White House Releases Dire State-by-State List of Sequestration Ramifications

US President Barack Obama delivers remarks joined by emergency responders to urge action to avoid the automatic budget cuts scheduled to hit next Friday if Congress fails to find a path forward on balanced deficit reduction during an event at the White House in Washington, DC, February 19, 2013. On Sunday, the White House continued its effort to prevent the $85 billion in automatic spending cuts known as “sequestration” from starting this Friday, releasing a dramatic state-by-state list of how they claim each state will be impacted if Congress fails to act.
It’s worth remembering that the “cut” is only to the projected increase in spending, not to what we are currently spending.
White House political director Dan Pfeiffer said on a call Sunday, according to the Hill, that the sequester is only going to happen if Republicans refuse to compromise.
He added: “Republicans are making a policy choice that these cuts are better for the economy than eliminating tax loopholes that benefit the wealthy.”
Republicans have countered by noting that the sequester was an idea originally pushed by the White House, and they have several times attempted to avert the cuts.
House Speaker John Boehner’s spokesman Michael Steel said in a statement: “Republicans in the House have voted – twice – to replace President Obama’s sequester with smarter spending cuts. The White House needs to spend less time explaining to the press how bad the sequester will be and more time actually working to stop it.”
Either way, here’s what the White House claims will happen in each state if the sequester goes through (via the Wall Street Journal):
- Alabama
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- California
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- District of Columbia
- Florida
- Georgia
- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Montana
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- New York
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Utah
- Vermont
- Virginia
- Washington
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming
John McCain said on CNN’s State of the Union today that the across-the-board sequestration cuts are a “cowardly” way to tackle the budget, and the “worst” way to go about it:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on March 3, 2013 at 2:13pmSince HHS said that Head Start is failing, how about if we stop funding it period and not just cut some of the funding?

Posted on March 3, 2013 at 2:23pmAlso, why doesn’t the list include first responders? Didn’t the president say that firefighters and police would be cut? Just another lie from the Leader of the Formerly Free World!

Posted on February 27, 2013 at 6:38pmI just figured out something about KEATONC333: he/she/it posts a lot of comments during all times of the day. Either he/she/it has no job (like so many Obamacrats) or he/she/it is stealing time from his/her/its employer (like so many Obamacrats). Should spend some time becoming educated instead. May I suggest an ode to socialist policy, the great Mike Judge film Idiocracy?

Posted on February 27, 2013 at 1:41pmGovernment is the spoiled brat that can’t stand being told “no.” Every (working) American has had to face reductions in income in the past 2 months due to the expiration of the payroll tax reprieve. Every (working) American had to do with 2% less. Every (working) American gutted up and did what it took so the hungry beast known as the federal government could be happy. Now every (working) American has the absolute right to demand that its government get by on less. Here are some suggestions for how the Big Ego can lead the way by trimming 2% from his own spending:
1. Stay at the White House for one whole day every month instead of running around the country spreading fear and divisiveness;
2. Freeze the wife’s staff at 2,432 instead of continuing to grow it by adding another stylist–complete waste of time anyway, given what you’ve got to work with;
3. Quit buying hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition for your brown shirted thugs;
4. Make the girls walk their own damn dog;
5. Buy double barrel shotguns for your Secret Service protectors instead of those expensive and scary looking semi-automatic pistols–Biden would be pleased;
6. Send Joe Biden to travel with John Kerry–won’t save any money, but the comedy possibilities are priceless!

Posted on February 27, 2013 at 6:39amDire consequences… Why is it I get the feeling our WH is targeting the most controversial and high-profile possibilities and blowing it all out of proportion, instead of looking for ways to ease the pain of this Sequestration? Hmmmmm…. Duh!
I hate that people are actually buying into this load of cow pies! It’s sooooo frustrating that they don’t / won’t wake up to the reality of what’s going on…… I STILL can’t believe this guy got voted in for a second term! Whatever Romney may or may not have been, he would have at least been interested in this country surviving as a Republic. Obama clearly showed himself to be a Marxist in his first term.
In 2008 we made history by electing the first American President with African American blood. Four years and 3 months later he and his buddies have all but shredded the Constitution, turned us into a third-world nation, and created a permanent Communist regime! “We the People” have been royally had! But STILL they give him high job approval ratings! Did everyone have a lobotomy? I just don’t get it.
You gotta give those pesky progressives their due – - they’re brilliantly good at getting people to ignore the facts…..

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 9:44pmNow that we have his apocolypse list, I say we look back over the past 10 years at the historical data to find out how much we have been charged for these services. Add up all the actual costs of them that we have already paid and see how close the total comes to $85 Billion since that is how much the President is saying all these services cost to operate. If, as I strongly suspect, the total comes out to far more than $85 Billion, then that means we have been overcharged over the past 10 years for all this stuff. If the total comes to, say, $510 Billion, then we have been overcharged to the tune of about 600%, which means therefore that the treasury must have in it enough already collected from us to pay for the sequester 6 times over. So, we simply pay off the sequester out of that and then use the remaining 5 times $85 Billion ($425 Billion) to either pay down the debt or return it back to us as a refund along with an apology for overcharging us 600%.
No armageddon needs to occur, no pain whatsoever needs to occur. Simple.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 7:02amBring it on! If this country continues to spend at the rate we are now, we’re not going to have to worry about a few inconveniences. I didn’t see any “earth-shaking” cuts in their lists that are making me tremble in my shoes. So we do without a few things, so what, isn’t that what makes people creative, inventive, stronger? I would willingly trade less hand-outs, less government regulation (under the guise of the nanny state), less of people telling me that they know what is best for me to cut the spending in this country. It is insane to think that we can continue on this way, meaning spending, and not have it all fall apart. Raising taxes is NOT the answer. Cutting programs, especially duplicate service ones, programs that don’t work, departments that don’t work, freebies to everyone who wants them would go a long way to reach the measly $$$ cuts that the administration is screaming will end end our “wonderful” life as we know it right now. Promise?

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 9:32pmMost the important programs will be fine as we realize there is a huge waste of spending in anything the government funds. You can usually find a private sector equivalent that can operate at 75% or less of what the government program can do it for. So this 25% cut should really just cause these programs to find their own waste and cut it. If they can’t find where the waste is, they should be shut down.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 8:56pmI could cut one trillion from the debt in one day’s time, without cutting the military, medicare or social security and I’m not even a college graduate. Sorry, didn’t mean to brag about my education. The first thing to do is get the money away from anyone with a D or R in their so-called title.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 8:29pmHeadstart cuts……..very reliable connection stated today “they can absorb the cuts” not to worry. I think someone needs to audit the auditors. “Spendowns” are an annual celebration. Before your heart bleeds for these cuts, know they are doing absolutely fine, increases every year, I’d sure like to know what that must feel like.

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 3:44pmThe $85 billion in cuts are actually spread out over 8 years. The first year of cuts are only like $22 billion. And they’re only CUTS IN GROWTH. The budget will still be larger from one year to the next. The lying liars in the media are purposefully deceiving the American public.

I’m sure that one thing that won’t suffer is the millions of dollars squandered on vacations for the ‘community organizer’ and his sqeeze. He should take a tip from the Pope, resign and go back to thugville, Chicago, and join the mayhem caused by his ‘ideas’ and his cronies.
