‘Oh My God’: Yes — The Oscars Really Did Have Michelle Obama Present the Best Picture Honors

Michelle Obama Presents Best Picture at the Oscars in Surprise Appearance

(Photo: Pete Souza/White House)

First Lady Michelle Obama made a surprise cameo at the Academy Awards Sunday night, joining Jack Nicholson to present the Oscar for best picture.

Her message was broadcast on a screen from the White House.

She told the cheering crowd (all subsequent emphasis added):

“Welcome to the White House, everyone.  I am so honored to help introduce this year’s nominees for best picture, and to help celebrate the movies that lift our spirits, broaden our minds, and transport us to places we have never imagined…

“These 9 movies took us back in time and all around the world.  They made us laugh, they made us weep, and they made us grip our arm rests just a little tighter.  They taught us that love can endure against all odds, and transform our lives in the most surprising ways.  And they reminded us that we can overcome any obstacle if we dig deep enough and fight hard enough and find the courage to believe in ourselves.  These lessons apply to all of us no matter who we are, or what we look like, or who we love…

After a short clip of the 9 contenders, Nicholson turned and faced the screen asking: “Mrs. Obama, do you have your envelope?”

“Not yet, Jack, but I’m about to,” she responded before announcing “Argo” as the best picture.

Nikki Finke, who is “live snarking” the Oscars for Deadline Hollywood, commented:

Oh My God: The Academy actually drafts First Lady Michelle Obama to help present Best Picture from presumably the White House? So unnecessary and inappropriate to inject politics into the Oscars yet again. Hollywood will get pilloried by conservative pundits tomorrow. I don’t understand this very obvious attempt to turn off right-leaning audiences. Clearly the studios only want to sell their movies to half of America.

Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin added:

Alas, none of the films nor her aides reminded her to mention the military, not those personnel behind her nor those serving overseas, an odd omission for the White House that nevertheless was pleased to have them arrayed behind her like, well, set decoration.

She did have time to give a crumb to the gay community, applauding the movies that inspire us â€no matter who we are or what we look like or who we love,†adding that “they are especially important for our young people.†(Except when they contain gruesome violence, traffic in stereotypes or use gratuitous profanity, I guess.) Real heroes, such as our servicemen and servicewomen, inspire us, too, I would think.

[...]

Still, it would have been grand if the lefty-maligned “Zero Dark Thirty†(which showed the nasty interrogation techniques her husband deplored) had won Best Picture. Unfortunately, that sort of perfect karma happens only in the movies.

Very much with you on that, Jackie. Unfortunately it will only get worse once Obama’s term is up. Then they both can devote themselves full time to being celebrities. Expect to see crap like this for decades to come as the Obamas are still fairly young. They will be pretty much inescapable.

This year, more than ever, the movies focused on the good things Government can do, and the dedication, hard work and sacrifice that our Military, CIA, Law Enforcement, Department of State, Office of the President and other red blooded American patriots have done to secure our freedom and safety – including President Lincoln’s ultimate gift to the Republic.

How fitting then, to see representatives of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps join our First Lady in a dignified and respectable salute to Argo, the pro-western dramatization of a 1980 CIA operation to pull six American diplomat corps fugitives out of Iran.

What a memorable motion picture! Anyone who served in overseas posts that year will feel an emotional chill when they see Argo; it reprises what is now a completely different, and often forgotten world. The events of 1980 led to the rise of President Ronald Reagan, bless his soul for all eternity.

Don’t forget, visit (or pause to pray for) your local combat wounded Vet!

You are more tolerant than me, Jackie. I didn’t watch more than one minute of the Oscars. (The one minute was when I was looking for something else, and saw the woman who won best actress fall up the stairs in her bigger than big gown. I don’t even know who she was, but it was fun to watch.) Then I changed away, thank goodness, because if I had been surprized by Moozilla, I would have lost my dinner.

I agree with a lot of you. Hollywood, the Obamas, progressive elites all go hand-in-hand. They prop each other up in a sort of symbiotic relationship. Then they control the masses with propaganda, lies, and freebies. To many they are our royal family, almost god-like. It makes me think of the king and queen standing on their balcony while the starving peasants below cheer. It is like most of this country lives in a fantasy world while the rest of us are awake watching this happen in amazement.

So Michelle Obama introducing the award, very fitting, not surprising. In fact Hollywood will probably present them with an award next. Very proud to say I didn’t watch one second of the awards. I don’t even think I saw but one or two movies this year. That is not my America. My America is drastically different: God, my family, church, and community. It is rooted in truth (however painful), our Constitution and God.

