Sean Hannity Battles Combative Dem Congressman Over Federal Debt: You Are a Total Waste of Time

Fox News host Sean Hannity and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) got into a heated exchange Tuesday night, culminating in a name-calling tirade that caused Hannity to end the interview.

Ellison began the interview by calling Hannity “the worst excuse for a journalist I’ve ever seen.” He accused his host of practicing “yellow journalism” and being a “shill for the Republican Party.”

As Politico’s Dylan Byers notes, Ellison cited the program’s background music as evidence of Hannity’s “yellow journalism” tactics.

After repeatedly interrupting and talking over Hannity, Ellison at one point accused the host of being “immoral” and a liar, saying he says things that aren’t true on his program.

The comments came after Hannity attempted to ask Ellison whether or not it was “immoral” to rack up massive amounts of federal debt.

“You are immoral. You tell lies,” Ellison replied. “You say things that aren’t true.”

“Give me one example, sir,” Hannity replied.

“Well, to try to say that it is the president’s fault and he is to blame is wrong, and it’s a lie,” Ellison said.

When Hannity pressed about President Barack Obama adding roughly $6 trillion to the $16.5 trillion federal debt, Ellison instead focused on “the other [$10 trillion].”

While the Fox News host was able to absorb much of Ellison’s attacks with ease, eventually he had enough.

“Congressman, you are a total waste of time. I’m moving on, because our audience deserves better,” Hannity said. “I tried to give you a fair shot.”

  Sequester was Obama’s idea. Obama has added $6 trillion in debt in four years and has had no less than a one trillion dollar annual budget deficit each year in office. The first president to have just a single trillion dollar budget deficit – he has four in a row and is on his way to a fifth in a row. Ellison is typical Liberal Progressive. He lies.

  That being said the boy is a master communicator.. He’s got talent. He always has the right thing to say.. Of course he’s been on the radio about 30 yrs! But I’m impressed.

  Unless you know of some secret govt/constitution..Obama has not spent a cent which did not follow congressional allocation in accordance with our laws. Presidents cannot “spend” anything not authorized by congress. The President can ask, beg,lobby for funds BUT he cannot spend or borrow on his own authority. The other $10 trillion debt also was approved by Congress for Bush, Clinton, Bush #1, Carter, Reagan etc etc…the US Federal govt.has spent more every year sense 1956..it adds up. Obama has the same problem the previous Presidents have had, a Congress that spends like a drunken sailor and blames the President and Presidents who always want bucks for their interests worthy or worthless. If Congress doesn’t authorize it, the Prez can’t spend it. I don’t care for Barry, wish Congress would stop the CYA campaign and start doing their job. If they did, Barry would have to administer federal agencies within the approved balanced budgets..imagine that. If you don’t know who causing the problem chances are you won’t stop it.

The President and Dems proposed it, the Pres signed it, and after made a statement that if ANY legislation was passed to derail it or mimimize the cuts, he would veto it. I made comments on the Blaze back then asking why nobody in the liberal media was asking questions about the jobs that might be lost, but nobody did.
  As for Hanity’s ratings, will you please post where you found that information? I mean, according to you, Republicans are liar’s and Dems aren’t, so prove your point and post where you got the 50% reduced ratings info, and also, prove where the things that I stated were incorrect.

  Last night, I actually listened to a Democrat explain that the 6 trillion in debt that Obama added was because of George Bush’s 4 Trillion, it made me think, why didn’t Obama just borrow 4 Trillion up fron and pay off Bush’s debt? At this point, we borrowed another 6, without even paying down 1 dollar of bush’s 4, please help with the math?
  Just the fact that Bush spent more money in history than any other president and we are in the financial mess we are in PROVES that additional Govt. spending dosen’t work.

  I watched this last night and it was almost surreal to watch. THIS is a representative in congress? I’d read and seen articles of Ellison’s appeals to emotion over Islam before so I knew not to expect too much from him. But this display was eye opening in it’s illustration of just how seething and unfit to serve Ellison really is. This man is a liability to the American people.
  
  Contrary to what YOURSENSEI/MONICNE/WANGO/ad nauseum’s latest driveby attempts…Hannity was not “owned” (that’s a favourite assertion of MONICNE/WANGO/YOURSENSEI/ad nauseum..he always pretends to have “owned” someone or an argument…it’s called “levelling” in psychological circles). Hannity accomodated Ellison with nearly 3 minutes of an uninterrupted rant before asking him to pause and answer Hannity’s question. When Hannity asked him to comment on Obama’s adding $6trillion to the $16 trillion debt…Ellison (in typical taqquya style) said let’s discuss the other $10 trillion. This is not “owned” this is called distraction because you can’t account for your guy’s participation in the same problem. Obama has exceeded the spending of George W Bush while seeing one theater of combat operations wound down. Ellision reflexively went to “tax the rich guy and the corporations” in the all too familiar class warfare banter of socialists..while not saying that that would be a drop in the bucket in attempting to close the deficit.

