Quick, take a look and see if you can spot the mistake on this helmet:
That’s the new mask of Philadelphia Flyers net-minder Ilya Bryzgalov sent out on the team’s Twitter account. Did you catch the flub? Take a closer look at Yoda’s light saber. It’s red. But red is the light saber color that’s given to those who dabble in the dark side of the force. And before you go saying that it’s possible Yoda just picked up the weapon of a fallen Sith, Yahoo has a Jedi mind trick for you:
Ah, you ponder, but what if Yoda simply stole that saber from a Sith he had sent into the Force ether?
Please recall that Yoda’s lightsaber was created to scale, fitting only his tiny space Muppet hands. Unless the Sith recruited some sinister Jawa as an apprentice, their sabres are not Yoda-sized.
Here’s an example of some of those fight scenes:
The artist is Fran Drummond, who once said, “I’ve realized I’m more into clarity and detail.”
Still, it happens. And in the spirit of not giving into the dark side: forgive him, Star Wars fans must.

Feb. 27, 2013 at 11:55amIf you remember You don’t need the force to use a Light Saber. In Empire strikes Back. Han Solo used Lukes Light Saber to cut open the stomach of a At-At or whatever and shoved Luke in to keep him from freezing. The color of the light saber actually can change and it is up to the builder what color. Lukes own Light Saber changed colors a couple times from green to blue or blue to green as the stories went on.

Point being maybe it is not actually a mistake, artist are allowed to change stuff. Star War Fans who criticize the helmet should remember the older episodes and the fact Light Sabers didn’t use force to power it before they lash out at the artist about the helmet. The Light Saber after all is a Jedi’s favored weapon in combat, but mastery of the force is his true weapon and one who thinks he knows everything know nothing.

Feb. 27, 2013 at 1:07pmThere’s actually a theory that yoda used to be a sith. The reason for this is in episode one Yoda mentions that there are always two sith, a master and an apprentice. According to the many star wars books there’s no way Yoda could have known that because the sith had been in hiding for longer than that policy had been put in place. They figure the only way Yoda could have known that was if he was a sith at one point and later switched sides. I think it was just an oversight by the writer.
That image, though, isn’t the right color for Yoda – Yoda was a green color. That’s what I noticed before the lightsaber. Could just be a different member of Yoda’s race that became a sith.

Feb. 27, 2013 at 3:30pm@Kyled He couldn’t have been a sith or he would have known for certain they weren’t gone. They knew of the rule of two because they had believed that the jedi had killed Darth Bane (creator of the rule of two) long before this. It’s explained in the book Darth Bane: Rule of Two.

@Gonzo, I see what you are saying but I think Bryz did have some Philly themes on his helmet last year and so has some of the past goalies including Brian Boucher who is now back for his third tour of duty.
Tim Thomas though has has an awesome mask..check it out if you will:

Light is the Comprehension of Darkness.
Darkness is the Original State of the Universe.
It’s a slippery slope between Jedi & Sith…but this is like saying Republican vs Democrat…which is garbage. They are the same thing.
Technically speaking, the Jedi are Sith, but the Jedi do not deal in Absolutes as the Sith…in otherwords…the Jedi are Moderates.
The pattern of Master & Apprentice is the same for both Jedi & Sith. There are many similarities structurally in terms of heiarchy & method.

Some lightsabers don’t require the user to be using the Force, but some do, as some lightsabers are designed such that the activation switch is an internal mechanism and can only be “toggled” by using the Force. That said, while other designs of lightsabers can certainly be activated by a non-Force user, only a Force user can wield a lightsaber with true skill. The only exceptions to this are entities such as General Grievous who are more computer than human.

I never said I agreed with the statement. Just saying that’s a theory. Like I said, I think it was just an error. Though, I don’t think your point works because, if I remember correctly, the rule of two wasn’t made until after Darth Bane was defeated, supposed to be dead, and in hiding.
@LONEINDIVIDUAL
You didn’t specify but I assume you mean that because the light knows the dark the Jedi knows about the rule of two just…I don’t see how that’s possible or any lore that supports it but I’m not an expert. Also, I hate that quote from Obi Wan. “only a sith deals in absolutes” is an absolute statement…that would make Obi Wan a Sith for saying it. It’s somewhat similar to the statement “There is no absolute truth.” Because the statement is an absolute, if it were true, it would invalidate itself. It’s basically saying 1=0.

Besides, Yoda is not only shown with a lightsaber in the George Lucas prequels. He also duels in the Extended Universe novels.

“Lightsaber colors originally indicated a Jedi’s role in the Order. For example, Jedi Consulars, who focused on non-violence, carried green lightsabers to symbolize peace. Jedi Guardians, on the other hand, carried blue lightsabers as a symbol of uniformity and solidarity. These symbolic colors began around 4,000 BBY. By 1,032 BBY, lightsaber colors were still associated with different types of Jedi, but were neither required nor exclusive.”
