Christian Teen Forced by School Officials to Change ‘Inappropriate’ Pro-Abstinence T-Shirt

Earlier this month, Summer Schreiner, a 15-year-old student at Clearlake Middle School in Cocoa, Fla., was told to change her pro-abstinence t-shirt after officials deemed it “inappropriate.” The teen acquired the shirt, which read, ”Don’t drink and park… accidents cause kids,” at a Christian conference she recently attended. But the message was apparently too offensive for education officials — so they took action.

“I got through lunch, and on my way back, the assistant principal tells me I need to go to the office and change my shirt,” she told WOFL-TV. ”I was pretty upset. I thought it was silly. It’s not like I was wearing a curse word or something that was promoting violence.”

Schreiner got the shirt at “The Silver Ring Thing,” an abstinence conference that is held in cities across the nation. During the event, teens pledge to wait until they’re married to have sex. In exchange for this promise, they get a silver ring.

WOFL-TV has more:

According to the young girl’s mother, Angela, the most humiliating part of the experience came when her daughter was asked to change into a shirt the school designates for students who do not have appropriate attire. The message on the new t-shirt read, “Tomorrow I will dress for success.”

The family found this particularly humiliating, because they believe Schreiner made a positive life choice at “The Silver Ring Thing” and that the t-shirt she originally wore simply reaffirmed that. In the words of her mother: ”It was really humiliating for her, because she came dressed for success.”

The school district has doubled-down on its decision to force the young girl to change her shirt, citing a dress code policy that disallows any clothing “which contains sexually explicit or oriented wording.” There is also a restriction on any dress that “infringes on the rights of others.”

The family disagrees that the shirt violates these standards, citing textbooks that educate students with similar messages as what was found on Schreiner’s shirt. District officials, though, remain unmoved by these arguments.

“This is not a situation of whether or not the district agrees or disagrees with sexual abstinence among teenagers,” explained Michele Irwin, director of communications for the district. “It’s about the fact there is sexual innuendo on the shirt, and so we believe it violated our dress code policy.”

Only liberals interpret the concept of abstinence as inappropriate. Liberal puppetmasters want young kids to be so totally screwed up by the drama of their own lives (uneducated, no skills, drug addicted, 15 kids with 15 different partners by the age of 25) so as to render them totally unable to have a voice or fight back in any way when the true face of liberalism is revealed in the very near future.

Yes, about HALF the population is in on an INCREDIBLY far-reaching conspiracy to PURPOSEFULLY pursue destructive policies in order to establish tyranny over a helpless population. Yeah, that doesn’t sound stupid, simplistic, or far-fetched at all–definitely the most likely and true explanation of American politics.

Which is ironic that you would suggest that is what LIBERALS want, when in fact abstinence only education (which is what Leftists have a problem with–understanding abstinence is just fine, it’s the refusal to teach anything BEYOND that that is the problem) is the single most LIKELY way to achieve the end result you are talking about (i.e. pregnant by 16).

My senior year in high school, I had a Poison concert t-shirt on, and made it halfway through the day before the vice-principal stopped me and made me go change. All it had on it was the title to their new album, “Open Up and Say Ahh!”

And YOUR PERVERTED message that 15 year old girls should have the RIGHT to be raped and molested by boys in school and sex education perverts gets NO SPECIAL TREatment either! HYPOCRITE!

I think adolescents have a right, and we a duty if we care about their well-being, to be informed of all the ramifications of sexuality, both good and bad, before they are at an age were they ARE forced to confront the difficult choices involved in sexuality and in an safe and open environment free from the influence of Puritans with an agenda informed by ancient archaic absolutist ‘moral’ prejudices who merely want to guilt and manipulate them into THEIR preconceived sex-negative notions about sexuality. Yes, adolescents DO need to be educated about the dangers of sexual violence, just as much as they DO need, and deserve, to be told about contraception, its relative effectiveness, the difficulties of pregnancy and child-rearing, the potential for venereal diseases and what kind of behavior make one more or less likely to contract them, and joy of sexual relationships with people who DO care about you and who you care about and how to avoid the kind of destructive sex-negative relationships people often fall into under our culture’s widespread policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell” when it comes to sex.

But I don’t know where you get this “right to be raped” garbage–the whole point of a holistic sex-positive approach to sex education would be to teach people to avoid those situations and to inculcate a view about sexuality that rejects rape as acceptable.

