Republican Rep. Walter Jones (Photo Credit: AP)
It’s no secret that Republican Rep. Walter Jones of North Carolina is an outspoken critic of America’s Middle Eastern wars. But on Saturday, he extended beyond the geopolitical and dove into some theological territory. During a speech, the congressman shared his views regarding where he thinks former Vice President Dick Cheney will go when he dies. Hint: It’s not heaven.
During the keynote address at the Young Americans for Liberty conference in Raleigh N.C., Jones said that he believes Cheney will probably go to hell for his role in pushing for the Iraq War, WBTV-TV reports. Additionally, he noted that President Lyndon Johnson is probably already there due to involvement with the Vietnam War.
“Congress will not hold anyone to blame,” Jones said. “Lyndon Johnson’s probably rotting in hell right now because of the Vietnam War, and he probably needs to move over for Dick Cheney.”
A robust outbreak of applause followed.
See Jones’ controversial remarks, below:
WBTV-TV notes that the congressman initially voted in support of the Iraq War. He was apparently so supportive of the military operation that he pushed the term “freedom fries” as an alternative to “French fries” back in 2003. Later, he decried U.S. overseas operations, as evident from his controversial comments about Cheney.
The former vice-president obviously wasn’t the only topic of conversation for Jones. He also spoke about the Obama administration’s drone policy, which he called “unconstitutional,” among other subjects.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 2:54pmWar? You call That War? War is when someone threatens your sovereignty and on grounds of morality, decency, and self-preservation, you wipe them off of the face of the earth with the full force of everything at your disposal. You don’t go back and clean up any messes you were “deemed” to have made. No apologies are issued. Thus, Not only is history written by the winner, the laws of Justice and Mercy are satisfied. The line between good and evil is now so visible it can not be hidden under cover of darkness. It is time to declare your allegiance and defend it with the full force of everything at your disposal

Feb. 26, 2013 at 3:06pmOne thing is definite……one is not to criticize this NWO/JWO led war against Iraq or Afghanistan. That’s a big no no. Now we are trying to get involved in Syria, but I’ve noticed the “chosen people” ran Marxist Media has backed off lately. They must be getting ready for a new barrage of propaganda to get Americans stirred up to attack Syria. Oh and lets not forget Iran. We have to get propaganda built up to rile up Americans to attack Iran. This whole NWO globalist nation building war is what is draining down America’s wallet. There is no end in sight either. Fighting Islamic radicals is just like fighting crime or drugs. It will be a never end.

That’s the problem isn’t it? You and Harry and many others have a truthful version of the way wars ought to be executed, but it’s just a fantasy compared to our government actions since 9-11, more importantly it has been a fantasy since the end of WW2.
The more appropriate reference to Jame Kirk and the way we fight wars would have been James Kirk going down on the enemy.
By the way the only war that I feel has been won since 9-11, is the exponential control that our police state has gained over it’s own citizens

Last time we had a Declaration Of War, WWII and guess what we won.
Korean War = armistice agreement = a tie
Vietnam = Paris Peace Accords = we lost
Next time please do the DOD a favor and get a Declaration Of War, this will take out the single biggest Center Of Gravity (COG) exploited by the enemy. That COG is the idiots in Rome (Washington) who fight for power, only power and only to stay in power.
A Declaration Of War gets both parties on the same sheet of music, and then they can not waffle they have to work together to win it or lose it.
I am sure there was opposition during WWII, all FDR had to do is bring in the haters and ask, Is this your signature? It is, then shut the F@$K Up and let the military win this thing.

Bears repeating for these fools. No matter how obvious it is to some others just can’t get it because people in positions of power whom they respect said it was justified.. therefore they are believers in the cause.
I’ve not seen 2 or 3 people change their stance on the Blaze in the past several years despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary that they were lied to… Matters not though because they bought the intial lie… Would be impossible for them to go back and admit that they were wrong.

