S.E. Cupp Pulls Out of CPAC Until Groups Representing Gay Republicans Are Embraced
TheBlaze TV’s S.E. Cupp on Tuesday announced she is pulling out of CPAC until the annual conservative gathering welcomes GOP groups that support gay marriage. Two prominent groups representing gay Republicans, GOProud and Log Cabin Republicans, will reportedly not be in attendance at CPAC.
“I go to CPAC every year. I love speaking there. It’s a great opportunity for conservatives, young and old from all over the world, to get together and sort of touch base,” Cupp said on MSNBC’s “The Cycle.”
CPAC has reportedly permitted groups advocating for gay marriage to attend, however, they are unable to sponsor the event. Cupp said that is a bit of a “cop-out” on the issue.
“We should be lucky to be having these guys do any work instead of turning them away. I don’t think we can afford that right now,” she said.”
“Ive been thinking about this a lot, and I know a lot of people on my side of the aisle have been struggling with this for some time now too,” she added. “I’ve been scheduled to speak at CPAC this year, and I don’t think I can until this issue is reconciled and figured out.”
Cupp said Republicans are divided on gay marriage, an issue that the party can “no longer seem to avoid.” She explained that several Republicans, including four former governors, have signed a legal brief arguing that gays have a constitutional right to marry. The brief will be submitted to the Supreme Court this week in support of a lawsuit to overturn California’s Prop 8, which limited marriage to the union of a man and a woman.
Cupp told TheBlaze that she has “enjoyed a wonderful relationship with CPAC for years” and even called the annual event “a highlight” of her year.
“But as a proponent of gay rights, CPAC’s decision to sideline GOProud and Log Cabin Republicans makes me increasingly uncomfortable,” she said. “These are conservatives who have had to work doubly hard to advance conservative messages and we should be rewarding them with positions of prominence.”
She continued: “Further in the interest of inclusion, it strikes me that now more than ever we should be celebrating our intellectual diversity, not suppressing it. It seems like we’re hardly in a position to be marginalizing any kinds of conservatives, let alone ones who have been so courageous in the face of adversity.”
Cupp said CPAC has every right to offer sponsorships and speaking opportunities to whomever it wants, “but until the conference stops shaming some of its most valuable advocates, it’s unfortunately not an event I can take part in.”

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:13pmNot only do we NOT have to agree with people’s choices but we don’t have to respect those choices or them for making them. Respect is earned. These people do not earn any respect from me when they advocate one man “mounting” another man from behind in an act of “domination” and “submission”. This is sexual abuse. Nor do they get my respect when women put “fists” up every orifice of other women. I don’t have to respect their values, their choices or their actions. They are not deserving of respect. Anyone’s respect. No one should applaud this sexual abuse.

So, if you don’t agree with a person committing suicide (where they only take their life), you still “respect” their freedom to make that choice? Well, OK then.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:41pmRespectable Republican?? As a member of GOProud and hoping to move some scheduling to be able to attend CPAC, I’d say the group of us are a bunch of “respectable” Republicans, although I prefer Conservative. S.E.’s stance on this is bull! No one is being kept out. Just not everyone is a sponsor. Face it, not everyone agrees with gay marriage. Not because they hate, are bigots, or are not respectable. It is their upbringing and sometimes religion. My family does not agree with it, but they are sure not haters or bigots and they are not respectable Republicans, they are respectable Democrats (The few that are left in the country and it was alll because of JFK for them.). They are just set in their ways. But they do love me more than anything and that is all that matters to me!

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:06pmDividing, cleaving, corralling and splintering are what progressives have been doing to Americans for 100 years. This will be a political masterstroke if it happens. It’s good to know progressive tactics, but to repurpose and commandeer them is much more impressive. Well done, S. E. Cupp.
What do I think will happen? Dan Savage will be fuming that these “stockholm syndrome” gays side with Republicans, pen yet another despicable Op. Ed., his followers will look even worse, lose more P.R. points, followed by victory for the rest of us.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:06pmOkay, as an atheist, SE, you don’t agree with the conservative stance on sodomy. So be it, but do not expect conservatives to be other than conservative, any more than you would expect your gay friends to behave like they are gay.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:05pmContray to many posts here S.E. deserves the right to express her opinions any way she sees fit. At least she is taking a stand for something in which she believes.
For those who are steadfastly homophobic, I can only offer my condolences. I assume your positions stem from religious leanings and/or Bible teachings. Fine! But, which parts of the Bible do you accept or reject?
This part: LEVITICUS (20:13) states, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
Or this part: The “Thou shalt not kill” commandment (i.e., Commandment V if you are Catholic, Commandment VI if you are Protestant or Jewish)?
Be consistent in your faith at least.

