Guess Which Popular Republican Governor Will Not Be ‘Invited’ to CPAC…

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie describes plans Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, in Lavallette, N.J., while making an announcement on the reconstruction of Route 35, a major shore highway that was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Christie says more than $200 million in federal funds will be used to rebuild a 12.5-mile storm-damaged stretch of Route 35. Under an aggressive timetable he says completion is expected by the summer of 2015. Credit: AP
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whose job approval rests at 74 percent, has not been invited to speak at CPAC 2013, an annual gathering of conservatives from across the country. The blue state Republican governor is considered by many to be one of the GOP’s presidential candidates in 2016.
Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) are all scheduled to speak at this year’s CPAC gathering — but Christie was snubbed. According to a source close to the event, the popular governor has not and will not be invited.
As Politico notes, Christie drew the ire of some conservatives for heaping praise on President Barack Obama for his efforts following Superstorm Sandy. Christie has also spoke out about addressing climate change and has been perceived as not pro-gun enough for some conservatives.
More from Politico:
On the one hand, it spares Christie — who’s running for reelection in a blue state — the agita of having to make an appearance that Democrats would use against him in 2013. On the other, it underscores that some conservatives still are angry over the post-Sandy performance, as well as his tongue-lashing of House Speaker John Boehner for tabling a bill to provide storm aid.
CPAC officials decided not to invite former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in 2007. Like Christie, Giuliani was pro-choice but was perceived as too far to the left on social issues by some conservatives.
CPAC officials say the speaker line-up is still being finalized.
“We still have three weeks to CPAC and have several more announcements to go,” Communications Director Laura Keehner Rigas told ABC News. “I encourage everyone to hold tight.”
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Romney kept saying he’s a good man just over his head. so some people based on that gave obama a second chance. i believe the last two elections were thrown to get and keep obama in the white house. first black prez has to have two terms. and did you see the latest video in chicago of the black youth mob outside a mall? this country is in big trouble and in danger of a race war.

Christie can be the king of jersey….Just as long as the republican party does not make him entitled to run as president of all of america – because what is good for jersey is not good for virginia. We learned this with Mitt Romney – who was also good for a liberal state but bad for america

The paul-bots would rather the whole ship sink than compromise on a single issue. As far as they are concerned, if we don’t go 100% libertarian, we might as well be communists. That makes it real hard to get anyone right-of-center elected.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 12:09pm@termyt,
Oh eat it. “Two elections in a row and you have let the progressives pick the Republican nominee.” You concede that the Republican Party is picking losers and liberals.
In the second paragraph you blame libertarians for not abiding by YOUR progressive picks! The primary is where we pick the BEST candidate, well if Romney, McCain and Bush were our best then the Republican Party needs shaken up. That is exactly what is happening.
I went to a conference for the Washington State Republican Party where the message was “compromise” – they actually brought in speakers saying we really need to consider moving left as that is the direction of the country. I find it absurd.
Don’t blame libertarians for your sorry picks. Libertarians picked Ron Paul or Gary Johnson in the primary. The majority of Republicans outside of us “Paul-bots” picked Mitt Romney. The establishment picked the loser of the General Election – period. Blame the good ole’ boys for the bad primary pick and the general election loss – don’t blame libertarians.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 1:09amI have worked with and personally know Charlie Crist and Jeb Bush. Crist has always been a pragmatist and not an ideologue in any way shape or form. He was a Dem before he was a Rep, so the flip is actually a flop. Jeb is an ideologue with common sense and the ability to get things done…meaning he knows how to make a deal and work across the aisle. The thing is, and I’ve heard this for years among the ultra conservative, they might as well be the same guy. Jeb is considered too moderate even though his record is conservative and successful. Crist was even more successful, depending on what interests you have, as Florida’s governor but for some reason, Rubio got to claim all the success that Crist achieved because he was running the house. Now you guys say Scott is too moderate because he agreed to take federal money and stopped being a complete idiot about obamacare?!?! You do understand that florida is decided by the old people who need healthcare don’t you? That was the only successful thing he has done as governor, everything else has cut necessary services for the needy and cut taxes on the rich and the corporations. Do you even live in Florida? Last time I checked Scott had 60% disapproval, and this was before he took obama money. That state is falling apart, and he installed more tea party policy than any other governor in the country. My theory is that he is trying to get all the poor/needy/disabled/raped people to move out of the state by being hostile to them.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 12:57amJust wondering, do you all agree with one another on every policy issue? Your rigidity will be your downfall…I mean, it has been your downfall. Imho, Christie is everything a politician should be, in that he doesn’t appear to lie, does what he thinks is right and serves the best interests of his constituents. I cannot think of one other politician that is currently serving anywhere in this country that I would say that about. He vetoed gay marriage, I personally disagree, but I don’t think he was trying to earn votes by doing it. He vetoed a raise in the minimum wage, same thing. While my judgment is fallible, it won’t be determined by who is the best at showing blind obedience to an ideology in spite of all evidence to the contrary. One thing is for sure, dems are very happy that you are flushing away your chances in ’16. Your grand ole party is one step closer to being the grand ole taliban…politics has always been about compromise, are any of you hard-liners capable of that?

Our problem, so it seems, is not electing a “good” politician, for I don’t think that one can be found. Our problem is not electing a statesman – rarer still. If we don’t find one soon, we won’t be around much longer, for the likes of Obama and a Hillary Clinton will destroy every vestige or freedom and liberty that we have left. These kind are progressive liberals and are the worse kind, having a highly exalted opinion of themselves with little or no character or integrity and no real interest in the preservation of America and her values or the well being of the American people.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 10:50pmYou’re good with Ron Paul, but Ryan and Rubio are establishment light (i.e. they talk a good conservative game but they vote how Boehner and McConnell tell them to more often than not). Ryan and Rubio vote consistently to expand the militarism and diminish our liberty at home voting for legislation like internet censorship and indefinite detention of Americans without due process. They also have a habit of voting for trillions in debt ceiling increases.
Did some research on Rubio’s Americans For Prosperity rating of 100% whereas Rand Paul only scored around 90%. You’d think based on this, Rubio is more conservative than Rand, right? Well, no. The reason Rand was scored down was that he voted twice against Paul Ryan’s budget that would balance the budget by 2040, a mere 27 years from now. Rubio voted for it and thus is judged as a better conservative than Paul.
Americans for Prosperity should lose every ounce of credibility they once had for this sham of a scorecard. If you think we have 27 years to balance the budget without completely destroying the futures of millions of young people, you’re certifiably insane.