  Exactly. The administration painted themselves into a corner with this Sequestration debacle. The problem is that their own hubris allowed it to happen and now they own it outright. I hope the remaining Republicrats let it fester for a while so the American people have a chance to understand how non-eventful it all is as far as crippling the economy.
  
  The administration wants a systemic collapse of the union that can be managed as to impose control upon the average American, but in this case they apparently lost control not only of the “crippling” narrative, but the blame game as to who ultimately invented and owns it as well.
  
  The worst part (for them) is that they haven’t managed to disarm the people before the staged collapse.

If I were a resident of Minnesota, I would be counting the days until this tool of a politician is up for replacement. A moron like Ellison wielding the power of a representative of the people of state is unsettling at best.   These numbers I keep seeing are part of the problem. Don’t be fooled by Fox’s supposed conservative slant. If those numbers were something to be proud of, would we be in the mess we are in? The answer is clearly no.
  
  What those numbers do represent is complacency in the conservative ranks. We are happy to sit back on the couch and hear (in small part) our side of the argument on the air. Cheerleaders don’t win ballgames. Meanwhile, those who DO (instead of watch) are running this country into the ground.

  Ya gotta admit it’s pretty cool to see Hannity beat at his own game, which is to pretend to ask a question, then, when the person tries to respond, relentlessly talk over them. This guy came prepared and wasn’t willing to let Hannity do that. That’s why Hannity cut off the interview, because he locked horns with someone who wasn’t going to get run over. This guy won’t be invited back that’s for sure. Hannity likes softer targets, one’s he can talk over.
  
  As far as people saying “this was Obama’s idea,” uh, you probably realize that this “idea” was passed by the Senate and the House, with plenty of Republican support. And you probably realize this idea was made into law to raise the debt limit (which in the past was always routine, given the United States of America ALREADY OWED this money) because a gun was held by Republicans to the head of the United States: “Agree, or we crash the world economy.”

  I listened to Hannity the whole year before the election, believing, hoping, waiting, with each day counting down. Then, the SOBAMA got reelected!!!!   The last 6 of Clinton (Remember the balanced budget, you can thank Newt Gingrich for making that happen), the first 6 of Bush (Remember Dow was 14000, Real Unemployment (U6) was 4.6%, Deficit was 500 Billion to support two war that Biden, Kerry and Clinton voted for, and most importantly the National debt was maintained at 50% of GDP). This was all done by design!

Ellison acted like the stereotypical angry black man. I could tell that if he had been face to face with Hannity he would have tried to punch Hannity. He cannot help it, it is in his genes and part of his culture.

I guess Ellison,never talked with obama,Schumer,barney Franks,Reid or Pelosi now these people are liars,these are the big time,he hasn’t any dealings with Msnbc, Nbc or Cnn ,I think he has missed the boat on liars altogether,I would think the unions have this fool congressmen in their pockets and zipper,he would do or say anything for the left cause,because that is the low life he is.Lets not forget Abc,they leave words out put words in because they are the White House media,not a news media outlet you would want to look up to,but Ellison,would look up to them,Ellison you are a low life and will never be much more.

Hannity should not have responded to Ellison’s rants. Instead he should have stayed focused on the questions followed by facts, even if he had to talk over Ellison. The hearing of specific questions and specific facts, even unanswered, has a greater impact on the viewer than engagement.

I saw this interview and my blood was boiling listening to the totalitarian Keith Ellison shout down Sean. Keith literally had the devil in his eyes, looked possessed, and was licking his chops after Sean played the Obama clip. Hannity handled it very well, can’t say I could of handled it so calmly as Sean did. We need more speech, not less from people like Keith so they can show their true totalitarian colors.

  Free speech doesn’t extend to dictating what a talk show’s host or producer wants to run. That’s getting into the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ territory. I’m sure Hannity wants to make Ellison look bad, but it won’t make any difference on Hannity’s show. We already know they’re crazy. It just turns off regulars, like me.

  I for one thought the Congressman was rude, evasive and condescending during the segment. He was allowed 3 uninterrupted minutes to speak, and then filibustered and wouldn’t allow Hannity to even ask him a question, and reverted to simply name calling. At one point he just started saying the same talking point over and over and wouldn’t shut up. To me, that just shows the Dems don’t want a dialogue and just won’t discuss a compromise.
  
  Alan Colmes, even though I disagree with him, and Juan Williams, Tamara Holder, can actually debate a subject. Why can’t these Congressman at least talk civily?

  You are correct sir. There are women that sometimes freak out if I stop and open a door for them while out shopping. Young ladies actually sometimes look really surprised. I always drive manners into my son, and I have had many parents and teachers compliment my wife and I on how well mannered and polite our son is, that is sad for our society.
