New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie describes plans Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, in Lavallette, N.J., while making an announcement on the reconstruction of Route 35, a major shore highway that was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Christie says more than $200 million in federal funds will be used to rebuild a 12.5-mile storm-damaged stretch of Route 35. Under an aggressive timetable he says completion is expected by the summer of 2015. Credit: AP
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whose job approval rests at 74 percent, has not been invited to speak at CPAC 2013, an annual gathering of conservatives from across the country. The blue state Republican governor is considered by many to be one of the GOP’s presidential candidates in 2016.
Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) are all scheduled to speak at this year’s CPAC gathering — but Christie was snubbed. According to a source close to the event, the popular governor has not and will not be invited.
As Politico notes, Christie drew the ire of some conservatives for heaping praise on President Barack Obama for his efforts following Superstorm Sandy. Christie has also spoke out about addressing climate change and has been perceived as not pro-gun enough for some conservatives.
More from Politico:
On the one hand, it spares Christie — who’s running for reelection in a blue state — the agita of having to make an appearance that Democrats would use against him in 2013. On the other, it underscores that some conservatives still are angry over the post-Sandy performance, as well as his tongue-lashing of House Speaker John Boehner for tabling a bill to provide storm aid.
CPAC officials decided not to invite former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in 2007. Like Christie, Giuliani was pro-choice but was perceived as too far to the left on social issues by some conservatives.
CPAC officials say the speaker line-up is still being finalized.
“We still have three weeks to CPAC and have several more announcements to go,” Communications Director Laura Keehner Rigas told ABC News. “I encourage everyone to hold tight.”

Feb. 26, 2013 at 10:14pmIt is unbelievable that Fox News RINO ex Bush supportors like Rove and Kruathammer and Perrino think that Chris Chrisy is a VIABLE GOP 2016 candidate. LOL LOL LOL Bush was TERRIBLE. McCain was WORSE. RomneyCare was worse than McCain. Chris Christy is the BIGGEST RINO to infect the GOP. I won’t vote for him – period. Screw the GOP – I am not falling for the “The dem” will win if you don’t vote for our liberal candidate. I fell for it again and again like Lucy and Charlie Brown. Fed up – no more.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 7:34pmChristie is a Republican not a conservative. So I am not sure what is the fuss about his not being invited to a gathering of conservatives. There are other venues for such as Christie. I can tell you though, if many conservatives stayed home for Romney, for Christie they may actually vote against him. Anyways, he would be cut off in the primaries. If his ego is as large a Perot’s, he will guarantee another Dem in the WH in 2016. Libs would get at least 60% of NJ voters if one of those “prestigious” dems gets it to the national ticket. Again, many-many-many conservatives stay home + all Dems vote democratic = another Dem win.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 7:26pmWhy would this be a surprise to anyone? Wouldn’t one need to be a Conservative to be invited to speak at CPAC? Christie is a Progressive, not conservative!

Feb. 26, 2013 at 7:15pmI give credit for Christy for thanking Obama after Hurricane Sandy. Whether Rep. or Dem. Obama showed up. That does not mean Christy likes Obama’s policies, far from it. Christy is a straight shooter. He says it like it is good or bad. If Christy was to become President you would not be hearing all the crap we are hearing now.
Christy and Congress would be camping-out till this Sequester thing was straightened out. He would not be acting like Obama sitting around wasting the last few hours for the other side to give in. This is disgraceful on both sides. The Middle Class will be the ones to suffer.
Forget Foreign Aid credit that money to the Citizens of the US let it pay for FREE HEALTHCARE. Its time we help ourselves. Take the financial burden off of our citizens.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 7:14pmNo wonder we are known as the Angry old white male mentality. So this means if u dont adhere exactly what the party wants you are out? There is no individuality on certain occasions. No matter if the country is at stake. We are going the way of the vatican.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 7:34pmNo, Christie just isn’t Conservative enough for CPAC. He has some rather liberal ideology… Like “gun control”. Why would you invite someone who’s angering conservatives to speak at CPAC? Now THAT would be out of touch!

Feb. 26, 2013 at 5:23pmChristie for president? I don’t think so. Karl Rove picking a candidate? Don’t make me laugh. The good old boys in the republican party seem to think that every conservative will need their okay to run. That will not happen. There are way too many people that are irked at the organization and what it has become. We have compromised too much already and yet they are preaching even more compromise. My suggestion to them is to just change the R by their name to D. It would be the honest and honorable thing to do.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 5:10pmI am a New Jersey resident but I am originally from America. I cannot say that I dislike everything that Christie does and I even like his style. That being said I will never vote for him. Believe me it is not because he does not look good in a bathing suit. I am a gun/natural rights enthusiast. My Second Amendment rights are not up for a debate and because of that Christie will never get my vote.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 4:58pmTubby here shouldn’t waste his time campaigning for 2016. What a goof ball imbecile. He should probably focus on his physical condition and get out of politics altogether, because I think everyone can see that the emperor is wearing no clothes. To masquerade as some sort of conservative at this point will be futile for him, even with Obama and Clinton campaigning for him in 2016 (if Hillary doesn’t run).

Feb. 26, 2013 at 4:57pmWhat a shock when he slobbered all over Obama, all he had to do was be cordial after all it’s the President’s job. Maybe it’s lucky he showed his true colors, we need a true conservative in the White House, not a RINO.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 3:21pmWhy would Chris Christie, who is not a Conservative, be invited to the Conservative Political Action Committee?
I’m not slamming the guy – I think he’s done a lot of great things for New Jersey – but people are forgetting what a Conservative is.
In simplest terms, it’s someone who wants to conserve the original intent of the Constitution; versus Liberalism, which wants to take a ‘liberal’ interpretation of the Constitution.
With that in mind, Gov Christie is a Republican by party affiliation, and shares SOME views with Conservatives, but is not himself Conservative. Just as many Democrats share some views with Communists, but are not themselves Communists (with exceptions, of course).

Feb. 26, 2013 at 1:23pmAmericans are tired, scared, aware that we’ve never been so screwed, and also aware we are being fed a million complex layers of deceit.
Americans are looking for even one or two people they can truly trust, and so far it’s not looking too good.
As far as I am concerned, based on what we know now that we didn’t four years ago, Chris Cristie disappeared into the pool of evil the day he made out with THAT MAN in the sky over people in dire need, for the sake of a cheap photo op, and stabbed Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, their entire campaign staff, and The American People (isn’t THAT phrase just beaten to death) right in the back.
He’s proven he cannot be trusted, way beyond the “climate change” hoax, and I hope it comes to pass that you simply don’t come back after a transgression of that magnitude.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 1:10pmI’m done with the republicans. I have always voted the party-line, but no more. I don’t care if my vote is a “loss” to the otherside. They’re all the same and they decide who will be the ruler so what does my vote count? I will vote my conscience and if that gets another “Democrat” in office, I don’t see the difference. They are ALL the same. They don’t give a crap about the taxpaying Ameican. All they care about is their power. We’re screwed no matter who the repubs run.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 12:21pmChristie was the hope for some Republicans in 2012. He’s known as a guy who doesn’t mince his words and tells it like it is. He has however, thankfully laid down his hand for all to see. He kissed up to Obama after the super storm Sandy decimated the East Coast close to the election. And has of late, been seen kissing up. There’s no way this man will be president now. He’s made his bed and so we say “good night”.
