White House Releases Dire State-by-State List of Sequestration Ramifications

US President Barack Obama delivers remarks joined by emergency responders to urge action to avoid the automatic budget cuts scheduled to hit next Friday if Congress fails to find a path forward on balanced deficit reduction during an event at the White House in Washington, DC, February 19, 2013. On Sunday, the White House continued its effort to prevent the $85 billion in automatic spending cuts known as “sequestration” from starting this Friday, releasing a dramatic state-by-state list of how they claim each state will be impacted if Congress fails to act.
It’s worth remembering that the “cut” is only to the projected increase in spending, not to what we are currently spending.
White House political director Dan Pfeiffer said on a call Sunday, according to the Hill, that the sequester is only going to happen if Republicans refuse to compromise.
He added: “Republicans are making a policy choice that these cuts are better for the economy than eliminating tax loopholes that benefit the wealthy.”
Republicans have countered by noting that the sequester was an idea originally pushed by the White House, and they have several times attempted to avert the cuts.
House Speaker John Boehner’s spokesman Michael Steel said in a statement: “Republicans in the House have voted – twice – to replace President Obama’s sequester with smarter spending cuts. The White House needs to spend less time explaining to the press how bad the sequester will be and more time actually working to stop it.”
Either way, here’s what the White House claims will happen in each state if the sequester goes through (via the Wall Street Journal):
- Alabama
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- California
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- District of Columbia
- Florida
- Georgia
- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Montana
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- New York
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Utah
- Vermont
- Virginia
- Washington
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming
John McCain said on CNN’s State of the Union today that the across-the-board sequestration cuts are a “cowardly” way to tackle the budget, and the “worst” way to go about it:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 4:56amSo we send all this money to DC and than they send some back after they waste some on the the middle man. Sounds great. Let’s stop sending money to the feds and keep it at the local and state level. Besides why is the federal government involved in any of these things?

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 4:38amIt has got to be a pretty easy job if you can come up with a piss poor plan and then when it doesn’t work blame it on someone else. Such is the life of Obama. You know I hate this guy with a passion, but what scares me the most is it doesn’t matter what the guy does he is adored by the obamabot morons. This sequestration will not hurt anything, 85 billion dollars in a 1.6 trillion dollar deficit is less than 2% and the demoncrats are trying to act like cutting 85 billion out of the proposed spending increase will cause all first responders to be laid off. Damn people, has our country become so totally illiterate that they don’t even know when they are just totally being duped? Sometime soon we have to pay the piper, this 85 billion isn’t even a good start but it is better than no start at all.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 3:45amThere is nothing in this world that will make me believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Obama, as he is a proven liar with a long history of deceit and trickery. Why…just ask the hundreds of campaign contributors alone who have had promises broken by him. In short, this whole matter falls into his own lap and on his watch. Whatever happens, this blaming and chronic finger-pointing POTUS must bear the responsibility. The character did zip-zero about the economy, excessive spending, and fine-tuning budgets and NOW he wants to take ‘action’ to make himself look good. His look-good antics have landed the US in the crapper with the citizenry in widespread and rising unemployment, desperate poverty, and a comatose economy. Maybe HE’LL get an Oscar for a stupid and limp performance to join the rest of the Limousine Liberals.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 1:16amIf Obama is so worried by the budget, stop flying around on air force one, stop Michelle from taking a vacation every month. Have the politicians take a pay cut, and start paying for their own retirements and health care. How is it that we can suffer, and yet the politicians don’t. How is it that teachers and police and fire departments are all on the federal payroll. They’re not, but our boy king Obama says they are. He has lied so much and the people still believe him. Sheep is the term they call us by. That’s how little he thinks of the American people. We’re nothing but a joke to satisfy his sick little ego, arrogance and his so called better way of life.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 1:14amPerhaps the President should put down his club and actually do his job. It was he who made the deal to increase the cap. Perhaps he shouldn’t have left this for the last minute. I used to tell my daughter that about her homework. She seems to have learned it…a shame our president can’t.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 1:04amSo I seem some liberal idiot is claiming Obama only added less than $1 trillion to the debt while Bush added $5 trillion. It’s true that Bush added $5 trillion in 8 years. But Obama added SIX trillion in FOUR YEARS! If Obama added less than $1 trillion, the national debt would only be $11 trillion. It’s over $16 trillion. Nice try, but we’re not idiots at TheBlaze.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 12:57amSequester cuts 85 billion from the budget, were in the hole 6 trillion dollars. Obama voted for the bill having the sequester in it. Now the teachers are losing their jobs, 1 St responders also. How is it that the Dems didn’t pass any budget for the last 5 years, and now the GOP gets blamed for the budget mess. Reid and Pelosi are the reason why no budget has been passed. Now, whose fault is it. No cap on spending, no budget proposal and no god given common sense from our politicians. This is what Obama wants, total and complete collapse of the American money system. Just like Soros and his secret group want. And the media is leading the way. When are the people going to say enough. And turn Washington DC on its butt, and fire the government.

