in. It doesn’t matter that these “immigrants” might actually hate your country and are only here to take what you have. No, doesn’t matter that they possess the intellect of a gerbil and will be a drain on society for the rest of their lives. And who cares if they are mass murders, habitual drunks, rapists, and career criminals. Rather than suffer the torture routine our government officials keep right on letting them in. Ladies and gentleman quit falling for this crap. It’s called politics and politics have wrecked this country. Politics has evolved into an apparatus in which a politician insures their continued political survival by buying votes with your tax dollars and increasing their bank accounts. If but one more law be passed and implemented shall it be the illegalization of the politics and those that engage in the highly illegal activity and practice of career politics.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:11pmYep, time to keep liberals out of the rest of out country–look what they did to Colorado. Anothe state that used to have decent schools and a beautiful environment until the rich Californians and NY’ers moved in and demanded that it be run like, well, California and New York. Time to stop the invasion of freeloaders and the braindead with too much money.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:09pmI wish more legislators would grow one. It seems that during election time they all pretend to have one but the reality after being elected proves otherwise. If you remember the old Saturday Night Live TV program you’ll understand. No, not the awful mess it has become, but the old shows with Chevy Chase, Gilda Radnor, Belushi, Curtain, and all the others. The particular skit that that has something in common with so many legislators & generally most elected officials is the Nerd family. Jane Curtain played the mother and she would often refer to her late husband like this, “Poor Mr. Lubner, he was born with out a spine you know”. It’s good to see this Rev. Fulbright definitely has one and uses it to stand firm as opposed to so many that quiver in bowl like day old jello.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 1:03pmIsn’t that always the way it is. A woman from Virginia moves to Wyoming to enjoy it’s beauty and conservative freedom and what’s the first thing she wants to do…..change Wyoming to Virginia from where she left . This type of thinking is what has to be rejected just as did. It’s too bad we don’t have more legislators who tell the blunt truth. I’m from Los Angeles. Illegal immigrants flocked to LA because of the opportunities and to flee the corruption of Mexico. So they get to LA join La Raza (The Race, obviously a racist organization) and the first thing they demand is that California be given back to the Mexico where there’s little opportunity and rampant corruption so California can have the same “benefits” as those living in Mexico. Am I missing something here.
Liberals move to conservative states because of the quality of life and taxes and then immediately try to turn it into a liberal state. These people are worst kind of hypocrites. By all means Ms. Not-really-Fullybright, go back to Virginia.

This current group in D.C. has no interested in preserving any part of our heritage; they want to bury it and write their own version of it.

That’s the thing with Liberal People. They think if you don’t agree with them, then you’re not allowing them to voice their opinion.

Posted on February 24, 2013 at 12:56pm“Apparently I have to live here a certain amount of time before I have an opinion,” she told the newspaper.
The woman is a typical leftist creating a straw man argument. If the premise of her statement was true, she wouldn’t have been able to express her opinion. Rep. Hunt’s invitation to leave didn’t stop her from “having an opinion”, or expressing it. He was just letting her know that if she feels so strongly, she can “vote with her feet”.
It amazes me how many of these leftists, like many illegal aliens leave their home states or countries and move to a place that is better, only to then want to change their new home to the same policies that were so destructive in their original location. They NEVER learn!
I live in a very conservative state. A year ago, some lefties in our state expressed their expectation that some day, they would outnumber conservatives and then force their will upon everyone. I invited them to move to a state, like perhaps the People’s Republic of California, or the Police State of New York, where their attitudes are predominant. They took umbrage to my “invitation”. Too bad!
Rep. Hunt wasn’t being impolitic. He was being honest! In Wyoming, which is a neighboring state to mine, I suspect most of his constituents agree with HIM!
Message to Fulbright: Don’t let the door hit you in the fanny on your way out! Just don’t move to THIS state, either!
