The Academy Award winning best actress Jennifer Lawrence might have had every gown-wearing star’s greatest fear come true during one of the biggest moments of her career thus far Sunday night. But if anyone were going to fall and pull it off gracefully, it would be the Silver Linings Playbook leading lady.
Lawrence didn’t let the gaff phase her when she made it to the mic to give her Oscars acceptance speech, but she did elaborate about what happened on the steps during her press conference afterward.
A reporter asked what happened to cause Lawrence to trip. Lawrence responded in her characteristically candid style.
“What do you mean what happened? Look at my dress,” Lawrence, who leads as Katinss in The Hunger Games trilogy as well. “I tried to walk up stairs in this dress. That’s what happened.”
Moving on, another reporter asked what her first thoughts were in that moment.
“A bad word that I can’t say that starts with ‘F’,” Lawrence laughed.
This was not all of Lawrence’s hilarity responding to seemingly obvious questions from the press, like what it took to get ready. Lawrence said she tried her dress on, cleaned up, got her hair and make up done and “came to the Oscars” (this said in a sing-songy voice) — all before admitting she did a shot backstage before coming out for the press conference.
And someone asking if the 22-year-0ld worried about “peaking too soon,” given that she received an Oscar nomination last year and won for her role this year. Lawrence responded with these faces:

“Well now I am,” she said.

Feb. 25, 2013 at 8:42pmDoubt it. I saw some of her comments about living off of the land, etc. She seems as grounded as you can get and be in the business that she’s in. She also seemed proud of the fact that she hasn’t done any full frontal nudity also. Like you, I hope she stays true to her current beliefs and doesn’t let the left coast change her compass.

Feb. 25, 2013 at 3:42pmSorry to be nit-picky, but “gaff” should be “gaffe,” and “phase” should be “faze.”
Definition of GAFF
1: a : a spear or spearhead for taking fish or turtles
b : a handled hook for holding or lifting heavy fish
c : a metal spur for a gamecock
d : a butcher’s hook
e : a climbing iron or its steel point used by a telephone lineman
2: the spar on which the head of a fore-and-aft sail is extended
Definition of GAFFE
1: a social or diplomatic blunder
2: a noticeable mistake
Definition of FAZE
1: to disturb the composure of : disconcert, daunt
Also, punctuation (commas, periods, question marks, etc.) go before the second quotes character, not after it, i.e., “Her ‘comments,’ however crude, were nonetheless accurate.”

Feb. 25, 2013 at 8:41pmAnd here’s a fun (and cringe-worthy) sentence to try and decipher. Maybe the author had also downed a shot before writing the following:
“What do you mean what happened? Look at my dress,” Lawrence, who leads as Katinss in The Hunger Games trilogy as well.

You may not be young and youthfully cute anymore, but there are trade offs with age. You are still alive, you are hopefully smarter (with age comes experience), probably well seasoned and still hot enough to melt a cheese sandwitch from across the room if you want too. There is a famous song called the ‘world is a circle’ from the movie ‘lost horizons.’ I’m sure it applies.

What was she thinking when she fell? What do you think she was thinking you jack@$$. Now I understand the big paychecks, its bribe money to deal with all those idiots in Hollywood. Where was the oh so intelligent Perez Hilton? I’m sure he’d have something really super smart to ask as well.

i worry she will be swept up in the jane fonda susan sarandon darryl hannah syndrome, but hope instead she follows marisa tomei.
do i know the latter’s politics? No.
And I don’t want to know… I want solid perfomances in movies that feel real while i’m watching them, however fantastical they are, and that have a happy ending. Life has enough darkness and uncertainty to waste two hours watching Monster’s Ball again.
it’s a shame Zero Dark Thirty’s truth so limited its acceptance by the Academy. Saw a bit over the weekend where a professor says students BELIEVE what they see in historical fiction movies and so he spends much of his classtime UNteaching wrong facts whether it’s about William Wallace or Game Change.
Almost without exception movies that ‘improve on’ the books are a disappointment… movies that ‘improve’ on actual history leave me similarly unsettled.

Feb. 25, 2013 at 11:00amAfter seeing a clip of Moochelle presenting for best picture on the news this morning, I am once again disappointed by how low the office of POTUS has fallen with this reality TV first family of ours.

Feb. 25, 2013 at 11:35amGONZO, it was an expression of vassalage from leftist Hollywood. In particular to the Obamas who respresent many of the sacred cows of the left (pun intended). The royals in this white house no longer tap a shoulder with a sword to bestow recognition of service to the monarchy, they merely appear from the presidential palace (complete with military used as props..no seriously..why was Moochelle/Zira surrounded by members of the military for this?) and announce their chosen knighthood honour for the year. All that was missing was Moochelle on a balcony singing “don’t cry for me Argentina” with a courtyard full of the faithful beneath her holding a candlelight vigil (although I think I spotted a bandana-ed washerwoman DESERTROSE on her knees, scrubbing the floor behind her royal highness as Moochelle walked the room).
And what a perfect juxtaposition? The vacuous, hollow, gussied up, “let’s pat each other on the back”, looks-of-phony-surprise-and-humility, foppish, all style-no substance, night-of-nights for Hollywood capped off with an appearance from their queen in her much praised wig -the most empty, do-nothing, self-appreciating, image-manufactured, obsessively carefully scripted and packaged first couple in living memory. I think it was perfect..Ben Afleck I understand had an org@sm when Moochelle/Zira presented the award for his film (which not surprisingly itself praises Hollywood).

Feb. 25, 2013 at 11:52amI too share your disappointment on how the Obamas have cheapen the office. No setting president should ever go on a talk show, nor his wife. After they leave office – fine. The Obama’s think they are cool and hip and we the people are the enablers by watching. I wish the people would stop tuning in when the Obamas act-up. But we the people keep watching and they keep performing for us.

Feb. 25, 2013 at 2:33pmi didnt watch the Oscars….nor do I intend to watch them ever again. This is the whole pretext of the “hunger games” in which Jennifer Lawrence starred – her co-companion in the movie made the statement, “we should all just not watch – thats what they are wanting us to do.” It is a method of control – no one should give these liberal freakshows one ounce of credibility by watching them. You should research the actors/directors and choose your entertainment that way – or better yet, skip the TV – movies for spending time with your kids…or going to a gun safety class to learn the proper way to handle a firearm….or going to church….or growing your own food in a garden….or reading a book….