@ NEOZON : No, there is an Abstinence message on Summer’s shirt. You see, abstinence means No Sex. A left leaning, politically correct, socialist speaking Obamacrat could emply sexual content where there is none. Using the school district’s pregnancy / disease prevention methods would Gurantee Accidents = infection and / or pregnancy. Abstinence works Every Time. Parents AND Taxpayers must attend EVERY School Board Meeting and take your schools back. God Bless you Summer and every thinking, free individual out there in America.

Slightly, don’t you think? Schools teach sex education and, I’m sure, the right to choose for young women. This is an outrage! This school district should, then, be forced to remove all curriculum that has anything to do with sex.
    @Decendentof56:
You are darn right Grandma! THe PUBLIC SCHOOLS are full of perverted porn watching, merlot swilling SEX ADDICTED TEACHERs themselves who never CEASE to “PREACH” Safe Sex, as if there is such a thing. My son in 6th grade had the SLUTTIEST teachers ever! Always talking about Sex Education. They weaved the comments into any subject at any time. I have said this before. Get your kids OUT of PUBLIC SCHOOl! Full of perverts and child molesters!

hahahaha so wearing a shirt that advocates for abstinence is now ‘infringing on others rights.’ Ok, so in other words, reminding people that what their doing is wrong and thus making them ‘feel guilty’ is infringing on their right to ‘do something wrong free of guilt.’ ?? That’s the only rational I can think of to explain the absolute idiocy of that comment. Sorry progressives, logic beats you again!

This PC crap has to stop. It has removed all common sense from anyone in any higher position and made them powerless at the sake of possibly being offensive to one kid in a school of thousands.

And to further point out the hypocrisy, aren’t we supposed to be living in a world of: whatever turns you on is fine with me, just don’t invade my space? Isn’t there supposed to be tolerance for other people’s ideals?

Yeah, PROBABLY because in the world of conservative reactionary parents even the slightest HINT of a MENTION that they are allowing students to be exposed to the very fact of the EXISTENCE of, *GASP*, sex (god FORBID actually giving them pertinent information about it that might allow them to make informed reasonable choices FOR THEMSELVES) puts schools on edge. Fact of the matter is, the shirt had sexual and alcoholic references and many schools, with the Puritans breathing down their necks, tend to be really hesitant to allow that kind of thing. Do I think it’s dumb and inconsequential? Yes. But is it also the unsurprising product of a culture of widespread reactionary ignorance? Also yes.

“Pray tell Us ARchie what exactly is “reactionary ignorance?””
Reactionary ignorance is, inter alia, basing sex education policy on one’s emotional prejudices about sex, rather than a rational assessment of what’s in the best interests of the STUDENT.
“Is it because we don’t want our children to be dam SLUTS at 15 or what while you wouldn’t mind YOUR daughter to be deflowered at that age if she “fell in love?””
You can’t exert absolute control over your children, their choices, or the events that befall them. The best you can do is teach and prepare them to the best of your ability to make reasonable judgments. That is the essence of human excellence, virtue.
“Tell us about your 15 year old daughter? Do you even have one. I would like to know what is the difference between a T-shirt with words promoting abstinence and a T-shirt with words promoting ‘Gay Pride’? Both contain sexual ‘innuendos’. The difference is that one is ‘politically-correct’. Guess which one? These kinds of things would stop in our schools if like-minded parents would stand united and speak out against the infringements of our kids’ constitutional rights by these leftists educators. Don’t let the left control the narrative. Stand up and speak out!

How else will the libs replace Obama’s sons who have recently met their demise at the hands of a well armed homeowner? Can’t preach abstinence? What the hell is our country coming to?

Saw this joke on-line some where.

George Bush, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die and go to hell. While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for. The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth.
Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes. When he was finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars, so Putin writes him a check.
Next Queen Elizabeth calls England and talks for 30 minutes. When she was finished the devil informs her that cost is 6 million dollars, so Queen Elizabeth writes him a check.
Finally George Bush gets his turn and talks for 4 hours. When he was finished the devil informed him that there would be no charge for the call and feel free to call the USA anytime.
When Putin hears this he goes ballistic and asks the devil why Bush got to call the USA free. The devil replied, “Since Obama became president of the USA the country has gone to hell, so naturally it’s a local call.”

“there is sexual innuendo on the shirt, and so we believe it violated our dress code policy.” The innuendo was as G rated as it could be (I’ve heard jokes a lot more risque than that on reruns of 1950s sitcoms) and it supported a Christian principle. I suppose it violates the rights of those who get pregnant outside of wedlock to do just that. Oh well…….