There is so much cronyism and corruption that it all needs to be dismantled and started over. Plus we need to get out of the UN and get the UN out of the USA. Freedom from all these lying politicrats on both sides of the isle.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 12:54amThis was the Presidents initiative and he is the one that said he would not stand for anyone trying to say no to this sequester. Its just a drop in the bucket as to the amount needed to be cut to get this country straightened out fiscaly. Heck we are going to spend more money this year as a nation than last year even with sequestration, and thats with the wars gearing down. Here’s whats going to happen. The cuts in spending kick in. Obama instead of trying to mitigate the effect will lay into them and make them really hit hard on the american people. The republicans will be hit hard and with their ineptitude at defending themselves let alone there abismal ability to go on the offense they will be blamed for awhile, but after the taxes set in and healthcare sets in and the pain for the sequester sets in then they are going to look to the president. As things get worse his ratings will drop. He is the president and inevitably the buck stops with him. Just wait till the pain sets in. He won’t be able to hide even from his own party.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 12:51amYeah. A couple of weeks ago we GAVE, not sold 20 F-16 fighter jets and 200 M-1 Abrams tanks to Egypt… outside of another $2+ Billion in foreign aid… over $2 Billion to Pakistan… and on and on. We can dump the Dept of Energy, the Dept of Education, HHS and most of EPA for a start. Remember the sequester cuts are those that should have happened 2 years ago when the debt ceiling was increased. Remember “Give us the money now and we’ll make cuts later”? Well now it is really later because we’re going to have to pass another $2 Trillion increase in the debt ceiling. This time we must get bigger, targeted cuts BEFORE any debt ceiling increase is passed. We were spending $100 Billion during the war with Iraq. Where did that go. Wherever it went, it needs to be cut. We’re still spending it (and more) but it was borrowed money that we should have quit borrowing.
The $800 Billion stimulus of 2009 was supposed to be a one time event, yet Congress included it into the base amount of the budget which gets automatically increased by 8% and has continued to spend it every year. I don’t think that was the understanding that the people had when it was passed. This ALL HAS TO STOP!

But, are they going to still have the Blue Angels at Patuxent Naval Air Station and the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels at Andrews Air Force Base or are they going to just show a video to the spectators???
If that’s what we’ve got to give up, their isn’t any way the public will put up with that! (I really wouldn’t think they would even bother listing this, but then again, who are we talking about making up this list?)

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 12:15amLooked at what they say will happen in my state, I don’t see a problem with the cuts. Seems to me the rest of the country has sacrificed more than a little over the last 5 years time for the government to take the same reductions. Household income down 8.2 percent since Obama took office but the government keeps growing. The cuts they keep talking about are not even real cuts just a reduction in the amount of growth. Disgusting.
