Bob Woodward: ‘Very Senior’ White House Official Warned Me I’d ‘Regret’ Attacking Obama Over the Sequester

Appearing on CNN Wednesday, the Washington Post’s Bob Woodward said a “very senior person” at the White House warned him that he would “regret doing this,” referring to his outspoken criticism of President Barack Obama’s handling of the impending forced cuts known as the sequester.
“I think they’re confused,” Woodward told CNN host Wolf Blitzer. Woodward apparently went on to criticize Obama further over the sequester the same day he received the warning from the White House.
“It makes me very uncomfortable for the White House to be telling reporters, you are going to ‘regret’ doing something that you believe in,” he added. “It’s Mickey Mouse.”
CNN invited a White House official to debate Woodward on-air, but the offer was declined, Business Insider’s Brett LoGiurato reports. Video via Townhall:

Bob Woodward on Wednesday accused President Barack Obama of acting with a “kind of madness” in his handling of the automatic spending cuts set to take effect Friday.

He continued, turning his attention to the White House’s recent claim that spending cuts would prohibit it from deploying aircraft carriers to the Persian Gulf.
“Can you imagine Ronald Reagan sitting there and saying ‘Oh, by the way, I can’t do this because of some budget document?’” Woodward said.
“Or George W. Bush saying, ‘You know, I’m not going to invade Iraq because I can’t get the aircraft carriers I need’ or even Bill Clinton saying, ‘You know, I’m not going to attack Saddam Hussein’s intelligence headquarters,’ as he did when Clinton was president because of some budget document?” he added.
Woodward initially started his fight with the White House after he accused the Obama administration of “moving the goal posts” in its budget negotiations with Republican lawmakers. He also reported in his book, “The Price of Politics,” that the automatic spending cuts were actually Obama’s idea — and now he wants to avoid them at all costs.

No offense to older people – like me – he sound like he’s already had a stroke, and that’s not an insult. He speaks slowly and enunciates each syllable in a slow, odd way.
But to my real point. Woodward says he is a “reporter.” He’s stopped being a reporter. When you go on the Tee Vee, and proclaim that sequester is “Obama fault” without acknowledging the way our government works and that this measure was passed by both the House and Senate with bipartisan support, then you’ve stopped being a “reporter.” You’ve become a pundit. An opinion person, not a reporter. When you create hypothetical situations, and then say this president or that would never have done this action or that, then you’ve stopped being a reporter, and drifted off into fantasy land. That’s not journalism, that’s opinion.
Did you notice how he will not say who told him him he “would regret” his words? Why? You can’t say he’s trying to protect his source right? He’s slamming this so called “source,” and putting words into his mouth.
Woodward may have once been a first class reporter, but now he’s a right wing pundit. Who talks very, very slowly and strains to articulate words; i.e. compromised in some way.

I had a great time in Sao Paulo. When the job moves you move. I cannot say that Sao Paulo would be a great place to live today as I have not been there in a while. But show many any city of 12 million people or more & chances are it will have many problems.

They will also have a hard time discrediting him on political ground, since his claim to fame was exposing the Watergate Tapes and bringing down Nixon who was A REPUBLICAN. The fact that he has received threats from the top tier at 1600 Penn. Ave. doesn’t suprise me at all. Hope he watches his back, and hope he still has it in him to do some serious investigative journalism. Nixon got hammered for doing the same thing that so many other Presidents had and have done, Obama is breaking new ground and you wouldn’t need to dig very deep to find crimes worthy of not only Impeachment, but imprisonment and quite possibly execution. I am not so keen in the EPA. I do have some knowledge of OSHA & more respect for them. Although it seems insurance companies & litigation could do nearly the same thing & maybe better.
I remember Carol Brownout (Browner) slapping 5 billion dollars of fines on a whole industry just because she could. Having worked in that industry, I knew there were no secret meetings on how to cause more pollution or cut corners or anything like that. It is hard to fight foreign competitors, satisfy European regulators & then to have a monkey like Carol Brownout on your back.