There is only one thing that will keep you out of heaven, it is not arguable.
John 16:9 “concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;”
The Son only judges one thing, whether he knows you. All sin has already gone to court and been judged.
So, if Dick Cheney says he does not believe in Christ, then you KNOW where he will reside. Other than that, “judge not lest you be judged”.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 4:09pmI am going to take this rare opportunity to agree with Locked. The congressman is obviously ignorant of God’s provision for sinners. We are not condemned to hell based on our sins but rather as a result of our rejection of God. “We are saved from the wrath of God based on the grace of the Father, the merit of the Son, and the efficacy of the Spirit. The Father makes the promise of redemption, the Son seals it with His blood, and the Spirit applies it; the Father adopts us to be His children, the Son redeems us to be His members, and the Spirit renews us to be His temples” (Charnock, “A Discourse on the Goodness of God”). There is no sin so dark that God’s forgiveness can’t cover it. Cheney may well end up in hell. I don’t know. But, it will be based on unbelief if he does or faith and repentence if he doesn’t. Anyone who condemns another person to hell does not know the depth of their own sin and the extent to which they themselves need grace and forgiveness. No one should plan on going to heaven based on their own merit. That is a common and catastrophic belief.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 5:36pmNo…The CIA sent Joe Wilson to Niger to investigate these reports. When he arrived in Niger, the former Prime Minister told him that Iraq tried to buy uranium in 1999. Wilson came home and on July 6, 2003 penned his op-ed in the NYT’s “What I Didn’t Find In Niger”
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/06/opinion/what-i-didn-t-find-in-africa.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm
You’ll notice there’s not a word in that article about Iraq trying to buy uranium in 1999. Now why did Wilson omit what the former Prime Minister Mayaki had told him? When Bush made his State of the Union speech in 2003 he said, “The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa” You’ll note Wilson referenced those words in his op-ed to label Bush a liar. The liberal media followed suit and all we heard from then on was, Bush Lied.”
The truth is, Bush didn’t lie! Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger in 1999. Those 16 words Bush used in his State of the Union were true then, are true now and will forever remain true. Why did Joe Wilson lie about what he found in Niger?

Just like Glenn Beck you fail to realize the principle of non-aggression. You cannot invade another country based on something that MIGHT happen in the future. Even if they have nukes. Think about it. That’s like saying I can murder you because you have a gun, and at some point in the future you might use it on me. We both know that’s complete balogna, and nothing would justify homicide.
Just give it up. Give up the pro-war sentiment and admit that the Iraq war was a terrible mistake that we are now paying dearly for. Until you embrace the principle of non-aggression as a guideline, the rest of us liberty loving Americans will regard you as a pro-war, establishment republican that is anti-limited government.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 5:12pmEndless wars, policing the world, and an interventionist foreign policy are all Wilsonian, liberal progressive ideals. Supporting all of the above actually makes you a RINO. Look in the mirror sometime.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 2:37pmAnybody starting to think we have Democrats who ran as Republicans only to create a sense of “all over the board” ideology! Alinsky tactics are creating an implosion within. Hmmm, we are living in very interesting times.

Yes, they’re called “neoconservatives” and they’ve been dragging down the GOP for decades.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 2:35pmWhat pi$$es me off is the fact that if Bush the first would have given me and my fellows another 48 hours back in 91 I would not have had to send my son to finish the job I started.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 2:43pmThe mission was to liberate Kuwait, not to invade Iraq. We cowtowed to the UN, and we are reaping the rewards of doing so now. Thanks for serving, and thanks to your son!

Feb. 26, 2013 at 3:07pmYou can thank that cowardly lyin’ COLIN POWELL for that. HE fought against Swartezenegger’s efforts to get the job done with Saddam ‘now’…THink of the lives that would have been saved. The Iraqi’s who would not have been tortured by that SOB…in their 100,000 people graves (remember?) or the KURDS who would have lived instead of being killed by his WMD. WE ALL KNOW that Saddam shipped off this Stash of WMD to SYRIA (we saw the convoys right before Shock and Awe) …
GUTS NOW or lives later.
WE are allowing that other TWIT – the One Worlder in the WH now- to r@pe/rob/wreck our precious nation… we will pay for it. As far as this DOPE from NC, he does not deserve any GOP $$ for re-election. I detest “oops guys”…. the Monday morning quarterbacks who try to ingratiate themselves to their hapless audiences with cliche comments. Find a candidate you can believe in
and that believes in America. That’s one interesting thought about Alinsky’s plots… that could explain some of these goof-balls we’ve had running for office of late…can’t make it selling shoes or used cars so they run for office.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 2:40pmWhich part of his statement do you disagree with, his opinion of Cheney or the Iraq military police action or maybe his assessment of LBJ’s lie that got the names of fifty thousand of my brothers on a wall in DC?

Feb. 26, 2013 at 2:54pmReally ALPO! Maybe you should read the article again! How about this part! “WBTV-TV notes that the congressman initially voted in support of the Iraq War. He was apparently so supportive of the military operation that he pushed the term “freedom fries” as an alternative to “French fries” back in 2003. Later, he decried U.S. overseas operations, as evident from his controversial comments about Cheney.

Feb. 26, 2013 at 3:55pmSo people aren’t allowed to realize they were wrong and change their mind about it? If you make a bad decision you’re just supposed to defend that bad decision to the death?

Feb. 26, 2013 at 4:46pmNo 00, everyone makes mistakes! But be a big enough man to say you’re sorry and move on! It’a little disingenuous to cast someone into the fires of hell for something you supported and then changed your mind over! As if his role at the time was any different! Even if it is to position yourself with a select group for the next election. Don’t ya think?