“Homophobic” huh? What’s that? Fear of sameness? Actually I sorta like a comfortable consistency.
On what basis do you assume my position stems from “religions leanings or Bible teachings”. Could I not simply have formed a Cogent Evaluation that ingesting ones own elimination off another male’s member d’le creme is not only NOT the height of romantic love but sorta YUCKKY?
Certainly Cupp can do as she da mn well pleases. Can WE not as well? On what basis are we under obligation to affirm YOUR perversion?
As to what parts of the Bible I accept and reject—All of em.
I accept them all and I probably, at some point, reject them all by my actions—it’s called SIN, Littlepeep.
My personal hermeneutic, Lep, (you DO know what THAT is, right, since you want to play “spin that proof text”) I call “taking the Scriptures at face value.” You might want to try it since your exegesis (you know that word too, right?) sucks.
The Leviticus passage is pretty clear, HomoSEX (“orientation don’t come into it) is an abomination and God holds you accountable (“their blood shall be upon them”) Christians gave up the Stoning Bit when Jesus upgrades Judaism, in part because THEY weren’t responsible for GOVERNMENTAL Control of CRIME! Jesus’ “love your enemies” had something to do with it too.
“Thou shalt not kill” is actually “thou shalt not MURDER”. The STATE Choppin Thieves and Pervs is cool. Check Romans Chap 1 and Chap 13

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 6:49pmWe should stop fighting this on religious issues. Gay is simply a perversion, a disgusting practice that serves absolutely no purpose and further pushes society down the proverbial toilet. Biblical points can be made to support it bit if that is the only opposing fact we will always loose as bigoted “christians”.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:04pmWhy do they insist on misconstruing a choice as an inherent inborn trait? Marriage as it was created and intended, cannot occur legitimately between the same sex, as there can be no off-spring, pro-creation is the point. Not an opinion, just a logical fact. Your race is inherent and inborn, you cannot choose it, your gender is the same, you cannot choose it. Your life-style on the other hand is a total and complete choice. Requires you to act upon it, it does not act upon you, you can “feel” any way you wish, does not make it okay or legitimate, otherwise people who feel like murdering others would be legitimate. There is a lot of confusion in this world, over things that were obviously not acceptable since waaaaaaaaaay back in the day.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:00pmWell, CPAC is supposed to be a gathering of CONSERVATIVES (it’s not just a Republican event) – if Cupp wants to push obama’s liberal agenda, and she doesn’t feel that she is conservative enough to attend CPAC, then that is her choice – but, at least she’s being honest.
Cupp works for obama’s state-run MSNBC, so, she really should not have been invited in the first place.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 4:00pmThere are a lot of gay people who realize the fiscal conservative way to approach govt is the way to go, but until we get rid of our institutional “ickypoo” response to them, they’re going to keep going to the arms of the democrats. I realize they’re “only 3% of the population”, but we’ll be judged by how we treat the least among us. Many of us may disagree with how they live their lives, vehemently even, but they should be embraced as fellow fiscal conservatives. We all need to keep our “social” parts to ourselves. It’s not our job to use govt to force our beliefs on others.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 3:58pmS.E. I love you dearly. But you are on the wrong side of this issue. There is no such thing as a “Hyphenated” Marriage. There is only Marriage, period, end of story. And what is marriage you ask…. It’s the union of a Man and Woman. You, know the whole Church Thing. The white dress, and the handsome groom. You can’t just decide that you want marriage to be something different because you don’t like that definition. What you want is a Gay Union. No problem. Good for you.