So, let’s knock off the nonsense about the dignity of the office. I ain’t a big fan of the Obamas but having Michelle hand out Best Picture was much less deceptive the Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” stunt about 10 years ago when the Iraq wart was FAR from over.

Obamas the one pushing math and engineering. The liberal arts are just a means to an ends. Americans pursue far too many useless liberal art degrees. They are useless and unemployable especially in a Marxist society. Most liberal art turds will be relegated to the civilian police force as they serve no usefull or sellable product. Russians couldn’t get dinner let alone tickets to a show.

Really? I’ve been an artist my entire life, and my husband and I ran an entertainment service connected company for 25 years. Both my son and daughter-in-law, have been in the “arts” for their entire lives. My husband and I divorced after a marriage of more than thirty years, but my son and daughter-in-law, and I, all live in Texas.

Also, many movies are made in Texas because it’s CHEAPER. Do they still make movie in Hollywood?

Funny you say that, considering the majority of red states have the lowest drop-out rates in high-school, the highest graduation rates, and some of the highest GPA for their students. Thus, what you say is actually not true of the majority of red states, and is more true for blue states.

Why is it our nation’s Leaders seem to be in a very bad reality TV show led by Obama and his wife and no matter what we do we can’t seem to vote off the villains because some executive wants the ratings. Maybe if we quit watching they’ll stop.

What an embarrassment! I seriously am embarrassed these people are in the Whitehouse. It’s sick to watch two virtual nobodies try so hard to be superstars when normally they would be teased for being nerdy dorks. My apology to nerdy dorks everywhere.

I feel the same way MASTRSGT. I feel that our “leader” and his wife should not be taking part in such nonsense and start focusing on our flipping country! It’s a SHAME and an EMBARRASSMENT!

We need to get rid of the electoral voting system to make sure such idiots don’t get in again! I’m sure if the electoral voting system was done away with, that everyone would vote. Including myself. I didn’t vote for this last election and when I checked the numbers, it wouldn’t have made a darn bit of difference had I gone and done it.

I can’t wait to see what phony gets voted in next! Too bad that all the good presidents get assassinated (Kennedy for wanting to get rid of the Federal Reserve) and those who should have been given a chance weren’t ie) Ron Paul.

I’m afraid that at the rate our country is going, that by the time people wake up and realize what is really going on, that it will be TOO LATE!

Seriously nauseous and disoriented . . .I thought that I was watching a Hollywood production of the Academy Awards and the Obama’s took over my tv, again! ‘Was just recovering from the dance video and now this. They are like moth’s to a flame whenever there is a huge television audience, no matter what the occassion . . . we can now expect to be hijacked by these two. And I really wanted to see Ben Affleck win!

For heaven sake!! What’s next??!! No – don’t tell me, I don’t want to know.

When I was younger the awards shows were sort of a family thing to watch. Now I don’t waste my time. Its all fluff and distraction. If Michelle wants to lower the standing of the office of the president so what? It can’t get much lower.

I was barely watching or listening, but as soon as I saw the woman on my screen who spent her career steering the poor minorities that came to her hospital to other crappy health institutions, then pushing for universal healthcare that she clearly never personally believed in, I switched off, and am now done with the Ascars. Forever and ever… Actors, idol worshipers, illusionists, Socialists, oligarchs that is the entire administration; one and the same with Holly Wood, the mind control/mass hypnosis specialists. They are kindred in our oppression.

I could only stomach the last few awards and then was just disgusted with the Hollywood kowtowers allowing this shameful politicization. How can I effect this liberal/progressive/socialist pool of nincompoops? Ignoring the theater, refusing to give my money to the Hollywood hyped “blockbusters”, patronizing conservatives who make and produce and star in films (Kevin Sorbo/Abel’s Field), and doing pay-per-view. Yes, they’ll get some of the money, but that little effort of staying away from the cinema will at least make me feel better. Maybe even a letter or two, though I doubt it will make even the slightest ripple in their conscience.

This was a bridge too far. Is there nothing these people will not intrude on? I’m sorry another lecture from an Obama wasn’t necessary. What were those people standing behind her for? Thought they were about to break into a dance. How much money was wasted on that little presentation? I don’t think I can take another 3+ years of this administration plastering themselves everywhere except in actually getting something done. And while I can’t stand Michelle’s arched eyebrows normally, this uni-brow look wasn’t very attractive.
